The Hanyo and the Miko

"AGH!" Inuyasha's voice cried out as he slammed into the ground. As the Miko and her friends ventured into the forest, a loud thud was heard somewhere behind them, meaning that the sit command worked, of course. "I think you may have just set back his recovery by a day or two, Kagome," Miroku divulged, giving a nervous glance at the village. Up ahead, it appeared that Dākuemōshon had indeed gone this way. There was a trail of carnage left in his wake, which had uprooted several trees from the ground. Those that had not been destroyed looked frail, as well as the grass, similar to the effect that Naraku's miasma had upon nature.

Kagome had thought that prior to her giving the command. "I had to do it to keep him from Tessaiga!" She needed as much help as she could get right now. "Dakuemoshon must have been through here. Either him or Koga and I doubt it was Koga." She tried to sense Dakuemoshon nearby already. "Inuyasha! Go back to the hut or I'll do it again!" She warned, running toward the enemy's direction. Sango gazed intensely into the trees, then followed Kagome. "He's got to be close." Her brother and the fox demon followed her as well. "Miroku, who's watching the twins!?" Sango had forgotten all about that. "What kind of mother am I?!"

"A rather forgetful one it seems, Yokai Taijiya," an ominously patronizing voice suddenly spoke. It was recognizable as the monstrous creature that had attacked the village earlier. An odd noise rang from within the trees, follow by the sudden appearance of... D?kuem?shon? He didn't look like the demon they had seen earlier, but there was no doubt that his aura was just the same. However, he appeared... human. With the exception of his eyes, which were scarlet, he was virtually entirely different from the demon. Perhaps, similarly to Sesshomaru and some other demons, he not only had a demonic form, but a humanoid one as well.

"You have come in a feeble attempt to stop me, have you not?" He asked, sounding amused. "Worry not, I'm not going to kill you, yet anyway. Do humor me for a bit..." The Chaotic Demon gave a swift glance in the direction of the village., making a gesture.

Meanwhile...

Inuyasha had reentered the hut, cursing furiously under his breath. Now he was in even MORE pain just because of that sit command! If those injuries didn't kill him, he suspected Kagome would. However, as he intended to sit back down, he suddenly froze in place. Before he could realize just what was happening, his mind seemingly went blank of all thought. His claws seemed to become longer, as well as sharper. His fangs began to protrude from his mouth, his eyes narrowing into slits and becoming blood red.

The hanyo was transforming into his yokai form. He focused upon the scent of Sango and Miroku's children, and only one thought crossed his mind.

Kill.

D?kuem?shon seemed to have planned this out. He was going to force Inuyasha to kill the babies, and perhaps cause even more damage to the village in his bloodlust.

(Korra's uncle? Nice)

Sango growled at Dakuemoshon and threw Hiraikotsu at him. "That's enough talk out of you! Die!" She then turned on Kohaku. "Go back! Stop Inuyasha!" "How are you going to stop him?" Kagome got nervous, holding her lover's sword. "What have I done?" She glared at Dakuemoshon in disgust. "You two handle him! I have to stop Inuyasha! Kirara!" The demon cat shifted at the sound of her own name and took the miko back. "You'll pay for what you've done, Dakuemoshon!" Sango exclaimed.

(Dah Dark Avatar, xD )

The hiraikotsu tore through the demon's arm, which was then enshrouded in what looked like smoke. "By the time you get back there, Miko, those children will be slaughtered! I presume that there will be mortal casualties as well..." He mocked, his lips curling into an unmistakable sneer. Miroku had taken a set of sacred sutras from his robe, preparing to fling them at the being. Dākuemōshon, however, seemed poised and ready to battle. As Miroku raised his arm, a sudden jet of ebony substance, similar to a moderately large tendril (Yet not attached to anything) had struck him in the chest, sending him flying into a tree.

Inuyasha, on the other hand, was tearing through homes to get to the children, striking away the few unlucky villagers that came in his path.

Sango barely took notice of her husband's injury, too focused on taking down the demon. "Hang on, Miroku!" She threw her weapon again, hoping to hit the enemy in the heart this time. "Heartless bastard!" She grabbed the weapon again. "Kagome will save my children! You will be dead by the end of the day."

Kagome kept her head low as she dodged the trees. "Hurry, Kirara!" She begged the demon cat. Meanwhile, the twins were screaming, their home was actually being burned down. Kagome saw Inuyasha ahead of her. "Inuyasha!" She had tears in her eyes, Tessaiga at her side. "Inuyasha, please!" She jumped off the demon cat and latched onto Inuyasha's back. "Inuyasha, please listen to me!" She gave his sword back to him.

