Realistic or Modern Zombie Apocalypse

"Oh, hi, Miyuki," Jennifer said, standing up and wiping the tear from her cheek.

"It's," she paused, trying to find the correct wording, "it's nothing. Just a bad nightmare about something personal, that's all."

Jennifer felt awkward standing there. She didn't want anyone to know she was getting teary eyed from a nightmare. She felt embarrassed, as if it made her look weak.

"Have you any idea what's going on with the scavenging mission, by any chance," questioned Jennifer, trying to break her little awkwardness.

Jennifer was surprised that none of the undead were near them, or wandered by the mill, that she knew of, that is. She would have expected at least one to butt its ugly, decaying face in their way. And looking around, it appears that the kid who saved them wasn't back. She wondered what happened to him.

@KathleneWilliams2121

Aidan used to be good at remembering her dreams but as everything started falling appart, her dreams became more and more difficult to remember. As with most things though, she didn't really want to remember them anymore. Had she remembered her dream she would have seen her mother attempting to urge a young child to come with her to the hospital. The child didn't want to. The young child didn't want to see the man everyone told her was her father. The young child knew what her father looked like and this man was too thin, too pale, too sad. This man had her father's hat though. Had she remembered her dream she would have seen a girl chasing kids away as they made fun of Aidan for her decision to change her name. The two girls promised each other that they would be there for each other forever. She would later see her school building overrun with infected as she listened to voices she vaguely recognized scream. Had she remembered her dream, she would have remembered a more menacing version of her stepfather walk up behind her. He whispered how Aidan had abandoned them all.

"I couldn't save them," she tried to argue, "You left us!"

"You left me," suddenly the two of them were in their car. The car that Aidan had used to get her mother away from the zombies.

"And then you killed my wife," Aidan quickly closed her eyes, knowing what would happen next.

She couldn't hear the sound of the shotgun and thus risked opening her eyes. Her mother lay in front of her. As per usual, her shotgun remained on her back. Her mother began wheezing out "kill me" repeatedly. Her stepfather came back and stood next to her to prove his point. She didn't want to but her hand slowly wandered to her back on it's own. While she struggled not to take aim, she wanted to run away, her stepfather leaned down to whisper, "And now you wished you abandoned her too."

She finally managed to turn her gun, this time to the apparition that looked like her stepfather. She heard her stepfather scream as if he were to wake from his nightmares. She heard her mother scream as though she took the poor shot again. As she closed her eyes again the screams stopped. New figures formed. New people she had met. Jennifer, Austin and Tori stood turned away from her. There was something off. Aidan wandered around them and gasped in horror. Jennifer had her wound open again, Austin had been shot cleanly in the forehead, and Tori seemed to be in a similar state as her mother before she had died. Aidan knew what they would say before they said it.

"Kill me," and with that she managed to jar herself awake.

In the end, most of the dream didn't matter. All she could remember was the wounds of her new friends. Aidan quickly picked herself up and soon noticed that said people weren't around. Her heart rate rapidly increased and her breathing became uneven. As she rushed outside she spotted Jennifer and relief spread through her. Embarrassment followed soon after. Aidan had only known these people for a day and she had already become incredibly concerned for their well being. She needed to calm herself down. These people might not even stick around. That thought made her even more disappointed than she thought it would.

She decided to listen in on the conversation instead. It seemed as though Jennifer hadn't fared any better over the night. If her nightmare had managed to draw tears, it had been significantly worse than her own. Aidan's eye's were drawn to where Jennifer's wound would be. It didn't seem to be bothering her too much. It wasn't her business to worry so much.

It sounded as though the scavenging mission had been planned out more or less. Aidan had volunteered to go early the day previous but at this moment it sounded as though the plan had changed a significant amount. For one, Jennifer wasn't going out to fetch her medicine for sure. Tori was probably sticking around as well. Aidan suspected that she wouldn't be going either. While she was strong, it sounded as though speed was required for this trip.

