Fantasy A Time of Kings

Nocturne could almost laugh at the elven girl, thinking she could distract the humongous demon herself. But this was not the time for it, he needed to focus on the demon, it was busy pacing and trying to implore him on returning to The Pit. It was fine with him though, the more the beast wasted time talking the more time Nocturne had to come up with a plan. But to his horror the priestess used magic against the demon, he watched as the sharp spikes of ice impaled themselves into the demon but Nocturne knew it's not going to halt it. Although ice magic is powerful against this demon, he's much to powerful for the ice to hinder him. So even though the ice hurt him, the monster just broke it and aimed a powerful swing towards Ava. Cursing, Nocturne turned and ran towards the priestess then pushed her out of the way of the lethal attack. As the sword came down to deal a lethal blow, Nocturne rolled out of the way just in time for the sword to miss, the demon being so big made him sluggish and much more slower than the agile Nocturne. But he couldn't be dodging attacks forever, and with the demon now thinking Ava was a threat that only enforced his resolve to get them all out of there before an arm was chopped off.

So before the demon could try another attack towards them, Nocturne grabbed Ava and the other elf girl, holding them close to his body as he commanded some of the shadows to engulf them in darkness. Tendrils of darkness obeyed and swarmed around them until they were completely engulfed, no part of their bodies were visible at all within the shadows. Then moments afterwards the shadows dissolved and returned to their normal places in the forest, the spot where the trio had been was empty now and no trace of them could be seen.

Nocturne used a dangerous transportation skill, he used his powers over the shadows to engulf himself in them and then travel throughout the darkness until he popped out of shadows at his destination. Unfortunately this took a toll on his body and would tire him quickly afterwards, he had only used this sparingly to transport himself from place to place because if he lost control of the shadows they would gladly devour and trap him there. But the transportation of not one but three people was much harder, he had to grip the two as tightly as possible or he feared he would lose them along the way. Finally after mere moments of travelling throughout the darkness they popped out of the shadow of a tree in the same forest and landed roughly on the dirt mere feet away from Robin and Yaro. The two girls were fine and lay beside Nocturne which was almost fainting from the amount of effort he exerted in transporting them here, each breath was a labor for him as he lay on his back and tried to keep a hold on his consciousness, tremendous amount of sweat pouring down his face.

As they popped out of the shadows, the horse looks up with a mouthful of grass. It had seen weirder things in this world. It simply lowers its head and begins to eat the grass. (I don't know if they eat grass or not, I'm dumb).

"You're bleeding." Ava stated, the first words out of her mouth since their magical escape. She wasted no time by catching her breath or even questioning her companion's demonic nature, instead focusing her attention on Nocturne's threatening wounds. Blood seeped from the numerous whip slashes, parts of his clothes torn from the impact, and the grass beneath them was soaked in a dark red. She brushed the hair from his eyes before removing her own cloak and rolling it up. She seemed to not care that her ghostly features were now in full view, or at least not noticing, despite the protests of the pestering spirit in her ear. "I want you to talk to me, Nocturne, but try not to move too much." she told him, stuffing her cloak under his head as a pillow. "Stay awake."

Suddenly, she reached over and grabbed the she-elf's arm, her dark eyes boring into the stranger. Her hands were as cold as a corpse, her grip stiff. "Water," Ava barked at the stranger, "Do you have water?"

@ShadowSketches @Iomana @Foxgirl Jay

Momentarily stunned silent in the face of all that had just transpired, Anaya flinched at the grip on her arm, barely having time to process the odd markings on the other's face before she nodded stiffly. "Y-yes," the elf stammered quietly, her voice gaining some of its strength back as she continued. "Yes, I do, right here." Reaching into her pack, the girl quickly pulled out a flask of water and handed it to the stranger. Anaya had many questions but, just now seeing how serious the wounds of the male- Nocturne apparently- were, she decided it was best to hold her tongue.

Reaching into her pack again, she brought from it a roll of bandages and held them out. "Do you need bandages? Is there anything I can do to help?"

Nocturne's eye sight was blurry and he could see black spots at the edge of his vision, he underestimated how hard it would be to transport three people through the shadows. He tried to talk but it required a great deal of effort, having to take breaks and breath after every couple words "Damn...jus-....just...give wate..." He couldn't finish his last word as his tongue just felt heavy, his ribs and lungs felt like they were being forcibly pushed in and all the while the cuts just kept on bleeding. His tail was splashed beside him from exhaustion and his teeth were returning to how they normally were. His eyes slowly turning black but not their normal shade of black, instead it seemed somehow duller as he neared unconsciousness.

(@Windows98 , is this going to be a problem? I thought it was made pretty fucking clear, you do not control anything, any NPC or things such as that, unless it's directly your character, or permission is granted to do so.)