The demon's body was sliced apart by the force of Sango'a massive weapon. This time his torso and the rest of his body, excluding his head, had been enshrouded in the smoke substance. "But... will she save Inuyasha?" He asked, his head beginning to float upwards. The smoke was unleashed upon the duo, as a toxic mist. Dakuemoshon appeared to be gradually reverting to his true form as he made hus escape, his cruel laughter echoing through the area.

Meanwhile, Inuyasha had pulsed yet again, just as he was raising his claws towards the twins. He a glance at Kagome, and with his sword in hand... slowly but surely, he began to revert to his hanyo form. His eyes returned to their golden color, his claws lessened slightly in length, and he made no further attempts of destruction. Instead, he looked rather stunned at his surroundings.

"What the... What just happened?" He asked Kagome.

"Filthy half demon!" One of the villagers yelled. Others were beginning to gey up from the ground, saying spiteful things of the hanyo as well. Inuyasha, although still confused, looked nothing short of enraged. The villagers noticed this, and one of them yelled, "Gonna try and kill us again, you monster?!"

Sango turned on her heel. "Miroku, are you alright?" She sat on her knees next to him. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left them alone. We were so worried about Inuyasha that I forgot my own kids." Sango gingerly placed her hand on his cheek. "Come on, we have to get back." She stood to help him up.

"Hey!" Kagome spread her arms out in front of Inuyasha, protecting him from the village. "You all know Inuyasha. He would never hurt a human! It was my fault. I took Tessaiga away in order to keep Inuyasha from fighting the monster that attacked earlier while he was still injured!" She bit her lip. "If you kick him out, you kick me out too. Then, who will be healing you ungrateful people?!"

"Don't blame yourself Sango, I should have remembered..." He said, taking Sango's hand as he got up from off the ground. "We have to check on Inuyasha and Kagome. I hope she has turned him back by now..." Miroku trailed off, leading onward towards the village.

The villagers looked astonished, though one of them strode to the front, giving the two oft them a scornful gaze. "Then you're a traitor to your kind, you can leave with him!" Some of the villagers muttered in unrest, uneasy about what the miko said. Inuyasha grasped Kagome's hand, looking solemn. "Kagome... don't leave these villagers for my sake, I'll be fine on my own... I'll find the demon, and I'll kill it for this..."

"You hear that?!" The half demon roared. "I'll leave, idiots! But I swear, if you do anything to Kagome because of what happened here... Whatever pain the demon may have caused here, it'll be nothin compared to what I'll put you through! Got that?!" Furiously, Inuyasha leapt int the air, taking off.

(Beginning the development of Inuyasha's gradual transformatiom)

Kagome gave him a soft smile, not comfortable with Inuyasha being gone or out of her sight while she was in his time. "Inuyasha, wait!" She bit back her anger. "I don't see the point in me staying here while you're gone. Kaede can watch these people and all women know something about medicine." No way in hell would she be staying here while her lover was gone. "I'll be back in three days." It was too late. The red clothed demon was gone.

Kagome decided to go on home. Even though she had graduated school, her family and friends were still back in modern Japan. "I'll be back by the time you are." She through her bow over her shoulder and started toward the Bone Eater's well.

Sango followed. "I hope so too. Kirara hasn't come back, so I'm assuming things went back to normal, or as normal as our lives are now." Her dark hair fell behind her. "I won't be making this mistake again." She dashed toward her home. "Come on!"

The Hanyo's wounds had healed during his transformation, making this travel easy. Though Inuyasha weaved his way through the forest for hours, he found no trace of the demon. It was as though he had simply vanished completely. However, the useless search had given him time to think over things. He had obviously been possessed by something... and somehow, his demon enhanced scent lingered. What if he had slaughtered the twins and the villagers? What if he had harmed his beloved?

Inuyasha wanted to distance himself between himself and other humans, for their safety. But he hated the thought of trying to be without Kagome, without the rest of his friends. He caught her scent, heading back towards the well. Perhaps... if he just went there, just to see her, speak with her before going.

At that, Inuyasha leapt towards the bone eaters well, going within it, just as Kagome had...

As she was going through the endless space between the two worlds, Kagome kept her hands folded tightly on her bow, as if Inuyasha would be there with her through her weapon. Looking up, she turns around, feeling a splash behind her. It was him! As soon as she came up in her world, Kagome spoke again. "I thought you said you were going to find Dakuemoshon? I told you I wasn't staying in that village alone." She took his hand. "Still, I'm glad you're alive. If you had faced him alone and didn't make it back..." Kagome could just feel the tears starting to come. "Inuyasha." She embraced him again.