"Yeah, who's going on this trip anyway?" Hopefully they would gather shotgun shells, food and water. That or someone would hopefully be up for going with her into the woods to set some traps up.

@Jennifer Shotain @KathleneWilliams2121 @tammynorthland

A long groan escaped the woman's lips the moment that light had been able to infiltrate the room and make it to her face. Tori was used to sleeping in utter darkness. She needed pitch black and dead silence to sleep and here she got neither. She slowly and begrudgingly sat up remembering her lovely black out blinds at home that could make her think it was the dead of night for days at a time in her pretty new house she had just bought with all the damn money she had just made. Tori sighed and stretched her arms above her head and looked around what she was sleeping in now. She decided that she just wasn't meant to ever have money or sleep comfortably with no worries cause as soon as her gaming company had hit big time the fricken Apocalypse just HAD to happen right? she jut HAD to volunteer to fly her dumb ass all the way over here and head the PR campaign and get caught up in this stupid mess. She decided she was an ejit and she would stick to her own damn country if she ever made it out of this alive and if her own damn place was even still in tact.

With one last glare around the room Tori slid stiffly off the table she had lay on the night before. She was grumpy this morning, she's had a crappy night's sleep and she was hungry..two deadly things to combine since either one on there own made her not every nice company at times. Tori ran the fingers of one hand through her hair in an attempt to brush it and she grabbed what water she had left in the bottle miyuki had given her with the other and downed it. Her throat was sore and she swore to anyone that was listening if she got sick there would be hell to pay. That was the last thing she needed right now. Taking afew moments to pull herself together and at least try to pretend to be in better form than she was tori stuck her hair in a quick french plait and headed to see who else was awake.

It wasn't hard to find them as soon as she stepped out the door into the blinding morning light she glanced around the women that were up "Morning" she mumbled to pass herself and simply walked over and sat down beside Jen. She looked at the girl from the side of her and seen the tear rolling down her cheek. She thought about asking about it but she didn't wanna embarrass her by drawing attention tot he fact she was cry but as soon as that thought entered her head miyuki asked her what was up anyways. Tori turned her attention to Tiffany then and waited to see if jen wanted to talk about what was up or not. "Hey have you got my jacket? i put it under you head as a pillow last night when you passed out...i uhh ell its kinda fricken freezing so i'd like it back."

@Shimakage Thunder @KathleneWilliams2121 @tammynorthland

Miyuki looks over at Jen and nods her head. She figured she wouldn't want to talk about it, or at least to a couple of strangers. "Alright then, as long as you're ok." Suddenly, she was near her. Miyuki looks up at her and sighs, "I don't know to be honest, I think the only ones up right now is You, Tiffany, Jen, and myself at the moment." That was when she heard another girl come over, Adian she thought, as she came up. Then the other girl that was talking to Austin last night and the girl she gave the water to, Tori, appered as well. 'A lot of people up this early in the morning................and those two lazy bums can't get down here.' Miyuki then looks over at Tori, 'Sounds like her throat is sore, hopfully she isn't getting sick.......hopfully my coughing wont show up.' Miyuki then remembers that she was asked a question from Adian. "Huh, oh ya. The plain is that Austin, David and I would go down to where David crashed about two weeks ago to get Jen's pills. However, if Austin and David isn't going to show up, I'm going alone." She remembered as to where the location was, thanks to David showing her last night but doing it alone would be tricky, hopfully not impossible.

Tiffany returned her attention to Miyuki. When she said that she was going to go alone, Tiffany shook her head. "No, I'm not letting you go out there by yourself. At least take one other person with you." She pleaded, grabbing the girl's hand.

She looks up at the mother-to-be and shakes her head, "It's only if Austin and David don't show up. Besides, I'm the fastest one here. If a problem arises I can pull myself out. You can't go as you are still pregnant, Jen is injured, Aryn has a baby and I don't think Tori, Adian or Miss North are as fast as me." She says as she looks at the three, "No offence. I just personally see it easier on everyone if I go by myself but again, that is a last resort."

