Fantasy The New Generation (Always Open)

Alec Sage
Sylar Pic.jpg
Tick...

Tick...

Tick...

The sound echoed throughout the small, cozy room that Alec Sage resided in. It wasn't his entire apartment he was in, but the room he was currently sitting in. He held up the wristwatch to his ear, his eyes closed in a form of peace, relaxation, and concentration. The watch itself was given to Alec by his father who, as Alec knows, died many years ago. Alec always kept the watch close to him, as it is the only thing he has from his dad. Because of this, Alec always preferred that the watch would be on the exact right time, or at least as close to that as possible. As he continued to listen with his eyes closed, the watch continued...

Tick...

Tick...

TicK...

There it was. The tiny flaw in the whole system that nobody else except for Alec could register, unless somebody came by with super hearing. However, this super hearing ability was in fact not what Alec had. No, he had something known as Intuitive Aptitude. In other words, the power to understand anything, even the most complex items such as a human brain or rocket ship, in a matter of seconds or minutes, the time being higher or lower depending on how complicated the object or living creature is. This was a quite powerful ability that was always useful both on and off of the field in a number of ways. However, at the moment, he was unaware of the mission that was about to take place, as he has been isolated in his home for quite some time. This was most likely due to the fact that he always liked to tinker with things, especially watches, in his spare time.

Alec, continuing to use his gift, had finally found the wrong he needed to right within his father's watch.

"One minute and 32 seconds off..." Alec muttered silently to himself as he opened up the back of the watch.

He changed a few things and tinkered with a few things on the watch before he finally set the time exactly right. He closed the watch back up as he put it around his wrist, making sure that it was snug before he got up off of the chair in his bedroom. There had also been a table there. Alec stumbled into the main living area and kitchen. Obviously, it wasn't anything fancy or big, but it was roomy enough for Alec to get around with ease.

As Alec began to get some breakfast ready, as he had recently been keeping leftovers from the mess hall, he noticed something in front of the door. He walked over, seeing that it was some sort of letter. He picked it up and tore it open. As he rummaged through the documents that were given to him, he realized quickly that a mission was about to take place at that exact moment.

"Perfect..." He mumbles sarcastically to himself as he rushes back into his bedroom to gather his gear.

He read that it was going to be a long mission, and that camping supplies were going to be required, or at least highly recommended. As Alec stepped into his room, he then proceeded to open a walk-in closet. He was lucky to have this closet, as he stored most of his gear in there. Not wanting to be late or miss the mission itself, Alec frantically rushed to get two large, black duffle bags. He then packed all of the gear he could in there including a special-ops type suit he had stolen from a Protector a while back, some weapons consisting of knives, firearms, and even a wrist crossbow that shoots sleeping darts. Alec had gotten, or, you know, stolen this stuff from Protectors, but he still took a little bit of pride in having the tactical equipment.

It probably seemed like overkill to bring all of this stuff on a scavenging mission in what Alec assumes is an abandoned hospital, but he wanted to be prepared for anything. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Finally, Alec had packed just about everything he had, and was ready to go. Currently wearing a black T-shirt and some jeans, he decides to quickly throw a black jacket on. He picks up his two heavy duffle bags, having to adjust himself a little bit to get comfortable with carrying them; It's not like he had super strength or anything. Having both of the duffle bags slung on each shoulder, Alec strained to get the mission documents that had been in his pocket. He unfolded them and scanned over them, easily memorizing all of the information on the pages in a matter of seconds thanks to his ability.

The smell of fresh air filled Alec's nose as he walked outside of the apartment complex he lived in. After about 10 minutes of walking, he finally approached the group.

'Horses... Fun.' Alec thinks to himself as he ever-so-slightly rolls his eyes. Of course he preferred it when they supplied gas-powered vehicles (cars) to them, but with it being only 25 miles and a simple scavenging hunt, supposedly it is a good idea, as it will save the New Generation gas and money.

Alec planned on greeting everyone individually, as he had gotten to know most of them a somewhat decent amount on missions and in the mess hall, but due to the amount of people already there, he decided to go with a simple-enough method, "Hey everyone."

With that, Alec chose the horse that looked in its best condition. After he had done so, he sat down his duffle bags beside him. He didn't want to strap the bags to the horse immediately, as it clearly wouldn't be necessarily calming for the horse to stand frozen, carrying a bunch of weight on him/herself. He then simply leaned lightly against the horse, awaiting the arrival of anyone else, if there even was anyone else that was destined to show up.

