"Him? Nah, Dart left a little while ago." Bryant wrinkled his nose. "Phew, I'd know if Dart were here. Blood and rum. Don't need to see him to know where he is. Besides," Bryant winked ineffectually behind his tiefold, "I had to heal Dart a little while ago. And let's just say that I didn't dispel all the Hue." After a moment, Bryant pointed northwest said ponderously, "He's, uh... kind of over there. I think. Maybe."
"Well you sound quite sure of yourself" she giggled. "I'm not very experienced with my green magic to tell you the truth, I'm good enough to make small objects like a bow, but nothing bigger" she told him, not trusting him enough to tell him about her grey magic

"Green is a great Talent to have if you're travelling. I've often wished I could summon a shelter in a dust storm or have cooking supplies I didn't have to lug around." He leaned on the bar. "Hell, you might want to stick around the Academy if you want to learn more techniques." He frowned. "Though I think they're more interested in making their students into siege engineers than artisans."

"I'll learn more from travellin not to mention I practise all the time and I amm pretty sure i can manage a few pots and pats" she said with a roll of her eyes. "A shelter might be a bit much though.." She mumbled, a little embarrassed that she couldn't make one yet. "I'm sure orange comes in useful all the time though! You must be able to heal people for money and stuff"

"Precisely. That's how I make a lot of my money when I'm on the road. Lots of those little towns out there don't have good medical services, and mercenary companies are always looking for healers. Orange is a pretty lucrative talent if you play your cards right."

It's also great for conning. Calm people down with it, make 'em happy, they're much more pliable. But I'll keep that ace up my sleeve.

"You must be lucky" she giggled. "What age are you old man? Nobody young says when I was your age, thirties? Forties? Maybe even fifties! But even you don't look that old. I myself am sixteen with lots of experiences in a varying array of things, from survival to cooking, even fighting to an extent, I'm sure we will become great partners" she grinned

"Hey, I'm twenty three! Don't disrespect your elders, whelp! And heh, I think you're right. We'd make a good team." His easy grin became serious. "If we're really gonna travel together, let's put some rules down." He gestured with his mug. "You first."

"We share everything obtained, noone keeps more than the other" said with an equal amount of seriousness in her tone. "Your turn"

"Don't get into my business, my gear, or my personal space without permission. Emergencies notwithstanding. What else?"

"Same goes for you. Hmm..." She hummed for a moment, thinking over the next rule thoughtfully. "... No secrets, we tell eachother everything important, just in case"

Bryant raised an eyebrow. "Well... alright. Seems like the rest is just common sense, unless there's anything else you want to suggest. Don't stab my back, I won't stab yours, et cetera." He leaned forward and lowered his voice. "So, as for that no secrets policy... what does the barkeep want from you?"

"Nothing, apart from a few school uniforms for whatever reason. Now do you have any secrets? I have one more but I want to hear your first" she told him

"Sorry, but that's a little ambiguous." He shrugged. "I've got a lot of secrets. If you ask me something like that, y'oughta use specifics-- and don't expect me to spill my guts so easy. And you know, you're not obligated to share yours if you don't want to."

He chuckled, taking another swig of rum. "Sorry if I'm being cold. Actually..." He put his mug down. "What would you call an 'important secret?'"

"Mainly abilities and the like, and maybe some important information such as things relating to the people that own that college, the past is the past, so those kinds of secrets can stay dead" she clarified, looking at her cup a couple of times while she was talking but mostly looking at the man before her

"Fair enough. Let's see... I'm a damn good Orange Talent, and everything that entails. What I know about the Academy is mostly common knowledge-- a councilor is dead, Spectrum forces are being recalled from hunting slaz, and barkeep over there is probably up to no good. Dart and him have a history, which is its own web of lies... but you probably knew that already. Uh... hell, I dunno. You've probably been here longer than I have."

"Anything you know about Dart that I don't know? And I am also a grey talent" she said, pulling back her hair to show her strange grey eyes, the greyness seemed to meld in with the rest of her eye, making it seem like all she had was a black dot. "I cover it for two reasons... You can probably guess them both" she said as she let her hair drop back into place

I knew it! Ahh, haven't lost it yet.

"Yeah, I think I know what you mean." Bryant glanced towards the back where the door to the brothels loomed. "Well, he's Blackgaurd, and I'm pretty damn sure he's a Black/Red Talent. He's a fighter and a drunk, and like I've been saying, he knows the barkeep somehow. Dart seems pretty criminal for a guard in this prestigeous institution... I mean, there's not a lot of Blackguard out there in the first place, but why put him on guarding the prison? Dunno." Bryant chuckled. "I also know that coughing must hurt like hell for him right now."

She was pleasantly surprised he wasn't freaked out by her eye, most people had been before she had started covering it. "A black, red.... That's some deadly potential right there..." She mumbled. "He told me that all the people in the prison were already dead. Maybe he was put there because he's too dangerous? But if so, why would he be allowed to just walk about amd head into bars like this? I suppose the same goes for me too..."

"You're right... there's more to him than meets the eye, if you'll excuse the lame pun." Bryant adopted a worried expression. "Look, I'm uh... I'm part of the freaky eye club too. Sorta. One last caveat before you decide you wanna travel with me." He nervously took off the tiefold and his blitzingly orange eyes shone from the tavern's subtle gloom. "I'm no Slaz... but, um. I'm getting there."