Austin hadn't waited the night before, he'd grabbed Miyuki's map and with the instructions he'd gotten from David the man had left the Mill with a set course to the chopper. Hours later when the sun started up he returned in a vehicle, noting a gathering of the others just outside the mill. Austin was getting a few curious looks and a few upset looks, wasting no time in giving them the bird as he stepped out of the truck and slid his sunglasses on. "What's everyone standing around for?" He asked, knowing full well what it was. "Oh this?" Austin underhanded some medicine to Jen before jacking his thumb at the truck. "Supplies in the truck if you all don't mind being dears and unloading it, I think I'll go take a nap." Suddenly he saw a bat being swung at his face.....

...and then he woke up. "The fuck was that dream?" He mumbled, sitting up half-awake. Eventually making his way outside to relieve himself and get ready for what was supposed to be a run for Jen's meds.

--

"What's this about going by yourself?" Austin spoke up as he neared the group, having heard the chatter as he walked closer from around the side of the mill. "Fast is good, but fast isn't indestructible, you got a death-wish kid?" The man shook his head, he'd only gotten adequate sleep the night before. Sleeping with people in the same vicinity wouldn't stop scratching and gnawing at the back of his mind, and had very obnoxiously lost him hours of sleep.

"I take it you know how to get there then? Did the boy-scout go over anything with you about how to get the stuff? It's in some super chamber of the chopper that you have to get into a certain way, not to mention there's no way to know what kind of containers it's in. What if it was too big to carry back? You'd have to get a car, which makes your speed useless. Do you know how to hot-wire one?" Austin arched a brow, a little annoyed, if there was one thing that got on his nerves it was half-assed decisions or plans that weren't completely thought out. Which was why this whole thing bothered him, since David had decided not to go over it last night with him. "Your beginning to sound as cocky as he does." Austin remarked with arms crossed over his chest, rather amused than anything.

Miyuki stands up and faces Austin, wishing now that he was asleep. "Well maybe if you were up earlier I wouldn't have to consider that thought. Also, yes he did show me where to go and how to get there. I doubt that pills and some cans will be so big that I need a jeep and in fact yes I do know how to hot wire, thanks to a cousin of mine. The reason I want myself to go is because I don't risking my life out there to try to help other people. I say I'm fast but not only on my feet but I also make quick choices as to how to get myself out. How do you think I figured out how to survive on my own." Miyuki's ears turned red with anger and her eyes were cold, "I told Tiffany this, you all have something to live for, I don't. Now are we going to get going and stop wasting time or are we going to stand here like idiots." She turns around and walks off, not caring if Austin was going to follow her. She knew that he was probably still going to think that she was trying to be cocky but she was just trying to look out for people. She felt like what she said was in one of those soap operas that her mom used to watch and make fun of. She closes her eyes and count to ten in her head, trying to calm herself down. Pulling out the map she made, she looks at the marks she made with David and sees where to go and follows said path. 'I sure hope David wakes up in time to catch up.'

@Shimakage Thunder

"Why are you in such a rush to risk your life?" He called out after Miyuki as she angrily stalked off, it was clear as day that he'd gotten under her skin as she'd turned on him in an instant. "Jen has enough medicine to hold her over for a few more days." Austin nodded his head sideways towards Jennifer, "There's no rush to go out there and get it, other than maybe preference. Yet your raring to go first thing, have patience kid. David knows more about the path to take and the chopper itself than anyone else. Going without him puts our odd's at coming back alive and with the meds much lower."

