Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

"I don't know, yet," Jack shrugged, "I haven't made one yet. It takes a lot of metal and cementing paste that I haven't had access to in a while." He had only just had access again to anything he could have used for that purpose, and none of the materials. "but those trees are massive, I'm pretty sure I can put one high enough off the ground that a giga couldn't reach it."

"Well," Anna made a so-so gesture with her hand, "That's still pretty dicey, what about while thylas?"

"Well," Roan sounded. "Thats another point too, th as t thing almost killed you, you said."

"Maybe we can se up a base there later then?" Vera suggested, "It would give us time to get the resources for the base. And the dinos needed to get in and out. As well as creatures to defend ourselves."

"Yeah," Anna nodded, "If we set up on Herbivore Island, we'll be able to set up shop in total safety until we've got the resources and the dinos to build something we can defend closer to resources."

"We'll need to use the rafts to get there," Jack pointed out, "We don't have four fliers that can carry us and our current tames over there. Four humans, three raptors, a thylacoleo, and meatloaf. And that was only what they currently had.

"We can do that," Anna nodded.

"We do have those rafts still in the water, " Roan pointed out, "Think they'd carry our tames?"

"We'd probably have to make more to carry everything." Vera pointed out.

Jack looked at the rafts, "i've been thinking, I wonder if we could build on them, make a barge," he offered, "If we can build on them, we'll be able to make a structure that can hold all of us, some storage, and some animals." And that would also probably help with the available weight, since they'd be adding more buoyant materials if they built with wood. "I'll give it a shot, later, if it doesn't work I'll start making more."

"We can try it," Roan agreed, "Like a floating base."

"Thats a great idea," Vera said, "We could carry everything across."

"Mm-hmm," Jack nodded and smiled, "And if it works," he put an arm around Vera's shoulders, "I'll know I can build a house on one. Be able to get away from land predators by sailing away."

"That could work," Anna nodded, "If it works, anyway. Do we have a plan?"

"Do we have an agreement?" Roan asked, "Go to the herbivore island? If so we should start with the raft then head to the island and set up camp there."

"Sounds like a plan," Jack nodded. "I'll get to work on the rafts if you guys will work on materials."

"Works for me," Anna nodded, "What do you need?"

"Foundations and ceilings, I think, maybe pillars."

"We'll make it happen."

"Sounds good." Vera agreed. After a few hours, they had a decent raft and a lot of resources stored on board. In fact they were even ready to get the animals on board too.

Jack was pretty happy with their creation. They'd done some experimenting to find the range of what could be attached and how many structures could be attached to the wooden rafts, and he was pretty sure he could build a nice little home on one. The resulting transport barge was long and a bit wide, pretty unwieldy, but the foundations were sunken so he could reach the rudder without putting a hole in the floor. There was even a covered area over the rudder where they could stay to rest if it rained while they traveled.

"I think we've done a cool thing," Jack decided, looking at the raft, before looking at Vera, "What do you think? Think I can build a nice house on one of these?" He had an idea already.

"Hey, move your cat," Anna called as she landed Beaky on top of the covered area.

Vera giggled, moving two of the raptors, "I think its possible. Either way I'm sure you would figure out how."

"Just about, yea," He answered and he led his raptor and Meatloaf onto the raft, "We are sure it'll hold us all right?"

"Absolutely," Jack nodded, "It hasn't sunk yet." Once everyone was on, he took a spot at the rudder and started the raft moving. "Please keeps your arms and legs inside the ride at all times," he joked as they got out of the fort's walls and into the ocean. He stuck relatively close to shore, that way if they did sink they wouldn't lose everything or be stranded in the middle of the ocean. The raft did seem to be completely fine with the weight, if a bit slow. But it was still much faster than walking the beaches with their dinos and trying to swim across.

"Kind of relaxing," Roan commented as he looked out on the water. He hummed, "Its a nice change."

"Yea, it kind of is." Vera agreed.

Anna stuck her hand down into the water to feel it moving past as the boat did. "This is cool!"

"Hey, arms and legs," Jack barked, then smiled, "I'm kidding, just don't fall in." Anna frowned and sat down on the edge to watch the fish.

Roan sat beside Anna, watching the fish a well, "we should to this more often."

"Its like.. as long as we're on the raft we are safe from predators. " Vera hummed.

"Just be careful," Anna pointed to the wrappings on her leg, "There's sharks and rays in the deep water."

"As long as we hug the shallow water we should be fine," Jack shrugged, "Is that the island?"

Anna looked and spotted a familiar cove, "Yep." She stood up and climbed up to Beaky, "Welcome to Herbivore Island!"

"Nice and cozy by the looks of it," Roan commented, "Nice."

"And we're sure its safe?" Vera asked.

"Of course," Anna smiled, "No carnivores on this island that we don't bring with us." She looked back at the raptors and Nike, "I think we'll be fine. We can probably handle everything but the brontos."

"I can already see a mighty castle," Jack grinned as they pulled into the shallow cove, right up to the beach.

"Well, it's more of a shack, but if you want to call it- oh you mean what you'll build," Anna chuckled, "Something wrong with you, Jack."

Vera giggled, "Of course you see a castle. Youre so ambitious."

"I mean, we could do it," Roan chuckled, "It might take a bit but its possible. "

"He's got the right idea," Jack smiled, "We'll build another shack for the night and a cover for the animals, we'll start building a house tomorrow." About the only hard part would be dealing with the herbivores that might get involved in their construction... but these were herbivores. "Hey, Roan, we could do with a berry collecting dino."

Roan grinned, "Name it. I have plenty of narcotics. Vera found so much rotten meat when we got to the old base."

"We never did see if an anky was a good miner," Jack smiled as he got onto Nike's back.

"They're good for keratin," Anna smiled, "Give it a shot." She flew Beaky up to her hut to do another check on what resources they had here.
