This wasn't meant to turn into a rant, I'm sorry, I did not realize my own question was going to ignite these irks I have about the Danganronpa fandom. But I got to get these off my chest.I have a question of the day but I'm not sure how to ask it so let me explain.
What do you not like about the Fandom your character is from?
Maybe the Fandom misinterprets important aspects of your character. Or an all around headcanon the Fandom agrees with that you disagree with. Maybe you don't like the way the character is portrayed within Fandom spaces. A ship that's popular but you don't understand it.
I'm very cerious, I like hearing people's unpopular opinions and how they feel about a character.
Komaeda is clingy:
A clingy person is defined by exhibiting excessive attachments or dependency on someone. Komaeda, never once, is dependent on Hinata. In fact, he tends to disappear to do investigations by himself for the majority of the game and takes over class trails to solve the cases. The only time he is depends on others is for his own manipulation tactics, like when he depends on Fukawa's serial killer personality not sharing memories with her other half in Ultra Despair Girls. Or when he is dependent on Togami's sense of responsible, hoping someone could stop him before he commits the crime. But by using the note, it triggered a domino effect that led to the first kill in Chapter 1. His attachments to Hinata are linked to their shared similarities, he says as much during his last few Free Time Events. He sees himself in Hinata and wants to become friends with him because he takes the time to understand him instead of villainizing him. Even if he purposefully keeps himself at arm's length. If he was clingy, he would have put more effort into stopping Hinata whenever he walks away yet he only speaks about how disappointing it is. Komaeda isn't clingy, he is more evidently lonely and doesn't know how to express that.
The fandom misinterpreting 絶対希望バースデー (Absolute Hope Birthday) to be about Hinata/Kamukura:
絶対希望バースデー and 残桜 -zanka- are meant to represent how Komaeda sees himself externally and internally. The fact he only sees himself externally as this broken thing to be used and how much he thinks about it... is one of the saddest things I've ever found out about this character. The repetitive nature of the lyrics could represent how his dementia warps his thoughts. There's lyrics sprinkled in, alluding to him missing who he used to be as FTD tends to change people completely, unrecognizable to loved ones and themselves. There's a darker implication I won't get into but some of the fandom caught on and started depicting him in really unsavory ways. And I just... It doesn't matter who he is referring to in this song, it's about how little he thinks of himself.
The fandom being petty, just in general:
They're either purposely portraying Komaeda ooc, by making him abusive in their fanfictions because they don't like him or a ship he is in. Or depicting him in art being dismissed or creepy because they don't like him or a ship he is in.
Why even waste the effort?
The fandom referring to Komaeda and Hinata as the gay slur:
I've been seeing it a lot more recently, I've seen people not even referring to the characters by name just by the slur. I don't care if the person posting is also LGBTQIA+ like me, we should all know better by now.