Tori looked up when Austin decided to grace them with his presence and she was glad if that meant all the whining would stop. Quite frankly it was far to early and she wasn't nearly awake enough to sit here and listen to people complaining. Though she knew it was important for the run to happen. Sooner rather than later and not just for Jen's pills. They needed food and water or at least something they could use to filter water they needed medical supplies hell ammo other wise they would all be in deep shit. Starving to death wasn't how she was planning on going out but soon none of them would have the energy to go on any kinda run if they didn't eat something.

When Miyuki began to get mad and yell tori just started to rub at her skull. It felt like someone was trying to drill a hole in it and the hadn't been nice enough to put her under first. "Hey will you cut it the fuck out we all have something to live for..its called being fricken alive and if you didn;t think you had you wouldn't have bothered to keep fighting to stay alive this long!" Tori shot after Miyuki and shook her head. She knew Austin would probably follow after her they weren't about to let her run off on her own, She pushed to her feet "Look if you guys wanna go on then we can tell david when he gets up i am sure he will catch up to you in no time" The woman suggested trying to keep the piece for once. She was so done with the yelling. "We can hold this place..down and hey austin do me a favor..if you find any old com radios even if they are broke bring em back..i might be able to fix em. least we would have a way to talk to each other at some distance" Tori shrugged her shoulder. "Don't go out of your way or anything just if there are some on the chopper. they could be useful" She leaned back against the side of the mill and used her hand to shield her eyes from the sun "And ya know try not to die and stuff"

@Shimakage Thunder @Jennifer Shotain @KathleneWilliams2121 @Lekar @tammynorthland

David had been awake all night, guarding everyone to the best of his ability. He seemed to be doing a nice job, because everyone wasn't dead. All night he was alone with his thoughts as everyone slept. After a night like that, he understands why people are more afraid of their own minds than the world around them. In this world, insanity will be quick to drive someone insane. After a full night of watch with nothing to do but keep an eye out and think, David finally started to understand why having the trust of these people was more important than ever. He wanted to keep his sanity, he didn't want to be alone. When the birds started to chirp and the sun rise, he could hear people waking up. He went in to find Miyuki and Austin, perhaps get them ready for the run. He found Miyuki in Austin's face, Austin looked tired but aware. He noticed that they didn't look like they were getting along, they were arguing and yelling at each other. He stepped in to resolve the conflict.

"Would you two cut it out? We're all going in about ten-ish minutes if you're both ready. The sun isn't up completely, it's still pretty dark, so we'll have at least some advantage. Besides, we still haven't gone over the plan. Get yourselves ready and meet back in about five minutes to cover what we're going to be doing. Now, stop the fussing or you're both goin' in the time-out corner."

David teased them both. He found it amusing that even in times like these, people seem to never change, always looking for something to argue about; such as: 'Who's going to risk their lives first?' or 'What tactic is best?'.

He leaned against the wall,

"Now come on, chop chop. I'm not playing second fiddle for whoever is too tired to maintain themselves."

Jennifer noticed Aidan and then Tori come towards her. Tori sat down next to her. Jennifer was a bit embarrassed people were gathering around her when she was noticeably tearing up minutes earlier.

"I'm okay, Miyuki. Thanks for asking," she said, then turning her head towards Tori, and giving a slight smile, before it vanished and she looked back at the sunlight glistening off of the water.

Since there was no use arguing with Miyuki, Tiffany decided to just let her go, but hopes that she returns safely. She couldn't imagine dying out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by post-human cannibals, let alone bringing a child into this world. "Alright then. Just try to come back in one peace, okay?" Tiffany sighed before giving Miyuki a quick hug, which was made difficult with the rounded belly. Although it was going to feel a little awkward, Tiffany kissed the young girl's forehead before departing and finding a place to rest up, because she had been standing for too long.

