Avatar: Tales of the Hundred Year War

"Me too..."He said rubbing the back of his head as he looked down sadly for a moment. "I miss the farm in general, the fell of it and the sound of family chatting... Hell I miss chores and dodging them. Well... Can't do much about that now." He adjusted his appearance trying to get rid of some of the out of bed look.

Era gave him a quick hug, she missed home too and that was her way of admitting it. She smoothed out her clothes, sighing. "Lets get going."

"Thanks..." He said embarrassed showing his homesickness even to her though he was truly appreciative of the hug. Growing up, next to his mothers hug, Era's was the most comforting action whether it was a scrape or a lost favored farm animal. He followed her down to the tavern.

"You want something to eat first or should we..."He went to ask when a guard caught his attention taking a drink at on of the tables. One of the two who were there when the two of them passed the information on last night.

"If it isn't the teenage snoops from last night."The guard said with a smirk." Your information was good we checked on the mayor last night. The problem is his dead."

Era blinked, "What do you mean? What happened?" She asked, crossing her arms in confusion. Just then Aquita came in, feeling the tension. She just walked over to Yao and Era.

"Are you guys ready?"

"In a minute."

"He was found dead in his house, cut up badly." The guard said casually, barely looking at the two of them." Pity we need to interrogate him. The question comes to who did him in. A witness stated seeing someone break yesterday afternoon."

"You think we did it?" Yao interjected in surprise." A tad too obvious isn't it? Why go to the trouble of coming with letter than?"

"True bad we cant discount anything. We had fire nation spies in our midst before."

"Fire nation destroyed our village and probably our brothers!" Era growled, she was still. She moved something bad could have happened. "He was gone when we even got the letter! There has to be proof!" She was shaking.

Aquita shook her head, listening. "They had to be on the road by afternoon to even get here last night. What time did you guys get here? Can't you ask the guards that where harassing everyone at the border?"

"We got here around late evening straight before we saw your people." Yao said to the guard." And those weren't guards but deserters, era send them packing. We gotta get something for that."

The guard looked at the three of them as if judging their replies for they're validity. He shrugged." Just needed your statement for the record. You are free to go but consider yourself of interest to the earth kingdom army. So tread little." He stood up and paid for his drink."Despite that enjoy your trip in the Earth Kingdom you won't be able to leave for a while."He walked off.

Aquita made a face, "What does he mean, we can't leave? I need to get up North." She said.

Era was trying to calm down. "One of these days I'm going to get in a situation where I will hurt someone." She mumbled, she stood back up. "Can we go, Yao? Please." She needed to get on the road, she still didn't have good control.

"I guess he we wont be allowed to leave the kingdom until the have the matter investigated or the war has taken a serious turn." Yao replied to Aquita unsure of the guards meaning either."I guess we can figure out which while we travel to the city."He nooded at Era."Yeah, its about time we did. You girls sure you have everything?"

(I got internet now.)

Era nodded, walking to the ostrich horses. Aquita followed, petting her water ox (like a water buffalo) before getting on.

"Interesting mount."He commented playfully to Aquita seeing the ox ans smirking."You think the can keep up with our ostriches. Could but that to the test."

Nearby a soldier watched the trio leave, his face scared with the burns from what appeared to be from battles from the fire nation.

"It's no flying bison but they do go fast," Aquita said as her ox made a noise in agreement. His two tails, that resemble flying bison tails, flapped once. "His name is Grane."

Era got on the ostrich horse and rose a brow. She never seen an ox. "He reminds me of our bulls back home." She looked around, feeling watched. "We better go," she sighed.

"I call mine, Birdie... Mostly because i only considered now to call her something." He said jokingly before starting to move towards the towns limits. He looked at era with a familiar sly look before looking at Aquita. "Time for a tradition between Era and I... Last one to the city limits, has camp making duties. Hi ho, Birdie away!" He said before immediately setting off at high speed.

