Hey Sherwood, how many spells can Silanon and I swap back and forth right now? How long does it take to train in a spell?

You can get one spell per day. Right now, you are picking up the Healing spell from Olsen. Once you are on the road, you can continue to trade spells back and forth one per day.

Maybe I'm lost on the whole concept... but it appears as though people are trying to min/max their characters rather than providing a high quality role play. I would rather have an 'average' character who puts out a great story than a 'super' character that can pump out the roles but have no real impact on the story...

Just my thoughts, for whatever they are worth.

We have three pages of IC posts of us at a dinner party, and not much else. Give us some time to get into the story a bit.

DraconianWarrior DraconianWarrior I'm certainly aware of that. In-game, Shaona offered to spend some time to talk about psionics - that was what I was referring to.

Dano Dano This is certainly a valid concern - first of all, thanks for bringing it up. Roleplaying is not about numbers and words on a sheet, but about the story you tell with them - I try to act by that guideline, and I think I hit the mark more often than not. When I don't, I really damn appreciate posts like yours. Since I assume that you don't mean the buying of equipment, let me just talk about the spell-swapping thing: It will certainly helpful to learn a spell like chameleon from Terra, no doubt - but I feel like it suits the character I'm imagening to share the spell knowledge she possesses to learn more herself. If that doesn't seem reasonable, than I really fucked up and I'll revisit my concept.

Silanon Silanon I want calling anyone out in particular, I myself was looking at better pistols for my character and then said, "why? I have one already... theres nothing wrong with it..." so I didnt add it to my list for Brazamal. I asked for equipment that I felt would help the story (ie: the camera drones, the tarp to cover up the Badger if we needed to leave it behind, etc
...).

I'm by no means trying to tell anyone how to play their characters, I just want to remind everyone that we are here for a roleplay experience. If you want high numbers and maxing out, video games might be a better avenue.

Dano Dano while i agree that we are here for role play experiences that doesn't mean we cant amp up our characters as well, the more our characters can do the more they can do in the story meaning the more we have to offer for the story

DraconianWarrior DraconianWarrior I actually disagree. I think that the less you have / can do makes you more resourceful and forces creativity. If everyone is a superhero why would we need a team?

because no one should be able to do everything, i cant cast magic, and you don't have psionics, my guys not a very good fighter, we all have our strengths and weaknesses, im a mechanic you're smuggler. we have to work together in order to succeed. the more we can do for eachother the better off we are

That's how I read your post as well - sorry if my response sounded different than that.

DraconianWarrior DraconianWarrior What Dano is referring to (or at least that what comes into my mind when I read the posts) is the following problem: If you max out completely, then you get to a point where it doesn't matter if you have magic or psionics or whatever - you'll simply be able to work without the other factors because you're simply powerful enough. You don't need to be sneaky or use magic if you can simply gun everything in your path down.

well i guess so but i don't think we will be at that point any time soon, and i especially don't think we are even close to taking on atlantis, and unless we don't get caught thats whats going to happen.

Dano Dano sorry i guess i just dont see what your refering to, all i can see is poeple trying to better prepare thier characters for the mission ahead, most magic users are always looking to gain more magic, and people who like fighting are always going to try and find the best equipment its just how people are, we strive to be/have the best that we can.

take this for example, your faced against a dragonwhich would you rather fight with?

a mech or a laser pistol?

A lot of what we have here in the OOC posts is people discussing how to get to the island. There are questions from most people about different gear, but keep in mind that we are all looking to make ourselves able to get through the isolation of being a couple of thousand miles from any repair or rearming. Do I want more for my character? Hell yes I do. I want to be able to bring my Earth Thunderer along, and if I can have a second one, awesome. If I could get a Battlelord instead? Even better! It is a core power of the Controller that I can operate more than one of the Automations at one time, and if we are out in hostile territory until a much higher level, that screws me of one of my character's prime bonuses. Being able to learn new spells is another fundamental tenant of being a mage. Personally, I don't think that the Healing spell we are getting from Olsen will ever be used, considering that 99.9% of all weapons we are dealing with are MDC, and exceptionally lethal to a non-armored person. But I'm taking it on the off chance that it might come in handy, or to be able to offer up in a spell swap later on.

My character purposefully is not really a fighter. His role is transportation and moving 'things' - I'm okay in more of a supportive role. The fact that I randomly got psi powers was a bit awkward, but I chose ones that suited his profession and made sense with what was already in place. I didn't try to cover up some of his weakness with the new psi powers, but augmenting what skills he already possessed.

Guys, I do appreciate the concerns that are being raised here. Once we are in the middle of the Atlantis mission, I do hope to have some role playing moments available for you, testing you in ways that will make you want to try and make your characters grow. But I would not be running the game correctly if I did not have some sizable challenges ahead of you. Having your Controller and Undead Slayer taking point in a nasty scrap while others are lobbing gunfire into a fight will come in handy. I will say that there will be times that Psychie will not be able to take her mecha into a situation, and she'll have to adapt.

My character isnt a fighter either, the only reason i have a rifle and armor is becuase sherwood gave them to me when he/she (sorry i dont mean to assume) was finishing up my sheet. and my character asked for the helicopters so that if it was needed he could help in a fight, my character would rather negotiate with an enemy rather then fight, but he is also not an idiot he knows that sometimes fighting is unavoidable

DraconianWarrior DraconianWarrior It's not the point that we're not there yet - Dano's point is about the attitude towards the game. In that regard, my example was certainly chosen poorly.
Sherwood Sherwood I've been in enough of your games to know that - no worries there on my end.

Also, you dont have the opportunity to play off each other's strengths to cover your own weaknesses.
Now that you wrote that sentence, I'm wondering why it's not part of my post already - thanks.

That's what you'd think about in-character - Dano's referring to the OOC, the question is how we play our characters: Do you want to get the mech, or do you want to have the pistol and face that challenge?

Random thought: I like the healing spell. Some day, it'll come in handy, probably to help some poor NPC.

Either way, with the pistol or the mech its still a challenge, but i would like to think that our characters care more about surviving then 'getting a challenge'

Well, at the moment, we have a offer on the table from Charlie for Trent to try and negotiate down. Lets see what he can come up with.

DraconianWarrior DraconianWarrior I would take the pistol because that's what my character has available. I would look to gain advantages and adapt in other ways and not automatically have the proper gear needed to tackle such an enemy.

Ok, lets all try to remember that this is supposed to be a game, and to keep it dialed back from getting to the personal attacks.

All the more important that those concerns were mentioned; this conversation blew up within minutes, which certainly shows the different perspectives we've got assembled here. Give it a thought, y'all, and let's make sure that we're telling the great story we're here for.

sorry i had no intention of making a personal attack and i apologize if i did so, i guess i just cant see things the same way that Dano does, and in a way im gald that there are people with diffrent perspectives than me, that makes it easier to solve problems when you look at it from a diffrent angle,

i guess the way that i see it is that its better to prepare for things before they happen so that im ready when they do happen.
