The Great Magi's Misadventures

Finnas took a deep breath and exhaled. "Ah, home sweet home," he said as he and Tayleen came up to the entrance of the city square. Finnas looked around. It had been several months since he last visited his family, but first he had to get the things he needed to teach Tayleen from the magic shop his friend owned. He shuddered once more.

Tayleen looked around, half frightened and half in awe. She couldn't focus on just one thing. She felt like a child in a candy shop. Everything was new. She looked at the ground and sighed. She looked up and around once more.

Finnas decided to put on his man-pants and go into the shop. "Alright, follow me," he told Tayleen as he began walking towards a quiet alleyway, which held the entrance to the magic shop his friend owns.

Tayleen nodded and followed him. For some reason, she felt that things wouldn't go so well. She looked around the ally. She shuddered and closed her eyes for a moment. She opened them again and put on a fake smile. She felt frozen with fear inside though.

Finnas took a deep breath before entering the shop. "Hello?" he called out as he entered the magic shop. He looked around for Cassandra, who was also the shop's clerk. Finnas breathed a sigh of relief as he went in completely, only to be tackled by a girl.

"Finnas!" The girl said as she nuzzled her face against Finnas' cheek. "Oh, how I've missed you! It's so great to see you again!"

"Hah, hello to you to, Cassandra," Finnas said in an annoyed tone, struggling to push Cassandra away.

Tayleen stood in the doorway, slightly shocked by what had happened. She shook her head to clear the image and walked into the shop. She watched Cassandra for a moment before sighing and grabbed her wrist. "Hey, I can see that you like him and all. You should probably give him some space though." she said softly, pulling her away from Finnas. She let go of her wrist and shrugged.

"Why, do you like him?" Cassandra asked Tayleen, getting in her face, pausing for a moment. "Who are you anyway?"

"She's my apprentice," Finnas said, dusting off his coat. "She's the one I've chosen."

"
Right, picking her over me? How could you?" Cassandra said, all dramatic and such.

"You know it's not like that," he said, crossing his arms. "She just happens to be the only one with a Mage's Spirit."

"
I see." Cassandra walked back to Finnas, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his cheek.

"Ah, hey!"

Tayleen looked at Cassandra for a moment. She rolled her eyes. "Even if I did, what would it matter? I am only in his presence to learn magic. Whether or not is besides the point. And I say give him space because I don't think anyone would fall for someone who is constantly neglecting to remember that people do have personal space. Can we move on to the business side of things?" She sighed. She had felt her cheeks heat up at the question Cassandra asked, but brushed it off as embarrassment. She couldn't like him that way, could she? Besides, it was probably nothing, at least that's what she hoped. Something nagged at her though, as if she had been annoyed by Cassandra's actions, or jealous. She sighed and shook all thoughts away.

Finnas pushed Cassandra away and wiped his cheek.

"Anyway, what do you need?" Cassandra asked, walking behind the counter of the store and putting on an apron. She smirked when she saw Tayleen blushing.

"Ugh, just get me some basic teaching books." Finnas replied, rubbing his forehead in frustration.

"
Alrighty, sweetie." Cassandra winked as she went into the room behind the counter to recover some books.

"Go ahead and look around if you want. If there's anything that interests you, show me and I might get it for you."

There were various nic-nacs around the four shelves of the shop, forming five aisles, along with various books and other equipment.

Tayleen rolled her eyes and walked around the shop. She wasn't much for shopping, preferring to be outside and talking with friends. She looked at the shelves, a little surprised by what they held. She knelt down to look at a glass ball. It seemed to be a cloudy pink. She tilted her head and watched as it turned a little clearer and somehow turned a soft blue. "Huh" she mumbled. She stood up and stared at it for a moment.

Cassandra returned from the backroom carrying several books in between her arms.

"Why don't you just use levitation on the books?" Finnas said, shaking his head.

"Why don't you be a gentleman and help me out?" Cassandra sassed. Finnas shrugged his shoulders as she plopped the books on the counter.

Finnas walked up to the counter and inspected the books. "Alright, this should be what we need. Ready to go, Tayleen?"

Tayleen jumped, startled. She put the glass ball back where she had found it and walked over to the counter. " I am ready"

Finnas stored the books in his bag as he looked back at Tayleen, then back at Cassandra. "Thank you for your service, Miss Cassandra."

"I thought I told you to call me Cassie, Finnas," Cassandra moaned, leaning over the counter and tugging at Finnas' cloak. She then let out a small "mew".

"I never use nicknames," Finnas replied, shrugging off Cassandra. "Let's go, Tayleen. We should find a place to eat and rest." He then began to walk towards the entrance.

Tayleen watched the exchange. She shrugged when it was over and followed Finnas, glad to be leaving the shop. "I'm coming"

"See ya later, Finny!" Cassandra called out, winking and blowing Finnas a kiss.

"Ugh, let's go," Finnas sighed and left the shop.

Tayleen rolled her eyes and laughed to herself. "Finny" she whispered. She shrugged and followed after Finnas, amused by the nickname. As she walked, her hands swayed by her sides. She looked around the city, secretly hoping she wouldn't get lost.

As the duo left the building, a cat leaped out from above the door way.

"Aw, great, not you again," Finnas grumbled, walking away from the cat, which mewed at Finnas and walked along side him.

Tayleen watched the cat for a moment. She shrugged and kept walking. She thought as she walked, occasionally glancing at the cat, but not really focusing on it. Her mind was in her village, talking with her friends. She shook the thoughts from her head and focused on her surroundings for a moment.

Finnas tried to ignore the cat as best he could as they walked along, but it jumped onto his shoulder and sat there. "Ah, c'mon, go away," Finnas told the cat. It only mewed in response with a happy face. "Shouldn't you be manning the counter, Cassandra?"

Tayleen looked at the cat once more. She sighed and shook her head. In her mind, Cassandra was trying way too hard and it was annoying Finnas. She shrugged and looked around the city once more.

"Aw, you're no fun, Finny," the cat spoke, leaping off his shoulder then transforming into Cassandra, who then hugged Finnas' arm.

Finnas put his free hand on Cassandra's face to keep her from kissing him.

Tayleen looked at the two and rolled her eyes. A thought occurred to her. Hadn't there just been a cat? If so, how did Cassandra just appear? She looked up at the sky, thoughtful. She shook her head and looked ahead again. She looked at the buildings, somewhat curious as to what lay inside of them.

Tayleen looked at him. "No, but it looks like you need a little help." she said. She shrugged and watched Cassandra for a moment.