The hanyo himself seemed surprised that he had gone into the well right when Kagome had been traveling through the worlds. He had taken the assumption that she was already inside of her home. Inuyasha, though looking slightly awkward, hugged her warmly. He knew Kagome well, and somehow, could see that she was very close to crying. "Kagome, please don't cry, I'm fine," He said, quickly. He had to tell her something before he went back to slay Dakuemoshon...

"I'm going to go back and destroy Dakuemoshon, for what hes done," He began, his clawed hand gripping Kagome's. "Kagome... it won't be safe for you to return to my world, not while that demon is out there. And until I can kill it... if I keep coming to see you like this, he'll take control of me again, and I don't know if I'll be able to turn back. I can't put you at risk like that. I couldn't live with myself if I hurt you..." It seemed to be taking all of Inuyasha's resolve to say this.

He was silent for a few moments, before finally exclaiming, "We can't be together. Not while Dakuemoshon can exploit my demonic form any time he wants to. I can't put you in harms way like that. I'm putting you at risk by even coming here."

Kagome shook her black locks. "No. I won't let you fight this thing alone. Remember? You asked me to stay here when we were fighting Naraku and I told you 'no'. I want to stay with you, Inuyasha." She tried hard to show him some mercy and not say 'sit' in all of her frustration. "I won't go on without you. What if you get killed on the other side and I never know?" She couldn't bear the thought. "You can't go back either. Not without me, Inuyasha."

"Naraku couldn't control me like Dakuemoshon can. He was a despicable bastard alright, but he could never force me to harm you. This demon... if you hadn't come back... Miroku and Sango's kids would have been dead, and so would have a bunch of other villagers." Inuyahsa simply couldn't let her return, not when his very presence was already a threat. He was touched that she stuck be him, regardless of the jeers and taunts from the villagers, ignoring the fact that he had almost killed two children. Yes, he was being influenced by an outside force, but still...

"Even if something happens to me, you'll be safe here. That's what matters." Leaping out of the well, the Half-Demon brought his beloved out with him, before releasing her from his embrace. "Don't follow me back, Kagome... I'm doing this for your own good. I love you..." He turned around towards the well, preparing to leap back inside.

"So, what will happen to the twins when I'm not there now? You could kill them with me on this side." Kagome heard him say the most beautiful sentence ever. He loved her? After all the crap she had to take from him, he loved her? "You can't stop me from going to the other side." She would wait until Inuyasha was well away from the well to jump through.

"But, though you can't stop me, I won't go. I'll spare you the agony though you can't spare it for me. I will never know if you died." If he was so dead set on her staying, why did he follow? Why didn't he stay and block the well back on his side?

"Inuyasha, be careful." Without knowing if she'd ever see those adorable ears, those golden eyes, that white hair again, without knowing if she'd ever hear that voice again, the miko kissed the hanyo, then backed away before he could react. "I love you, Inuyasha." Turning on her heel, Kagome ran, silently crying, into her home.

She made it all the way to her room before the crying got louder, with her back against the door. "Inuyasha, I hate you."

It seemed like an eternity as she ran away, back to her home. Inuyasha's insides began to burn with guilt as he watched her, returning home. His finger briefly traced over his lips, where she had kissed him. He caught the scent of her tears, which had only managed to make him feel worse. Seeing her cry was absolute torture, and it made him exceedingly uncomfortable to realize what distress he was causing her. He almost wanted to leap after her, and take her in his arms yet again, to assure her that he would be back for her. But he couldn't promise her that, and in any case, going after her yet again would be a mistake. He had come here with one purpose, to inform Kagome of this decision and to say goodbye to her. Now he simply needed to give her some space, allow it to sink in.

His hands clenched, and looking slightly pale, Inuyasha leapt back into the well, once again soaring through the seemingly endless pool of space. "Kagome..." He shut his eyes for a moment, trying to block out the sorrow this was causing him as well. He had barely realized that he had made it back to the Feudal Era, but the scent of the surrounding forest gradually brought him back to his senses. He needed to find Dakuemoshon, the demon who had caused all of this in the first place, and somehow destroy him...

Kagome couldn't feel Inuyasha' s presence in her world anymore. Wiping whatever mess she had on her face away, the miko stood up and walked over to her window, staring at her family shrine. "Inuyasha, I hope you weren't smart enough to block the well." She left her room, waving to her family again, and heading out to the grocery store to distract herself, but, once she had got there, the instant noodles caught her eye. The miko's fists clenched. "Inuyasha, I hate you." That was a lie. She could never hate this man. "You're such a jerk!" She bought that night's dinner and went back home.

