Cameron and Devin Harris
Fireflies | 11, 17 | Current location ;; California

Cameron heard Nate's triumphant declaration and chuckled a little bit. He drew and didn't get his card. "Your turn." He said before he saw the pointed look to his brother and then saw the head cocked to the side. Cameron looked back at Devin's who's eyes were closed and he could see the slow rise and fall of his chest. Cam grinned and reached into his backpack and pulled out a marker. He tilted his head towards Devin then looked at the marker that he'd managed to find and keep. He pantomimed drawing on his face then pointed to Devin.

Nate watched carefully as Cameron pulled out the marker. He was not sure how asleep Devin was, so he decided to continue to sound like they were playing this game, even though they were clearly about to play a different game. “Hmm, let’s see. Do you have any-“ he had to stop himself from giggling as he figured out what Cameron’s plans really were. “Um. Any jacks?” He placed his cards down on the table and ran a finger all over his own face with a quizzical look. He was so amused by this idea! He had never had the opportunity to do something like this, and it sounded so funny, especially since Devin was such a cranky person! He was already nodding though, because he certainly wanted to do that.

Cameron looked at Nate, hearing his question and slid over a card. "Yeah, I do." He said before seeing him put his cards on the table and also run his fingers over his face. Cameron nodded, looking back at Devin. He put a finger to his lips with a smirk. He waited for Nate to ask him about another card as he got up from the table quietly, that smirk never leaving his face.

Nate had never done something like this. Never. He was only ever with his mama, and she was far too serious for this kind of thing. He swallowed that giggle and pretended like this game was still happening. “Great! Do you have a… queen?” He briefly panicked and couldn’t remember all the cards, but this was fine. It didn’t actually matter. He wasn’t even looking at the cards anymore. He too slipped from the table so that he could have a better view of this.

Cameron snickered softly as he heard the question. “Nope! Go fish!” He said not even looking at his cards anymore. He quietly crept over to Devin and uncapped the marker. He proceeded to draw a mustache on his face, and small hearts and stars on his cheeks. Cam swallowed the laughter and he looked at Nate and winked. Then he gestured toward the table like nothing ever happened.

He had to shove both hands over his mouth so that he did not make any noise that might give them away. “Oh man!” he called, which was mostly because this was crazy but also because he was supposed to be sad that he had to go fish. He ran back to the table and grabbed a card. He was now officially lost in the game, because he was too busy trying not to laugh. He shoved his head on the table, covering everything as he shook with the silent laughter.

Cameron pulled pranks on his brother often, and it usually didn’t end well. But he didn’t care either. Now he had someone to share his pranks with and he was loving it. He watched Nate shove his head on the table and Cameron figured it was time for a joke. “Hey Nate knock knock.” He said, figuring this was a brilliant way to laugh out loud without letting on that a prank had occurred.

Without even thinking, Nate asked, “Who’s there?” He hoped that he didn’t sound like he was already about to burst into laughter. He did not pick up on the fact the older boy was being cunning and brilliant in this moment, but he was amused by the fact that Cam was clearly a funny kind of guy. Nate wished he knew more funny people like that.

Cameron looked at Nate and grinned as he thought about the direction to take this joke. “The interrupting cow.” He said, remembering when his brother told him this joke back when they actually got along, when Cameron was 5-6 years old. He missed that time some days but at least he had Nate to hang out with today.

Nate knew knock knock jokes. Some of them. This was not one of them. He narrowed his eyes as he tried to figure out where this could possibly go. He said the words in his head but he could not find a pun anywhere. Granted, he was never very good at puns. They were not his strong suit. In fact, he really was far too analytical for them. “Interrupting cow who?”

Cameron could see Nate narrow his eyes. Was he really trying to analyze this? Hmm. He heard his response and as Nate was saying the last two words, Cam grinned. “Moo!” He said, laughing as he did, his eyes dancing with laughter as he heard Devin snort and wake up. Now Cameron usually hides all evidence of his pranks but the marker had yet to be put away. Devin caught sight of it and stood up, walking over to the window and caught his reflection. “Cameron! I’m going to kill you!”

Nate burst into laughter. He really had not been expecting that and it was so funny! It was so funny because anything could interrupt like that, and yet, it was a cow. A cow of all things! He laughed so hard that he nearly fell out of his chair. And then he did, because he was so startled by Devin’s yelling. That made him laugh even harder as he fell onto the floor. “You have a moustache!”

Cameron laughed, he laughed so hard that he was crying. He laughed even harder when Nate fell out of his chair and then he saw Devin storming towards them. He shrieked as Devin made to grab his shirt, and he ducked out of the way. “I think it makes you look good!” Cameron called, as Devin growled and turned, heading towards him. His eyes were narrowed as he stormed after his brother.

This was just so funny! Nate felt like if he fell asleep and then woke up with a moustache, he would be so amused that he would never ever wash it away. “It makes you look like a wise older man!” He stood up, and then he noticed the cranky look on Devin’s face. He was heading straight for Nate’s new friend and he hated that! He scrambled forward and stepped between them. “I mean look! I think this is a great, harmless joke. And it give you something fun to be while you’re stuck in here anyway, right?”

Devin’s attention snapped to Nate, hearing him. He wasn’t expecting for the younger one to step in between them. He bit his lip and growled, he could rough up his brother. He couldn’t however, rough up someone else’s kid. “Move out of the way.” Devin’s voice was rough as he crossed his arms over his chest. Cameron was used to dealing with his brother this way, but his eyes widened when Nate stepped in between them.