He couldnt help but grumble, shifting. These people dont realize what he really does here, do they? Seem to think he's some lazy...he growled, pushing himself up. The ground beneath his feet shifted, raising so he could easily throw his leg over the horse. He released afew curses, resting his hand on his pant leg. The fabric tightened to bind his leg. Hopefully, this will keep the wound from worsening. He let the horse settle, before looking among the group. "Im not saying im to busy, im just pointing out that unlike you lot, im not a fighter. Im a builder. I fix things. The fact that you want me to help search for something is idiotic, unless you want me going piece by piece through some building, witch, i might add, can take several days, to whole months!" He seemed to count on one hand, thinking it over"i say thats right. Done that more than once, i think. What do you expect me to do? Thats all im asking. No need to be rude about it"

Rosalie Lionheart

108cdaf6225fe6177a5f0d972ecee898.jpg

Rosalie was still in transit to the base when she received the notification with the mission specs. She let out a deep sigh when she saw the name of the other Protector that was going to be working with her. Caspian, or Psycho as most refer to him as, was one of the very few within the ranks who had a record as exceptional as hers. She was not exactly thrilled to be going on a mission with someone named Psycho, but they had blockers who could keep him in check if needed. She had been on a few missions with him, but there were not many high-profile assignments that require two Protectors of their caliber. He was her senior so she would still show him the respect that his time as a Protector granted him. As she got closer to the hanger, she made note of the civilians her passed her. Some smiled, unfazed by the long-range rifle she carried strapped to her back for assignments that required a sniper, others looked in curiosity. With the low crime rate, there was no need for civilians to carry or use weapons, so naturally some were curious about hers.

She entered the hanger to find their vehicle and blockers waiting, and Caspian leaning against the vehicle. She approached him, a slight smile on her face, “looks like we’re in for a fun assignment if they have the two of us on it Caspian.” She let out a small chuckle before slipping into the passenger seat. The assignment log did not have the full details, she assumed that she would be filled in with more details while there were in transit.

Marina:
As Marina made it to the meet up site, she took notice of two others who had already gotten there. A girl named Verity had arrived at the same time as Marina. The man who she remembered as Nicholas greeted them both at the same time. Marina gave a small smile and a little wave of her hand. She witnessed someone she had hardly seen before falling off a horse. Muttering under her breath, she moved over towards one of the horse's and put her hands on its back. Marina lifted herself up onto the back of the horse, and grabbed the reins. Hearing the man named Eric whining again, she sighed slightly. Why would he want to stay in a dreadful place like this when he could go out and experience other things? She watched quietly as Ghost started trotting at a normal pace, easily doable for these horses. She followed after her, closing her eyes for a second and taking in the smell of the outdoors.

(Sorry for the short post, I'm in a hurry :P)

As the last few people arrived, Nicholas nodded in acknowledgement at each of them. Most of them he recognized, particularly that one fellow, Kasch. He watched as the fellow swung up onto his horse smoothly and talked to a couple of the others. Nicholas had a grudging respect for Kasch, hell, he'd even helped teach him a few things when he'd been asked, as much as he sometimes disdained the rebels. He was one of those kinds that inspired new recruits, gave 'em someone to admire, and Nicholas liked having a guy like him around with a big group. But everyone knew about his past as one of the radicals, and as a merc to boot. It was hard to admire someone who'd knowingly killed innocents, no matter what his present was. Still, Nicholas got along well enough with Kasch.

As Ghost started trotting along, he and everyone else followed suit, and they moved along at a decent clip. He listened to that kid, Christopher. A memory replayed in his mind of Christopher being sent to him for training. He recalled how he'd whined about the smallest things. "Call me Eric," he'd said, and Nicholas just grinned in the fashion every long time student of his came to hate. "I didn't ask what to call you," he'd replied. "I asked what your name was." The kid had exasperatedly replied, "I just told you. It's Eric." Nicholas looked down at "Eric's" file in his hand; he'd already known the answer to his question. "No," Nicholas had said. "Your name is, according to this, Christopher. And that's what I'm going to call you." Christopher opened his mouth to begin speaking, but Nicholas held up a hand and spoke again. "It's your first lesson. You can't always get what makes you feel comfortable. It's why the Elder's are making me teach you how to keep yourself from dying when you inevitably end up on the wrong end of a Protector's gun." After that, Christopher had stopped complaining. In fact, he came along remarkably quickly, for someone never hoping to tangle with any kind of conflict.

Evidently, Christopher had not changed much since Nicholas had last been around him a few months ago. With an annoyed sigh, he spoke up. "What you're expected to do is exactly what the Elders, in all their infinite wisdom, have told you to, which is accompany your teammates and help secure the documents we've been sent after. If you believe this endeavor is a waste of your undoubtedly precious time, by all means, take it up with them. If not, I'd advise you to stop whining about it and either talk to your friends and teammates in a friendly, happy fashion, or continue the ride in stoic silence. I recommend the latter, it's excellent for mulling over how much better your time could be spent."

Nicholas thought over the kids words a bit, and he knew he had a decent point. They didn't need this many people for a mission as simple as this, as well as several high value operatives. If anyone would have heard if something was up, it would be Kasch.

"Kasch," Nicholas called, guiding his horse over to the broad brawler and speaking in a low voice, as he didn't want anyone getting nervous. "Have you heard anything about Protector activity around where we're going? If the Elders felt the need to send you, Ghost, and this many high value operatives to do a simple mission like this, something has to be up."

