Futuristic The Travelers

When Daniel heard the voice of Sebastian came over the radio a flush crossed her face for a brief moment. She must have lost track of time, given that they were launching already. That being said, though, she did not want to be thrown into the equipment; though she had hoped to get at least a precursory look over the machinery before launch. Oh well, though, there would be lots of time to look it over in the near future she figured. After all, space was awfully big. Travelling, well, anywhere would take ages no matter the speed the ship traveled at, she figured. Time dilation might play a role at higher speeds, but, well... space was awfully big.

The engines started up as she began towards the door again, her stride quick and purposeful. For a brief moment Daniel glanced back, a hand going up to wipe a short stray hair out of her face. Grease from that morning smeared across her forehead as she sighed, rather wanting to watch them in action but knowing it was far from a good idea. Her head turned back around in front of her as she entered the hallway, her pace becoming a brisk jog. She had no idea how long the pilot would take to begin launch and really did not want to go flying through the hallway. Besides, her room was not too far away.

Once the doors to it opened with a gentle hiss of pressure releasing she slipped inside, quickly to avoid anyone potentially seeing into the pink room. She sat down on the floor, not sure just what launch would entail and not quite wanting to dirty her quarters with her still oil-stained suit. While she did not notice the smell right now she knew that if she got washed off and the odor was lingering in here she would notice it later on. Yet changing was far from a good idea, especially if she'd be sent flying during the middle of it... though if the pilot was good she would just be pushed back against the bed a bit. After all, somehow they were expecting all the various items and furniture in the ship to not go flying.

Noone grinned back to the navigator, as she pulled on her own straps before leaning forward and delicately placing her hands onto the blue HUD. At the moment of skin contact onto the cool surface, the lights faded as Sebastian turned off all the unnecessary systems, leaving the blue glow from the control system to fill the cockpit.

“Let's make sure we at least make it out of this solar system, yeah?" Sebastian’s voice sounded to her right, as the girl dragged her fingers cross some of the displays, soaking in all the information which flickered across the HUD.

“Aim further.” Fray’s voice finally replied as she glanced up at the man with a smile. “We’ll make it; we just need to take this as fast as possible.” She chuckled, as she swivelled back around to look through the rain splattered glass and up to the dark skies. “We have cloud cover which might, just, work in our favour.” Fray offered to no one in particular, meaning it more as an observation than conversation topic, before Fray flicked on the engines with a twitch of her thumb. At this, a steady hum began at the belly of the ship, rumbling through the metal and causing it to vibrate like a cat’s purr. Suppressing her nerves, Freya allowed this noise to drown out all the contrasting thoughts which had begun to nag at her as she sat forward and gently slotted her fingers into a slight depression on the board in front of her, while with her right hand she grabbed the wheel of the ship.

As her skin touched the impression, the surface began to glow, reacting to her pressure and beginning the launch sequence, as Sebastian gave the final signal. "Prepared for launch, Captain Noore. Let's do this.”

Nodding, Charlie allowed a smirk to pull at one side of her lips, as the warning lights around the roof outside sat began to turn on. The flashing light signalled the personnel still outside to evacuate the immediate area, whilst, as if the flashing lights weren’t enough of a warning a siren began to wail.

Beneath this monotonous tone, the ship’s hum grew louder as Fray pulled her hand from the impression and grabbed the control wheel, using a small button near her finger to revert power to the low thrusters below the ship, as the wails began to grow faster, counting down their launch. As this happened, the ship began to rise, slowly at first, as the weight of ship fought to remain grounded, before with a jerk, the landing wheels left the ground.

Sucking in her lips, Charlie’s grip tightened, turning her knuckles wight, as she flashed a sideway glance to Sebastian. Outside, heatwaves rippled off the ship, turning the tarmac soft as the ship continued to steadily rise. First by a meter, then 10, 20. So far, so good the young pilot thought, as she carefully monitored the level of the ship, pulling back against the natural curve to the left. Like she had thought, some of the sensors were off, but nothing she couldn’t fix later. Noting, with a smile, the radar display remaining clear of any warning signals , Freya gave a confident nod.

“Alright.” Freya said pulling up on the wheel and increasing their speed whilst she retracted the wheels with her left thumb and triggered the back thrusters with a sudden burst of power, causing the nose of the ship to point up and filling Freya’s vision with nothing but the heavy bellied clouds above. Naturally as this happened, Freya felt her weight shift in her seat, forcing her to lean back against her chair, before, with a smooth ‘swooping’ sensation in her stomach, the ship began its upward climb. The ground below falling away.

Around the crew, the ship’s walls began to shudder from the raw power now emitted from the thrusters, as their speed grew, building up momentum. “Hold onto your seat.” Charlie called over the roar, as she plunged the ship through the first layer of cloud. This resulted in a few minutes of poor vision, as water pelted against the glass hard, before just like someone turning off a switch, the water stopped. Outside, the ship’s skin glistened in sunlight which lay above the cloud cover.

“Steady. Keep going sweet heart.” Freya mumbled as she added more power to the back thruster and pushing them on at a faster rate. Aiming to break atmosphere soon as the ship pelted onward. At first the ship continued to rattle, groan and lurch, before briefly everything intensified, making Freya’s slam against her chest before they broke atmosphere entered into a world complete silence.

The shaking had stopped as the hull of the ship at last met no resistance in the vacuum of space.

“WOOOHOO!” Freya shouted, as the silence settled over the ship. Although her heart remained pounding in her ears. Glancing at Sebastian again, she winked. “Chart the jump now. Our exit will have been noticed. Let’s make it out of the solar system.”
