Realistic or Modern Zombie Apocalypse

Holliday had calmed down a bit and was now singing along to "Get Rhythm." As he did so he considered all the options which he had mentioned before. None of them were great. The veterinarian office seemed like the best bet, but he had never heard of a dog getting a heart transplant. He wasn't sure they'd have immune suppressants. Maybe their would be another hospital in the region which would have the drug. Holliday took in a deep breath and sighed. "Well whatever we end up doing, it aint going to happen today. Lets sleep on it and try again tomorrow."

Holliday put a little more weight on the peddle and the truck gained some more speed. The Ohio forest was once again starting to give way into the city from which they had come. Autumn leaves blew across the road. It almost made Holliday forget about everything which had happened in the past months. Soon the great river came into sight, and one could make out the figure of the giant lumber mill. Holliday was anxious to finally get some rest.

Tammy guided holliday to the mill. As the diesel roared to the concrete parking lot they shut the motor off. It rumbled to pure silence. Tammy hopped out and gripped her weapon and pulled it out the seat. She stretched a bit. It was afternoon already and she sighed with her stretch she looked around. No corpsers followed them from her sight which was great vision according to her doctor. "This is your first time here isn't it?" She walked up to longshot her bar hand on her hip and pack hanging on one shoulder. Her clothes cleaner than the olds. She tilted her head a bit.

Her hair blew gently in the breeze. It was calm the air was fresh and the world stood still. " if you need a room mine is unmanned apart from me." She noted to longshot. Her eyes flicked over to austin then one eye then miyuki.

Miyuki looks out the window and sees the mill. "Well at least we didn't come back empty handed," she says with a small smile, trying to be a little bit positive. She was upset at the lack of pills they got but they did get a lot of items. Miyuki heard Tammy's offer and rolls her eyes and sighs, shaking her head. "Actually he told us the location," she said as she looks over at Tammy. Miyuki goes into the truck and pulls out the bag and swings the heavy bag over her shoulder and carries it inside the mill.

Holliday looked around the place. It was indeed his first time at the mill, but he knew the basic layout as he had scouted it from afar previously. Hell it had been his idea for everyone to meet there as it was tactically a good location. "Yeah, I haven't stepped foot here before but I know the basics of the outside and have stayed in similar places before so I have the feel of it. As far as the room goes I appreciate it, but I'm sure you would like your privacy and would rather not put up with someone such as myself. I can pitch a tent out here. I'm used to spending my nights alone with only a bedroll, a campfire, and the stars in the sky."

When Jennifer asked how far along she was in her pregnancy, Tiffany looked down at her belly. Her brain was still half asleep, but she snapped out of it. She finally grabbed a bottle of pain killers. She then also grabbed a Water Bottle so that Jennifer wouldn't have to get dehydrated. "7 and a half months, its a girl." She replied as she turned to give Jennifer the Pain Killers and Water Bottle. Just then, the Scavenging Party had returned.

Miyuki places the bag inside the Mill and stretches her back and arms, cracking them. "Hey, hope we didn't take too long." She says with a smile as she looks though her bag to see what she had left. "Hope we didn't miss much." She says as she sits down in a chair and count how many arrows she has left.

TAMMY immediately went back into a different room. She started to kind of do her own thing preferences she assumed. She went off to her room and opened the creaking ruined door. She threw her stuff down. Her mind raced with different thoughts she felt like they literally accomplished nothing today. At least in her eyes. She gazed out the window. It was actually a perfect condition no cracks or blood covering it. Her intentions never happened. She didn't even have the opportunity to get any weapons, food, or supplies apart from the med kit and the bag of chips.

She opened her inventory that she hid in her desk in the room. 'So baby formula is gone, I still have 2 mres, 3 water bottles,the 2 protein bars, a couple chips, trail mix about half full. Now I have a new box of the bullets.' She observed them not knowing how to fire a gun and put the in the drawer. 'Lastly the ibuprofen I grabbed from that medical kit.' She sighed there wasn't really much. That whole group needed supplies. Her especially though needed it. She found the cooking stove she had for backpacking. The propane bottle was almost empty. Thank fully it did last her around 2 weeks. She gathered the stuff from her pack and put it away in the drawer. It looked like a supply filing cabinet but for now it worked. She then proceeded to go downstairs.

