Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

John listened to her points, which echoed his thoughts almost perfectly. Espescially the food and coffee bit. "I agree very much with the idea of coffee, espescially if it comes accompanied by a large slug of whiskey." He smirked slightly at her end point, appreciating the attempt to lighten the mood with humour. "I honestly don't think Jay or Rinaa would give a shit. Maybe a raised eyebrow before they turn back to doing what they do best. Now Chas on the other hand would have many, many questions."

Getting off the bed he left the phone behind, the video folder still open. He looked at his shirt and decided that after sleeping in it for two nights, it was probably a good idea to change into a clean one. He had brought spare shirts, they were crumpled from travelling, but bar that they were clean and fresh. He stripped off the old shirt, once again revealing the extent of the tattoos on his back.

She smirked and nodded at his whiskey comment. She saw he noted her attempt at humour for this new bit of insane news thrown their way. She chuckled at him saying Chas would have many questions about her being in a sleep shirt. "That I don't doubt. Can imagine him insinuating many things that he doesn't already about us" she replied, sitting up and swinging her legs off the end of it, so she could grab her jeans before pulling her bag onto her lap to get a new t-shirt.

When he stood up and removed his shirt to change it for a clean one, she did take a cheeky glance as his tattoos always fascinated her greatly. She always wanted to run her fingers down his back when she saw them, but she refrained from doing so by standing up to pull on her jeans, before removing her sleep shirt and putting on a slouchy off the shoulder t-shirt. One of her old favourites from Seattle to be exact, it was clear it was old from the bottom hem starting to fray and roll up on itself but she could never bring herself to throw it out. She then pulled her boots on.

"That's Chas for you, but I wouldn't have him any other way" John replied, with a smirk, not that Kay could see it of course. He finished doing up the shirt, then grabbed the boots from the corner of the room where he had slung them the night before. He grabbed the trench from the door, and at the last second grabbed Rinaa's phone and tucked it into his pocket. It might be useful at some point in the future, he wasn't sure yet what was the best thing to do with it.

When Kay was ready to go, he headed upstairs. There was a smell of roasting meat and spices emanating from the kitchen. The source was Jay. Or more precisely the ribs Jay was preparing. It was the alien meat she had bought back on yesterday's shopping spree, and it looked and smelt divinely appetising in John's opinion. She looked up as John entered, her eyes still rimmed by dark circles, but she looked awake and alert besides that. Her hair was tied back in a pony tail, revealing that one of her ears was pierced with multiple small rings, just like Rinaa's. She was dressed in her usual jeans and t-shirt combo. "Chas and the kid are up top, coffee's over there" She gestured at what could only be described as a vat of coffee.

"Chas is Chas.. he's a good one" she replied.

Kay then grabbed her own jacket but managed to tie it round her waist, despite being a faux leather jacket it was surprisingly easy to tie round her. One because she was so slender and two it was so oversized on her the sleeves were long enough to tie. She stepped up to John when she was good to go and walked out of the quarters with him. Walking into the kitchen the smells coming from it were quite something, Kay had admit.

She looked at Jay, seeing the cooking was down to her. She saw the state of her tired looking eyes despite how alert she was. Her glance followed to where she was gesturing to find the vat of coffee, which didn't take her long to walk over and make herself and John both mugs of the much needed drink. She hoped Rinaa wouldn't speak to Chas about last night, as if it would have come up, she'd rather be the one telling him alongside John and not Rinaa. She also then decided she was going to avoid the cockpit if that's where Rinaa was.

John took the mug and leant against a different part of the counter to where the cooking was taking place. He expected Jay to blank them considering how the day before had gone. What he wasn't expecting was for Jay to pull out a bottle of whiskey from one of the cupboards and pour a slug into her own coffee before passing it over to him. "Cheers" He replied, his words clearly meaning thanks. "We're all gonna need it, we reach Attil in twelvish hours"

"That soon?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Yep, we refuelled with the high performance fuel, not quite racing fuel, but a hell of a lot faster than the commercially used stuff" As she spoke she began chopping up what looked like potatoes and rolling them in spices.

Kay was near John as she took her own mug and clasped it firmly in both hands, blowing on it slightly, enjoying the warmth it brought to her hands. Like him, she expected Jay to blank them as well and not expecting her to hand him the whiskey after putting it in her drink. Kay on the other hand didn't delve into that. Sure, she could have and part of her did indeed want to, but she hadn't long been awake and she just wanted the caffeine and nothing else.