Meanwhile, back in Feudal Japan, Sango, Kohaku, and the others had all gathered in their home. As Sango turned away to feed her children, she couldn't help but wonder what they would do without the priestess. "Inuyasha, I hope you know what you're doing by leaving Kagome back in her home." She addressed the hanyo, while hearing the villagers put their homes together again and worrying about their sick and injured. "What will these people do without her healing powers?"

Indeed Inuyasha had been smart enough to attempt to block the well. He had made haste to placed a large tree within the Bone Eaters, albeit not truly wanting to... Inuyasha gave the Demon-Slayer a cold look. "The villagers will be fine, they don't need Kagome's healing powers. There are plenty of other women in the village who know how to help wounds," The Half-Demon snapped, standing up suddenly. Miroku, looking irritable, stood up as well. "Inuyasha, yo--"

However, the Hanyo cut across him. "I'm not going back to get her, don't try to change my mind. Shes safer there..." Miroku looked like he wanted to say something else, but sighing, he sat back down. There was clearly no changing Inuyasha's mind, and the last thing the monk wanted to do was to piss off the Hanyo.

"Miroku, don't do anything." Sango urged her husband. "Dakuemoshon planned this the entire time. He wanted to separate us." She was busy changing one baby. "He wanted Kagome out of the way to get to Inuyasha. Inuyasha fell for it and now we don't have her with us." It wasn't like Sango was any help right now either, with the babies needing constant attention. "I think you should go back and get her."

Once Kagome had returned home and made dinner, she spent hours trying to get through, but, each time she did, the miko just kept getting blocked by something. "Inuyasha!" Kagome knew her friend couldn't hear her, but she still wanted to try. "When I get back there, just you wait!" She took the liberty of kicking the well and exiting the shrine. "Jerk! I hope Sesshomaru beats you to a pulp!" Having no idea why that came out of her mouth, Kagome kept up her rage.

It seemed that Kagome's time stuck within her world had changed, rather quickly it seemed. "That's Kagome's scent, I just know it!" exclaimed a haughty figure, who appeared to be closing in upon the well. The individual thrust his hands around the tree, and grunting with effort, he heaved it out of the well, throwing it to the side. "Hey Kagome, you in there?!" Asked the wolf-demon, peering into the well. He hadn't expected to ever catch Kagome's scent again, and it was rather a pleasant surprise when he did. It was lucky that he had been passing by.

Kagome sensed that she was now able to jump through the well. The portal had appeared again and she could hear the chief of the wolf demon tribe on the other side, probably with Ayame or Hakaku and Ginta. She jumped in and came up on the other side, shocked to see Koga alone. "Koga, it's you!" She was stunned. The last time she had seen him, he was engaged to Ayame. "I'm glad to see you, actually. I'm a little angry with Inuyasha. What have you been doing?" She took his hand and climbed out of the well.

"Well, I was just passing by, getting some fresh air, ya know?" Koga said, pulling her from the well. By fresh air, he meant a break from... well, things back in the mountains. It wasn't exactly 'easy' being chief of each of the wolf-demon tribes. Although he had previously been in love with Kagome, his marriage to Ayame and Kagome leaving to her world three years ago caused those previous romantic feelings to be nigh gone. However, it didn't make speaking with her any else awkward. "Hang on," He began, looking impudent, "What did that mutt do this time?"

Kagome was actually glad that Koga didn't love her the way he loved Ayame anymore, and they could carry on a conversation without Kagome feeling awkward. Still, it would be nice to get back at Inuyasha for leaving her behind, and there was not anything wrong with a little flirting. "Oh, you know, it's Inuyasha. He's always causing trouble." She folded her hands together behind her back, starting to walk away. "Anyway, thanks for moving that tree." She giggled a bit, starting off on her own. "You better hurry. Ayame will be looking for you."

(And here comes the sits)

"Don't worry, Ayame's back at the mountain, I'll be fine for now..." Koga stated, walking after Kagome. "I've said it before, you're better off without the mutt..." Koga stated.

Meanwhile...

Inuyasha had remained seated in the corner of Miroku and Sango's home, having been silent for a bit. However, two familiar scents, belonging to Koga and Kagome caused him to jump to his feet. "I know that scent, it's Kagome! But how'd she get through the well? Wait... that wolf is there too!" Inuyasha growled, leaping out of the structure before either of them could react. Several thoughts were racing through his head as he dashed towards her location. Why didn't she just listen and stay behind? She was in danger here!