Yeesh. Tough crowd. Apparently his words had been taken offensivly. Not what he had intended. Should he apologize...not now. Probably just upset them more.
He grumbled, listening to the words of his...instructor, and shook his head.
"Yeah boss. I got it..." the fact that he would actually listen to nicholas showed some respect for the man. May it be out of fear, or some other reason wasnt clear, even to eric himself. But he wouldnt go against he man. Not today atleast.
Nicholas was the only one here who had truely seen him in combat, and he would rather keep it that way. He didnt like to fight. And for good reason.
"either talk to your friends and teammates in a friendly, happy fashion, or continue the ride in stoic silence"
He repeated in his mind
Looks like stoic silence it is. He didnt see this group as friends. As far as he could tell they didnt find him too apealing either. He grumbled, and shook his head, bring the animal to a trot as he moved to follow the group.

Alec Sage

As more and more people began to jump up on their horses and trot away, Alec reached down to grab his two bags. He then proceeded to strap each bag on each side of the horse. Finally, he jumped up, trying his hardest to ignore the high school drama going on between Eric and well, what seemed to be just about everyone else. Although, most did have legitimate points, as Eric did seem to be whining a little bit. However, Alec was also aware that Eric was basically the handyman of the place, and that fighting on the field wasn't exactly his specialty.

Alec turned the horse around as he began to follow along with the rest of the group.

KASCH HARDT REINHARD
He knew full well why some despised him. Kas wasn't proud of some things he'd done. But he'd seen them as necessary, for taking a life has become a simple, trivial matter. Understanding how fragile life was, to the point where flesh became fragile and bones brittle. His hands stained with blood of more than one murder. Yet he still found the time to smile with cold, hard ambition. For a few moments, his dark irises clashed with Nicholas'. A mentor and trusted colleague, but perhaps not what he'd call a friend to be quite exact.

Nevertheless, thoughts and conversation were disrupted with Ghost's call to move on, and her bitter thrown words toward Eric or rather, Christopher. Spurring his horse into a trot, Kasch paused to twist about and observe Nicholas pulling up his horse. "The medical records are being sought after by the protectors too, I'm afraid. As far as I know, there hasn't been any protector activity. Unfortunately, that might not be for long." Reinhard replied, drawing a hand over his lightly bearded chin, creating a rough sound of calloused hands on stubble. Keeping his voice low enough that picking up on it would be hard without evidently eavesdropping. "But that's all I've managed to glean. The Elders are a tight-lipped bunch. Not sure if I like the idea they could have ulterior motives, however, that's just my own blasphemous opinion." Clicking his tongue, Kasch's lips curled into amusement. "Must be serious to drag you out of teaching. Those kids I'll bet are devastated to see you leave." He drawled, in heavy sarcasm.

Alas, the mission did seem odd. Kas was used to being put on hunting detail, or just plain old murder when it came down to it. Sorting out the rebels and radical factions due to being known and respected. Helping out with lessons if truly necessary. Even if he got a little violent when they began smartassing him purposely. Retrieval, on the other hand, was a most foreign concept.

Jacqueline Peters
She wasn't really paying attention as they moved out, staying at the back of the group, watching the others. But she was more involved with her thoughts. What were they even doing out here? She could hear the whispers from up front, but nothing she could make out. It was obvious however, they were looking for something. Which wasn't particularly odd for her, Jackie normally went on missions like this. Small team, outside the city, bring back cool stuff they needed. Simple, but this was a bigger team. What was so important? Jackie couldn't help but wonder, and in doing this, she zoned out while somewhat staring up front. Maybe she was trhibg to read lip. It wasn't working, and she quickly snapoed out of her little trance, going back to being quiet, and just looking around.

With the order from Ghost to move, she slung her leg back over her horse with grace. Verity clicked her tongue, her horse trotting along with the others, nearing the front of the bunch. She closed her eyes and inhaled the fresh air, a small smile creeping onto her lips. It seemed like she had been stuck in her room forever, and she was finally glad to see something other than slate grey walls and cold floors. Leaving that place gave her purpose; something other than mourning the loss of her brother. He had been by her side since day one, even more powerful than she. He was a joy to have around, and an extremely fast learner. Even though he was two years younger, she strove to be like him. His fate never quite gave her closure, but she could only presume the Protectors had killed him. It was a similar mission to this, but she was much different now. Her heart had grown cold; the only thing she loved was taken from her. Opening her eyes, they fell upon Nicholas. She remembered how much Sev had loved him, seeing him as a fatherly figure. She sighed softly, casting her gaze forward.
Whilst in her thoughts, she hadn't been paying much attention to anything around her. The thoughts of what had really happened to her brother plagued her daily, the main source of her headaches. With that, she locked eyes with Eric, a ping of regret echoing throughout her. She didn't talk to these people often, and that was fine, but she was going to be with them for at least the next 72 hours, and she was rather rude to him. She shook her head, sighing again.
What are you doing?
She found herself thinking as she slowed her trot to the pace of Eric, looking down. How would she even go about this? She continued to open her mouth, but closed it soon after, the words not forming. She probably looked like a fool, or a fish, one of the two or even both. Head still down, her eyes moved to look at him. He was older than she, just as everyone else in the group was. Her birthday was coming up, but she hardly paid any attention to that anymore. It wasn't important, and it's not like she cared enough to get to know anyone that would care to remember.
Clearing her throat, Vi lifted her head and looked at him again, sincerity replacing her once sarcastic tone.
"Hey, listen. I'm sorry for earlier, ya? I'm just not used to this stuff," she let out another sigh. "You are just as important to this mission as I, so just ignore my words from earlier." She smiled at him, her small hand reaching out for a handshake.