Miyuki was already ready as she sat on a rock, trying to calm herself down. She knew Austin was right but didn't want to admit it. David was finally with them and told them to get ready, well mainly Austin as she had everything she needed. She felt Tiffany hug her and she hugs her back. She felt Tiffany kiss her forehead and walk away. Sitting on the rock, she started to think to herself, getting less angry about Austin and more on herself, 'UGH I was playing into his word games. He saw I was getting angry and amused.' She felt like an idiot and most of all, people would just think of her as a stupid teen, once again. She sighs to herself as she stays on the rock she was on as she waits for David and Austin to get ready.

@Crono @Lekar

"Oh yeah." Austin started, with a roll of his eyes. "I'll be sure to be on the lookout for your random crap." His tone was neutral and he was joking, sort of. But gave her a nod at her request of him not dying, "Don't plan on it." Austin rubbed at the back of his neck as Jennifer spoke, "It's a matter of life and death, it's worth the risk. If you weren't in rough shape I'd be dragging you along, but you are. So somebody has to get them for you." He replied, eyes wandering to Tiffany who was telling Miyuki goodbye. Giving Jennifer a be right back look he headed towards the young girl, passing Tiffany along the way. Austin stopped just behind her, "You say you've got nothing to live for. That didn't look like nothing." Remarking to the bond that Miyuki had with Tiffany, it was clear as day that there was affection and trust. "Some people really don't have anything to live for, so don't overlook what you have."

Of course Austin was speaking of himself, but there was a moment where he turned his head and looked at the others between his position and the mill where he felt he should listen to his own advice. There was a reason he hadn't ditched out yet, maybe he didn't have to. The thoughts ended abruptly as he walked back towards the mill with David's arrival and of course Austin was lumped in with Miyuki about the arguing, but he was slowly learning to ignore certain tones in David's voice. With hands on his hips he faced David, "Pretty sure we're ready and just waiting on you. So say what your gonna say. Apparently you went over more with her than you did with me, so let's play catch-up."

@Shimakage Thunder @Lekar @KathleneWilliams2121 @Mica

Miyuki looks up at Austin as he mentions Tiffany. He had a point, Tiffany was just trying to keep her safe and she really appreciated it. It was almost like having a mother again....Lord knows how she misses her mother, hell her family.....She sighs, "I just want to make sure everyone is safe and doesn't put themselves in danger." She knows it was a weak argument but that's how she felt. She felt that Austin would understand, as he was a firefighter and risked his life a number of times. She watches David come up to them and Austin was talking to him. 'And so it starts' She says as she sits quietly and listens.

@Shimakage Thunder

Tammy listened in to the conversation and sat down. She opened her pack and drew out her stowed pistol she changed into fresher clothes that weren't stained with blood and dirt, she then proceeded to pull out a snack she found in a locked drawer a couple weeks back. It was her protein bar. She unwrapped it and dug in smiling with guilty pleasure. 'Damn I fucking miss these.'she thought as she Wolfed it down. Tammy looked up at everyone she was almost excluding herself from the bullshit mostly cuz she didn't want to deal with it. Tammy was strong she knew it. Miyuki was very strong and talented. "I wish I had a talent." She inaudibly grumbled to where none of them would noticed since they were caught in the madness. Tammy then zipped up her backpack and stood up. She stowed all her stuff last night in a lock box with no working lock and hid it. Not taking chances and extra weight will sucks for the trip back. She was originally gonna ask everyone for help getting food. Austin and One-Eye had different plans. Stretching her arms she grinned. "Gametime." She said to them

@KathleneWilliams2121 @Lekar @Mica @Crono

Aidan watched the bickering and then the goodbyes. While she wanted to say something, everything seemed to have been said already. If One-eye didn't return with Austin, she swore to herself that she would personally deal with him. She would like to say the same for the girl, Miyuki, but she personally had few connections with the girl. Today she really needed to get food, while at the same time she needed to do her best to keep the infected away from their camp. Creating traps sounded like the best option. Miyuki probably could have helped as well with her more silent arrows but she would be leaving. Any supply of water would also be handy since Aidan would start becoming dangerously dehydrated soon. Perhaps she could just ask but she would save that as a last resort.

