By the next morning carmen was worn out having spent the whole night staying up with him and worrying about him but she couldn’t get back to sleep so a lie in wasn’t an option, making her way downstairs and finding some food in his cupboard she could use to make them breakfast to keep herself busy, smiling when she felt arms go around her waist.

The first thing Jon heard was the normal sounds of a busy hospital but as he started to become more aware he could hear other sounds, like the voice of his ex wife and their son, eventually managing to open his eyes and look around the room a little, finally finding her in a chair and Jack next to the bed, running a toy car up and down his dads leg. He couldn’t get any words out with his mouth that dry but he managed to move his hand a little and get her attention.

Sarah saw his hand move from the corner of her eye and quickly pressed the call button moving Jack away from him "Jon?! Shit you okay?" She asked helping him sip some water when she heard him grunt "Hey...you're alright." She whispered to him before she gave a heavy sigh. She still loved her ex-husband deeply, but they were just not good for one another. They wanted different things from life and it ultimately led to their end.

JD woke up early that morning and groaned softly reaching over to pull Carmen close but he started to freak out when he felt an empty space. He quickly got up and made his eay downstairs relaxing immediately when he heard her in the kitchen. He made his way there and kissed her cheek gently as he wrapped his arms around her from behind "Good Morning beautiful."

She smiled some, leaning back into him a little and tilted her head back, kissing under his chin, "Morning... I found some food in the cupboard to make some breakfast. "You sleep okay in the end?" She asked him quietly, taking a sip of the soda she'd got out the fridge seeing as he had no juice.

He groaned quietly and just leaned back after getting some water, taking a couple minutes to adjust and realise what was going on while his nurse checked him over and left them to privacy again "Hey... Sorry I scared you." He mumbled, reaching for Jack when he started getting impatient. "Hey buddy, how you doin?"

Sarah let the nurse look him over before she helped Jack onto the bed giving a heavy sigh "Did more than scare me....you've been got for 3 days...what did you get yourself into Jon?" She asked quietly while Jack fumbled around to get his cars so he could show them to his dad.

JD gave a small nod and kept his grip secured on her "Yeah...I slept alright. I know you didn't sleep though. I felt you tossing and turning all night, you okay?" He asked quietly

She smiled some shaking her head "I don't sleep... Never have slept well but lately I've got back into bad habits." She told him "Why do you think I run on caffeine?" She giggled some.

Jon frowned some, watching their little boy some. He was only two and yet Jon had already missed so much of his life because of his job. He didn't want to have to do that anymore. "Mafia job... They worked out I was a cop, beat me with a crowbar. What's the damage?" He asked her quietly.

Sarah frowned some and shook her head "Goddamn it Jon....you gotta get out of this." She said quietly before she frowned more "Interal and external bruising all over. Three cracked ribs, anymore and they would have been shattered completely. You had some interal bleeding but they patched it up. You can't leave until your ribs are stable enough and they know the bleeding it completely gone." She explained

JD nuzzled his face into the side of her neck and chuckled lightly "You know thats not good for you mamí." He whispered softly to her before he moved to turn off the stove "Mmm I think I want something else for breakfast in all honesty."

She smiled some, enjoying him being a little more back to himself. This was the man she was falling hard for and she would take him, broken parts and all but she just hoped she wouldn't be fixing him for forever. "I know, I know, you sound like my mother." She laughed some then frowned "Oh... this'll just go to waste though if we g-" She got cut off when he lifted her to sit on the counter "Oh... Oh I see..." She giggled and pulled him in closer by wrapping her legs around his hips.

He frowned some and just watched her "I didn't really have much choice... I've put in for a transfer but it's gonna be a while before they let me move." He explained quietly. "There aren't any new positions in house yet and I told them I can't move cities so I have to wait for something to come up."

