Fantasy A Time of Kings

(Oh, no worries about that @Sexy McGee . Like I said in my first post, if you decide to go off on your own I'll DM the characters around you.)

Robin wants to, dearly, but she cannot trust him as much as she tries. She doesn't and never wishes to understand how the black magic that returned him to life works, and such unclean sorcery can never sit properly with her. She gives a sharp exhale. "I'll not take you, if you think of me so lowly. I'm not going to sit around and be lied about. You told me to leave that fight to you, and I fought against my own desire, and let you have your final wish!"

@Andraus (mostly meant it for the other people in the thread :P who hadn't posted in a while.)

(So Sexy McGee, you can either wander about, go somewhere specific [the map in the overview tab helps] or talk to me about a personal story you'd like Mako to have. Of course, he can always just invite himself to the Party. I'm still debating on whether or not to push the plot along without @XxLuluxX . I'll probably push it along tomorrow either way. )

@Foxgirl Jay K. Also, epic reveal of a later enemy! )

"You say that again, but I know not where you heard that from. When I saw that the Cannon's were not going to slow down their advance much, I told the Cleric, Riordan Maxwell, to tell you, and the group with you, to reinforce the main gate. Had we managed to keep the fight outside, Zaterra may have had a fighting chance! "Yaro said, indignantly. He knew specifically that he gave those instructions to Riordan, as well as a list of other things for the defenses. There was just one problem....

Riordan told Robin that the city was lost, and that she was to take the remaining survivors and evacuate.

"I've had enough of your lying!" Robin says with a growl, turning head away from Yaro. Much truly did change. Not at all the same person. Robin thinks, with a scowl. This will not work, I'll not travel with him again, no matter what happened before! Damn it all, if I bring myself low to travel with a liar! She looks out of the window, by nature of her looking away. The noise of the tavern had previously drowned it out, but now noticing it...

(Negative. She has quite literally, jumped out the window to go fight people. It's in my last paragraph.)

(Yay! Mako loves to fight :3)

Mako sees a woman wearing red hood and white (?) robes fighting multiple (?) people. Mako runs into the skirmish and draws his sword just in case. Fang runs beside the Half-Orc as he growls and barks. Mako assumes the woman is fighting for a good reason, but doesn't attack yet. "Oi! What are you fighting for?!" @Foxgirl Jay

(Please read the entire post. It's got all the info there, except for the fact that there's two cloaked assailants left.)

(The fight is currently going on between the tavern and the blacksmith,

Kirk executes an opponent, taking his blade to their leg, dropping the enemy to their knees, then cutting it's throat. Efficiently, clinical. Clearly this middle-aged kindly human has been fighting other men, for a major part of his life. He turns to shout at the half-orc "We're fighting to not fuckin' die over here! Caed Nua's getting invaded!" His tone, impolite and rushed. The squad of fifteen soldiers are approaching now.

With a kick, and a sweeping slash maneuver, Robin finishes the last of Kirk and her enemies. For now. She looks back at the half-orc and his companion wolf. "You, if that animal can take orders, send it to the keep! We need to wake the garrison!" She commands.

A nameless patron, a mage by his robes, comes hurrying out of the tavern. "I've prepared a spell!" He shouts, waving his hands. An ice-wall is erected between the Alchemy house, the blacksmith and the larder.

A minute or so spared for the heroes. The squad of soldiers was approaching cautiously, maintaining their formation. They'll have to take the long away to get around the ice walls.

Yaro would run next to Robin and Kirk, his blade soaked in blood "I am telling you the truth Robin. I told Riordan to reinforce the gate.....Even if you don't believe me, know this: Why would I lie to you, of all people?" He asked, turning to face her, as he cleaned off the blade with his hand. "Mr. Kirk, is it? You and Robin need to head into the keep, and alert the people, and get defenses on these walls! I'll do what I can to hold them back, but even I have my limits......As long as I still breath, I will not let Caed Nua will not become another Zaterra! "Yaro said, before looking towards the Ice wall. Using a small explosion, he propelled himself upward, over the wall.

He would proceed to sheath his sword, and remove his hood, revealing the armor he forged, in the likeness of the armor of the Zaterran guard. He would then hold up the gauntlet he forged, over his right arm. "with blood and rage of crimson red ripped from a corpse so freshly dead together with my hellish hate, I'll burn you all, that is your fate!" Yaro chanted, summoning a large fireball in his hand. Raising it over his head, he would cast it down towards the 15, aiming to burn them with his magic flames.

