Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

"Oh, that's fine," Jack shrugged, "I can knock our hut together and get something for the stego up before too long, you guys have fun." He smiled at Vera as Anna hopped on one of the other raptors, she couldn't shoot from the back of a pteranodon. He looked at Vera and smiled, "You wanna borrow Nike? She's pretty durable." The thyla might be able to face-tank the stego.

Vera smiled, "No, I'm sure they can handle it. I'll help you out. What needs done. What supplies do you need?"

Roan, on the other hand, began shooting at the stego as he came closer. With the stego beginning to chase him, he could easily dodge it as they shot the thing.

"Well," Jack looked at the area on the cliff they had to work with, "If you can make a run down to the barge and grab some pillars and ceilings, that'd be great."

With both Anna and Roan circling the stego on their raptors, shooting it, the thing was basically kept spinning in place because of the circles they were running around it, until it did was most creatures did at high torpor and it ran, forcing them to chase it in turn to knock it out. At leat there were no stegos very close by, or herd agression would be a problem.

"I didn't think you coould drug a robot," Anna chucled as the thing fell over.

"Suppose I was right," Roan laughed, "Its pretty much the same as a normal stego."

Vera nodded and hopped onto Nike, making her way to the barge and grabbing the supplies Jack needed.

"I wanna say it doesn't make any sense," Anna shook her head as she put narcotics and some berries into the thing's inventory, "It's a machine, can we drug a supply drop?"

When Vera got back to the cliff with Jack, he was already finished with their hut. It definitely wasn't as pretty as he'd like it to be, but it was warm and safe, with an overhang for Vera's raptor and Nike to spend the night under. "It's not pretty, but," Jack shrugged, "It's cozy." He smiled as he started working on a bigger shelter for the stego. He used thatch for the roof of the temporary structure, but wood for the walls and floor, saving materials where he could in such a way that he wouldn't destroy the house by sneezing.

"I dont think it makes sense either ,but I wont argue." He chuckled, "Tame a suppy drop?"

"Looks good for just being thrown together." Vera commented, "I know you'll make it better later, though."

"Free supplies!", Anna laughed, then paused, "Wait..." She seemed to be genuinely considering that possibility.

Jack smiled as he put the final ceiling into place. "Ideally, I'd like to build our home on a boat, make it mobile so we can travel and take home with us."

"I dont think they're entities to be tame, Anna." Roan chuckled, "Besides its already free."

"Its an idea. Though I get this feeling like... there's something lurking. The water can't be that safe.. can it?" Vera asked

"I don't know," Anna shrugged, "Just feed the robot." She turned and sat down on a piece of driftwood, embarrassed over the whole conversation.

"I dunno," Jack shrugged, "Maybe, but if we stay close to the shore most of the time it's shouldn't be a problem." He thought she meant megalodons, and she was right those were dangerous, but they couldn't handle shallow water.

"I mean... they don't really move.. and we can access their inventories without taming them.. " He commented, "I mean, maybe they can be tamed.. but if they creatures... why would we be able to access their inventories. And they disappear when you take everything... would that mean they're dead?"

"Yea.. maybe," She agreed.

"I don't know," Anna shrugged, "It was just an idea."

--------

"I don't know," Jack shrugged, "But I do know that we're going to need a boat anyway, to get up north for argies. So might as well make one comfortable to live on." He smiled at her and put down a campfire and cookpot on their side of the cliff. "But, we're safe for now, and that's not a project for right now."

"I mean taking it into perspective," Roan said, "If it were a creature, what would it even do?"

Vera smiled, "You better it warm to go up north then. Its freezing there. "

"I don't know!" Clearly Anna hadn't thought it all the way through, "It was just an idea, Roan, god!" She threw up her hands, "I don't know this stuff, I'm making it up as I go along!"

"Oh, you know it," Jack smiled, "We've still got pelts to harvest." Making everyone fur armor would be the hard part, but a warm shelter would be somewhat easier. He sat down around the fire and put some meat from Nike's inventory on to cook dinner, "Are you hungry?"

"We all are," He replied, looking up at her. She was kind of cute when she was mad, "I'm just feeding the idea. What if it is possible? We haven't tried it. You may have had a life changing idea. So why not talk about it?"

"A little," Vera nodded, " crazy how we got all this done so fast. Its only been a few hours since we got up."