To be honest, eric was shocked. He never expected anything of this sort from Verity of all people. He had always seen her as someone who held herself so high. Honestly, he thougth she saw him beneath her...
He let his eyes flick between her and her hand. Maybe he had been wrong...
He gave a sigh, and gently pressed his hand atop hers, refusing the handshake.
"You have no reason to be sorry. I wasnt thinking. Really, i should be more carful with my own words. Thank you for the apology, but its me who owes one, not you. I guess im just...scared of what might happen. They wouldnt send this large of a group on a gathering mission unless they...expected something to happen. Im just worried people might get hurt, and i know i cant do much to stop it..." he gave another sigh, shaking his head."thank you, though. Really. It means alot..."

Avery Lincoln AKA Ghost

The noises of the people behind her caused a tingle of envy through her heart. They all could get along so easily, but Ghost was almost always out of the loop. She didn't blame them though, Ghost had the reputation of being rather quiet, and sometimes rude. Ghost didn't want to be that way, but being treated as a leper had the tendency to do that to people.

Closing her eyes as a brush of wind flows through the forest, she leans back in the saddle, trying to relax herself. They were in the no man lands right now, and all of them could be relaxed, there was no chance of being attacked here.

The slow trot of the group gave Ghost much to think about. Like this mission. She knew these medical records were very important, they had information on the old protectors and the New Generation, not that the others knew that. They were heading into a high conflict area, and she felt strange keeping some of this from the others. A need to know basis though. On top of all that, why was she the leader of the group? There were many more qualified people in this group than her, maybe it was a way for the Elders to gauge her.

"Don't lie to yourself Avery." A voice whispers through her head, causing her body to lock up. What was he doing in her mind now, at a time like this. "You have me, that's why they put you in charge. Come on, just let me take over and everyone will love you again, you will be accepted." Taking a deep breath Ghost closes her eyes, slowly pushing the voice out of her head. It took her a couple of minutes to build back up her mental defenses, blocking her off from the world of the dead. A shiver courses up her spine at the thought of how easy it was for him to break into her mind again.

They were a couple hours into the walk when Avery slows her horse down again, next to a little river running through the forest. "We need to stop and water the horses, take this time to stretch your legs out." She calls to everyone as she jumps down, stretching her arms above her head.

-----

Caspian/ Psycho

A smirk plays across his lips as his teammate comes into view, so it was this Rose. Moving out of the way so she has access to the passenger seat whenever she wanted to leave, he runs a hand through his blonde hair. "Oh I promise you, it will be a very fun assignment." A wicked grin steals it's way on his face, as he slides around to the driver's side, loading up.

In front of them the other armored vehicles begin to move. There were normal soldiers going along with, the only protectors being Caspian and Rosalie. Not bothering to buckle up, Caspian types in the coordinates into their vehicles, a cool air flowing out of the vents. Pushing on the gas lightly, the man keeps his posture relaxed and playful.

"So I haven't seen you lately. Any fun missions?" He casts his eyes over to her, the smile still on his face. Caspian was always considered a flirt, but he couldn't help it, he did love a pretty face.

They have to take an underground path outside of the hanger, keeping their coming and going away from the public. It made people feel uneasy seeing a revenue they had learned a long while ago. The change from the dark tunnels to the bright light of a desert doesn't faze Caspian like a human would, the implant kept that from happening. They were superhumans after all, the light changing suddenly wouldn't make them any less.

Vi smiled at him. She couldn't lie to herself, she was scared too. Well, scared wasn't the word. She was more worried for the sake of the others, she didn't quite care much for her own well being. Ever since Sev, she prioritized the safety of their small town and pushed herself as hard as she could to get things done. That's why she snapped at him before, it irked her more than anything to see any form of laziness. Snapping herself from her daydream, she didn't know quite what to do. She definitely wasn't used to contact with others, especially comforting someone. She closed her eyes and thought for a moment, the warmth from his hand making her skin tingle. Opening her eyes again, she linked her fingers with his and held firmly. It was the least she could do at this point.
"Don't you worry. Bigger numbers means whoever tries to oppose probably won't mess with us. Plus, Ghost is a great leader, she knows what she's doing," with that, Ghost had called to water the horses. Had they really been riding that long already? Lost track of time, yet again. She let go of Eric's hand and hopped off her horse.
"And another thing, I won't let anything happen to you." She smiled up at the first person she had made even a slight connection with in years, stretching and wincing as her back popped. She always felt riding was a pain, but it got the job done in the end, and it definitely wasn't as loud as taking vehicles.

