Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

John ran a hand through his hair. Hells he missed the idiot at that moment in time. Even if it was just the small things like the folded notes Elliott would leave to announce that he had arrived back, or left for a while. The fact that he'd somehow always know exactly what the fridge was missing, and would buy it in anticipation. The smell of his cooking that would always wake up John, no matter what the time. The midnight chats, they always spoke more truthfully in the dark. The fact that they always had each others (and Chas's) backs in a fight. And the fact that neither had to justify their actions, but an explanation was always appreciated.

"Hells I miss the idiot, even though its barely been three days, and he's sometimes gone for weeks, I still miss him." He sighed, more to himself than to Kay.

She saw him run a hand through his hair and she saw so much in that one action from him. She didn't need the bond to tell her his emotions, to know how much he was missing Elliott. Yet the moment he said it aloud, she instantly climbed off the table, pulled a chair right next to his, sat on it and pulled him in for a hug. "Of course you miss him... Even I miss the kid... But thats nothing to level you're feeling. You wouldn't be human if you didn't miss him John. He's your son, missing him is part of the package" she told him, but her voice was soft and soothing.

"Yeah, he goes away for days on end, but this is so different so of course you're going to react differently to his lack of presence." She said once more, before kissing the side of his head lovingly and protectively. Then came the blasted song again echoing in her mind, along with the random faint cry. She tried to ignore it.

"Mum! Dad!"

He wrapped an arm around Kay, not saying anything, but the gesture conveyed a thousand words. His thoughts at that time were a mess. Most were focused on Attil. What exactly would happen there? Trial? Singlehandedly busting Elliott out of prison? The reunion of Elliott's family? Would Cal still be around? Or had she been exiled since? Would there be an opportunity to punch Elliott's arsehole of a father? What would Attil even be like? Where were they going to base themselves? Would there be answers?

"My life is such a mess. I really don't want to think about what is going to happen, and what kind of shit storm is going to be unleashed" He didn't tempt fate by saying something like what could possibly make it worse? Or what could possibly go wrong?"

Kay knew he didn't need to say anything. She had learned early on that his actions spoke louder than words 99.9% of the time, which she had learned to read to a good enough level. She too had previously thought similar thoughts to John. She had obviously never been been anywhere other than London and Seattle, so this was a whole new world..literally to her. She did worry about how they'd be perceived, especially her due to her high level of magic in her very being.

She just hoped she wouldn't lose John in the process. Yet something told her she wouldn't. "Then don't think about it. It may be a mess but I'm here to shoulder some of that mess, just like Chas is. We can do this shit storm together. I'm not going anywhere, I'm gonna fight beside you every step of the way." She told him. This whole time she was ignoring the echo in her head. It wasn't time for yet another thing to get in the way. Elliott came first.

"I wouldn't have it any other way. I think between all of us, even Jay and Rinaa, we can give anybody in our way a right bollocking. A bollocking which for some has been a long time" And he was back to imagining punching Elliott's father, even if he had never met the guy before or even knew what he looked like. It would bring him immense satisfaction to do it, and he knew that none of the others on board the ship would try to stop him. Jay clearly knew Elliott's story, and who knew what Rinaa knew.

"And no matter what happens, Elliott will play by his rules, and nobody else's. He'll make them dance to his tune, and his tune only. I'm pretty sure that is what means with that quote about changing the game if you can't beat the odds, by the way. I'm no Chas, but it makes sense"

Hearing him say that made her weirdly happy. It meant to her he trusted her abilities to stand her ground and not be in the way. That happiness of that trust, didn't overpower the other feelings though of the situation coming toward them. "Damn straight we'll give them a bollocking like no other." She replied, not letting go of him.

She listened to the rest of what he had to say, knowing he was right. Elliott did always play by his own rules. The memories of all the training nights with her as proof of that. She remembered the nights of him taking her to places they were told not to go, to train. She was pretty sure John and Chas still didn't know half of the shit they got up to. "Yeah.. it does make sense. That is probably what he meant by that saying. I will always trust his instincts and plans. He's a smart cookie that Ell" she replied once more to him.

