Nation Building Ghost in the Machine

ive realized that not naming something can be the best way to keep fear in a peoples heart

fear of the unknown can go a seriously long way

well thank god I don't feel guilty though I thought the font for the Bio stuff was all right. Meh, one can always be wrong

Right Grieve, im going to ask YOU this question since all the rest of these bastards don't seem to want to poke at it with a ten foot long poke.

Anything on paper besides grammar I could do to improve the Dredge or how I present them? I like these things and ive been working hard on version two

Honestly, from what Atom has planned for the borg plotline, all the characters pale in comparison to the final bosses that will come at the end of the chapter.

I've also got a plot lined up that Atom's plot will lead up to that is going to be pretty spooky in and of itself too.

Well, characters are defined back their actions or their approach to situations, so if you want to better represent a character then just imagine every major thing that influenced their decision and base their actions off of it. If you want them to be memorable characters then the specific mix of previous events that influence them are going to be essential in developing a connection between them and the reader.

Also, define Version 2...

And Rom, I think that's alright, it just means that our main characters are gonna be pretty much forced to work together and I can respect that in these types of RPs.

@Jarkov Malachai

Also Veely's really an underling and in some senses is being used himself. He's also more versed in commanding fleets rather than fighting on the front lines so if he was confronted in combat, he'd most likely die. Holly's also a more minor character but is a nightguard so she can hold her own.

I haven't really introduced super important Nafarian characters yet asside from Zander and one or two posts regarding Nuk. Otherwise, the rest are locked away on Rofiria until I can get someone over there to RP out those chain of events that lead up to the civil war and introduce bigger, more important Nafarian characters.

Ill get a post up by tonight Rom on what the hell went down below.

Also sorry Grieve that isn't what I meant at all, I already know how to make a great character and don't need any opinion on that one, I was talking about the species as a overall whole. What was confusing in the CS and what I needed to clear up on... besides the shit I need to fix of course. Theres still all those WIP's in the biological assessment that im still working on, but imma fix those in version two and get the numbers solidified and proven.

[edit] should have been more specific my bad

Jarkov you're the only person I know that's crunched numbers for soft science.

I kinda had to in order so that I know what my things can do and cannot do, more so I can play them fairly than just say... FUCK IT HE PUNHCES THROUGH THE WALL!

I mean, Nagashira did but I doubt Moroc could punch through anything other than couple inches of steel.

though lets be honest the whole phasing onto the skin thing... sure it helps that they use the hosts systems but in reality im pretty sure that would not work. Theres plenty of things I can only get away with in soft science with the Dredge, other things I feel like I had to figure out with real numbers in order to keep them balanced and help myself use them correctly in the correct scenario's... plus it was kinda fun and rewarding after I figured some shit out, more than one fist pump and victory dance was used in their creation let me say that.

Actually, I've seen two or three characters similar in terms of abilities be done by others without any numbers, research or the like, but I can respect someone's dedication to their characters.

*shrugs and grins* my dedication to these things is one reason how ive been able to get away with some things. Also being able to prove something about your character helps in certain scenario's and hurts in others. Its easier to win a wrestling match if you can prove how much your character can lift while the other guy simply goes. "hes a lot stronger than that, like super strong." yes, actual quote from someone, may you rest in pieces Ambers

though to answer Grieve Version Two is simply a more refined, better version of the Serai'Drakhoul with less weird buggy shit and mayhaps a couple thousand years down the line in advancement though they shall retain their creepiness. These things sprung from a horror rp as im sure your all aware and I like em like that. But I shall raaaaaaaiiiise them up from the pit they lie in and free them from the shackles which bind them! Mainly im working on culture and the like after I fix their bio stuff.

A society based in breaking limits and proving oneself with a sound foundation of morals to keep it rooted and not becoming a cut throat political slug fest. . . ehh im going to have to think harder on that one.

Even though this is soft sci fi SOME form of rules

must exist in order to keep

It from descending into incomprehensible chaos.

If any universe exists without some set of rules and limitations for characters to conform to it'll end up being a tad ridiculous and cheesey. Although it works really well for parodies.

Obviously lol

I do believe we go by the rule of common sense haha

Common sense? so can I get a Class E dredge for the Kukri after this?

*chuckles*

Naaaw im just joking, a Class E couldn't even fit inside the cargo bay of the Kukri

Well, yeah but a lot of our things such as pisonic abilities, the various forms of FTL travel our various species uses, how we measure time in a soft sci fi universe and creating masses of living armies from energy obviously fall out of the realm of common sense and break a lot of scientific laws and theories and therefore need rules of their own that we create to keep things tame and limited.

Indeed, like My Deep Drive, my own take on how to get from place to place... uses a lot of unproven theories that probably wont ever get near right in my grandchildrens lifetime... buts its cool as fuck. Sometimes you have to forgo the laws of science in soft science in favor of EPICNESS though tempered with common sense

Right, just look at what happened to the wachowski brothers.
Those poor, poor Wachowskis
Weren't they the ones who made-

Oh good Lord they were the ones who made that "movie".

Sof Sci-fi and its limitations, which segwayed into the Wachowski Brothers, which segwayed into Jupiter Ascending. Now that is a unfortunate incident of a film if I've ever seen one, and I've seen some.

Concept art was hella dope tho'. George Hull does his job well.

I enjoyed the movie actually.

I mean it was stupid as fuck to center around a romance, but the setting, concept of the universe, that was the shit.