"I don't know! We don't know enough!", Anna shook her head, "I just know they're mechanical, this thing's mechanical," she gestured to the tek stego, "And apparently it can be tamed! Taming stuff's your thing, maybe you can figure it out!"

Jack chuckled, "Well, we crafted the structures in advance and loaded them onto the barge. Makes building a whole lot quicker."

"Maybe you can help, " He said with a shrug, "You're smart. "

"Yea but still, " Vera giggled.

Anna shook her head, "Forget it," she got up from her log and headed back up to her hut as the Tek stego started to stir, waking up upon being tamed.

Jack smiled and pulled some meat onto a plate, "Well," he winked at her, "That frees up time to cuddle with my favorite kitty." Nike looked up, "Not you, Nike."

Roan stood, following after her, the stego following him, "Anna, stop!"

Vera giggled, "Sounds like a plan to me."

Anna stopped, turning around and looking angry, "What?!"

Jack smiled and sat close to Vera as they ate, "Good thing we're safe here, then."

"Don't you yell at me!" Roan said as he caught up, "Dont you take this out on me. I was only thinking about how you could be right. That is not something for you to go an get mad about."

Vera smiled as she ate, "Yea. It'll be nice. And maybe we can have a baby.. though.. maybe we should wait. Just in case something happens."

"Don't yell at you? Don't lecture me! I offered an idea, and you just sat there and lectured me about 'Why would we need that?', 'What would we do with it?', 'How would we even do that?' I gave up because I realized it was stupid, I said it was stupid, and you keep pressing!" Before, Roan turning dominant when agitated, it had caught Anna by surprise and she submitted because, well, he was right, and he wasn't what made her angry. Here, he was. "You don't get to yell at me for getting angry when you kept kicking a dead horse!"

Jack winced at the mention of a baby, "About that..." He looked around, "I don't think we should try for a baby," he gestured between them, "I mean, we were only together a few days, we were barely settled." He shook his head, "I know it sucks that we lost it, but... that may not have been entirely a bad thing..." He leaned away from her as he said that, like he expected to be hit for the, admittedly horrible statement that it might have been a good thing Vera experienced pregnancy loss.

"I wasnt lecturing you," he replied, "I was feeding the ideas. They were just that ideas. I wasnt being an ass, you just took it the wrong way. But whatever, thats fine. Next time I wont even bother. Dont expect me to say a damn thing."

He huffed, walking away, "And keep the damn stego!"

Vera nodded, not really looking at him, "Not to mention, if something happens to us, who will care for it?"

Anna just stood there for a moment. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but that wasn't it. "I think I just got dumped." She looked at the robot stego, "And left with the kids."

Jack didn't have an answer to that. Roan and Anna, maybe, but if something happened to him and Vera, it probably also happened to those two. "Why don't we take it slow?", Jack offered, "Let's wait until we're settled for a while before we try again?"

The stego grunted and nosed her arm, as if trying to offer some sort of sympathy.

Roan on the other hand stormed as far away as he could. He found himself on the beach, away from the others. He was seething, looking around before finding his target. A rock that he hurled into the sea with a yell, "WHY DO I ALWAYS GET THE SHIT END OF THE FUCKING STICK?!"

He took a deep breath before collapsing on the sand, "damn it... so much for having anything nice... I'm such a failure..."

Vera nodded, looking at him, "That sounds like a good idea."

Anna sighed, "Let's just get a saddle on you and go to bed," she led the stego back up to the cliff and started work on making a stego saddle. It looked weird, leather and wood on the back of a machine, but she didn't think there was a Tek variation of the saddle for the Tek dino. It was only after she set the thing to wander and told it to go over to where Jack had build a shelter on his side for it that what just happened set in.

"Ah, shit." She might have just driven away someone she cared about. "Dammit, Anna! What's wrong with you?!" Good thing she was on the other side of the bowl from Jack and Vera, so they couldn't hear her yelling at herself, and she only looked like a lunatic when she kicked the anvil stand and almost broke her foot, hobbling inside to sit on the bed and further insult herself for being an idiot today.

----------------

"I'm sorry, I'm just... I don't want you to be angry at me," Jack shook his head, "I want to build a perfectly safe place for our child, but I don't think we can build it right now."