When Jay told them their rough ETA to Attil she was surprised. She didn't react quite like how John did, but it did surprise her a lot. She wasn't expecting them to drive so soon, yet part of her was glad of the fast approach. It meant they could get to Elliott sooner than they'd previously though and get this shit storm over with as soon as possible. She just wanted Elliott back like John did and to go back to where she considered home... John's apartment.

She observed as Jay continued cooking and prepping what looked to be potatoes in spices which she enjoyed watching for a couple of reasons, one was because she liked watching other people cook to pick up on tips and two, her phoenix blood always drew her to various spices. It was well written in the book John gave her and in phoenix lore how much they were linked to various spices- cinnamon being the main one for female phoenix, and thus this made her decide when she was home she was going to take upon herself to bake cinnamon swirl buns.

"Which reminds me, what exactly is your plan for when we actually arrive? I'm all for showing up and kicking down doors til we get answers and all, but it might actually be worth making some kind of plan, or at least finding out where we actually need to go before we get there. Or did you just rage storm into the Watchtower without a plan?" The last remark was accompanied by a raised eyebrow that suggested she already knew the answer to that question.

"Yeah well..." He tailed off, and took a drink of the coffee, realising thta he really had left Earth with absaloutly no plan whatsoever except to get Elliott back by whatever means possible. "Looks like we need to make a plan then" The potato pieces were added to oil, then blast fried. The ship didn't allow for open flame, so blast friers had been invented to allow for fried food to be eaten in space.

Kay sipped at her coffee, feeling utter relief as it went down her throat. She listened to what Jay said and she just had a hunch on how this was going to go, the moment she asked if he was going to go in with no plan whatsoever. She would have choked on her coffee if she hadn't already finished a sip just before Jay finished asking her question. She may not have known John for years, but she knew he didn't exactly go in with many plans in mind. The watch tower situation would have been no different.

She glanced at John seeing he truly realised that he left earth with no plan whatsoever as well. She kept a lot of her thoughts to herself but they mostly consisted of 'of course you did this with no plan' and 'thats my John...going in with no plan or thought process' .

Kay then nodded in agreement. "Agreed, we can't afford to make mistakes" she replied.

Jay had to refrain from banging her head through a wall as the realisation dawned on John's face. Sure she could see why he hadn't given any thought whatsoever to making a plan, but that didn't make it any less annoying for her. But at least they could agree on one thing, it had to be done right, and she was glad somebody was backing her up on this even if it was Kay, and niether of them still had any idea where they stood with each other.

"No, we can't, so we need information, and I'm willing to be the kid has it. She wouldn't be here if she didn't know something we didn't"
John wasn't thrilled to hear that, and it showed. "Really?" he sighed "Yeah, and before you ask the results came back corrupted, some kind of glitch in the system, either that or she's a chimera" Jay took another slug of the coffee whiskey and leant back against the counter.

Kay didn't mind Jay. There were times she made Kay feel very uneasy but on the whole, she didn't have much of an issue with Jay. Most of her opinions on her came from the fact she helped save Kay's life. Though a lot of her frustration with Jay also came from the lack of information she gave, the lack of willingness to talk and the whole punching Elliott. None of that wasn't going to stop Kay backing Jay up though on matters she honestly did agree with.

She remained silent whilst Jay and John spoke about Rinaa. Of course Rinaa was a key in this whole thing, she thought. Then came the answer to the question neither of Kay or John needed to ask. When Jay said what she did, Kay couldn't help but smirk at it. She really had no idea what they witnessed last night, so the irony of Jay's words would have gone right over her head... But didn't go amiss on Kay. "Certainly or something.." she muttered.

"When you say Chimera, I presume you aren't talking about the mythological kind?" John had to ask. If pheonixes were real, the maybe the crazy goat, lion, snake mash up was too. And it might make sense of last night too, with regard to the fact that Rinaa could clearly shift, or at the very least partially shift into something. "You'd be right, I mean chimera in the medical sense, somebody with more than one set of active DNA."

"Would a chimera be dangerous?" "More so than a normal person? Depends on the DNA species. Human and human is completly compatable and happens naturally, its more common than ypu think, it usually involves one foetus engulfing another in the womb. Most Chimeras just have two different blood types of two different types of skin cells. But certain lab created chimeras are different. In bad cases the DNA is incompatable and basically tears them apart from the inside out."

Kay was glad it was John that asked. Mostly because she wasn't sure how to approach the topic necessarily without possibly coming across as snarky, when for once she didn't want to be snarky. She listened to what Jay said in reply and adding that to what they saw last night, she was defined putting it down to the chimera theory. She did like exactly what Jay was fully explaining though about lab created ones, it sounded bloody horrible to her.

