Alrighty! I'm back from vacation. Did I miss anything important?
Welcome back! How was vacation?

Nothing too crazy. We're all still working on getting characters done. Saw you PM'ed me for some discussion/help. I'll hit you back shortly.

It came and went! A few days after and it felt like I never went.

I think Kotezira is just going to murder Venaar. Venaar is like basically everything the spirits hate tied up with a neat little bow, and presumably that makes her Kotezira's hated enemy. They've got this Princess Mononoke-esque thing going on, and are shaping up to be mortal enemies.

Ha! Finding great relationships already!

Lol Kote might want to murder Venaar, but Venaar might want to murder Kersh. If if just for annoyance.

Whereas Venaar essentially gave up her freedom and life to access and master magic, Kersh had an ability inherent to him. And given him being a shaman, doesn't know anything about the "cultured and subtle machinations of all things aether and aether accessories".

The general sort of fun that can be between wizards and (as I assume the Immolator closer represents) a sorcerer.

Also! You seem to be well into how magic works! So how do you think, or would you say, Kersh sort-of free-form fire magic/bending would work?

Would it be aether? If so, which kind? Would it fall into Umbral, Astral, or something else? Do you think it would be something different than aether?

Well i havent really explained much about my character or written it up yet.

But the jist is they are a shaman from a native tribe within a great bog in the frozen north called the Fenwood Labyrinth, in self imposed exile after a tragedy that lead to his affliction, looking to start anew and keep to his calling among the way.

So, as we're wrapping up sheets, I think we have a decent enough outline of who you all are.

What kind of group of adventurers are you? Mercenaries? Treasure Hunters? Monster Hunters? Explorers? Something else?

I think we brought up monster hunters at some point. But for a group of monster slayers we certainly aren't specialists at it lol.

But there is a commonality between most of our drives, in that in some form or another we are to help or protect others. Maybe we could start thinking along those lines?

I like that idea a lot.

So, kind of a defense force...that is hopefully rewarded? Or takes jobs for money.

Mercenary, Treasure Hunter, or Explorer would make the most sense for my character. But really, just about anything would work. I left his current whereabouts and profession a little open, given the collaborative worldcrafting, along with the character being rather young. Monster hunting...well, I guess it depends on the monster. We're a little green for dragon or giant slaying. :-P

So, if you're all good, I think we go the Defenders/Avengers route? For hire?

Also, I think we just need a few more details on D. Rex D. Rex 's sheet to be complete. He and I talked about what those were, so I think we're good.

All that in mind, let's do bonds. In the interest of making this easier, let's change it up. Normally, you go around the table asking your bonds questions for people to volunteer which they fit.

Instead, I want you all to post you bonds questions on your sheets (which some of you already have). Once that's done, I want you to look at everyone else's character, pick a bond from their bond questions, and let them know to fill your name in the blank.

Venaar would definitely classify Kersh as a walking wound in the veil, uncontrollably bleeding an endless stream of Astral Aether all over everything. In her opinion, he's just begging for an Astral incursion. How Kersh's people see magic is likely completely different.

Venaar is, as written, on a leave of public service. She's taken the train from the capital as far as it goes to meet with provincial officials, been assigned to some rural outpost, taken a stagecoach to get there, been fobbed off on the mayor of some border village, and probably been subjected to riding a farmer's cart the rest of the way to a place that barely knows it's part of the empire. Some nobles come along every so often and proclaim they're part of one nation or another, but the harvest comes in - or doesn't - all the same. The mayor doesn't know what to make of her, and frankly she creeps them out, so they've assigned her to hunt monsters as far from the village as they can get her. She expected to be building infrastructure somewhere or blessing crops, not used as a blunt instrument, and is offended but can't disobey. As envisaged, she isn't really in this for the money, she's here for the good of the Empire and to serve out her term.

Which of you am I sworn to protect? [This could be Venaar if instead of being from the nameless Empire she was from the Republic, and Geratius Volus was the one assigned to watch over her both as protection and executioner if she goes rogue.]
Which of you is most likely to get us all killed? [This seems more like a Kersh thing than Venaar, but Venaar is overconfident and will absolutely overreach her skills and cause all sorts of complications, which could get us all killed.]

Venaar could claim all four of the Druid questions, but I won't do that.
Which of you requires my guidance? [Arguably.]
About which of you do the spirits whisper? [Definitely, and they probably have nothing nice to say.]
Which of you dismisses me as a primitive? [Definitely.]
Which of you has also seen the spirit realm? [Definitely, but through a very different lens.]

Which of you has felt the touch of hellfire before? [Debatable, actually. To Venaar, hellfire is Astral Aether, and she might have experienced/witnessed an Astral Aether explosion or incursion, but she's definitely experienced several Umbral incursions.]
Which of you is playing with fire? [Definitely.]