Sarah gave a heavy sigh but nodded some "Just...be careful okay?" She murmured before she leant forward kissing his forehead gently "Your son needs his father." She mumbled frowning some when she noticed a woman peering into the room before rushing off

JD smiled softly at her and lifted her onto the counter before he gave her a hungry kiss. Quickly he took her to the couch to get down the business only letting go of her once they were done

He frowned but nodded in agreement and gave her hand a squeeze as thanks, not having noticed Max at all, before laying back and letting Jack come up closer and cuddle into him carefully while Jon fell asleep again to get some rest.

Carmen groaned happily once they were done and got up to go get showered and cleaned up, having to use his body wash and shampoo but she wasn't complaining about being able to smell him all day, getting her clothes back on and then headed down to him "We should take the dogs for a walk, stop by Trader Joe's on the way back for a few bits for your kitchen." She suggested.

Sarah sighed softly but smiled wide as Jack waved his hands infront of Jon's face to get his attention 'Daddy! Look car!' She heard him say before he showed him the new car he had gotten.

JD groaned happily and soon got dressed waiting for her to shower before he did so too "Mmmm alright, just stay by me alright?" He murmured before he kissed her gently and went to take a quick shower as well

She nodded some and left him to it, cleaning up from trying to make breakfast, getting the dogs fed and then sat on his couch waiting quietly for him.

Jon smiled some watching his little one, "Oh that's a cool one, did mommy get you that one?" He asked him, kissing his head and jept him close. "Have you been a good boy for Mommy lately?" He asked him

JD came down not too long after and smiled softly at her "Ready?" He he asked softly as he put his shoes on giving a small sigh

Jack nodded and smiled more "Uh huh!" He said happily gasping some as he looked at Sarah with a panicked face "Mommy! I gotta tinkle!!"

Jon smiled and watched them go to find a bathroom, laying back again and starting to drift off to sleep without meaning to, still without much energy in him.

Carmen nodded and got leashes on the dogs, taking his hand and walked out with him, heading to the park to walk thedogs first. “So are you gonna go home forChristmas? I only ask cause... I know we’re early days yet... but if you’re not going home and if you don’t have plans... my family would be more than happy to have you.” She told him, taking his hand.

Max frowned softly as she watched Sarah leave and quickly went in to see Jon. She took his hand in hers letting a few tears fall "I'm so sorry...." she whispered taking a deep breath and frowned when she heard someone clear their throat. She looked over seeing Sarah sitting there "Who are you?" She asked feeling her heart drop 'I'm his wife.'

JD frowned and tensed some keeping her hand in his "I won't be going home...I just can't..." he said softly before he walked out biting his lip "Would um...they wouldn't get mad at me?" He said quietly

Carmen shook her head happily "Of course not... I have a whole bunch of brothers nd their wives plus their kids and my abuela. They'll be glad to see me bring someone home for the holidays." She assured him, "Look, don't decide yet... We got time but if you want to, the offer is there." She told him, giving his hand a squeeze and kept walking.

Jack was getting fussy with his mom keeping him on her lap "No! I wanna sit with Daddy." He fussed until he wriggled down and managed to get onto the bed by clambering up there, snuggling into Jon's side and staring at the other lady shyly, hiding behind Jon's arm that he was using as a security blanket.

Max saw the boy and took a shaky breath. There was no denying he was Jon's. She stood up and gave a small nod to Sarah "I'll get out of your hair." She said softly before she quickly left to her car crying softly as she got inside

JD gave a small nod and smiled some "Alright, that sounds nice. We never had a big family Christmas....my pops family was in Mexico along with my mom's." He said softly to her

Carmen nodded and smiled "Oh it's a big family alright." She giggled, letting the dogs off their leashes once they got to the park and let them run off a little, "I'm not usually one for christmas but I do enjoy spending the day with all of us together again... The only time of year we have that opportunity." She told him softly.

Jon woke up a little later on, groaning in pain and struggling to breathe as he looked around, a little disoriented again, not remembering what was going on "Max? Max?" He mumbled, trying to sit up and just fiddled with his IV until he felt someone pushing him to lay down again and a couple nurses came to see what was setting off alarms.

