DraconianWarrior You might pick up a ready-made D&D module? There are plenty that won't cost much and are worth every dime. They'll come with storyline, maps, and just about everything you'll need. Maybe give that a shot?

Maybe I'm lost on the whole concept... but it appears as though people are trying to min/max their characters rather than providing a high quality role play. I would rather have an 'average' character who puts out a great story than a 'super' character that can pump out the roles but have no real impact on the story...

Just my thoughts, for whatever they are worth.

The fact that I randomly got psi powers was a bit awkward, but I chose ones that suited his profession and made sense with what was already in place. I didn't try to cover up some of his weakness with the new psi powers, but augmenting what skills he already possessed.

And... that whole psi-powers thing was my fault. Finding out if characters randomly have psionics is a question best answered at the beginning of the game. I was hoping someone would chance upon some goodies, but I apologize if that put you in an awkward position. I'm just here to have fun and help everyone else do the same! =)

No no.. it's perfectly okay. Like I said, if it completely did not fit my character I would have said no... I'm only going to 'augment' my character if it continues the story I'm trying to tell/sell.

Sherwood went mad with Storyteller power a loooong, loooong time ago. But he's handled his madness quite well all these years, I think! 8D

 

[Epiphany]

Rifts is a delightful combination of completely unbalanced mechanics and tremendous depth of story. Most of the time, PCs are not well balanced against each other. PCs in this very group have wide disparities in combat power. And yet, combat's only one of the things you can do in Rifts and Sherwood being Sherwood, it won't be the only thing or even necessarily the most interesting thing.

Some of us are playing solid bruisers in combat. If you're up for a supportive role, Dano, and don't mind giving us cover fire or hitting from range, please do. My last Rifts character behaved much the same way. That said, some of our combat bruisers (Kimberly in particular) don't necessarily have a ton of skill outside of combat. That's where characters who rely on skills rather than strike bonuses will be essential.

Speaking for myself, I enjoy a degree of specialization. In part because it's nice to do what I want to do with a particular character well. But also in part because I enjoy playing my characters when they're outside of their comfort zones. Given where we're going, combat can't possibly solve every problem we encounter (we will die if we try). So I'm looking forward to being challenged with playing a character who has to adapt, when she's never particularly had a need to adapt in the past before. That's a bit of performance RP I'm going to enjoy.

Lots of room for all playstyles here. Let's just keep it fun, folks.

One thing that I'm looking forward to is the play-by-play between us and the Kydian (AKA the Overlord). It will be a hard sell to make sure that he's not trying to set us up, and both the two Atlantians and our Altarian might have a few harsh words for him.

Epiphany has it right that it can be very difficult to have a equal spread of strength and power level between a bunch of characters. It makes it challenging to me as a storyteller, but my ego is big enough that I fully expect (or at least, hope!) that this game will go well despite the range of abilities.

Well, one thing is sure. Trent was able to save upwards of 12 million in black market goods that was given to make travel arrangements. Sweet.

You should take a look at the Hero System. It is point based, so you can spend them in any way you want. I probably have at least a dozen fully fleshed out characters made for a superhero setting that I will probably never play, just because it is fun for me to make the characters live.