Mako nods and looks at the wolf "Fang, I need you to do something," the she-wolf wags her tail in excitement "Get to the keep, wake up the soldiers." Fang runs to the largest building in the town. Mako draws his greatsword and charges into the skirmish, trying to kill as many of the hostiles as possible. "The name's Mako!" he glanced at the mage lady. @Foxgirl Jay

(Okay, we REAAAAAALLLLLLLY need to work on reading. There is no female mage. Robin has not displayed any magical ability yet.

A nameless patron, a mage by his robes
.
Trying to tell Robin and Kirk to go alert the keep after they'd told Mako/ Fang to get it done is... silly.)

(As well, be ready for difficult fights. Most of the time, it won't simply be steamrolling your opponent.)

In a conservative motion and a prepared casting, a mage traveling with the retinue taps it's staff down on the grass a few times. A nearly imperceptible motion. A gout of water rains down upon Yaro, soaking him to the skin, and dousing the fire ball. Fire, the most common castings of novice and inexperienced mages. Any proper Mage worth their salt would have prepared a counter-spell. And Yaro's position left him oh so vulnerable to the water spell. Atop the bone-chilling ice wall, the water begins to freeze on Yaro, starting at his feet. The freeze wouldn't happen quickly though, it'd take a long while of standing still for Yaro to get stuck.

The mage steps out of formation. It can now serve it's duty, to tie up an opponent mage.

latest

A shimmering glow of faint purple surrounds him. A spell-shield. He stands on the other side of the ice wall from the party. "Surrender this duel. Your inexperience has already lost you this battle." The mage says, a faint sigh to his voice as he speaks. He believes he speaks not with arrogance, but assured fact in superiority.

@Sexy McGee

Robin reacts quickly to the half-orc's charge. "W-wait, we shouldn't be so aggressive!" She calls, trying to get him to stop. She follows to keep up, and perhaps help the half-orc out of some trouble. And trouble, Mako would find. The formation of warriors is five wide, and three deep. The back line missing one person, the mage who'd stepped out. The front line is armed with shields and swords, and ready to defend from the lone charging half-orc. Middle line, spear wielders, ready to support the shield-bearers. The back line is another line of sword and board warriors.

Kirk had followed along to help out as well. People in the tavern are starting to emerge, but they're only armed with knives, or clubs made from broken chairs and tables, and clad in their plain clothes. They tried to make themselves as ready for a fight as they could.

Yaro stood there, as the water began to freeze. "I draw my power not from a magic talisman....nor did I read this from any spell-book.....I draw my magic from my emotions, my will to live, and my knowledge of dying.....You cannot kill something that has already been dead, Mage. "Yaro said, though he inwardly did not know if he could die again or not. He certainly wasn't going to give it a try. Dying once was enough!

Yaro would dig deep inside of himself, and force himself to remember: The loss of his family, the betrayal of his friends, and the Tyranny of Hel's point. His body would begin to glow a bright red, as he then let out an explosion of fire, turning the water on him to steam, and melting the ice around him. He would quickly get off the wall, before it could be melted by the flames around his body. "I am a Zaterran, my magic draws strength from the rage I hold in my heart, and my reason for living is to see the corrupt like you burned by my flames! You shall know the power of hell-fire.....for my soul was forged in it! "Yaro said, drawing his blade. Magic weapons from the Zaterran's were highly prized, and Yaro took great pride in burning coal: As the fire around him burned, the flame in his sword would glow only brighter.

(@Foxgirl Jay sorry, I wrote that post in a rush when I was cleaning)

Finally having mustered up the courage, Jonathan darts upstairs with his crossbow and opens one of the upstairs tavern windows. He loads his weapon and lays the crossbow flat on the window while leaning on the sill. His vision is obstructed, but could maybe get a clear shot of the warrior formation. If only he aimed in the right place and shot at just the right time he might make a difference. He lines up his shot, and in all the chaos and tavernfolk gathering outdoors he fires a bolt at the squad only to quickly hide again to reload for another.

He had no idea whether the shot had hit, or even would. But crossbow bolts were known to penetrate even plate armor with some ease. His crossbow wasn't the heaviest, built for penetrating leather, mail and gambeson most of all. But he'd have to trust his halfling luck here, and otherwise it would at least be a distraction for the actual warriors to step in and exploit the chaos of projectiles flying around.

(Don't worry about posting fast, or posting often. Read over what you're about to send a few times before you do it, and make sure you ready through everyone's post once or twice, completely.)

The quarrel sticks itself deep in to an enemy soldier's shoulder. He staggers back with a gasp while shouting out "Sniper!" for he didn't know where the attack came from. It pierced his shoulder right to the bolt's feathers. Helpful hands pull the man back, and a soldier from the back line replaces him in the formation.