As Nicholas listened to Kasch's reply, he couldn't help but to agree. "No, as rare as it is that you and I agree, you're right about the Elders. In my...considerable experience, they play the long game, whatever that may be. For the sake of the younger ones here, let's hope they've thought this one through." When Kasch continued with a smile and a tone dripping with sarcasm, Nicholas couldn't help but to laugh. "Oh yes, I'm sure they'll be terribly bored without me. A group of hormonal teenagers in a city with practically no rules? They're surely incapable of entertaining themselves. I don't know how you managed it."

Then, out of the corner of his vision, he noticed Ghost tense up. He recognized that reaction, recalled it from her days as his student. However, he didn't react, knowing she was perfectly capable of handling herself. He kept an eye on her, though.

As they trotted along a bit longer, Nicholas cast his eyes towards Christopher. Admittedly, he'd been rough on the boy, but it was what he had needed. But, to his mild surprise, he saw Verity go over and begin talking to him. And then, even more surprisingly, he saw Christopher take the hand she offered, and saw her entwining their fingers. Good, he thought to himself, the slightest of smiles coming over his face, they could both use an ally. He wasn't sure whether or not Verity would notice, or whether or not his approval as a teacher would matter, but he gave her the slightest nod. Kindness was in short supply these days, and they only had so much to spare. He knew how much it mattered.

Then, he heard Ghost call for them to stop and water the horses. He followed her lead, jumping off his horse and guiding it to the edge of the water. Then, he turned back to Ghost, approaching her as she stretched. Keeping his voice low, he spoke. "Ghost, are you here?" It was a failsafe, a memory from when he'd trained her. If she started fighting the...spirits she dealt with, he'd ask that to make sure she was okay. Almost always, she was. She was strong, and Nicholas admired her for that. Only twice had the answer been no. Neither event had ended well. Then, louder but still quiet so no one would be too suspicious, he continued. "Do you know why the Elders sent this many people on a mission like this? You know they'd rather see a squad of Protectors on their doorstep then send me out when they didn't have to."

The teen couldnt help but sigh, and nodded. They protect their own...
A shiver crept up his spine as he felt her hand curl around his. He let his eyes lay on their intwined hands, and he gave a smile. It was nice, having someone to talk to.
The ride was peaceful, and really, it hadnt felt they had road as long as they had. When she released his hand, he couldnt help but frown at the coolness of the air against the revealed skin, but nodded. Horses needed a drink anyhow.
He moved to get off, but he ended up clumsily falling to the ground yet again.
Was the entire trip goig to be like his? If he tried to hold his weight on his leg, he would fall, but if he tried to hoist himself up, his leg would buckle beneath him. This would be iritating,to say the least.
He groaned, pushig himself to a stand as he brushed the dust from his backside. He patted the horse's hindquarters, shaking his head ad he looked about the area.
"Spend so much time in the city, you can forget how calm it can be out here..."

Magnus had been up and moving since dawn. His 'home' as one might call it wasn't much. In fact the place where he laid his head was constantly changing in an effort to avoid that accursed teacher Nicolas. The last thing Magnus wanted to do was learn how to use his power. After all the effects of it was clear as day. The apartment he had stayed in last night was a temporary one and as such was one of the more decrepit ones. With vines crawling along the walls and a few large holes in the walls it was anything but safe. In fact it looked like a stormy night away from collapsing, but that's the way Magnus liked it. Surely Nicolas wasn't going to find him here.

As much as he tried to avoid other people Magnus did have to keep returning to a single apartment so that he could be contacted. However he had gotten there much later than usual because he had gone hunting. Hunting was one of the few things he enjoyed doing in Briskly. It gave him good food and satisfied that... other more primal part of his mind. That was another reason Magnus had been avoiding Nicolas. The last thing he wanted to do was loose himself and end up hurting a high ranking person like the teacher.

When Magnus finally got back from his hunting and kicked open the door of his actual apartment he noticed a few things different. There were some parchment on the tore up couch and the hole in his ceiling had been fixed. Magnus had talked to Christopher about that hole maybe a week ago and had figured it would have taken a lot longer to fix. Granted it wasn't a big hole but still.... Magnus sighed dropped his quarry on the floor in front of the couch and flopped on the couch with a sigh.

With his one good arm finally free from the burden of carrying that weight Magnus fumbled with the parchments to read them. One was a note from Nicolas telling Magnus that he was expected to be at the next training session and then gave a time and a place. That one was a few days only looking at the date. The other one was about a mission.... wait a minute what?

Magnus had been here for three years and never once had he gotten something like this. He had assumed it was because he hadn't gone through Nicolas's gauntlet of teaching and tried to keep it that way. Apparently he had been wrong about that. All the parchment said was that someone named Ghost was leading and then a time and place. Magnus had to double check the time that the parchment said. His pale eyes read over it two three times before it sunk in. He was late. He had only heard rumors about Ghost and none of them were good. The last thing he needed to do was get on her bad side.

Muttering curses to himself Magnus got up and the few belongings he always took with him: change of clothes, a few bottles of water, and a water resistant coat he had... borrowed during his time in the city. As Magnus all but bolted out of his apartment he caught his own reflect in a shattered mirror. His dark skin all but repulsed him not to mention to strange markings that had appeared on his useless left arm. It was a a physical reminder of his mistakes. Had he just listened to his parents all those years ago maybe he wouldn't have had to run back then.