When Tammy mentioned game, Aidan figured it would be time to interject, "Do you have a silencer that goes with that pistol? I really don't want to keep running from infected again."

She would go with Tammy, whether she had a quiet gun or not but she did want to make her wary. Yesterday was filled with many, many new faces but she'd prefer not to create another horde. She wasn't sure she had the energy to keep running and fighting. She definitely didn't have enough ammunition.

@tammynorthland

Tammy looked over at at the girl presumed to be named aiden. She wasn't gonna tell them she didn't know how to fire a gun especially on this venture it would show a huge weak spot in her. Instead she tilted her head. "That's why I'm heading to the chopper. If we find one I'll use it." She lied but no one would know. This whole tammy tammys sole purpose was to collect and protect. She wanted to scavenge but needed to be careful at how she followed this group. She planned on following from a flank about it 10 meters out or 5. But something told tammy that One-Eye had a stronger....different plan

"You're going to the chopper? And they know this," Aidan gestured to the group that had just left.

This was going to be a terrible idea. She didn't have a silencer and if the group didn't know she was tagging along, they might end up shooting her by accident or worse. Hopefully someone would try to convince her to stick around or to go elsewhere, go somewhere safer. Why did she want to follow them anyway. The group contained what Aidan was pretty sure to be their best fighters, or at least all had talents and skills which Aidan had seen. Tammy hasn't shown that she had any specialized skills, though she assumed she was capable enough to use her pistol. She also seemed to be a little rash. It seemed like a combo for disaster.

@tammynorthland

Opening the back of her Jeep, Tiffany started looking around for something comfortable. Since she couldn't really go out and scavenge or anything, all she could really do at the moment was take a nap. Sure, she was going to feel bad about it, but she needed all the rest she could get until her baby arrives. It wasn't too long until she gives birth. She then grabbed a sleeping bag that she was able to find. She unrolled and and decided to lay down. Sure, sleeping on the ground was really uncomfortable, but it wasn't like she had a bed and there wasn't much room in the Jeep for her to fully lay down. Plus the Car Seats got uncomfortable after a while. Sighing, she rolled over onto her left sighed, straightened out her cardigan and her dress and closed her eyes.

Tori shot Austin a dead pan expression when he rolled his eyes at her and just crossed her arms over her chest "It is not random crap it is very well crap that could make future supply runs easier, faster and safer if i can get them to work" She stated firmly "So there" she said in a childish tone and stuck her tongue out at him before breaking into a short laugh. She nodded her head when he said he didn't plan on dying and gave a quick thumbs up. The woman really hopped they all came back. This group was tired and not just physically mentally too she could see it in their faces. They needed a win and some supplies would do that heck they would probably be happy just to see an armful she thought. Tori glanced back toward the mill as an idea started to come into her head and a small smile upturned the blondes lips. "Hmm right anyone not going on the supply run and that is able bodied. I have something that will keep us occupied while they are gone annnnnd it will be beneficial to the whole group" She announced and with that she turned on her heel to head back into the mill "Whoever wants to help out meet me in the very back room..the work room thingy" she glanced over her shoulder at the people who were going on the run "safe trip guys. hurry back" with that she went on inside.

@Shimakage Thunder @Mica @KathleneWilliams2121

Miyuki looks over at everyone who were telling them bye. She was happy knowing that they were somewhat concerned for them. The one person who caught her attention was Tammy. She saw her following them and what she said. She sighs as she looks over at her. She didn't want to say anything as she was already on people's hate list. She coughs a little, in order to get Tammy's attention and as she felt a tickle in it. 'Oh no,' She thinks to herself as she looks at her, "Did you tell Austin and David that you were joining us?"

@tammynorthland @Crono @Lekar

Tammy heard Miyuki and smiled, "no." She tilted her head and conitued walking with them front the looks of it we were taking this on foot approaching the town tammy came from she walked along the path crowbar clutched the town seemed quiet and they were in a wide open area so chances of ambushes from corpsers were unlikely. Tammy had another mission outside of this. Something for her own benefit.

