The Ironborn taking and holding castles would be suicide, their strength is in raiding and the sea they would have to play at their strengths to have a chance. And they could always start at the North of the Westerlands with places like the Banefort and Wyndhall
They could do that, but anything worth a damn in the Westerlands is in the east, west or south of the territory. All of the northern regions are just hills and mountains that don't even have silver or gold. There just aren't any resources worth looting in the northern Westerlands and Tiber is still leaving 10,000-15,000 soldiers in the Westerlands to defend it. Like I said, they'd be better of looting the Riverlands.

You really think the main Lannister Home Guard wouldn't be at either Castamere or the Crag, knowing that the biggest threat to their home is to the Northwest now that the main forces have left?

Leave them wherever you wan't because the strength of the iron born will be mobility!

Seriously though, if you raid the Riverlands we're pretty screwed.
Im not sure what will happen. I am a bit unclear in why people will think the Iron Born will be raiding the Westerlands in the first place?

I mean I know Conn sent a small raiding party but it was pretty much irrelevant to the Iron Born army and was a sort of side thing?

Yeah, the Vale and mountain clans moving in from the east and Ironborn raiding the west. The Riverlands would instanntly be put in a state of chaos and even with the north coming down to help, they're still rather fucked.

The Riverlands has nothing of value to taken anyway.

And with northman tends to come a lot of rape and murder, this isn't going to be a good year for the Riverlords.

Anyway the plan was to let the Westerlands and the Reach fuck eachother while Siegfried picks his nose.

Mobility avails you nothing when you charge straight into the jaws of the lion.

It's more of just a warning that's it's a really strong target and there are better ones to pick from.

Fair enough, though I don't know if I would trust the man who's basing his "waiting strategy" on how fast he can clean his nostrils.

This just doesn't make sense though.

If the North is at the Neck now, they will be IN the Riverlands when the Ironborn arrive, and with the Riverlords gathered at Maidenpool, it'd still be exceptionally easy for them to crush both the Ironborn, and the Vale.

The Riverlands is considerably less screwed than people make out, Tadgh's basically here. The real dilemma is whether they focus on combating the Vale, or leave the Riverlands weaker by aiding Braedon.

Well it may have something to do with trying to build the strongest Iron Fleet in history but I felt that would be some information the Lannisters shouldn't have.

Whoops

But we're also plagued by Blackwoods traitors in our midst.

Uhhhh, Tadhg just got to Mooat Calin, hes still like another month away from getting to the Crossing. By the time the North arrives the Ironborn could have been raiding for weeks and the Vale could have been taking castles for just as long. With that happening the whole fractured squabbling Riverlands is probably going to start taking sides with people who aren't Walder or Tadhg because their lands were ravaged while those two men weren't there to help. At this point the Riverlands will be in chaos and theres still going to be around 60,000 hostile troops in the Riverlands when you put the Ironborn, Vale, and mountain clans together. Tadhg only came down with about 20,000 men, so that means the Riverlands and Northern army combined have a max of 70,000 troops to work with. and two armies on opposite sides of the region to deal with.

The Riverlands is fucked if this happens.

Don't worry about the dragon egg. Either he has one and it hatches or not, the end results apparently will be the world's largest heated salt water pool.

No Siegfried will ride the damned beast into battle by sunset!

@Veyd Sahvoz time-skipped to the Neck, check the last post; and your grossly understating just how long it would take for the Vale's banners to gather for an attack along with the North. The Vale isn't a small place, Tadhg called the banners and set off the march ahead of time - to save time - so the houses further away were forced to catch up. The Vale on the other hand still needs to actually attack, the whole "Riverlands ded" equation is completely dismissing that massive force in Maidenpool. The Riverlords aren't going to sit around and watch, are they?

Have Frey soldiers reinforce Seagard, with a token-force to hold the Twins, and have the Riverland's armies contest the Vale assault. It really is that simple. The Ironborn could easily win Seagard, but why would they bother when they're going lose a crap-load of troops? Then the Vale is going to get fucked up by the North when they arrive, regardless of whether they beat the Riverland's army decisively or not.

The Ironborn and the Blackwoods have always been such close friends, I'm sure they share many fond memories of Harrenhal.

House Tully may be oblivious to your treason, but don't think House Bracken has forgotten your crimes.

We'll deal with the traitorous Mallister-plotters!
If we get that Frey-Tully marriage Mallister will be Darwell's mother-in-law, it's always nice to have a claim before you go off conquering.