While he was looking at his skin Magnus looked down at his clothing and hair. His cloths weren't that great a white button up tucked into a pair slacks. He had stolen the clothing from some rich guy before coming to Briskly. It wasn't optimal for a mission but it was what he had. His dark hair was an absolute mess. He hadn't cleaned or messed with it in days so it was pretty much everywhere.

Magnus snapped out of his wallowing in the past and bolted out of his apartment with his few belongings. He took him far longer then he had carried to admit to find the designated meeting place. He didn't travel much, but it was hard to miss the giant tree which served as a marker. By the time Magnus had gotten there there were people about to take the last horse back to where ever they kept them, and were only stopped by Magnus' shouting. They were surprised to see him but immediately helped him get ready. They pitied him about as much as they were intrigued by him. After how was he going to get his bag on the horse with one arm? How was he going to get on the horse in his state? Magnus could feel their pity as they unnecessarily helped his depart. With a small smile and a wave Magnus was off in a full gallop in an effort to catch up.

As Magnus traveled to catch the others his mind wandered to more darker thoughts as it was usual to do at this point. Fantasies breaking those men who had helped him flashed through out his mind. He could almost hear the sounds of bones breaking and blood curdling screams of pain as their own shadows wrapped attacked them. Shadowy hands starting at the feet would make their way up. First dislocating the arms before crushing the kneecaps, and then-

Thankfully Magnus' deranged fantasy was put to a stop as he saw the group already watering the horses and walking about. How long had he been out of it? Magnus shook his head and decided not to think about it. Magnus managed to clumsily of off his horse and lead it to the others, before making his way straight to Ghost who he had heard always wore a mask.

Magnus smiled nervously and he introduced himself to her, " Sorry I'm late... I was out hunting and didn't the orders until it was too late." Magnus looked towards the others in a group in an effort to avoid eye contact with the masked leader. He had vaguely heard of some of them, but the one that surprised him the most was Nicolas. What was he doing here?! The was the last thing Magnus needed right now!

Avery Lincoln AKA Ghost

At Nicholas's voice coming from behind her, Ghost tenses up, but this time it wasn't because of a spirit. It was from the memories Nicholas brought with those words. She should have known that her mentor would have picked up on the little issue before. "Yes it is me." Her voice comes out soft as she closes her eyes, letting the wind blow through her hair and over her skin. She hated that her and Nicholas had to have this little safe word in case Ghost had lost control and he needed to get her away from the others and deal with it.

A long time ago when Ghost had lost control for the second time in front of Nicholas she had sat on the floor crying softly, her body aching. She had looked up at Nicholas through her mask, her purple eyes dulled behind her eye slits and she begged him. "Nicholas please, if I ever lose control like that again and put anyone at risk, please kill me. Please." She hadn't let him respond, she had already gotten back up and pretty much ran out of the room they were in. That was the last lesson she had before the Elders sent her on her first mission and the last time she went back for training.

As Nicholas voices his second question Ghost turns to finally look at him. "Walk with me a little." She didn't want any of the others to hear them, this was highly confidential information and she was only comfortable letting Nicholas know of it.

Placing her hands behind her back she strolls away from the group, farther into the forest before she begins speaking. "We are going to a high risk area. There is no doubt in my mind that there will be fighting. We are searching for the New Generation's genetic coding. This town has been crumbling and in ruin for years, but it was once used as the place that the old protector's were created, and where their kids were born. The Elders insisted that the protector's had gotten wind of it just as the Elders did."

Before Magnus had even reached the group, the horse's gallop could be heard through the forest coming close. Reaching up behind her, Ghost grabs onto the handle of the sword, advancing slowly, the conversation with Nicholas temporarily forgotten. Inching through the forest she finds the gray dark skinned boy dismounting, and she drops her hand from the sword. The adrenaline that was pumping through her body just a moment ago doesn't leave her, but lessons, letting anger to push its way into the fight or flight response. Clenching her fists tightly she looks over at Nicholas. "He is your student. You can scold him if you so wish." Storming over to her horse, she jumps back up onto it. "We will be leaving in five minutes, be ready."