By quirk of the magic involved, the Greater Demon is thrown off Nocturne scent; for now. He rages, hacking at the ground with his sword, leaving great searing gouges in the ground. With a flourish, his sword disappears, and his body melts back to The Pit, returning home. He'll need to find the scent again, and resume his chase. A demon can be patient.

Robin puts a hand to her chin, thinking on what he's said. "Honestly, I don't know. But what I do know!" She gives him a determined look. "I don't want to hear any of that nonsense of you maybe dying again or the spell on working or any pointless shit like that! We'll resurrect your body, properly with clean, pure magics, and everything can go back to the ways they were, okay?"

"And if it helps any, you're human enough for me. And uh, by the way. I like it more when ya' keep the hood and mask off." She says, turning away and getting back to heading for their camp. But as fate would have it, Robin and Yaro walk upon another party. The elf and the assassin-looking fellow; the latter looking wounded and about to pass out. And another elf woman. Robin approaches them slowly, but without hesitation greets them. "Ho there, fellow travelers!" Announcing her arrival with a cheerful call, hands on her hips. "What's going on here, anything I can help with?"

(Bleeeeh, busy busy day. Had to wake up for 4am, to drive 3 hours for a thing at 830 and 10am, then and get home at like 3pm ;3; )

Yaro would bite his lip at her response, before throwing caution to the wind. He then pulled down the hood, and put away the mask he was accustomed too. When she greeted them, he quickly moved near her ear, and whispered. "If you don't want this, I am sorry, but I think 3 years is a long enough wait. I'm not getting any younger. "He said, giving a her a quick, but meaningful kiss on the lips. He then gave her a cocky smile, before turning to face the party. "Are either of you hungry, or Injured? I can help. "He asked. He had a couple of medical kits, and knew how to treat an injury because of smithing (burning hot metals hurt like hell, broken bone prevented work, and shrapnel was a living hell.)

"Aye, we'll be needing bandages unless a mixture doesn't help," the priestess replied to the she-elf, "These cuts are deep, and I'd prefer not to rely on healing spells." Ava dribbled the water into Nocturne's mouth, parting his lips for him and taking great care not to drown the man. Once satisfied that he's had enough for the time being, she handed the canteen back to the elf and got to work picking items out of her pouch... However, she was halted by the sound of unfamiliar voices.

Suddenly, the girl was all too self-aware of herself. Her hands froze at the realization that she was very visible, and though the newcomers had not yet seen her face she could feel her courage fading; she couldn't hide behind her cloak. Reluctantly, Ava turned towards the man and woman who had stumbled upon the trio. They seemed friendly and willing to help, and turning them away may be dire...

It took her a few moments to find her voice, but once she could she replied meekly, "My companion--this man here--he has many cuts that must be tended. If you could help undress him...? Or perhaps you have some medicine to help with the pain?"

(Feel free to murder the elf. He's fighting back, but he's not a protected character)
, as in, the mage you were currently fighting.)

She'll have to talk more with him, later. Explain how she feels, which to her, her feelings are simple enough. But that's not to say she lost a bit of composure at the surprise kiss. She coughs, turning her attention back to the two elfs and the injured man, " Ah uhm, I've got some linen wraps and pure alcohol you can use, miss. Here." Robin fishes the proclaimed items from her bag, passing them to Ava. "Try not to use all of it, hm? What happened anyway? Got too close to a den-mothers cubs or something?" The only truly dangerous animal in the Palatinate, Black Bears, and the mothers especially. They tend to not mind the humans, as long as the humans don't get too close, or look at them the wrong way.

Yaro placed his mask back on his face, in case either of them were carrying a possible chance for infection, and knelt down by the man. Anyone skilled in magic could sense that he was not.....normal, though it would be difficult to explain how. He then placed his gauntlet on his hand, and started waving it over the man's body, whispering a basic healing spell, not to close the wounds, but to stop chances of serious blood-loss. He also held his hand over the man's head, seeing his eyes, and assuming it might be the side effect of a concussion. He wasn't skilled in healing, by any means, but working the forge taught him enough on field first-aid. He hoped his rudimentary skill could help the man."Wrap up his wounds quickly, Exposure to air could cause infection. "He said, before patting around the man's body, to see if any bones were damaged.

@Iomana @keizerin @ShadowSketches

Nocturne could hear the others talking around him but the voices sounded muffled and far away, almost as if he was listening to them from under water. Although nearing unconsciousness he was able to see the outline of a stranger over him, as he patted Nocturne's body, he tried to struggle as he did not liking having a stranger so close to him when he was so vulnerable. But he was too weak to do much and in the end just ended up laying there as he tried his best to hold on to consciousness, grabbing onto the priestess tightly with one hand as if letting go would cause him to fall into oblivion.