She then decided that maybe she could come clean so to speak about her sleep walking and chime into the conversation as it did involve Rinaa to a certain degree and the topic currently being spoken about. "I think you saying she's a chimera isn't far off...we uhh...witnessed something with Rinaa last night." She began saying, taking another gulp of her coffee. "I ended up sleep walking which let out more of my phoenix form. Rinaa was there and she didn't react well to it...she had fangs and went pretty feral around me. It was only when John woke me that she did a runner" she finished explaining.

When Kay chimed in, Jay turned around to face her,the interest visible in her eyes. She nodded, thinking as Kay spoke, trying to relate the information back to the results of the DNA tests and what she knew about the kid from their time in prison. "She only changed when she saw the fire, or was she already shifted?" John thought back to the events of the night, answering before Kay had a chance. "When she saw the flames, but before that she was frozen still"

Jay considered for a few minutes, it was clearly visible on her face that she was thinking hard, the cogs in her head turning. She took another slug of coffee before speaking. "Say she is a chimera of some sort, my best guess would be that whatever the other part is, it's becoming more dominant. The kid already has intense fear of fire, she's fine with rocket thrusters, but natural fire, she can't cope with. Said fear is amplified by the other half, triggering fight or flight, along with a partial shift, maybe as some form of protection."

Kay was glad John replied before she could, as a lot of it happened when she was still in a trance, so therefore wouldn't have been able to give an answer, despite wanting to. This was something that John would have seen more of and been able to answer a lot better than she could. She watched as Jay clearly was taking in the information and thinking hard about it. When Jay mentioned about Rinaa's intense fear of fire, Kay actually felt a tiny bit awkward. It also made sense partially why Rinaa kept her distance from her so much.

Kay was a walking flame quite literally, even her hair alone resembles fire, and no doubt a constant reminder of her fear or as last night proved, a trigger for her. She just nodded slowly as she drank more coffee, more of less finishing it in the process and putting the mug on the counter. "No wonder she has an issue with me then..." She muttered, more to herself than to anyone else.

The explanation made sense to John but he had one more point to add. "Didn't Chas mention that she was taking anti-psychotic and suppressants? The hard hitting stuff too." Jay nodded slowly, "he did, which would make sense if she wanted to suppress whatever her other side is." There was another thought rattling around in Jay's head, something she had been keeping back from the rest of the group. But with the new information, it was looking more plausible. But she was hesitant to say it.

So she instead diverted topic to Kay's remark "It's not exactly that she has an issue with you as such. Or with any of us for that matter, it's more of that she doesn't want any of us to care about her. Bring a time traveller, I suppose it makes sense, but there's more to it than that."

Ay looked between John and Jay as they continued the conversation, bringing up a point she had briefly forgotten about. She glanced more at Jay as it definitely bloomed like she had more to add to the topic at hand but clearly didn't want to say it. Not long ago she would have told Jay to just spit it out and tell them what is on her mind, but she had seen enough of Jay's mood swings to know that would be a stupid idea, so she kept quiet.

Then came a response to her outward thoughts from Jay. Jay's words made sense in the time travelling aspect. "guess so..but there has to be more to it than just that...I agree with you on that one." She replied, shoving her hands in her front jeans pockets.

John could tell that Jay had thought of something else, so he decided to try his luck at getting it out of her. "there is something more, isn't there?" Jay nodded, and relented. "Back with the bounty hunter, after you guys left, he summoned his back-up, five augmented wolves. Faster, stronger, smarter than a normal animal, tougher too, what with the cyborg parts and all. And these were give communicators. Basically, the offs of one versus five, it was low chance of getting out"

"But you did" "Yes, but with help. A sixth wolf, not an augment. In the process of saving my life, it got pretty badly beaten up, in a an effort to shove me away. Didn't think much of it at the time. But with everything else that's been said..." "you think it was Rinaa" "Yep"

(I probably won't be online for a few hours after this, I've got a mass with the concert band)

Kay somehow wasn't surprised that John had the balls to pry the kept back information out of Jay. She listened to what Jay said and it all began to click into place. How they both came back to the ship injured, Rinaa more so, the reluctance to say how she got the injuries. "That would explain how she sustained such injuries in comparison to you. To say they were extensive is an understatement. I didn't think I'd be able to help at one point." She replied.

She knew John didn't see the full extent of Rinaa's injuries, and only had what she had briefly said when she re-emerged after helping to go by. She turned to John to clarify a couple of things, "I had to basically rebuild near enough half of one of her ribs as it completely snapped off. Along with other cuts and scrapes etc. That's why you and Chas heard such screams.. and it took so much out of me"

(Okay thanks for the heads up!)

