Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Had this just been John and Chas playing, they would have been elbowing each other in the ribs or trying to obscure the other's view in order to get ahead in the game. But they refrained from doing that. So copious amounts of cursing had to suffice instead, both having a wide and extensive variety, spanning across more than one language. They too also figured out the power-ups and quickly developed strategies of some sort. As soon as one passed out the other, it became a personal mission to catch back up and pass them out.

Rinaa watched them with an amused expression from the doorway. After regaining consciousness, she had cleaned up the blood from herself and everywhere else, along with pulling on a new t-shirt. She too had headed down to the rec room in the hope that nobody would be there and she could crash out on the couch in peace, but found the others there.

Kay was getting just as competitive as the other two, even if she only knew English curse words. It didn't seem to matter what she did though, she couldn't keep her second place position for long when she managed to snag it, always falling back to third place. Despite what language came out her mouth, or techniques she used in the game, she was having a good time and enjoying herself. It felt like forever ago since she did anything like this, so it was very welcome.

Due to being so involved with the game she never realised that Rinaa had woken up and came downstairs to find them there. She would have asked how she was if she did notice her.

Chas was enjoying himself as well. Real life driving skills in no way translated to Mario Kart skills, but he was pretty good either way. He wasn't at all a master, his strategy when he first started playing was, I'm not going to win this, so let's fuck it up for everybody else, a trait which still showed in his gaming. John was an equal mix of 'ah feck it, let's see what'll happen' and 'I have to win this bloody game.' They were totally absorbed on the game, not noticing the watcher in the shadows either.

It was John who won, speeding past the other two at the last minute to claim victory. There was little between Chas and Kay when they both crossed the line. Chas smirked and turned to John "Still not letting you drive my cab mate"

If she was playing against anyone else, she'd have been an incredibly sore loser, but considering she made an utter fool out of John on twister, she accepted her defeat slightly more graciously. She came third by a time margin, and put the controller down on the floor before she changed her sitting position once again, due to her feet going numb from sitting on them the entire time.

"Probably a good idea!" She laughed whilst replying to Chas' comment towards John. It was in that moment, she looked up at them both and then noticed Rinaa in the back behind them, hiding in the shadows. "Oh hey..how you doing?" She asked Rinaa, looking passed John and Chas.

John just pulled a face. "It sounds like you guys don't trust me at all." There was a teasing edge to his tone. "That's because I don't trust you at all with any vehicle with more than two wheels. You'll drive my cab over either my dead or my heavily bleeding and unconscious body." John refrained from chucking the console at Chas's head, settling for a mock pissed off look, but it was clear from his eyes that he was laughing internally.

The two followed Kay's line of sight to see Rinaa against the doorframe. Had it not been for Kay spotting her she would have slipped away like a ghost and found somewhere else to go. "Besides the general depression, self destructive tendencies, dark thoughts, the general mess that is my life and my perpetual questioning of all my life choices you mean?" Her face didn't need to be seen in order to tell that she had raised an eyebrow while posing her rhetorical question." I'll live, side hurts like a bitch though."

Kay was sure one day she'd bang the two of their heads together, even though she knew they're ere just messing around. "I'm gonna trust Chas' opinion on your driving a lot more than yours...just sayin'" she chuckled. She commented, just before she had noticed Rinaa.

She took in what Rinaa said and it sounded a lot like how the three of them would respond to such a question. "Yeah..apart from all that. But I'm glad you're alright..despite the pain" she told her, for the first time her tone was genuine towards Rinaa. It didn't mean she still trusted her fully mind, she just wouldn't wish death upon any of them. She glanced at the time on her phone and pulled herself up onto her feet, by pushing herself up on John's legs. She really needed to get off the floor as her ass was going numb.

"Well, to quote some wise words of wisdom......life's a bitch and then you die" was Rinaa's response, something in her tone that said her words weren't just a sarcastic quip to act as a coping mechanism. John raised an eyebrow at her response, it was a response he could easily imagine himself or Elliott giving, maybe Jay. "And what is the source of this divine wisdom? Space Donald Trump's Twitter? The feed on some random social influencer on Astral-Instagram?"