@keizerin @Andraus @Foxgirl Jay

And yet, despite the increasing oddity of the day, even more strangers appeared. Biting her lip against the rising sense of frustration at her complete ignorance on the situation, Anaya simply sighed, unrolling her own bandages as she began to wrap the most grievous of the wounds that she could see, feeling woefully useless as she did so. Well, seeing as the other elf girl suddenly lost whatever spark that seemed to embolden her at the appearance of this new group of people, maybe Anaya herself should answer their question. Even though she wasn't sure what manner of beast just attacked them... From what she could gather from the creature and the other girl's various reactions during the fight, that man was not normal but she couldn't be sure how much the two were willing to share with the strangers. "Yes, we were attacked but luckily managed to escape."

Momentarily raising her eyes to look towards the newest group of strangers, she asked, "Pardon me but do you happen to know where the nearest inn is?" She wasn't sure where they landed after that...little trick, and it would probably be best to get the man some proper food and a bed to rest in while he healed.

@keizerin @ShadowSketches @Foxgirl Jay @Andraus

Robin crosses her arms over her chest, with a quirk of her brow. She'd prefer more detail about what had attacked them... but if they're choosing not to share, so be it. "Closest in is back to the south-east, at Caed Nua. It's about half-a-days travel, but you two" She says, nodding in Ava and Nocturne's direction "Probably already knew that. If you think it's needed, I've got some spells of healing" And she looks to Yaro "that're better than my friends, but noy by too much." Robin's got a smile on her face. She did so enjoy poking and prodding at people. "Where are you headed anyways? Seems to be the same path as us, and there's not much to the west of here that's safe anymore."

Testing Yaro was a bad idea, for many reasons given his circumstances and condition, but for once it was good. With a rise in agitation, the effectivity of the spell increased. Though thankfully this did not last long, as his agitation quickly quieted down. He soon began pressing his hands to the mans head. "If you don't mind ma'am, I need you to clean out his wounds so I can properly seal them. If I don't soon, he may die from blood-loss. "He said to her.

You should've left that monster to die.

"Nocturne and I were on our way to Guilded Vale... and then, eventually, Hel's Gate. But we were attacked, along with the other woman, along the way..." the priestess explained, nodding her head towards the she-elf as she was mentioned. She kept her eyes down, avoiding any gazes as she handed a small jar full of a sickly green poultice to the dark-hair woman. "Please, miss, if you could apply this to his cuts? Use as much as you can, but try to spread it evenly."

How could you treat him? Help heal his wounds?

Ava looked down sadly at Nocturne as she felt his hand grab her wrist, thinking he must be in so much pain. She patted his hand reassuringly, smiling.

You saw what he is.

"A demon..." she responded quietly, almost breathlessly. It took her several moments until she realized she had spoken out loud, and quickly corrected herself for the others, "It was a demon that attacked us. I--It appeared out of nowhere. Undoubtedly a stray looking for its next meal, or..." Ava shook her head. "We escaped just in time, but my companion he--he took many of the blows."

@Foxgirl Jay @Andraus @ShadowSketches @Iomana

(I mean, actually the demon only inflicted at most, 3 medium laceration wounds to Nocturne.)

"I find it hard to believe... a stray demon?" Robin says, putting a hand on her hip and adopting an incredulous stance and expression. Like she said, she doesn't believe it. The only time she's heard of demons crossing over, was by fool mages thinking they can chain their malignancy. She'd never even dare to dabble in such dark arts, thinking it to be a pointless exercise. Proper, clean magics and her sword is all she cared for.

(Hmm sorry maybe I hadn't made it clear? The damage he's suffering from was the damage his body took transporting three people through the shadows over such a long distance, it took a massive toll on his body as he barely made it out without the darkness overcoming him and absorbing them all into oblivion)

They appeared not to be as far away as Anaya had previously feared but the distance to the nearest inn left a little more to be desired. Well, she should just focus on treating what she could at the moment. Taking the offered jar, though her nose wrinkled slightly at its content's appearance, the elf set to work, applying it just as the other girl instructed her to as she listened to the explanation she gave the newcomers. A demon, huh? She had heard of the creatures but that was her first time actually seeing one... and if that creature was a demon then that person must be...

"Yes, that creature-- that demon-- must have been a stray. I myself did not sense any dark magic and my companions were as surprised at its appearance as I was." The words flowed smoothly as she finished applying the poultice to the three jagged wounds. Anaya wasn't sure if those injuries were the only cause of his current predicament, there was no telling what that little shadow trick did to him, but it was a place to start.

@ShadowSketches @keizerin @Foxgirl Jay @Andraus

"This world is suffering from a sickness. Due to the amount of death, the madness of dark mages, and various other incidents related, the veil between the spirit world and our world is incredibly thin. It would be no small surprise if something managed to break through. Let's just hope that it didn't make a big enough tear in the veil that others can break free. "Yaro said, having intimate knowledge on the subject.
