Braelyn Keene
As she stepped outside the lab, she looked around for Kai. He couldn't have gone too far right? She glanced down at Kristina almost as if to make sure she was still holding the Oshawatt. She didn't want this to be some cruel dream, although she doubted any of them wanted that.
Braelyn glanced in the direction that she knew would hold the first route. That was the most likely place for Kai to have gone for, at least as far as she could tell. The purplette set off at a rather brisk pace, attempting to lessen the distance between herself and the other trainer.
It didn't take too long considering she could eventually hear the cries of Kai's Charmander. Braelyn turned a small corner to see Kai standing triumphantly with his Charmander over a fainted Bellsprout. 'They must have already battled it...' She thought as they began walking away. Kristina squeaked from Braelyn's arms to shake her out of her thoughts.
Braelyn shot a grateful smile down at the pokemon in her arms before walking quickly after Kai. "Hey Kai! Wait up!" She called, her voice raising a few more notches than normal to attempt to get the boy's attention.

Braelyn slowed her pace a little bit as Kai finally recognized that she was behind him. As a result of this, Kai's Charmander had already attacked another pokemon. This new pokemon looked like a little purple rat, and it didn't look very happy.
She was grateful that Kai hadn't told her to go back to the lab. She really wanted to officially start her journey, but she didn't want to travel alone. She liked having a few other people around, although too many quickly pushed her into her quiet corner.
Braelyn gave a small, grateful smile as she stopped next to the older boy and loosened her grip slightly on the water-type in her arms. "Sorry," she murmured, "I was waiting for the Professor to give us the pokedexes, but he didn't have them right then. The Professor said Vivian and her Zoroark will bring them to us eventually." She added, quickly explaining the situation.

Braelyn watched as Charmander made quick work of the Rattata. It didn't take long for the rat pokemon to be defeated and Braelyn was honestly impressed. She hoped that Kristina was watching closely. One day this Charmander could be an opponent in battle, and even though Braelyn wasn't aiming to be the best at battling, it was still a skill they needed to perform well.
As Kai started walking forward, Braelyn hesitated. This was it. She was about to officially start her journey. The purplette glanced down at her starter pokemon and took a deep breath. She held it for a moment before releasing the air and nodding, taking several large strides to make up the distance between her and Kai.

Braelyn walked beside Kai rather quietly. She was the kind of person to stay quiet if she didn't have anything to say. Usually she didn't have anything to say unless she was spoken to. Her mother had even told her to loosen up several days before Braelyn had left for the Pokemon Lab, but it was easier said than done.
A little bird pokemon suddenly landed in front of them, startling Braelyn a little bit. She glanced down at Kristina to see if it had brought out a similar reaction, but the Oshawatt just looked at the Starly with a mild expression. The little water-type didn't even seem phased by the sudden appearance of the flying type.
The purplette glanced over at Kai to see his reaction to the wild Starly and she was surprised to see he had already begun to direct Charmander into battle. He even held a pokeball in his hand. Lucky him, having parents to give him a pokeball like that.
"I don't think it's cheating." She spoke quietly as she watched the battle. The bird pokemon seemed pretty set on battling well, but Charmander was able to weaken it enough for Kai to throw his pokeball.
The pokeball consumed Starly in a bright light and then shook a couple of times before standing still. Kai's catch was successful and Braelyn was truly impressed. Only a few minutes into their journey and he had defeated two pokemon and caught one. Kai even seemed to have a bond between himself and Charmander that already seemed so strong. Kai was definitely a natural at this.
Braelyn smiled a little at Charmander's pose before turning to face Kai. "Congratulations on the Starly." She murmured, her smile widening slightly. Hopefully she could get herself some pokeballs soon too. Then she could catch some new friends. Maybe then her bond with Kristina could be as strong as Kai's and Charmander's.

Braelyn nodded to Kai, her smile changing to a wide, excited grin. She had brought a little money that she had been saving up over the years, but it wasn't very much. Her parents had refused to loan her any since she had her own, but what she had should be enough for a few supplies in the next town. She really hoped what she had was enough because she really didn't want Kai using his money to buy her stuff.
Braelyn turned her gaze to focus on the road in front of them. She hadn't imagined she would be walking this much. And to think they had only been walking for a short while. She watched quietly as Charmander began to pick on some other pokemon and she couldn't help but smile a little. That Charmander was going to be a troublemaker. One didn't simply change another's personality or nature. She was just glad that her Oshawatt seemed rather mild.
Braelyn glanced down at the water starter, who at the same time looked up at her trainer. The little Oshawatt gave her trainer a small smile as if to reassure her that everything would be fine. Yes, Braelyn would get along fine with this pokemon and she was already proud to call Kristina her partner. That didn't change the fact that Braelyn wished to catch other pokemon, but she would always keep Kristina by her side.