Rinaa's response was a quick retort, a grin in her tone "No, plain old Earth Pinterest" she replied so dead-pan that it had to be a joke. "Classy" Chas smirked. "It could be worse, could have been Urban Dictionary. Intergalactic Urban dictionary is....interesting....... to say the least."

Kay smirked, knowing the saying all too well. She tried not to have that kind of outlook though, though it did always amuse her greatly. She sniggered at John's reaction and response to her comment, yet it was Rinaa's reply to him that made her laugh more.

"I'm gonna take your word on that one." She said to her, about her last little remark. She could only vaguely imagine the kind of things that would be in such a book or on a website. Kay then toyed with what to do or say next. Should she stay in the rec room or go and do her usual go to activity and cook or bake? She decided to leave, "I'm gonna go get some food on..proper food that is." She said, so they knew where she'd be. She didn't want them all wondering where the hell she was on the ship, of something happened or she didn't show her face for a while.

So she left the room in a casual manner, not even bothering to show her usual small affection toward John or Chas. Climbing up the stairs she headed to the kitchen, and went through the bags of shopping to decide what to cook up.

"The massive rack of ribs is Jay's, but everything else up there except Chas's alcohol is fair game" Rinaa responded, earning a nod of approval from Chas l. She hadn't been shopping with them, but she had helped create the list and had taken stock of what was actually around when she realised that nobody had actually packed the food away. So she had done that too, the last thing they needed to deal with was deal with rotten meat.

When Kay left, at Chas's insistence Rinaa took up the abandoned controller and joined the game. She propped her elbows over the back of the couch, half hanging off it, half standing up.

Kay just nodded in reply before she had left. She remembered about the alcohol thing being Chas'. In the kitchen, she went through the fridges as well before finding stuff to cook a big hot pot dish with home made dumplings. She figured it'd be a good one to go for as like her signature rice dish, it would serve everyone with no worries. It also meant she'd be in the kitchen for a while to make things perfect.

She was content being on her own for a while, as she pulled out all the ingredients, prepared them and heated up the stove. Tying her hair up in her signature messy ponytail, she started singing to herself as she cooked. It wasn't anything in particular but it was a little tune that had been running her mind for a little while now. She just kept it to herself. Truth was, it had been in her head ever since she put on the family necklace.

At first John wasn't quite sure how to react to having Rinaa join them. She'd never shown any interest in being around them before. But he wasn't going to argue about it, and besides two player gaming just wasn't as fun as three player. Even if the third player was broody and had yet to show her real face. But Rinaa was now quite content to lean over the couch and proceed to do her damn hardest to beat them. The name she had chosen for herself was 'Death Yeeter'.

For the first while the dynamic was awkward, none of them quite sure how to deal with each other. But slowly the ice melted. And before long they were laughing their heads off doing shitty Trivia Quizzes and blindfolded Mario Kart where the one unblindfolded person would shout directions at both of the blindfolded ones.

Kay wondered how they were getting on with Rinaa but didn't put too much thought into it. She kept singing to herself and humming as she got everything on the stove and simmering away. It was during this time she prepared the dumplings and everything else. If she had taken note of her own thoughts, she probably would have noticed the tiniest twinges of unknown emotions coursing through her.

It was only when she finally stopped, having put the dumplings into the hot pot, then covering it with a layer of potato, that she truly started noticing that things didn't feel entirely normal in her. She shrugged it off initially, as she sat on the table as per usual, whilst she waited for it all to cook. It would take a while but she didn't want to have to go all the back to the rec room just to come all the way back up again. "You're overthinking everything again" "I'm really not, but now you speaking is going to make me worried" "I can literally feel your conscious and emotions.. what's yours is mine Kay" "Fee please shut your cake hole...I'm just tired of being in this ship and feel like we're getting nowhere...that's all" "Kay, you can't lie to me" "fuck off..." She all but had an argument with Fee.

This went on the entire time the meal was cooking, before she jumped up and felt the biggest headache hit her. Something she hadn't got for a long time. "..fuck" she muttered to herself, clutching her head. She tried to shake it off and ignore it, as she found a tannoy system that went to the whole ship. "Dinner is done! So come get it!" She spoke through it.