She took notice to miyuki. "Hey miyuki we need food!" She said sort of blunt.

"I can't imagine being pregnant now," started Jennifer as she was handed the pain relievers and took them, "thank you so much."

Jennifer heard what sounded like a truck pulling in behind her. She turned around and was greeted by the sight of the kid's truck that saved their asses earlier. And everyone hoped out. Knowing that this mission was critical to her survival, Jennifer anxiously walled up to everyone hoping out.

"Did you get any," she asked with wide eyes and a shaky sound in her voice, worried they didn't get anything.

She skipped the "hello" for now. She was concerned about medicine, not pleasantries. Her survival is dependent on the medicine. She knows it, most of them know it. Without the medication, you might as well put a bullet in her head. She won't live unless she has something to stop her immune system from killing her donor heart. It's an unfortunate situation to be in, especially when medicine is so hard to come by.

@Mercer @Shimakage Thunder

Austin watched as the girls went on inside, stepping out of the truck he was immediately greeted with Jennifer. While he knew someone was going to have to tell her, he hadn't really expected it to be him, and so quickly. The man shook his head lightly, "We managed a few. Things got complicated, so we came back." While it was the truth, it still wasn't very fun to say. But Austin wasn't about to run off and hide from her, Jennifer could handle the truth. This wasn't a death sentence he was giving, merely a setback.

As if on cue, the man's stomach growled. Austin knew he was hungry, it'd been nearly 24 hours since he'd eaten, and that had only been part of a snack bar. "We'll come up with a new plan, figure things out. We miss any excitement?" Asking as he started moving towards her, then passing her as he moved closer to the mill.

@Mercer

Jennifer listened as Austin briefly explained to her that they were unable to get many. Jennifer was disappointed the mission wasn't a success. Of course, it wasn't their faults. In this world, things get very complicated very fast. She didn't blame them for it. She's glad they were able to get something, and get back home in one piece.

"Alright, well thank you, I'm just glad you all made it home in one piece," she said, sighing and in a depressed tone. "You bought me a couple more days to live. I'm thankful for that. It's more days to live than I would have had yesterday."

Austin walked past her, heading towards the mill. She caught up to him to fill him in with what little had happened since they left.

"We'll make a plan, I know we will. But since you were gone, nothing much happened. I shot a deer. There's meat in the back room where Tori was. Speaking of her, I believe she went out for a walk. I was asleep when this happened. But other than that, nothing really has happened. Hold on, I'll go get the meat that I got. Wait here," she said, as she walked to go get the meat.

There was a sizable amount left, from what she was able to get from the deer that wasn't too big. If she was hunting, the deer would have been a decent sized 8 pointer. Taking the bowl of food, she walked back to Austin. She knew the others were hungry too, so she didn't want one person to eat it all.

"Not the best food in the world, but it's better than no food," she said, handing him the pot so he could take some. "When the others come around, let them have a bite. I'm sure we're all hungry. So, what exactly happened out there? How did things get complicated? Oh, and who has the pills?"

Jennifer wanted to get them so she can add them to her inventory. She tried to act as if she wasn't depressed that they couldn't get more, but it was obvious she was. She had to stay positive for herself. It always helped her in the past when she had issues in her life, which hasn't been an easy one. Jennifer was, however, thankful that they were able to get some. But she needed more. She was going to wait until the next plan to decide if she is going to go with it, or if she was going to go out solo by herself. She needed them no matter what. Already, she is planning potential places to hit up and search. But she can't now. She'll most likely die if she goes out in her current state alone.

Jennifer also didn't want to make a big deal over this predicament. She didn't want to get others angry. Though she was depressed inside, she agreed with Austin. They'll just come up with a new plan and execute that. If that doesn't work, then that will be a dire time for her. She will need those pills if worse comes to worse, and she will go out and find them, with or without them. Doing that would be out of pure desperation. But it might come to that if the next plan doesn't work.

"You shot a deer?" Austin probably shouldn't have been surprised, but he was. It was like she'd read his mind on being hungry, or maybe his stomach had just been louder than he thought. It had been a while since he'd had actual fresh meat, not being much of a hunter himself in the least.