"That he is, he's always been a very sharp kid. Even when he was new in my life and barely trusted anybody he was always smart. So I'm trusting him on this, but then I'm going to break our rule of mutual not asking too many questions about what the other does with their life, and get some answers." He wasn't angry at Elliott's choice, he could see why he had made it. Had he tried to tell John, Elliott would probabaly a have lost the nerve to go through with it.

His arm remained wrapped around Kay, a position that just felt right. He didn't need any bond or psychiatrist to tell him thta. He just knew, he just felt that it was right.

"don't blame you, if I was you I'd be demanding answers as well when we got him. To be fair I'd be very interested in the answers he'd give myself anyway." She told him. Like him, she got why Elliott didn't give answers before this happened, yet that didn't stop her curiosity and need for answers.

She was aware of his arm still round her and she didn't once make him feel like he had to move. She wanted him to feel comfortable with her. Having him this close to her always felt right to her also, to the point she knew she was where she needed to be and meant to be. She kept her grip on him the whole time, every now and then she gave him a squeeze on the arm or a rub with her thumb.

John was glad to hear that Kay's thoughts were along a similar line to his, it made it easier for both of them. Rubbing her shoulder unconsciously as he spoke. "I guess we just have to put up with one more day on this ship, and then we'll be at Attil" he replied, glancing at his watch. Jay had had them sync all watches and time keeping devices to Attil time, making a guess on what time zone exactly Elliott would be in based on her knowledge of the planet. It was late, far later than he had thought it would be. The time seemed to just slip into nowhere when he was with Kay.

"We should probably move some where else, before I fall asleep in this chair." He wouldn't put it past himself to nod off if the conversation died out long enough. He really would sleep anywhere, as he had demonstrated before.

"mm yeah we'll soon find out" she said in agreement. It wouldn't be long before they found out the answers they were after. Even if they had to fight like hell before they got them. She felt a sense of security when he rubbed her shoulder in reaction. When he glanced at his watch, she did too and realised how late it was. Time really did just fly by when she was alone with him.

"Yeah, we probably should. Back to where we crashed before?" She replied with a suggestion. It seemed the obvious choice to her as they both fit in the one bed and it was relatively comfortable for them both. She reluctantly pulled away from his grip and stood up, pushing the chair in under the table. "Wouldn't say no to crashing for the night myself really." She added, she would have said about the echo in her head and the song but felt now wasn't the time at all.

"Same place as last night works for me" It didn't need to be said that they would be sleeping in the same bed tonight, it was implied. And after their conversation, he didn't see why they shouldn't. And not that he'd ever admit it, but with the exception of the last night and the nightmares that ensued, he slept better with Kay by his side. He got up, leaving the chair where it was. An unconscious stance against the ideals of something or somebody.

Back in the crew quarters, John slung his trench over the hook on the back of the door, before removing his boots and chucking them into a random corner where they landed with a satisfying thud. After that, he lay down on the bed, leaving enough space for Kay to fit beside him if she wanted to.

She walked beside him back to the crew quarters where they slept the night before. Unlike him, she didn't just take her boots off. She pulled out the shirt she bought in the mall and changed into it. She couldn't face sleeping in jeans yet again. Being in the massive shirt, she instantly felt more comfortable and then laid down next to him, laying on her side to face him, resting her head on his shoulder. It was her favoured place to lay as she slept a lot better when she had the contact with him.

It didn't take her long to fall asleep now she was beside him, but it also meant it wasn't long before the echo began all over again. The damn song vibrating through her mind so loud, it made her get up and just wander even though she was asleep still. She would have no clue if John noticed or not. It was like she was following the sound despite there being nowhere for her to actually to go. She eventually stopped by one of the windows. Her eyes were glowing, as was her whole body. She was in a trance.

John fell asleep shortly after she did. It was one of those nights, where sleep covered him. He didn't dream, he didn't have any nightmares, he just slept. He wasn't usually a heavy sleeper, he usually woke easily enough. But tonight was different. He didn't notice anything around him. The ship could have been on fire and he wouldn't have woken up. So he slept right through Kay waking up and leaving the room.