Vi was taken back by him stumbling off of his horse. What was wrong? Was he hurt? She felt her stomach tighten as she walked back over to him Whatever had gotten into her, she didn't like it. She stroked her mare, watching her drink for a moment whilst tapping her foot. She turned to look at Eric again, but was cut short by the sound of approaching footprints. Her eyes flashed a soft red and her chest tightened, her fingers twitching. Seeing it was just Magnus, she dropped her guard and sighed. Was she always this much of a nervous wreck? She scolded herself under her breath and walked over to Eric again, her eyes traveling to his leg. "Aye, Erickson, you alright?" her cheeks were flushed with a soft pink as she asked, almost embarrassed. "Either that or you're just clumsy, maybe?" What came out of her mouth seemed rather rude, but she meant it as a sincere question. She definitely wasn't used to interaction, and caring for someone wasn't her forte. If he wasn't okay, what could she even do? Hell, maybe her powers could do anything, if she knew how to use the damned things.
The only time she had ever been able to put them into play, was when Sevren was captured. In a fit of rage, she had tried killing the Protectors who had grabbed him, only successfully blinding one of them. Blood manipulation was an extremely hard and exhausting power. They were one in a million; extremely rare. Most were killed off rather easily considering the difficulty of mastering it, but her brother was a natural. That day, they were on a mission together, another retrieval mission from the Elders. Being caught by the Protectors, much of her group was captured or killed. Before she even knew it, her brother had been shot. Many recount her reaction, though she didn't remember anything at all.
Shivering out of her memory, she refocused on her companion. Her neutral expression didn't match the concern in her voice as she walked towards him with her hands resting behind her head. When he had explained what happened, she couldn't help but roll her eyes again. How can one person be so... She shook her head with a sigh and spoke again.
"Is it really that hard to be careful? We need you, yanno?" She blushed again, mumbling the last part of her sentence. With the command from Ghost, she nodded and helped him onto his horse so he wouldn't fall off again and swung herself back onto hers.
As they began to move, she found her gaze onto Nicholas again. God, Sev had loved him so much, and she remembered Nicholas not taking his death well. She was only 12 when it happened, and he was only 10. As the years passed, her lessons with Nicholas had become shorter and shorter, her progress seemingly coming to a halt as she had no motivation to continue. It made her wonder why they even chose her for this mission.

He grumbled, giving a glance to the source of his aid. He nodded, testig his leg"'m fine. Just alittle sore. I wasnt being careful last night, and had abit of an accident. Think I might have sprained my ankle or something. Minor, but still hard to put my weight on it. Im sure it will pass."
He ran a hand through his hair, taking a breath. He couldnt help but notice she seemed abit...flushed. odd. Maybe he should be the one checking on her...

His thoughts were interupted by Ghost informing them they would leave soon. Verity offered to help him back up on the horse, and honestly he eanted to decline, but he couldnt just say no.

Abit embarrassing to have someone help a groan man on the horse, but its what had to happen.

He decided to bring his mount next to the woman who, for some odd reason, had decided to give him abit of attention today. It was a odd...but pleasant, change in pace...
"Hey, uh..verity. you feeling alright. Ayou seemed alittle flushed a moment ago. You not running a fever or anything, right?

Rosalie Lionheart

108cdaf6225fe6177a5f0d972ecee898.jpg

Caspian’s grin made Rose a little uneasy. She hoped that he could control himself enough to keep maybe one of the rebels alive for questioning. The vehicles took off from the hanger and down a tunnel that led outside the city. Her eyes adjusted immediately to the change in light. She had pulled her cover off and slid some of her hair behind her ear when she heard Caspian address her. She couldn’t help but smirk at the hint of flirtation in his voice. Psycho didn’t stand a chance. She was accustomed to the advances of men who didn’t know who she was when she was outside of uniform, but he knew full well, and unlike the others his confidence was not going to diminish. ‘It’s going to be a long drive, I’ll humor him.’
She played coy and smiled, “You get all the fun missions, that’s why I’m so happy to be assigned to one with you finally.” She tilted her head slightly, letting her dark hair cascade down from its secure place behind her ear. Probably wasn’t the best idea to toy with a guy named Psycho, but she assumed he knew she was joking.
“Care to fill me in on the details of the assignment?”

As Nicholas first spoke to Ghost with his question, he noticed her tense up once again, and waited tentatively for her soft answer of, "Yes, it's me." Part of him felt sorry for bringing bad memories back to her, but he couldn't risk her safety, or the safety of the group. Grateful, he replied, "Good. Let's walk." He was almost surprised to hear the subtle care in his voice. It wasn't common for him to express affection for...anyone really. Then again, he had taught her for quite a long time.

Nicholas listened carefully as they walked, and a dark expression came over his face. "Ah..." he said, the annoyance in his voice evident, "How kind of the Elders to inform me of the nature of this mission." Then, resignation replaced frustration as he let out a sigh. "Well, in that case, I'm glad we have so many good fighters." He gave Ghost a look, and the question resided on the tip of his tongue. He did not often ask people if they needed help. In his opinion, trials dealt with on one's own create a stronger person. But this time, he wasn't sure. Nevertheless, he bit back his query.

Soon, as they approached their friends once again, he saw Ghost grab the hilt of her blade, and for a moment he didn't realize why. Then he heard the galloping of a horse. He reached for the pistol as his belt, holding it's grip anxiously. But when they arrived, it was something even worse than enemies. "MAGNUS," Nicholas roared, now in full-on harsh teacher mode. He heard Ghost say something, but he ignored her, marching forward towards Magnus. "I'VE LOOKED OVER THE ENTIRE GOD-FORSAKEN CITY OF BRISTLY FOR YOU!" He yelled angrily, but he collected himself, reeling back in, but still continued quite loudly. "I know full well you keep coming back to that decrepit apartment of your's, or else you wouldn't have gotten the notice for this mission! You've seen my letters! I have a half mind to take you off this mission right now and go to some nice, secluded spot in the woods where I can torture you for two months to make up for the time you missed! Hell, part of me is seriously considering putting you in the damned capital! Having a squad of Protectors gun you down might make you wish you'd shown up!" After a moment, Nicholas stepped back and just sighed, the anger draining from him to be replaced by apathy. "Whatever. Be it on your own head. If you suddenly decide you want lessons, you know where to find me." Walking back to his horse, he hopped on, spurring it to start back on their path.