Here Jennifer was supplying everyone with what food she could, even while recovering and injured. And they hadn't even been able to get the medicine she needed to stay alive, it bugged him how the scales we're so unfavorable in that aspect. Austin took the bowl with a thankful nod, grabbing a piece he wasted no time in shoving it partially in his mouth while Jennifer proceeded to ask what had happened. Austin took a moment to chew and swallow the larger bits before he decided to speak, "The kid showed back up for starters." Austin nodded towards the truck, taking another moment to finish what he already had in his mouth. "That and Zed's, as usual. I think the uh.." The man's head turned towards the door to the mill, "...the girl has them." Momentarily forgetting her name before mumbling out, "Miyuki."

Austin plucked another bit of meat from the bowl before shoving it back towards Jennifer, "You'd better take it away from me." His tone serious though he was attempting to joke around. He also guessed she was about to pay Miyuki a visit for the meds, so Jennifer could give the girl some of the food while she was at it.

@Jennifer Shotain

Jennifer tilted her head inquisitively in response to Austin's question about her shooting a deer.

"Why do you ask that I shot a deer the way you did? I did a bit of hunting here and there before all of this, you know," she said with a slight laugh.

Austin then went on to briefly describe what transpired earlier and why things didn't go in their favor. She was bummed to hear how things went down. It wasn't even remotely as planned. It was unfortunate they couldn't get the things she needed so urgently, but she was just glad they made it home altogether. She would feel terrible if one of them, or more, died to get her the things she needed to live. Regardless of that, Austin's surprising positivtiy caught Jennifer off guard. And he seemed a bit nicer than before, even cracking a joke before he handed her back the bowl of food, though with his serious tone delivering it. She could tell it was a joke. She found this interesting. A man who's a pretty stern and doesn't really seem to like people seemed to be warming up to everyone. It was most curious to Jennifer. She had to question him about this.

"Before I give Miyuki a visit, I have to say, you seem rather, what would the adjective be," she said, pausing to ponder the correct word, "Ah, positive, pleasant, and in good spirits than I have seen you. Are you finally opening up to the idea of being with people. And furthermore, you offered to go out by yourself to go retrieve my medications. And upon getting back from an unsuccessful mission, you were positive about it and said we'll go at it again and get them. Pardon me if any of this is rude, but you come across as a very serious man, and one who doesn't like people. In fact, you try to act, to me, like you don't want to help people. However, you do. Either I have mistaken you for someone you're not, or you're actually a good man under all of this seriousness. Or you're warming up to people. Whichever answer it may be, you seem different. Generally a bit happier and positive. Have I mistaken you for someone you're not?"

She then paused and realized it sounded somewhat like she was bashing him in a way. What he did for her, and offered to do, was very kind and generous for someone he doesn't know all too well.

"Aside from that, I really do have to thank you for doing what you did. You would have gone alone for my medication. Ultimately, that's not what happened, but you offered. And then you kept things positive when the mission was failed. Positivity helped me get through many of the difficult challenges I've had to face in my life, and that being too many to count. Having an external source of it, at least for that one thing, really does help me cope with the situation at hand. What I'm trying to say here is thank you. I really do mean it and appreciate it. If I don't get those pills, then whatever I have now is the number of days I'll live, essentially. But having positivity surrounding me, or hearing it from someone, really does help. Thank you."

The girl didn't think she would get as personal with that thank you. She assumed it would be a type of, 'hey, thanks for doing that'. Instead, it got somewhat personal, and she herself hoped it would show her gratitude towards him.

@Crono

Such a simple jest, and yet he was called out on it. In good spirits? Was he coming off that way? Austin took a deep breath at the question and looked her in the eye, "Let's just say I feel bad for not coming back with more of the med's you need, like we'd planned." He didn't notice it til she'd blatantly said it, maybe it was having food in his stomach, maybe it was more of his training to comfort when he knew someone would be on a low.

Then Jennifer proceeded to read into him and everything he'd said and done since they'd met almost twenty four hours ago. There was a sting to her words even if she didn't mean it, and a truth that Austin didn't want to hear. The woman had just gone full therapist mode on him, on his decisions since the world fell apart. And to be honest, not only did it make him uncomfortable, but it pissed Austin off, that she'd pick at him and at those infinitely open wounds. The man closed his eyes as she continued, eventually giving he thanks and Austin eased off his emotions a bit.

