The Great Magi's Misadventures

She sighed as she took the necklace and put it back on. She shook her head. "I don't know, I don't remember my parents well," she said, then fell silent. She turned her gaze to the floor. " Of course you wouldn't, it's not a common trait in villages"

"Ugh, you really are clueless, aren't you?" Finnas side, shaking his head at the floor. "Long story short: you have a Mage's Spirit in you. And correction, there are several villages with those who have untapped Mage's Spirits."

She blinked. "Oh..." she said simply. She sighed. How was she supposed to know this. Her hand went to the necklace and she rubbed the crystal at its end.

" I figured that!" she said. She sighed and walked outside for air. She shook her head.

Finnas followed outside. "I'm giving you a choice here: Either you remain in the town and live your life as a normal person. or follow me and endure the hardships of becoming a mage, because it won't be easy."

She thought for a moment. She sighed. "I'll follow you, but...you might get annoyed with me, " she said. She shrugged and looked at the ground.

"That may be true, but please, try your best not to be a nuisance," Finnas said, "I forgot how many pupils I left in various forests and caves."

" I'll try, but there are somethings that maybe you need to learn to deal with, " Tayleen said in a soft voice. She sighed.

"I guess we're going with choice two, then." Finnas went inside his house and grabbed a hiking bag from his closet, then returned outside and dropped it in front of Tayleen. "Pack only what you need. And don't tell anyone about our meeting and where my house is. Last thing I want is people begging me to teach them magic."

Tayleen sighed and grabbed the hiking bag. There was no way she could fill it. She ran to the village and into a small hut at the edge and packed. She packed her tunic and a small black stone. In her opinion, there was nothing more that she needed. She walked out of the hut and stood for a moment, looking at her village.

Tayleen's friend noticed her standing at the edge of the forest with a bag on her back and ran to catch up with her. "Hey, you goin' anywhere?" her friend asked, glancing at the hiking pack.

Meanwhile, Finnas waited outside his house with his Infinity Bag on his back and staff in hand.

Tayleen looked at her friend and gave her a sad smile. She looked to the woods. " Yeah, but I don't know where" she said before running off into the woods. She ran to Finnas' house and fell to the ground in exhaustion. She took a deep breath and stood.

Finnas glanced at Tayleen as he was peeling the skin off an orange. "You alright there?" he said in a sarcastic tone.

"Shut up," she said, annoyed. She looked at the ground, just realizing what she had said and who she had said it to. "Sorry," she mumbled.

Finnas tossed half of the orange to Tayleen, putting the knife in the scabbard behind his waist and grabbing his treasured staff. "Eat that. You'll need the energy." Finnas then began walking north as he ate the slices of orange he had in his right hand.

She caught the half of the orange in her left hand. She sighed and followed Finnas. As she walked, she peeled the slices off the orange half and ate.

"I don't believe I got your family name," Finnas said as he walked along, tossing the orange peels onto the ground. He looked up at the sky. They still had a couple hours before it got dark.

"DeAdra," Tayleen said in an ununusually soft voice. She sighed and shook her head. She didn't know why, but she felt saddened. She closed her eyes, sensing the trail they were taking rather than seeing it. Her fists clenched around the remaining orange peels as she walked behind Finnas.

DeAdra? Finnas thought to himself. Where have I heard that name before? Finnas shrugged his shoulders and listened to the sounds of the forest, closing his eyes as he walked along.

Tayleen thought, her eyes still closed as she followed Finnas. She felt the urge to say something, anything. She sighed and reached into the hiking bag and pulled out the small black stone. She rolled in her hand, feeling its smooth and rounded edges. The stone was worn a shiny color from years of her rubbing it.

As Finnas listened, he heard something rustle in the bushes nearby. "Wait," Finnas said quietly, listening more. It sounded like it was getting closer.

Tayleen froze. She kneeled down to feel the ground. She shrugged and stood. She slowly opened her eyes and looked around.

Finnas surveyed the area, putting down his infinity bag and gathered magical energy into his right hand. He stood quiet and listened, shifting his eyes from left to right. A shadowy beast leapt from the bushes, pouncing at Finnas with great ferocity. Finnas punched at the beast, releasing the energy from his hand, and knocked the beast back into the bushes. Finnas then saw it run away from him. "Well, we won't be seeing him anytime soon," he said, dusting off his hands.

Tayleen stared at Finnas, both frightened and amazed. She didn't feel like she could move. Her arms and legs felt stiff. She shuddered at her thoughts and turned away. Her hand closed around the black stone, holding it in a death grip. Something told her in the the back of her mind that she couldn't let anyone find the stone. She shuddered again and sighed. She turned back to Finnas, ready to continue on.