These two are hard, as it sort of depends on what the definition of 'faithful' is. Probably 'least faithful', as she views worshipping gods as a dangerous activity that will ultimately bring ruin, but she has a strong faith in the empire and in the sciences.
Which of you is the most faithful in my eyes?
Which of you is the least faithful in my eyes?

This sounds awesome I want to be a "walking wound in the veil, uncontrollably bleeding an endless stream of Astral Aether all over everything"

I dont know what it means but it sounds epic and highly dangerous.

Unless it means a tiny but of for hire work, I don't think Kersh would fit here. I dont quite know how the geography is, Kersch is from the far north, but it is possible you would have seen him as part of fighters if Geratius was moving through there. They don't like people in their swamp.

Which of you am I sworn to protect? I'm not sure how much reason one would have to protect Kersh. Though Venaar could make good sense.

Which of you is most likely to get us all killed? Yeah... probably Kersh. Werewolf. Flamethrower. A bit charasmatically domineering sometimes. But in his defense, he is smart enough to... well... not get you all killed. His job was to provide protection and wisdom to his village, so its not like he is a loose cannon. Could easily be a the here between him and Vanaar.

Which of you needs me to toughen them up?
Kersh is from way back in the swamp boonies. And his main stat is going to be Constitution. Plus he can regenerate if you throw him in a bonfire and can probably come back to life a time or too. I'd say he's pretty tough. I was expecting a squish but accidentally made a tank.

Druid: Pumpkin Spice Cyanide Pumpkin Spice Cyanide
Which of you requires my guidance?
Maybe. Just maybe. Kersh has been so used to giving wisdom to help the lives of others move on, he hasn't always stopped to think if he needed help the way he always gave it. So, maybe.

About which of you do the spirits whisper?
They probably say some confusing things about Kersh. On one hand, he is a werewolf. On the other, his power could ruin forests, or put them out.

Which of you dismisses me as a primitive?
Kersh couldn't call her primitive without calling himself primitive. He is from a pretty secluded tribe. Having just incorporated a few elements from the more civilized.

Which of you has also seen the spirit realm?
I would say that it is likely that Kersh has. Being a Shaman, he would have held concern over spirits in his tribes region, he would have communed with them for the wellness of his people.

Cleric: Bone2pick Bone2pick
Which of you is the most faithful in my eyes?
Depends on who he would need to be faithful to. Kersh is respectful to the spirits, and sees gods as like powerful spirits. While I have not thought up his tribes religion, it is very likely that those in the swamp, particular the fire benders, do revere a god of the fire domain. Who? I dont know.

Which of you is the least faithful in my eyes?
See above.

Which of you most needs my protection?
Like with Geratius, I can't think of Kersh needing protection.

Which of you has the strongest soul, even if your faith is misguided?
Of these Cleric bonds, this one is probably most applicable to Kersh. A strong and good soul who has been trying his best to cling in to his purpose and humanity despite the murder of his wife and his curse. Strong willed. strong of heart. As well, his background is literally "Phoenix-Souled" so there is that. That's got to mean your soul is pretty potent, right?

Wizard: Random Word Random Word
Which of you has a dark fate that I have foreseen?
Possibly? Given his powers and a lot of mention around "sacrifice" in his character sheet. Kersh will be hard pressed to have a light fate to forsee.

Which of you understands magic the least?
Kersh would definitely not understand magic the way Venaat does. As you said, probably seeing it through a completely different lens. While he would most certainly understand his powers. I could also see it being very infuriating for her.

Which of you is keeping secrets from me?
Kersh probably wouldn't go into personal details of life too much. But he isn't holding any real secrets, except being a werewolf. Of which you don't advertise. Though if you been with him more than a month or two, you would probably already know this.

Let me explain better.

Bonds are shared connections that your character shares with the other characters. The idea is that these bonds connect all the characters together. And, essentially, it's a loose measure of how well you know the other characters. NOTE: NOT how well you LIKE the other characrters or what you think about them, just how well you know them. How well you can judge what they'll do next.

It's important to point out that for the purposes of this game, you are all allies working together. You may not even like each other, but for some reason—that we can discover through play if we want—you have decided to work together as a group and you know each other.

Now, back to bonds. How bonds work is that your character sheet has a set of questions you ask each out loud at the table and each player can choose one to have a bond with your character.

To speed this up for our PbP, instead I'd like you go to look at each of the other player's sheets and pick one you want your character to use as their bond. So, for example. Say I'm playing Jack Danger as my character (let's just pretend). I'd go look at your post in the CS thread for Kotezira and find your bonds questions:
  • Which of you requires my guidance?
  • About which of you do the spirits whisper?
  • Which of you dismisses me as a primitive?
  • Which of you has also seen the spirit realm?
I'll choose "Which of you dismisses me as a primitive?" as my bond with you. So, now we have a bond. My character Jack is an jerk and dimisses Kotezira as a primitive.

You do that for each character and tell the player which you're choosing for your character.

Does that make more sense?