"That's not fair," Era growled, taking off. "I have to do it anyways." She pulled the birds to slow down. Her head was getting dizzy. She went to fast... Oh, wait, she didn't eat today or last night. "Lets not tire them out, Yao!"

Aquita shook her head, "Don't say that again, Yao." She caught up to Era before she looked around. Was someone watching them?

"Yeah Birdie isn't into the race this time. Sorry girls. " He said feeling guilty as he slowed down his ostrich down and stroked its neck. They continued slowly down the path, there were a few people using the path apart from soldiers and the chatter from sounded grim. "Some things in the front arent changing, i wonder if will reach the city before the fire nation does."

The scared soldier followed the group a good distance behind, using the tracks left behind by the ox. Water oxes are almost unheard of this far into the empire, the tracks werent hard to single them out to others.

Era shrugged, "Mr. Hopeful, what happened to being hopeful?" Era asked as she followed behind him. "I think we should have purchased a map."

Grave stopped, Water Oxes had great hearing. Aquita looked back, someone was following them, she just couldn't see. "Hey, Era? Go up." Era rose a brow but gave her reins to Yao and pulled herself into a tree.

"Eh, cant i have my moments of pessimism once in a while? Dont worry its going to hopefully eventually...."He said though his tone indicated some doubt in what he is saying. He was confused at first to why Era was climbing up the tree. "Hey...Whats up?" Careful Era!"

The soldier continue to walk one keeping his head low, as if he was any other refugee using the roods.

"Always, just keep going." Era said with a smile as she waited for the soldier to come where they once was. That is when she jumped down. "Why are you following us?"

Aquita kept going with Yao until they where far enough off but could still be there if Era yelled. "Someone was following us."

Yao nodded not saying an other word as he climbed the tree. As the soldier approached he moved to a nearby branch so he was in jumping distants, able to tackle the soldier if he caused any trouble. "He looks a bit young to be a soldier." he commented in a whisper to Aquita.

The soldier frowned as he saw the girl step infront of him." Don't flatter yourself, just passing through. This a is a public road you know." He said shaking his head and walking on being her no mind.

Era kicked her foot, putting up a rock wall in front of him. "We watched you follow us, bud, so try again." She crossed her arms. "Your too young to be soldier so what gives?" He looked their age. She held out her hand for a friendly approach, "I'm Era. Up ahead is my comrades."

Aquita nodded, "I don't think he is. Does he seem to be trying to hurt her?" She asked.

The soldier looked at Era seemingly unreadable."You wall need work, a novice fire bender can break through it in a second." He said he then sighed as if annoyed by this block, he put his hand on his side in way that pushed aside his cloak revealing a sai."We are going the same just was a little curious about the traitor catchers and vigilantes."

Era rolled her eyes, letting the wall go down. "Vigilantes?" She shook her head, "My friend and I were going this way when we noticed a Fire Nation Hawk. Our brothers are at the front lines, we were just trying to protect them and the other soldiers." Era crossed her arms back over. "Could have asked, though, if my wall is as "weak" as you say then only the waterbender could probably hurt you." She reminded herself of her blade and Yao's weapon. "Possibly."

(Not sure why i got this guy to follow the group. Regret it abit now. :/ )

"The waterbender up on a tree you mean. Propably that non bender above you. You migh have seen me but you missed others. "The soldier said shrugging." You action got the attention of Di lee, the mayor was more then he seemed . You may just there attention, nothing more but might take action if you intefeer further. May i pass now."

Era shook her head, "I know where they where." She rose a brow when he brought up the Di Lee. "We didn't kill that man." She didn't like people thinking they hurt somebody. She made a gruff noise and passed him to get back to the animals.

Yao was suprised to hear the mention of the Di lee and feared Era reaction to the man causing trouble for herself." Stop chin wagging with the agent and let him leave."He muttered.

"If you can prove it will certainly make my life a little easier."The soldier said." For now, we go by what things seem. You are the last to see of him before his death and you admit in being in his home, these are the only facts that are available."