So far, this journey seemed rather pleasant. Pokemon were sitting by, going about their lives as if she and Kai weren't passing through. It was so pretty out here, and Braelyn couldn't help but enjoy the beauty of the environment. She had never seen this much rural country because she had grown up in a bustling city. The city sure was a site to see and anything but boring to visitors, but for a city girl, the pokemon and their homes were most exciting.
As Braelyn was admiring the vibrant colors on either side of them, she heard a sigh. Glancing away from the colors for a moment Braelyn turned to see its source was Kai himself. She followed his gaze to see that a looming forest stood in front of them. The trees were a lovely green, but the forest itself didn't look too inviting.
The purplette laughed a little as Charmander walked up to the forest, almost as if he were going to go on, and then decided against it. The lizard pokemon matched his trainer's sigh and Kai made an announcement about taking a break before going on. Braelyn liked that idea, and gladly she walked over to where Kai sat and then plopped down next to him.
After getting as comfortable as she could, Braelyn released her hold on Kristina. The Oshawatt seemed grateful to be able to walk around and stretch, and Braelyn couldn't help but smile as her pokemon did so. She watched as Kai's Starly flew around joyfully and once again her excitement was revived. If only she had some pokeballs. Then she could catch her own.
Speaking of pokeballs, she was supposed to be able to get them at the next town. Was that town through the forest? It was probably like a maze in there! What if they got lost? She glanced over at Kai, a little of her worrying shown in her eyes. "We won't get lost in there right?" She asked, gesturing towards the forest as she voiced her worries.

Braelyn was silent after Kai's response. It honestly wasn't all that comforting. She knew bug pokemon liked to live in the forest, but that's not what bothered her. The forest looked pretty dark. She wasn't that fond of the dark because ghost pokemon liked to live in the dark. Ghost pokemon have always frightened her, and to this day they still did.
Braelyn watched Kristina as the Oshawatt followed Kai's pokemon around. She seemed like she wanted to play with them, but at the same time Kristina didn't seem too fond of how excited they seemed to be. Hopefully with time the Oshawatt would get over that and all their pokemon would become good friends.

Kristina/Braelyn
Kristina looked at Charmander with an odd look. What was he doing? She rolled her eyes and flicked her scalchop at him, aiming to smack him in the face.
Braelyn giggled a little at the sight of their pokemon interacting. She thought Charmander's little act was hilarious and Kristina's obvious objection made it all better.

Braelyn looked over at Kai as he sat up. He appeared to enjoy Charmander's antics as much as she had. Then he caught her gaze in his own and began speaking.
He wanted to know her dream? Well, that was simple. "I want to be a pokemon coordinator. I wouldn't mind Top Coordinator, but that isn't my goal currently. I just want to be someone people look up to. I want to be a person others try to be like."
When she pit it that way, her dreams sounded much bigger than she had originally imagined them. She had never been the leader type so others hadn't ever really looked up to her. Quite the opposite because she was so quiet all the time. Maybe being a coordinator would change that. She sure hoped so.
After she had explained, Kai stretched a hand towards her. She looked at it for a moment before taking it in her own and giving it a firm shake. "It's nice to offically meet you Kai. My name us Braelyn Keene." She offered a soft smile to the boy next to her as she introduced herself.
Kristina yelped as Charmander began chasing her, but the smile on her little face showed that she was having fun.

Braelyn picked herself up, allowing Kai to help her. It seemed like they were ready to head into the forest. She wasn't ready personally, but if it were up to her she wouldn't go in there at all. They wouldn't get anywhere if she let her fears get in the way. She felt as if part of the journey was getting over those feelings.
She listened as Kai mentioned his own dream. She had heard him back at the lab but it was nice to hear it again. He seemed very set on fulfilling this dream, just as much as she wanted to. Then again, he seemed just a little more passionate considering the way he and Hiroshi had fought back at the lab. He also seemed to have a temper and she really did not want to be on his bad side when that came out again.
Kai called his pokemon over and as the Charmander and Starly hurried, Kristina followed as well. Braelyn reached down and picked up her starter who seemed content to sit in her arms. She glanced at the forest and then to Kai who was petting both of his pokemon. "Ready as I'll ever be..." She muttered and Kristina squeaked in agreement.

Braelyn followed Kai reluctantly into the forest. Hopefully this would be over quickly, but she honestly had no clue how large it was. To her dismay, she realized that traversing the forest could take a couple days or so depending on if they got lost. Oh, she hoped they didn't get lost.
At least Kai seemed to know his way around. That or he was scared as well and he was just trying not to be. If that was the case, he was probably doing a much better job than she was. Either way, Braelyn stuck close by. As long as she didn't lose him in the trees she would be fine. She didn't know how a water-type pokemon would fare against the pokemon of the forest. A fire-type or flying-type like Kai's Charmander and Starly were probably the best bets.

Braelyn watched the ground steadily as they continued through the forest. She didn't want to step on any bug pokemon. One of the worst things that could happen now was a swarm of bug pokemon attacking. The worst thing overall would be running into ghost pokemon. She shivered slightly at the thought of ghosts hiding in the trees.
She looked up from the ground to check for hiding ghosts just as Kai glanced back at her, probably to make sure she hadn't fallen behind. No, if she had known where she was going she would be running through the forest in an attempt to get out as quickly as possible.
At Kai's question, Braelyn shrugged. Quickly she realized that Kai wasn't even looking at her anymore so he hadn't seen her do so. "Excited to get out of this forest? Yes. Excited to run into ghost pokemon? No." She muttered under her breath partially as a joke. She had known exactly what Kai had meant by asking that question.
"In all seriousness, I am very excited. I can't wait for my first contest. Speaking of which, Kristina and I will have to work on getting a routine together when we get the chance." At the mention of her name, the Oshawott glanced up at her trainer and nodded. The water-type shared her trainer's excitement for contests as her mild personality wasn't fit for battling constantly.