Magnus couldn't help but flinch at Nicolas' yelling and the invasion of his personal space. Once the shouting stopping and turned to more of shouting Magnus was able to compose himself and actually listen to what his.... passionate teacher was saying. " I haven't been going to your lessons because I don't want to control my ability. I learned enough to suppress it during the years I had to fend for myself and that's all I care to know." Magnus said staring Nicolas in the eye but his voice was trembling with a mixture of fear and anger.

Magnus quickly attempted to leave his teachers presence and return to his horse. The aggression Nicolas had just demonstrated was playing havoc with Magnus's mind. One part was reminded of his father who had scolded him for using his power. The other part wanted to use that power to horribly maim Nicolas in a fit of rage. What Magnus wanted to do was to get away before he did something he would regret.

" I apologize for my absence..... it won't happen again." Magnus told Nicolas as he better gained control of himself. It seemed like the best thing he could do to defuse the situation was to attend a lesson or two. After all Nicolas was probably more concerned than he was angry. So maybe he wouldn't force Magnus to use his abilities.

Magnus had an easier time getting on his horse the second time around. Once he was mounted up Magnus would fiddle with his left arm a for a moment, putting it into a sling. After all he couldn't have it hanging free should a combat situation arise.

Avery Lincoln AKA Ghost

Ghost was sure that the entire forest could hear as Nicholas scolded one of his many students, his anger was enough to simmer her own, and to even bring a small smile to her lips. If she closed her eyes she could go back to a time where that was her in Magnus's position. She used to also believe that since she could just block the voices she didn't need to master the power that plagues her; oh was she wrong. It took her a very long time to realize that if she just suppressed her powers then she would lose control at the worst times. She wanted to tell Magnus all of this, and much more of what she has learned, but she was almost sure that he wouldn't want to hear it. He would have to figure this out on his own.

Kicking her horse forward, Ghost settles into the saddle the path through the forest a simple one. Every once in awhile she would pull out a very old gps system that the government wouldn't be able to pick up, and thus was safe for them to use. When the coordinates read what she was waiting for, she gently moves her horse to the side. "Kasch, Nicholas could you two take the lead? Just head straight ahead. There is a town off to the side, I need to scout it." Jumping down she holds out the reigns to her horse for one of the men to take for her. "Verity please dismount and come with me." Turning away from the group, on silent feet as if Ghost was an actual ghost she disappears through the dark canopied forest. She wasn't sure why the Elders wanted Verity to scout the first town with her, but Ghost wasn't much to question the elders.

Caspian AKA Psycho

He felt a little giddy at Rose not shying away from him, and instead joining in with his flirtation. It wasn't as if he wanted her to like him, he just liked playing games; and he found women protectors were the best to play games with. "I'm sure such a pretty girl like you would never like to get your hands dirty with what I do." This was dripping with sarcasm, he knew Rose was just as dangerous as him, more so in some ways.

"Hmm I guess if you want to bore yourself with the details, go right ahead." Without taking his eyes off of Rose he easily maneuvers the road while also swiping the electronic device on his wrist, sending the file he was given to her. "We are retrieving top security files, and for certain the new gen losers will be there too. High conflict, and high reward as I see it." He shrugs finally turning to look back at the road, before talking again. "We have a stop the night before, we are supposedly picking up a suspected new gen child and sending one of our men in a car back to the capital. Though that isn't really that important to know. There are two buildings that the files could be in, and we don't know which one. Though the general thinks the new gen does for some reason. So we are going to stay back and watch them, then grab the file and some of them when they come out."

Cicili Ode Issa
Cicili had been left behind by the group, although she knew not intentionally. She was pulled aside by one of the leaders as they were a bit worried with her going on a mission with others. Cicili tended to get a little to excited and thus there were problems that all to often arose. Her attempt to asure them were shot down but they let her go. She was younger than most in the group and with that meant she was less experienced than most.

Finally she managed to pull away from the the overbearing leader and headed towards where the horses were stored. She just wanted to go, as she knew the group was far from near. Heaving her bag on its back and securing it Cicili was finally on her way. Going as fast as she could she followed the map she was given. Although she should have been paying attention as branch after branch kept smacking her in the face. "Fudge Balls." She muttered as she attempted to sheild her face.

She could hear the distant sounds of people speaking. Slowing down her horse she could see figures in the distance, a smile lit up on her face as she got closer. "Seems I made it just in time." She chirped as everyone came into view. Finally she came to a complete halt, dismounting from the horse before she walked towards them. "I was ah...held up with some work...thingys." It was quite obvious she wasn't giving the whole truth, although she didn't think telling them she was late because she was being worried over and was treated like a child. So she was all smiles and giggles till further notice.