The young girl was trying to give gratitude which Austin understood, but he felt like there was a bit of fear mixed in there. The medicine was limited, and maybe this was her coping with that...analyzing things or just talking her head off. This made her words easier to accept without shooting off at her, but only so much.

When she was finished he opened his eyes and cast her a glance, his tone a bit low and solemn, "Your welcome, and I told you I'd help get those med's and I meant it. I'm doing this because I want to, and because you can't in your condition." Austin turned so that he was half facing her, planning to walk away, but pausing mid-step. "Just because I'm not the most friendly or positive doesn't mean anything. No matter my outer showing or appearance, remember...I'm still human underneath." With that he continued his movement slowly, heading away from the entrance to the mill and towards the side. Austin had no clear destination, just that he didn't want to continue that conversation, eventually he rounded the corner of the building and towards the nearby river.

The words spoken from Austin's mouth as he left made Jennifer ponder something.

Being human.

In this world, being human was something that she herself wasn't sure what it really meant. Nowadays, people kill for fun, steal to survive. Being human was replaced with surviving. And the way Austin left showed Jennifer that even in this world, with humanity being replaced by survival, some people were still human deep down. It was rare that it was left. Even with Austin and his persona that he touts around, he still is a human underneath. Maybe Jennifer ought to have not said what she did. Maybe it was cruel. Maybe it was fast to say something about someone she hasn't known for just quite a full day yet. Whatever the case might be, what she said did have a huge impact on him, as it appeared. The only thing she could do now was let him have time to himself, to either digest what she said to him, or to let his anger cool off. And when he re

With a sigh, Jennifer picked up the pot of food. There was still a good amount left. If they were conservative with the meat, they could have enough for everyone to eat. Maybe not a full stomach, but more than they would have if she hadn't shot the deer. But since she had already ate, and she assumed the others were hungry, she went to go pass food out. First stop was Miyuki. She needed her medication. She needed to see how much was in there, and determine how many days she has left as of now, until more medication could be acquired.

"Hey, Miyuki," started Jennifer as she walked over to her, "Austin said you have my medication. Could I please have it? Oh, and here's some meat. I shot a deer while ya'll were still gone. Here, eat some. But not too much. I want to make sure everyone has a bite."

No one came over to speak with Holliday, and he didn't go to speak with anyone else. He just settled back and waited for everyone to clear the area. He listened to the conversations, meds & food seemed to be a poplar topic among the crowding to some of the distant conversations, but nothing bought his interest. Once he was by himself he slowly got back into his truck and drove it down closer to the river. He spotted a flat area that was clean and dry and parked next to it. Slowly he exited the vehicle and opened up the back. From the camper he unloaded a large green plastic bin. He pulled off the lid revealing the pieces of his tent. He carefully laid out the tarp, then spread the tend over it. Next he assembled the framework of it and then clipped it to the tend. Lastly he took out a small hatchet and nailed some stakes into the ground in order to hold the whole thing in place.

Once that chore was done, Holliday scavenged around and found some dry grass and wood which he could use to start a fire. Holliday created a make shift fire pit and then used an old 9 volt and some steel wool to set it alight. After the fire was started, Holliday placed rocks in it so he could later boil some water. When that was done Holliday laid out his bed roll, thus completing his makeshift campsite. The whole set up might have taken him 20 minutes, half and hour max.

As it was a while before sunset, Holliday had some time to kill. He dug once more through the many boxes and bins he had stored in his camper. At the very back he found one labeled fishing. In was a both a fly and a casting rod as well as various tackle. Compared to his hunting and shooting gear, his fishing gear was in short supply. This was because he was from a desert where fishing holes were scarce. Holliday fumbled with the rod and reel, eventually assembling it and rigging it up with a barbed hook on which he put old power-bait. Then he wandered down to the river banks and cast out a line. Chances were nothing would bite, but it would help distract him for the time being. To further increase the effect Holliday pulled out his phone, which he'd been charging on the car trip home, and then set it to play some old cowboy music at a volume where the fish if any couldn't hear.

Miyuki looks up at Jenny, "Oh ya, here you go." She says as she hands her the bottle from the bag and gives it to her, "Sorry about how little there is, we are going to come up with a plan to get more." She says as she looks at the meat, "Thank you," She says as she keeps it beside her. "Um quick question, how much more food is there?" She asks as she wonders if there would be enough for everyone. She didn't want anyone to go hungry tonight, and she was willing to give up her food cause she had a small protein bar in her bag that she can eat later.