Jennifer decided to let everyone go and talk about the scavenging mission, and use this time to be by herself for a bit. She walked down to the river, and leaned against a tree, watching the water flow. Back when she was younger, she always liked to be around aquatic environments. But due to the death of her brother, she has become hesitant to ever go in the water. Still, however, she enjoyed being around rivers, lakes, ponds, and oceans. She always found the outdoors a peaceful place, where she could sit out for hours and and relax and enjoy nature around her. When she had to move to Ohio, she was upset. She loved her old house and the land and woods around it. It wasn't quite the same here, and being in a suburban environment was something she didn't like. And after all of this running from undead and trying to survive, she hasn't had the time to sit back and relax. Everything's been about survival.

She watched the water flow, and hit the wheel of the mill. The river was flowing at a fast rate. Little branches and pieces of human garbage flowed by at a fast rate. On the other side of the river, she watched an undead hobble around. As it walked, its leg got caught on something, and it fell. However, the leg that got caught detached from the body. Curious as to how the walker would react, she watched closely. It started to flail its arms about. Soon thereafter, it stopped, and started to drag its body around. Jennifer started to wonder how these things worked. A virus? Maybe. Bacteria? Seemed less likely. Protozoa? Also seems unlikely. Fungal? Seemed rather plausible to her. But then again, there were no fungal growths anywhere that seemed to indicate it. So maybe no fungal. Parasitic? Maybe, but why would they attack dead organisms and cause them to reanimate? There were so many questions Jennifer had about the undead. Jennifer sat there a little while longer, and soaked in whatever enjoyment she could before things got dramatic and chaotic again.

Once she was done taking in the beauty of nature, she walked back to the mill. Everyone seemed to be discussing the mission.

"Hey, whoever's going, please be safe," she called out to them, before she entered the mill.

It was time to check inventory. She walked over to her backpack and checked what she had. She had already known her ammunition situation, so she didn't bother with that. Her knife was plenty sharp, however, she liked to sharpen it in her free time. Food was getting low. She had about 7 packs of breakfast and protein bars. Her water was down to less than a quarter of a bottle. Though, she figured if she could make a fire and boil some river water, she could fill it up and drink it safely.

She got up and started to search the mill for something she could use as a pot for her water to boil in. She looked around, and finally found some sort of pot. It probably wasn't a cooking pot. However, it'll do. And now was the hard part; making a fire. Jennifer wasn't a stranger to making fire. She would do it periodically when she was with her father when they lived in their old house, and here and there when she needed to after the new world started. Thankfully, she had a bunch of magnesium fire starter kits. While they could be difficult to use, they were much easier than doing it the old fashioned way with sticks. Jennifer took out her knife, the magnesium, a bag, and piece of old paper she had crumbled up in her backpack. She started to peel bits of magnesium off the tool it came with on the paper, and then would transfer it to the small plastic bag.

It's time to play woman vs. nature, Jennifer thought to herself, and she looked around the mill for anything that would help create a fire with.

She found some small pieces of wood and other things that will help with a fire. Perfect.

Jennifer walked out, and found a spot where she wasn't close to anything flammable and started to prepare wood for a fire. She walked around and got more wood to burn, and then walked down to the river, and got water in the pot. Once everything was together, she attempted to light the wood on fire. She first ignited the paper, after several tried with the magnesium, and transferred it over to the fire. Soon, the smaller bits in it caught fire, and soon, the wood itself. Jennifer then placed the pot over the fire, using some metal thing she found in the mill to support it. After awhile, the water started to boil. She let it boil for around a minute and a half to two minutes, just to be safe and make sure nothing was alive inside of there that could harm her. She took it off of the fire, and let it cool before she put it in her canteen. She now had safe drinking water.