There were others on the ship awake, Jay in the cockpit being one. She'd attempted to sleep, but couldn't stay asleep long enough. So instead she had her headphones on in the cockpit, a packet of M&Ms and a backlog of TV episodes that she was working her way through. Rinaa was awake too, for similar insomniac reasons. She was trying not to be so reliant on the various medications. The anti-psychotics along were enough. So she was curled up in one of the hull windows, flicking through photos from her phone.

Kay had no clue what was happening to her. She was in fact still asleep, but this whole trance had taken control of her, the song in her mind that she had heard for a few days now seemed to escape her, as her sleeping self sang it. Her glowing body becoming less of a subtle glow and more engulfed in a weird flame that wouldn't set anything around her alight..luckily.

If she had been awake, this whole thing would no doubt have freaked her out. She was in part of a ship she hadn't been before, she had no clue who she was near (which happened to be Rinaa), how she got there, or why this would be starting to happen to her. Things were escalating with her...and fast. She had only sleep walked once before and that was when she wrote down to go back home to get the box of letters and necklace. Even Fee had no control of her or could get through to her to wake her.

Her bond with John began to glow and reveal itself on her wrist, as it would have done on John. The bond linking them both together to show each other, not that just how they were meant to be together, but if one felt intense emotions or was in trouble, the other would know. Kay in her sleeping state, also had no idea that echoing mysterious voice would be now trying to get through to not just her..but John too.

"Wake up! Dad!!! Go to mum!! WAKE UP YOU BLOODY GIT!!"

Rinaa saw Kay, saw the flames around her and froze, her whole body tensing up. The phone dropped from her hands and the screen shattered as it hit the ground. Kay couldn't see it, but Rinaa's face was caught in the light and frozen in fear. The blood had drained from her face, turning it a similar shade of white to that of the mask she wore.

The voice woke John up, for multiple reasons. It wasn't Elliott's, even though he had many voices he used when Mindspeaking, John knew it wasn't any of his. And besides, Elliott never called him Dad, only ever John or occasionally Constantine. The fact that somebody had managed to penetrate the wards and wall that shielded his mind was disturbing. There were very few that could do such a thing, and none of those would call him 'Dad'. And when he jolted upright and saw the sigil glowing there was only one word that could describe everything going on "bollocks!"

He grabbed the trench from the door and swung it on. He let his synchronity guide him to where he needed to be, and rounded the corner to see Kay. He gasped "Bloody hell"

Kay couldn't shake off the trance. It was eerie and hypnotising the way the flames never once harmed her or moved from her body. Her figure could still be completely seen through the flames, it was like they were framing her. She just kept staring out the window, unable to truly move. Her wings came from her back, outstretching wide, full wing span before fluttering down behind her. Her song not pausing in the process.

Eventually she turned round slowly, but instead of looking at John, it was like her burning ember eyes were looking through him. It was obvious she wasn't awake, despite her eyes being open. She needed to be awoken. It was like she was trapped in her own mind. The voice John heard had quietened, despite the previous urgency in its voice only moments ago.

"Mum wake up!" The voice focused on Kay.

At the sight of the wings emerging Rinaa began to snarl. An inhuman sound that emanated from the dark reaches of what lurked inside her. In the low light, John could see the fangs that had sprung out of the girl's mouth. They looked more at home on a wild dog or cat, than a humanoid. He knew now with 100% certainty that she was not human (which he had already suspected, but now it was confirmed). What he couldn't see was the way her eyes changed, and the hairs on her back, arms and legs stood on end. She was stuck between fight or flight. A feral response to a predator or a fear.

John knew a lot about possession and exorcism. What ever was happening to Kay was similar but different. In his opinion the best thing to do was to snap her out of it. And since it was more of a trance he decided that the best thing to do was chuck something at her head and hope that the pain would be enough to jolt her out of it. With a sigh, he picked up the nearest non-flammable object that was easy to throw. With pinpoint accuracy he threw it, not hard enough to knock her unconscious, but hard enough to hurt.

Kay felt the hit to her head and as John hoped, it snapped her awake quickly. She blinked several times and her eyes went back to their grey blue hue, the fire went out around and her wings dissipated once more into her tattoo on her back. The song even stopped. She looked around before realising Rinaa was there and so was John. "J..John?" She stammered, wondering where the hell she was and what was she doing there.