@Jennifer Shotain

Tammys question was ignored. Instead she walked to the makeshift campsite. Holliday had a very plotted setup. He even set a fire....which was probably dangerous if attention from undead could see. She disregarded it for the daylight didn't fade quite yet. His footprints were fresh in the soft dirt and she saw they led to the river. 'Getting water?'she asked.

She walked to the river holliday sat quietly. She held the crowbar in her left hand. Her skin was sunburnt. She looked like shit. In her opinion. Makeup was a luxury she dreamed of finding. No luck yet. Even something as simple and foundation would make her day. She sighed out loud. She started to make herself depressed. She saw holliday finally by the river. He appeared to be fishing. Tammy had no idea how to fish. When it came to outdoor stuff she knew nothing. However she was very talented at improvising. She generally was good at creating things and thinking up unique solutions to complicated issues. She walked deside him. Fire arms all over and his cowboy hat on. He was listening to music quietly. She sat down laying down silently on her back her Boobs supported by her pushup sports bra. Her legs were sore and she crossed them. She didn't say a word rather lied there on the soft green grass. Her eyes closed for a second relaxing crowbar still by her side and hand behind her head.

The world stood still and so did her and holliday.

@Mercer

Austin took a spot by the river and stared at it, the man was restless after Jennifer's words. She hadn't realized how spot on a few of her pick-up's were about him, blowing out a huff as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He'd worked so hard on looking out for himself, that his own words that he was still human bothered him as well, because thinking back he'd made himself a little less human each time he'd ignored plea's for help...each time he'd seen a struggling survivor and kept moving as if he hadn't...each time shots rang out in the distance and he'd turned back over to go back to sleep.

The man was pulled from the flashes in his mind by movement and noise, and looking to his right and downstream he saw that Holliday was doing like he said, setting up a tent. Austin had used a tent or two on the gas station rooftops when it'd rained, but ultimately they weren't worth the hassle of bringing with him, carry light and such.

Austin turned his attention back to the stream ahead of him, wondering if he should have ever left that gas stations roof. What made him decide that these people had been worth helping? And more importantly why was he still around? Austin rubbed at his face harshly for a moment, he'd had a million chances to leave but hadn't taken them. That first step off the gas station had set this in motion, learning their names, they weren't just random survivors he could ignore. By learning their names and what they we're like he felt obligated to...try or something.

"This is how the world is now." He mumbled lowly, almost trance-like.

The words haunted him as did the night they we're spoken. Was he willing to stick around to watch it happen again?

Austin shook his head in frustration then decided to head back up to the mill, climbing up the backside he walked to the front to where a few of them had taken watch the night before and took a seat. Nobody was on watch, though Austin wasn't too surprised with the inhabitants they'd left behind but he'd of thought Tori or Aidan would have taken up while they were gone.

Holliday noticed Tammy long before she ever got close. She had peacefully come up from behind and had just decided to lay down without saying a word. Holliday didnt mind it much, the river was nice this time of day and she was keeping to herself. He just kept still and focused his attention to the line in his hand and the movement of the water. After many minutes of peaceful silence between the two of them, Holliday felt the rod twitch. He snapped it up and began reeling hard, but the lind wouldn't budge. "Dang it, cursed weeds." After fiddling with the line a bit, he decided it was a lost cause and cut it using a small pocket knife. "Blast, I was hoping for at least something," he muttered to himself, "Maybe I could try a streamer set up."

Holliday sighed and began to tie the necessary knotts, but stopped after a minute. Chances were that carp were the only fish in this dirty river anyhow. He sighed and set the rod down beside him. It was at this moment his attention shifted to the woman next to him. Maybe he should try to get to know her better. He's most likely leave the group in time, but until then it would be nice to learn a bit about the people who he was sharing a shelter with. He then realized that the current song was an old yodeling cowboy song, one she'd probably detest. "If you want me to change the music, just let me know. I've got more modern stuff you'd probably like better." He thought it was a decent conversation starter as any

She glanced over opening a single eye. She continued not to say a word closed her eye and said nothing. Her thoughts drifted. She thought about what assets she served to herself and her group she's made refuge with. To be honest she didn't really care what happened at this point austin didn't trust her, miyuki barely did, she didn't care. She was with people and that was a first. She was safe for the first time right next to longhshot. She wasn't gonna get confortable though that's a sign of weekness.

