follow up on vampires: am I correct to assume that fledglings cannot turn humans? Is the ability to turn humans something that has to be inherited from both biological parents or just one?


re: triggers

I would say stuff like sexual assault/abuse, especially involving kids and/or cocsa situations is probably my biggest trigger? But really only if it comes out of nowhere and is depicted 'on-screen' as it were, rather than as a reference to it having happened. In general I think we are pretty good at seeding stuff (like, I knew Maskim's family was abusive w/out having to be directly told, and that Leo's dad was at least emotionally neglectful/abusive) and also at portraying bad things as actually you know, bad

for instance if you were to reveal Maskim and Jorgenson were in a romantic relationship, I know the narrative around it wouldn't be 'and isnt that cute!!!' but 'and isn't that terrifying!!! what an unhealthy dynamic that will stay that way because the one with more power is uninterested in changing it!!! yikes!'

like when I see people on the one on one boards suggesting 'stalker/stalkee' as a romantic couple, I'm always like NOPE AHAHAHA no way buddy

also my therapist says giving my characters terrible backstories is a 'healthy coping strategy for exploring different reactions to trauma' SO THERE

honestly its great to have characters go thru terrible things and come out the otherside, I'm all about it

Oh man some of the romantic dynamics people look for on here make me go ‘yikes!!!’. But as a purveyor of super trashy romance novels I’m also just so used to it by now that my general reaction is just


Im not super comfortable with that sort of stuff either. Rose has very, very weird views on sex which I’ve hinted at in the past, which is definitely due to his upbringing, but nothing untoward will happen on screen. We are all about safe, sane and consensual in this house.

Also trying to imagine Jorgenson and Maksim together and I think I broke out in hives GROSS do not like that inequality in power nope. HOWEVER Alyx was not kidding when she said his clan is a trash fire his father was TRASH and his oldest brother is TRASH and neither of them have healthy relationships with partners which is why Maksim is VERY DOWN for this engagement because at least Alyx won't treat him like THAT (dang boyo, you need higher standards than "not absolute trash")

But we've all been rping together for actual YEARS so I've never been worried about how either of you approach things, ehehe. BUT seeing as we're talking triggers, I'll mention mine which is suicide. Like, I'm down for someone having it in their past as long as it's approached with kindness and understanding and not being done flippantly. basically if he was put into a position to hurt his own people he would have to be magically coerced or else its not happening

I recall you saying Maskim could hypothetically allow him to be more or less himself depending on the situation but it would take a lot of energy on maskims part unless Freddy was weak- Maybe it was initially easy to do cuz Fredrick had no understanding of magic, but fred's been getting a lot stronger as he comes into his magic and figures out how to fight back?

That could be another incentive to take Gigi from the crew of the Dragon in the first place- Fredrick isn't going to cooperate if you threaten him or the other fledglings with violence, but his little sister? He's not very good at deceit- If Maskim mentioned an Allarian princess might be in the area and have gotten captured, he probably did not do a great job at hiding his distress

(I think he would have guessed it was Gigi because he knows the kind of things she gets up to, but Freddy is a good brother and would be very concerned even about Lucille)

So maybe he's agreed to not fight Maskim and actually cooperate with him in an Eldergaardian-approved way to try and get Gigi back? Obviously he doesn't want her under Jorgenson's thumb BUT he doesnt really know that she WANTs to be where she is right now, so if Maskim promised that they would send her immediately to the capitol to wait out the war in a moderately-comfortable cell somewhere... he'd be on board to behave

Typically I was saying that they can't use their magic if they weren't turned properly

BUT

We could say that Maksim and Alyx had one of their typical fights, and Maksim was all "fine, next time I need a new one, I'll do it the *right* way and show her" and now regrets everything

OR we can be like, surprise fluke! This one has magic!

I am down for either of these things. But yes, Maksim is capable of influencing his intentions, but he's not super good at it (though, he's probably been using it on Jorgenson at least a little bit), and I am VERY MUCH down with Freddy fighting Maksim ehehehe. And promising such things that he has NO CONTROL OVER WHATSOEVER is definitely a thing Maksim would do because he is SO DONE with getting flogged because one fledgling has to be STUBBORN

I have decided because Eldergaardians being able to facetime each other is WAY too powerful that warding something to scry takes so much time and energy that it's a very *expensive* magic, and wards do wear off during use. So each item warded will have a finite number of uses, and only the top people have it. Astrid's dad gave her an itty-bitty mirror he warded himself for *serious occasions* and she'll use that because now she's freaking out.

So, for the next day, this is kinda what I was thinking, but please add your input!

They wake up, and there's changes of clothes and breakfast for them. Then, Astrid goes off to sulk because she's not invited (jk, she hates meetings anyway), and Gigi, (possibly Cyn or Rose or both?), Delilah?, Alyx, and Leo go to the morning meeting which is basically just where the clans joining the not-alliance introduce themselves and Gigi gives a small explanation of her vision for the not-alliance or whatever.
Then, they break for lunch. The vampires don't need lunch, but I figured our little group might all gather in a room to insult each other or something

THEN

Maksim and Lanea kick the door down and waltz in like the dramatic punks they are, grab Alyx and Leo because there needs to be a military vampire meeting RIGHT NOW

And Maksim points to Fredrick whom he left in the hall so Gigi wouldn't see him and is like, "Ta-dah!"

AND

CHAOS

Rose would likely not be there for talks but Cyn might. He is a scientist of a sort, after all. Rose and Astrid can hang out before shit gets Real.

Ehehehe, Alyx is secretly delighted that Leo offered to cuddle with her but she would never admit it. She's just gonna kinda be like, "fiiine". Plus she's gotta get this while she can because she's still going to try to ship Leo back to Allaria with Gigi. Astrid wants to push her bed to Alyx's and join in on this, but she doesn't want Rose to come running in again when it inevitably scrapes across the floor, so she's not going to do that.

We good to skip to the morning? Jones, would you like to open us up with your disaster scientist getting like three minutes of sleep? ;P

IF she is willing to forswear her connections with the eldergaardian military and anything she might have asked for on behalf of its personnel...'

aka If you want to sit in on what I'm up to then I get to tell Lucia who Astrid is

Though, Alyx is also still a bit... raw from what she learned, so she's going to be a little less stubborn (at first but certain people will bring it back out of her, lol)