"Mine weren't as bad since I possess a partial healing factor. But hers were pretty horrific, her whole side was split open, and you could clearly see the bones. It would have been fatal, the blood loss alone would have been enough" Jay added, helpfully filling in the more gruesome details of Rinaa's injuries. John pulled a face, he could easily picture in the type of injury they were describing. "She got lucky, very lucky" "That she did"

Kay nodded when John stated how lucky Rinaa got. Rinaa was ridiculously lucky and it clearly wasn't her time to go, considering she was damn certain no one else would have survived such an attack and wounds. She certainly knew she'd have temporarily died from such wounds. "I think lucky is an understatement personally" she added in, as she took one hand out of her jeans pocket and run it through her hair, brushing one side up and back then behind her ear.

"Something tells me though she won't exactly be willingly open to telling us if we're right or not so easily. She's pretty damn closed off" Kay commented. She knew Rinaa definitely wouldn't tell her anything, especially after last night. She figured Jay might get answers and possibly Chas if he played his cards right, but she couldn't imagine herself or John getting anything out of her successfully.

"There is one way you could get answers though" John raised an eyebrow in interest. "Which is to make her so pissed of that she decides the best solution is to yell her life problems in your face, then dramatically storm off and hide in the underbelly of the ship while we all question our life choices" That idea wasn't too attractive to John or Jay, even though she suggested it "that would more than likely result in somebody getting a flying punch to the face" There was a jab at Jay in John's statement, which she merely rolled her eyes at, taking it surprisingly well. "You're saying you've never been pissed off enough to sock someone in the jaw?" "Fair point"

"So until the new results come back there isn't much we can do...except make a plan" Jay finished, bringing the conversation back to it's original point, which she had not forgotten during the tangent they went on.

Kay also got curious when Jay said about there being one option to gain answers, but like the both of them, she did not like that idea. She certainly didn't want to personally risk ant kind of violent contact with Rinaa. She could deal with Elliott and John's violent outbursts, and just about Jay's, but Rinaa felt like a whole different kettle of fish to her. So John's little jab about Jay's violent outburst was almost expected from Kay.

"Agreed. We should focus on the point at hand and worry about Rinaa and anything else on our minds later on." She said, the second part of her comment more aimed about her and John's future kid subject, which of course Kay knew nothing about and that's how she wanted to keep it. "But first.. I need sustanance in the form of food" she quipped, walking to the fridge.

"Can't argue with that" John replied, also looking at what was on offer. The leftovers from last night were gone, presumably to Rinaa. The fridge was well stocked, so John settled for making a toasted sandwich as well as grabbing a box of cereal, which he fully intended to eat dry. He was one of those poepl who either never have milk or only had spoilt milk, so he just didn't bother with it.

Jay took out her food. She'd been keeping an eye on it through out the conversation. There was nowhere for burnt food smell to go on the ship, and even though it was their last day on the ship she didn't want to have to deal with a lingering smell. The ribs were done to perfection, as were the fried potatoes. She grabbed a plate and a set of utensils from a cupboard, before heading up to the cockpit. Her parting words were "Take your food up top, it's gonna take a while to actually agree on a plan" It wasn't an order as such, but her tone implied they had no choice but to follow it.

Kay smirked when John agreed with her little food comment. She was surprised it'd taken them this long to rummage to food and actually get something, considering how hungry they said they were in the crew quarters. "Sure thing, are you up there" she replied to Jay as she left the kitchen.

She made herself a couple of cheese toasted sandwiches and out chilli flakes in it. She lays did like weird combinations of food. She really craved scrambled eggs but she couldn't be bothered to make them, so the sandwiches were the next best choice.

She poured herself another mug of coffee to go with her food, before grabbing her plate with her food on it. "Ready to head upstairs?" She asked John, sipping her coffee.

John grabbed the whiskey bottle and headed out the door. "Yup, let's get this awkwardness started" Somehow he managed to climb up the ladder, without spilling or dropping or anything- a feat which he was ridiculously proud of. Clearly whoever thought it was a good idea to have a ladder up to a cockpit never carried food around with them, eithet that or they had more than the regular two arms humans were gifted with.

Up in the cockpit Jay was in the pilot seat, while Chas and Rinaa were seated opposite another. One was doing a cryptic crossword in a newspaper found who knows where, while the other was doing repair work on an old brown leather jacket. Rinaa was back to being masked, a regression since the day before. At the sight of John and Kay she looked away, pulling her shoulders closer to her ears. John took his usual seat "cryptic crossword in space? Really Chas? Really?" "Yes John, and I see you've finally discovered that there is more than one white shirt in existance on this ship"