Finally her eyes opened she had alot on her mind. She wanted training. She needed to learn how to handle a firearm. She needed to become stronger. This was much her mindset even when it came to fitness and working out. Her arms stretched out and she sat up. " I don't know how to fire a gun. " She muttered under her breath. That was the first person. She told. She trusted him unlike anything or anyone.

@Mercer

Holliday had known many people who had never touched touched a gun let alone fired one, so this wasn't a suprise. What caught him off guard was the fact that she was still alive. To have made it as long as she had alone with only using a crowbar, it was fairly impressive. Holliday stood up and stretched. After which he rolled his shoulders. "Do you have that 9 mill on you? If so we can change that right now. Follow me."

Holliday picked up his fishing rod and walked back over to his his truck. He put the pole away and then moved to the center console where he had his SIG SAUR p229 which me was nearly out of ammo for. He took of his leather holsters and instead switched to a concealed holster designed for the gun in hand.

She followed closely and nodded. "I've never been able to fire one." I don't think I even would be able to shoot it." Tammy actually said something showing weakness. She didn't want to but every teacher was once a student. She walked toward the abandoned house toward the south of the mill. They were about 200 yards from the mill by now and finally made it to the wreckage. She was armed and so was he so she wasn't worried. "Ok..."

@Mercer

Holliday gave her a Cheshire Cat smile, "I don't think you are able to shoot it either, so you won't. Right now we'll work on your stance, grip, reload, and draw. Once I think you are confident we'll switch to live ammo. Which reminds me, unload you pistol. Watch how I do it with mine and follow along." Holliday then dropped the magazine and put it in his pocket. Next he racked the slide back ejecting the round from the chamber. The carriage went flying and Holliday caught it in his hand.

"Alright, here comes the boring rules with my annotations. Rule 1: Aleays treat the gun like it is loaded. One stupid mistake and you could shoot yourself or worse me. However I just watched you clear yours so we can put that aside for the moment as I may have to get In front of you to correct you. Rule 2: Never point this at anything you are not willing to destroy. Know that while this is a tool, it is a powerful one. Also you will inevitably find yourself staring down others. This leads to Rule 3: When you draw this gun have killing intent. There is no half way when it comes to drawing a weapon. If you point this at someone don't act hesitant, let them know what you are willing to do otherwise there is no point. Rule 4: Know what lies behind yor target. Make sure you know what you're aiming at or else the round can ricochet right back at you or hit somthing important. Well, those are the big ones for me. Do they make sense?"

Tammy nodded as she observed and listened. Like clockwork he unloaded the gun.

She tried to do the same she struggled to find the magazine clip release but found it near the safety lock which was the only thing she knew on the gun since she never took it off except when she found it. The clip slid out and hit her Nike shoe she picked it up and tagged it into her waistband of her leggings. Her hips flared to the right. "Fuck this is tough." She then figured out how to dislodge the chambered bullet. She pulled the top back and nothing popped out like his. Without knowing her gun was never live she stated, "my gun didn't have a bullet in it. Does that mean it's broken?" She said slanting up to him. She was tall but he was just a bit taller than her by a few inches.

She continued to hold the firearm toward the ground then moved it as it pointed near him but not quite at him. "What's wrong with it?" She asked blankly staring.

@Mercer

Holliday sighed, this was going to be his whole night. "No, your gun is fine. It just means you never chambered a round. It happens when you load a full mag and rack te slide like so." He showed her the motion using his pistol.

"Alright, first thing first, figure out which is your dominant eye if you don't already know. That will be the eye you use to aim with. After you've done that I want to look at my stance and copy it."

Holliday squared up his stance and moved his feet about shoulder width apart. Then staggered his feet so that his left one was about half a step forward. Then he bent his knees and leaned forward at his waist. "Ok now you try. You must understand that this stance has to be very aggressive and not any of the dainty, feminin, leaning back crap. Get ready like you are about to pounce. This will put you into good position allowing you to both handle the recoil and let you move at a moments notice."