"O-oh..." She mumbled, a little shocked that he was that experienced. "How much longer do you suppose you can hold out?" She asked calmly despite her heat thumping in her chest with a mixture of fear and worry. "And if so... I don't suppose Slaz's have much combat potential?" She asked, having never really paid attention during those classes

Bryant was blushing hard and probably trying to stay calm. "Uh... I'm not sure. It's... well, like I said, I'm not uh, that close to Slaz. Ostensibly. See, I don't use my Talent nearly as often as most other types, you know, like Green or Blue or Brown... but using Orange takes a lot out of you. If I watch myself, I can probably last until I'm thirty..." He chugged the last of his rum with nervous hands. "I don't like to think about it... I mean, I love wandering, you know? But I guess it's much better for me to Shatter in the middle of the Jalap instead of the middle of some town..." He ran a hand through his hair. "From what I've been told, Orange Slaz just... drain the life of everything around them. First it's just close range, like a few meters, but the more energy they consume, the farther their reach goes... and they get a taste for it." Bryant quickly retied the tiefold. "The blindfold helps keep too much light out of my eyes, hopefully slow the process down a little. Keeps out wind and sand, too."

He laughed nervously. "I was once a student here, about a decade ago. Sometimes I wish I stayed, found a better way to manage my Talent. But then I remember all the bullshit that goes down here, and all the good I've done by people out there, and it's worth it."

"So, uh... Do you feel safe, travelling with me?"

"Well.... Only if you only use your orange hue for absolute emergencies such as life or death situations, curing some wandering person with a broken leg? That's a nono, it may sound vicious, but he can crawl back to the nearest village, besides, I know a few tricks about healing myself... With medecine of course, not orange hue. So small cuts and bruises won't be a problem either. Stick with that and we'll be fine, I-I only really want you for company anyway..." She told him, her face going a little pink with embarrassment at the end, not that he could see.

"Well... alright, that's reasonable." Bryant smiled wanly at Lucy's utterance. "I mean, the little stuff doesn't really faze me, but I'm not going to try to reattach a limb or something." Bryant shook his head. "Point is, I can heal feet after a day of walking or clot a wound without really having to push myself-- it's kind of like changing the length of your fingernails with Gray. Pretty effortless, but I won't do it if it makes you uncomfortable."

He waved his hands around a little, as if shooing off misconceptions. "Look, I've been at this for quite a while. I know what I'm capable of."

"Every small thing that you think won't make the slaz come faster, is speeding the progress of it." She told him "it's not what you are capable of, I don't doubt your capabilities, just use it very sparingly, like if you didn't even have the power" she said, only hoping her wouldn't suddenly turn into a slaz while they were travelling somewhere together

"Gah, fine. You sound like..."

You sound like Sofia.

Bryant coughed. "Never mind. I'll be sparing, as you say. So," he said, slapping his hands together, "how're we gonna get out of here?"

Naff took a moment as he looked at Isolde, "nothing I can think of.. Just adhere to the rules and you should do fine" he smiled half heartedly before turning and checking in on another student.

"So many sit alone.." He mumbled as he walked off.

Dart was done in the laundry room, placing a number of uniforms out to be folded many times then put into a sack.

He stopped paying attention once he had to lift his helmet up to see more clearly.

Only servants doing laundry.. They flinch whenever a guard passes.

"Easy I'm just running a" what's the word? Shit "errand" he finshed..

The two men and three women looked at him with cautious fear.

"Orright look ere" dart untied a bag of the coin he took from the other room.

"You just did your jobs in here an no one saw anything" he started evening the coins out between the five. Noticing the orange strip of cloth tied to his wrist she approached him

"Ar-are you orange talent milord?" A woman asked, motioning a man forward he opened his mouth to show a sliced nub of what used to be a tounge.

"Fuckin ell" dart let slip "no I'm.. Not sorry.. If I was I'd try but.. That's.. Yea.. Shit no one can help that.. I'm sorry for this life we all live in" dart hugged the woman, who hugged back as the three held back tears.

After a uncomfortable minute dart was walking through the halls in a red uniform, his guard uniform folded as best possible in a sack dart carried over his shoulder walking about the halls.

He wiped his eyes with the other hand and thought of his own past,

Not a slave in this sense.. But trapped in other ways.

He got to the second floor common room and sat on his old bed til everyone else had left the room. Moving his old bed away from the wall and prying open a few stones in the corner left a small gap where a hidden box was, opening the box and taking out a pouch that straps to ones belt he opened it and did a count,

Should all still be there.. He started making it look like it did when he entered sliding the bed back into place walking out with the pouch in the bag he headed toward the town

The guard at the door let dart walk free, as he was a guard, and stood here while he ran to the toilet so they were cool.

Arriving at the pink silk he went in through the back door a woman unlocked it for him with a smirk.

"You only come at the last minute don't you"

"You'd love to find out" dart smirked back as he walked downstairs into Charlie's area.

Placing the bag out he took off his red uniform and started strapping his blackguard uniform back on.

"Charlie?" Dart called out "gimme a hand please?"

Charlie came out from a door to answer him,

"Of course sir" he started as he strapped the back part in where dart couldn't reach.

"And the uniforms sir?"

"I got most on the list,"

"And the other th-"

"No Charlie I couldn't, security is to tight"

"And the more recent th-"

"No there's none to save, any prisoners are usually just killed" dart trailed off, but picked his train of thought again. "Ima leave this stuff of mine here, like a safety pack"

"Very good sir, we also have a bit of stock down here"

"Aye but I'll take it when and if I need to"

Dart said walking upstairs to the main area.

"Very well sir.."

He closed the door to downstairs and spoke to the woman who let him in.

"Them two I was with, what's your take?"

"Badlands boy is just that dunno about his talent" she answered "girl is a decent grey I've heard"

"Orange is good, and unless that grey can be used on me I don't need it"

"You know that's possible" the woman teased.

"Shut up no way" dart left on that note, opening the door to main bar twirling a orange strip that surely looked familiar to someone.