While Yaro was busy monologue, the opponent mage was casting. Multiple spells, in fact. Fire retardant, layered atop of the spell-shield. A wild gust of wind, meant to knock him down. That's the plan at least. A third spell. A bead of brilliant light, very clearly a healing spell. But to a creature of undeath like Yaro, the healing magic would cause searing, burning holy pain within. The mage is backing up, always trying to stay away from the sword-wielder.

@Andraus

As the flames were already swirling around his body, Yaro was healing as the attack struck him with full force. However, knew that soon he'd take more damage than he could heal so he had to act fast. He started walking over towards the solider's, his sword drawn. "For Zaterra! "Yaro said, as he ran forward, striking one of the soldiers through the stomach with his blade. However, he would not put the man down, as he held him around his neck, to using him as a meat shield. He then held out his gauntlet hand, casting a lightning spell towards the mage, to try and damage his shield.

(Positive energy [healing spells] cannot 'heal' the undead, it harms them. Negative Energy is direct, harmful magic, but it heals the undead. I should have clarified that, that bit's on me. As well, no soldiers have died. I really need everybody to properly read. :/ This is getting frustrating. I should not have to correct just about every post.)

(Right, yes. You could be correct... but the corpses are on the other side of the ice wall, just in front of the tavern. So you could send the zombies at the soldier formation, but they couldn't get past to fight the opponent mage. And plus, didn't Yaro jump off the wall, putting it between him and the Party (Robin Kirk Mako) to go fight the mage?)

(Kirk is a human warrior, an NPC introduced on the first page of the RP. Robin, human adventurer, female. My personal character. Taking a short break from this, to think about some stuff for the story going ahead, and the immediate battle. Probably a day or so break.)

Jonathan could just feel the pressure as he was loading the second bolt. With sweaty hands and heavy breathing he pulled back the crossbow's heavy string and loaded it with yet another bolt. He still had a quiver full of them, so that wouldn't be a problem. What was threatening him more was that he'd signal his position and the soldiers would get to him... That'd be bad... VERY bad. Might aswell start pleading for his life when that happens. With another bolt loaded, he hangs his weapon out of the window, takes a short time to aim for the group of soldiers and fires off another crossbow shot, not hesitating for a moment to duck back down into cover. His mind was racing with thoughts... Mostly bad ones... But he'd get through he assured himself. All would be fine, and this would be over quickly if he just kept firing from the window.

@Foxgirl Jay

Another bolt shot, and even though they were aware of the sniper, they know not where it came from. The quiet 'clunk' of the crossbow takes another soldier in the breastplate. Piercing in less, but still a wound.

Yaro had dropped his sword. A horrible mistake when one is so close to a soldier formation. Sure he may have slipped through the shield of one soldier, and dealt him a wound... but as soon as that happened, soldiers near to their comrade attacked. Precise stabs, several at once from sword and spear alike strike Yaro's unshielded, exposed body. The blades bite in to flesh, some are halted, very minorly by the leather armor to only cause small knicks... but a pair of swords attack his entirely unarmored waist and side of his abdomen.

The spellshield bursts, and the lightning strike pierces through. The mage drops back, his hair sent straight by stactic, and his body with smoking burn marks. But still alive. Surely a felling blow, had the spellshield not robbed so much power from it... but still, the mage is certainly out of this fight.

But Yaro's taken many wounds, and a couple deep ones at that. "You damned fool of a boy!" Kirk growls, as he rushes up. He breaks Yaro's hold on the soldier, kicks Yaro back, and with a sweep of his shield, protects the both of them from the second volley of sword and spear attacks. Kirk can't keep all of them back of course, and takes a garish wound to his cheek. Survivable, but the veteran soldier will be having another scar added to him.

Robin is forced to run up as well, to protect Yaro and help Kirk retreat from the formation with him. Parrying and knocking away coordinated attacks, a difficult task.

(I'm just going to assume Fang's sucessfully awoken the garrison.)

The keep's door swings wide, and out comes charging the garrison forces, a twenty strong group of soldiers, ready to do battle.

"The plan's failed..." the mage mutters. He disappears in to a puff of smoke, leaving the soldiers. The battle devolves in to a melee, the formation breaking.

(A lone warrior should not disarm himself, and put himself in so close to an enemy formation. Sorry. Yaro will live at least. :/ There's a warning in the character creation, in fact, it's the first thing. But now, there is no solid block of soldiers to fight, rather individual ones. )