Nate still didn’t like Devin’s attitude. He wondered if this was how all older brothers were. Thank goodness he didn’t have one! He did not move. Instead, he stayed right there, even though the older brother was absolutely terrifying. Was he going to hurt them? Maybe? Maybe he was just mad. Nate met a lot of people who were just mad before, and he was used to dealing with them, especially when they wanted to treat him like he wasn’t as good or cool or whatever for all the many reasons. “Uh, I uh don’t think I want to. Um, because…” Because? “Because I mean come on, man. You don’t have to be so mad. It’s not like he did anything mean or harmful.” Oh! “In fact, I think maybe we could all do better like this. Cam, Cam, can you…” he couldn’t do this himself. He didn’t know enough about Devin. “Can you hand me the marker?”

Cameron watched as Nate almost tried to defuse the situation and he wasn't surprised that Devin wasn't backing down. Devin glared at Nate as he heard him, arms still crossed over his chest. Cam heard Nate's question and tilted his head. If he moved out from behind Nate, he was afraid Devin would change course to go after him anyway. He slipped away and watched his brother who was focused on Nate and wondering just what was on Nate's mind. He grabbed the marker and slipped back over to Nate and handed it to him. "Here you go."

So Nate’s gamble worked. Cameron could move when Nate couldn’t. He was so smart. His mama would definitely be proud of that! She loved hearing about when he accomplished smart things. Nate made sure not to move too much as he took the marker from Cam. He turned his head like his mama did, a sign of trust to the person you aren’t looking at she told him, and smiled as he held up the marker. “I bet whatcha really think’sno good is that it’s not very becoming. But it is! You just need to see it somewhere else.” He fully turned away from him now, facing Cam. He was trusting that this was at least weird enough to push Devin off course. He could be wrong, and it could go real bad. He held the marker out to Cam. “Draw on the wisdom! Make me a man with a moustache.” With his finger, he pantomimed the same thing that Cam did. “And add any, um… embellishments you think might add to the.. charm.”

Cameron looked at Devin, who was focused entirely on Nate. He rose an eyebrow and saw him turn to face Cam. What was this boy thinking? Cameron caught on quick when he was handed the marker and nodded. He took it and started drawing the same thing on Nate's face, including the stars and hearts on his cheeks. Devin snorted a laugh, seeing the drawing on Nate's face. "Okay, now do Cameron." He said, smirking and Cam dropped the marker, backing up and shaking his head. "No.. no no.."

Nate kind of giggled and laughed as Cameron was drawing on him, because it for sure tickled. He was not prepared for that part. He tried to stay still, but it was hard when he was a wiggly little boy. As soon as it was finished, he fully turned himself towards Devin, giving Cam time to do whatever it was that he was thinking as he was backing up. “Am I the most manly man of them all?” he asked as he tried to hide his giggle. He turned back to Cam who was already backing up after having dropped the marker. “Oh, we’re doing him next. Everyone gets a moustache.” He bent down and grabbed the marker. “You cannot escape the inevitable! Find your inner man!” He moved towards him with marker dramatically uncapped.

Cameron had heard Nate giggling when he'd drawn on him, and noticed him wiggle too. But what he wasn't expecting was for the marker to turn around on him. "Nate.." Cameron said, backing up. "You'll have to catch me first!" Cam said, turning and running away, though he couldn't go far in that small room, he could dodge and run in circles though. "You can't catch me!" He said with a giggle. He was going to do his best to stay as far away from Nate as he could.

Nate, brandishing a marker as his chosen weapon, giggled as Cam ran from him. So, naturally, he ran after him. “Oh, I’m so gonna catch you! You have to be a refined and wise man like the rest of us!” It was uncapped for maximum opportunity to get anything on his face if he could catch him. He was not too fast, so he was not sure if this was going to work. He might have to outsmart him at some point. Cut him off if he learned Cam’s running patterns.

Devin watched as Nate brandished the marker, running after Cameron. Cam laughed as he ran. "Never!" He shouted behind him, his head turned to look back at Nate. What he wasn't expecting was for Devin to grab his shoulders, stopping him and turning him so his back was against Devin's chest. "Got you little bro." Devin said with a laugh, turning to look at Nate. "Come on over. He needs a mustache like the rest of us." Devin said, holding firm as Cameron squirmed and wriggled trying to get free.

Nate ran after Cam without much luck. How was he supposed to catch him? Was he going to have to cut him off or something? And even if he did, how was he supposed to draw this moustache on? The answer was Devin. Devin, who was too cool for them or whatever, held onto a squirmy Cameron right there for Nate. Was he helping? Playing? Did this crazy idea work? Apparently! Don’t question it, Nate. Just do it. “You can’t run from your destiny, Cam!” He giggled before he drew the first side of the moustache. He was already laughing hysterically before he even got the other side. “And you need the stars!” He quickly drew those on too and then backed up. “Behold! A masterpiece! What do you think Devin? Did I do good?”

Cam squirmed in Devin's iron hold, trying not to laugh at the tickling sensation of marker on his face. "Stop!" He said, but the laughing in his words took away from the stop. The moment Nate was done, Devin spun Cameron around and smirked, nodding. "Much better." He said with a laugh, and Cameron huffed out, looking over at Nate. "I thought you were my friend, not here to help my brother pick on me." Cam pouted as he crossed his arms over his chest, but the smile on his face betrayed any seriousness.