Despite being the furthest away, Chas, John and Rinaa arrived fairly quickly after the call. John and Chas took the same seats as the night before. Rinaa took her spot against the wall, slightly away from the group, as if to emphasise her position in it. Part of the group, yet not part of it at the same time. She wasn't wearing the mask, but had perfected the art of obscuring most of her face from all angles. It wasn't to conceal her identity, Chas thought, but more of because she didn't want them to see her face. There was a difference between the two, a marginal one, but in the context of Rinaa, it could be a massive thing.

After some debating, Jay emerged from the cockpit. The dark circles around her eyed were more pronounced than they had been a few hours ago. There was a redness to her silver eyes that suggested she had been crying. But the rest of her body language radiated tenseness and defensiveness. Yet Rinaa questioned anyway, but not in English, and not in Elliott's native tongue, knowing full well that the table was full of nosy parkers. Jay's response was terse, but impactful. Rinaa's next statement was a condolence of some sort, which Jay accepted with a nod.

After Kay made the announcement she started dishing it a up in the bowls from last night that were of course all washed and ready to use again. She gave Chas and John the first two, then gave Jay hers, deciding to not comment on the statenof her, then put Rinaa's near her but still giving her the space she blatantly wanted.

She took her own bowl last and sat with John and Chas, opposite them like the night before, except this time she sat on the chair and not on the table. She ate quietly, fairly happy with what she made. It wasn't bad by any means, it stood up to the rest of her cooking but the headache that came and vanished threw her off. But she put on a poker face for the sake of everyone and did not want to deal with the whole 'youre not okay, stop bullshitting me' scenario again with John. She was convinced she only had it because Fee decided to retaliate after her telling Fee to fuck off anyway.

The mood in the kitchen was awkward. Nobody commented on Jay, choosing to keep their traps shut. They didn't speak much at all, apart from the occasional few lines between Jay and Rinaa, the younger girl clearly weaselling out the story, with some kind of success. But regardless of the gloomy atmosphere, they all appreciated the food, that much was evident. And as the saying goes, hunger is a fine sauce.

As was convulsing and nearly dying in the med bay. Rinaa finished far ahead of everybody else, almost inhaling the food. "geez kid, when did you last eat?" Chas remarked, eyebrow raised at the already empty bowl. "This morning....I think"

Kay, like the other two, kept her mouth shut and instead, just noticed how Rinaa was managing to get some kind of conversation out of Jay in another language. She was glad Jay would talk to someone, even if it was only a little bit. Kay also observed discreetly and noted how everyone was thankful for the proper food and yet again, it made her feel useful.

She glanced up when Chas remarked on Rinaa already finishing her food. "There's still a bit left of you want it, only just under a portion but it's there" she added, aiming the comment at Rinaa. She knew she wouldn't want anymore by the time she finished her meal, and she'd rather the rest got eaten than thrown away.

"And you're bitching at me to eat? Tiny bit hypocritical, don't you think?" Jay had to smirk at Rinaa's remark. Rinaa snarked back "well excuuuuuse me for having the appetite of somebody who nearly died." She then proceeded to flip Jay off, before taking up the extra food, and began tucking in. To the surprise of John and Chas, Rinaa's gesture only made Jay's grin widen, as she returned it with both hands.

John have Chas a look that said I really don't understand people, espescially these two. Chas's answering look said same here.

Kay only half listened to what was being said. She could hear what being said, but she wasn't taking much notice of it. She didn't even look at the facial expressions that were exchanged between John and Chas. If she had bothered to look up to notice them, and took more notice of what was being said, she probably would have mirrored John's expression.

She didn't even finish her food, which was unusual for her, especially as she hated the idea of wasting food. She just pushed her bowl away from her. "Whoever wants the rest of mine can have it. I'm full" she half lied, keeping her poker face on. It seemed that Fee retaliation really pissed her off.