JD gave a small nod and smiled happily at her "That sounds really nice." Hr said quietly as they sat down while the dogs ran around "So how many sibkings do you have?" He asked when he realized he didn't know much about her family

Sarah frowned some now alone while Jack had gone to be with her parents "Not sure who Max is but there was a woman in here to see you earlier." She muttered

Carmen smiled watching him some. “I’m one of six.... all brothers that are older.” She told him slowly. “My parents took off when I was just a kid and rather than let us go to the system my eldest brother pulled together for a job and made sure to take care of us all... we used to be a really tight unit.” She told him, leaning into him a little. “Things changed as we got older but for the most part we still try to see each other at Christmas.”

He groaned in pain while they were checking him over. “Where’d she go?” He mumbled, still trying to get up and still being pushed to lay down again

Sarah frowned more as the nurses pushed on him shaking her head some "No right now you need to rest okay? Please Jon if you don't you'll get worse." She pleaded trying to help out the nurses in some way

JD gave a small smile and nodded some "Well they must have raised you well, you're such a strong woman... they should be proud of you. I know I am." He murmured to her as he watched the dogs.

He groaned in pain again not really thinking straight and just hearing someone say they were going to have to sedate him to make sure he didn’t hurt himself again, trying to fight against it but he was out within a couple of minutes again.

carmen smiledas she watched him and kissed his cheek. “You’re too sweet to me sometimes. I don’t know what I did to get you in my life... but I’m glad I did.” She told him quietly.

-3 weeks-

Max sat at her father's house in pure misery as she watched everyone. It was Christmas now and everyone had forgotten about Jon and the incident at the Gala, except for Max. She constantly thought about him, where he might be, if he was okay. After she had visited him in the hospital though she hadn't seen him again, the fact that she was his mistress tore her apart even more and all she wanted to do at the moment was curl up and hide from everyone.

JD stood outside the house adjusting his shirt again and looked over at Carmen nervously. He had been a wreck these past few days getting worried about how her family might see him. He wanted to make sure he made a good impression on everyone and that they liked him. He could tell this meant a lot to Carmen as well and he wanted to be perfect for her.

Carmen smiled some giving his hand a squeeze. “Stop. Relax. You’re fine.” She murmured to him, smiling wide when one of the kids opened the door and hugged her. “Hey!” She glanced back at JD and took him inside with the dogs, letting them run off while she took her bag of presents for everyone putting them under the tree in the adult lounge before taking JD through to the family room “hey everyone, this is Jorge.” She greeted them. She’d already explained that she was bringing her partner and she let him greet everyone.

Jon frowned a little, stood outside of the family home and knocked on the door. He’d spent all of Christmas Eve with Jack but Sarah had gone to her parents for today and he hadn’t been welcome I. That house for a long time. So he was at Franks place trying to explain.

Frank was about to suggest to max that she go have a lie down when his housekeeper came in and let him know that a Jon been that was there to see him. “Maxine. With me.” He told her, getting up and having her follow him out to the foyer. “What the hell do you think you’re doing here? You think you’re welcome here?!”

Jon shook his head and nodded to the don, looking over at max. “No I don’t think I am. But I wanted to come over anyway. Explain a few things. Try to talk to you. And max... I owe you an explanation.” He told her meaning his ex wife.

Max sighed softly frowning as she heard his father and quickly got up to follow him. She frowned and went a bit wide eyed seeing Jon in their front entrance way "You owe me nothing Jon...I know what was done..." she said trying not to run to him like she desperately wanted to

Frank glared at the man who had betrayed him and shook his head "The only reason you aren't dead is because we got out of that Gala, consider that a blessing and leave this town." He said seriously to him

Jon shook his head. “I never told them about the gala. In fact I was feeding them false information.... they’ve left me hung out to dry one too many times and I’m done with them.... max that woman has not been my wife for just over two years. We are divorced. I’ve loved you since I met you and I will do whatever it takes to prove it to you.” He told her seriously. “They’ve asked me for my final report.... I’m giving them false information. I will lose my job over this and I may very well go to prison for it. But I will prove to you that I am no longer with them.” He said looking back at frank again.
