Doc tried to comfort Jennifer after her shouting match.
"Thanks, Doc," she said, whispering as she glanced at her. "I'm going to sit down for a minute."
Once everyone stated their feelings, Jennifer sat down. The pain bothered her, but she didn't care right now. She flipped her safety on on her rifle, and placed the butt of it on the ground. She leaned her head against the warm barrel. She felt disappointed in herself for getting so angry. Whenever she lost her cool, regardless of if it was before or after the world of the undead, she always was disappointed in herself. Today's been a hell of a day so far. And it hasn't been easy. All she has done is run and run and fought her her life, other people's lives, to protect herself and the others she had met and started to like. In truth, she hasn't had anything like this. She had seen some of the worst in people in this new world. She didn't want to be with people or trust them. Yet, here she was doing just that. And furthermore, she killed people today. She never killed anyone living before. While it was self defense and survival, she couldn't help but feel terrible for ending a real, living person's life, even if it was to protect herself.
Furthermore, she thought about how this man went through some difficult things. She couldn't imagine being through what she did. But it appears that everyone has their own baggage they have to carry around with them now. She felt pity for him. That was terrible what he had experienced. But part of her wondered if they could still trust them. He killed so young, even if his father was a smear on humanity and killed his mother. He did end up killing her. And then he had to kill innocent people in war. She wants to think that the man wants to leave that life behind, and protect people, as opposed to hurt them. But as Austin said, what he did didn't earn our trust. But it may have earned him a chance. Then there was Tammy. Jennifer still was uncertain of her. She hadn't done much to earn trust, or a chance, for that matter. The verdict is still out on her.
"I'll take part in any decision made. If we do decide to let them stay, I suggest we have people watch them until they earn our complete trust," she said, getting up.
Jennifer, feeling sorrow for what she had said, walked over to One Eyed.
"I'm sorry for making things get personal. It's been a really long day. I want to apologize for saying what I did, and making this personal," she said, with an apologetic tone. "You haven't earned my trust yet. But I think Austin's right; you've earned the chance to try to earn it. I just think we still need to keep an eye on you." She paused for a moment, looking away from him, then returning her eyes to his face. "I'm sorry about your past," she said, before walking away and back to where she was sitting before.
Jennifer took a deep breath, and let her emotions sail out of her as she exhaled. She felt calmness enter her body. She was finally levelheaded again.