"What the hell?" She asked, more to herself than to him, but it was obvious she was freaked out at how she went from being in bed with him, and now to where she was. She glanced at Rinaa and saw how feral she looked and she actually got scared by her. She didn't know what was happening to her, just that she let hearing that blasted song and echos of a young female voice in her head calling her mum.

Thankfully it worked, and more importantly didn't make things worse. He could easily she when woke up. The wings vanished, along with the flames and her eyes changed to their original colour. She was freaking out, and the changed appearance of Rinaa wasn't doing the whole situation any favours. "Yeah it's me, sorry about that, but chucking that at your head was the only way I could think to get you out of whatever trance you were in." His words were partially an explanation of what had happened, and through the time a reassurance that everything was going to be okay.

Realising that she had been noticed, Rinaa reflexively pulled up the hood of her hoodie. She turned and vanished into the bowels of the ship, in her rush to get away, she left the broken phone abandoned on the floor.

Kay walked over to John still wondering how she got here. "It's okay...I woulda done the same thing..." She replied to him, knowing full well she really would have, not wanting to risk stepping up to flames. She was too focused on listening to John that she didn't pay too much attention to Rinaa disappearing, though she was aware of her not being there anymore.

"I don't know what's happening to me John...I keep...hearing this voice and song.." she said, her tone showing she was still unnerved a bit. "And Rinaa? Did I do something to make her react like that?" She had so much going round her mind, she was almost rambling.

He put an arm around Kay, pulling her into his side. He gently rubbed her shoulder while doing so. He noted that she too had heard a voice, and he was of no doubt that it was the same one. But right now she didn't need to know that he'd heard the same voice. He'd tell her that later, when things had calmed down. "You're okay now, we'll figure that crap out later."

It was only when Kay questioned about the other girl that he realised she had slipped away from the scene. "You didn't do anything to her. She didn't change or do anything unusual until your wings appeared. Then came the whole feral act. Though it looked more like a fight or flight kinda thing to me."

Kay gripped onto him when he pulled her into him. She had no idea of he knew just how much him holding her like that calmed and soothed her. She also had no idea about him hearing the same voice she had been hearing. She nodded when he told her they'd figure it out later. That was her whole plan in the beginning. To tell him about the voice and song after they saved Elliott, but clearly her sleeping self decided otherwise.

She sighed with relief when he told her she didn't do anything to Rinaa. Despite not being on fully good terms with her, she didn't want to be the cause of anything worse. "Good.. I don't wanna be the cause of anymore shit. I don't wanna see that feral reaction toward me ever again.." she replied, even though she did wonder what it was about Kay being in that state that made Rinaa react so badly.

"Neither do I, espescially if there is claws to match those fangs. They looked wolfish or wildcat in shape." Despite having no idea what she actually was, John had been around enough were-animals and lycanthropes to know when to stay out it. The fangs he'd seen were motivation enough. A general rule of thumb was that where there was fangs there was claws. And judging by the claw marks on Rinaa's neck he wouldn't want them embedded in his internal organs.

"I bet she'll be staying the Hells away from us for the foreseeable future. More so than usual I mean" He clarified.

Listening to John, it was clear he saw Rinaa's appearance a lot better than she did. She was perfectly okay with that though, she didn't want to see any better a view of that any time soon. Hearing his tone, she could only imagine how many were-beings he had come across in his time.

"If she does.. that's fine by me. Clearly I'm a threat to her in some way...for some reason" she replied, before yawning. She was just asleep but for some reason she was worn out. Yet she was scared of going to sleep incase she sleep walked again. "Where the hell did I end up anyway? I have no idea how I got here" she spoke up, not letting go of him. She was after all still only in her night shift and bare footed. Looking at her, no one would think she was standing in a load of fire. Nothing was scorched miraculously.

"That kid is just a pile of mysteries." He sighed. There really was nothing he could say about Rinaa that hadn't been said by them before. When Kay asked where she was he replied with "some part in the underbelly of the ship, one of the subsections of the main cargo hold I think." He wasn't tired physically, it was emotional tiredness that was weighing him down. "best guess, some kind of sleepwalking trance walking took you here."