John and Chas were both full, as was Jay, and, after finishing her second portion, so was Rinaa. The dreadlocked girl shrugged, her appetite wasn't endless after all "eh, just put it in the fridge for now, I'll eat it for breakfast tomorrow" she then turned to Chas "Med-bay is cleaned up if you want to sleep there...or you could just move to the couch in the rec room, which is far more comfortable." Chas considered, before nodding "I'll take your advice on that one"

They all departed the room, Jay first, followed quickly by Rinaa, the two heading up to the cockpit, leaving the hatch open this time. Then Chas left to move his stuff to the rec room. That left just Kay and John in the kitchen.

Kay nodded at Rinaa saying she'll eat her left overs tomorrow. "Sure thing" she replied. Standing up, she took her bowl and did what was suggested as Rinaa suggested to Chas to move to the rec room. Closing the door to the fridge, she was aware of the others eventually leaving, and yet again it was just her and John in the kitchen.

"Alone again" she smirked, leaning against the counter, thinking the lot of them have a habit of leaving the two of them alone. Not that she minded of she was honest. She enjoyed being alone with him, if she didn't she wouldn't be falling in love with the guy. "So, How'd the tournament end up?" She decided to try and make small talk, anything to ignore her headache from Fee.

John leant back in the chair and propped his feet up on the table. "They do have a habit of doing that" He didn't mind either, clearly the two pilot people had issues to resolve or schemes to plan, or whatever it was that they were doing. And Chas liked to be alone and read, he was known for reading in the cab while John was out doing what he did best, being the British demon bashing arsehole. It was their differences that made them such a good team, the thought.

"The kid completly trashed us, she has this massively competitive streak, and some serious skills. Then it kind of disintegrated into blindfolded Mario Kart." It wasn't praise exactly, but John felt the need to add "still don't know what to make of the kid to be honest, it seems like sometimes she wants to be part of everything, where as other times it's the opposite, like she doesn't want to be anywhere near us"

Kay couldn't help but nod whilst keeping the smirk on her lips when he spoke what she was thinking as he leaned back in the chair. The others leaving them alone wasn't the only habit that was present. She listened to what he had to say about Rinaa joining them on the tournament of mario kart. It brought a chuckle out.

Then he added the next lot and she nodded, "I've noticed that...it definitely makes her hard to work out. Guess it means we'll never really figure her out unless she wants us to but it is a headache. She's like a walking bloody yo-yo" she replied with a sigh, with the word headache being mentioned, it made rub her own temples.

John had to agree with the yo-yo comparison. It was very fitting for Rinaa, and brought a smile to his face, and a laugh. He didn't fall off the chair thankfully, but it did wobble alarmingly. "I bet she's doing it deliberately to piss us off or throw us off the scent or something. The only one of us she seems to actually get on with consistently is Jay, but even then"

He noticed her rubbing her forehead, remembering how she used to do that before Kay and Fee had been fully merged together. He hadn't seen her do that since, so maybe it was a genuine headache, but he was skeptical. "Headache?" He questioned, not needing a full sentence to convey his meaning.

She looked on as his chair wobbled a bit, expecting him to fall over completely, mostly because of it was her? She would have stacked majorly. Luckily, he didn't and she knew she wouldn't have to pick him up off the floor. "Mm.." she replied about the Jay and Rinaa comment.

She looked up and stopped rubbing her temple when he questioned her about the headaches. She got instantly he knew she hadn't had them since her mergence with Fee. "Yeah..just Fee being an utter cow..it's nothing." She told him, knowing it fruitless to lie to him. She tried before lying and he completely called her out on it, so she knew it there was no point in attempting that play again.

"I'll stay out of it then, I'd probably only make it worse" It stood to reason that the two halves would fight at some point or another, Hells it was practically expected and guaranteed. He had dealt with very few dual personalities in his life, but when it came to the few he had, the dynamic between the two was always bloody complicated. It made sense and no doubt it got frustrating not being able to leave the other person for a while and get away from them.

He really didn't want to get involved in what ever it was that was going on between them. It wasn't in his description as Kay's......whatever exactly he was. That whole drama still needed to be sorted out at some point, but now was hardly the time. He once again found himself really craving a smoke. Somehow polluting his lungs with tar helped to make his life clearer for a few brief moments.
