The Great Magi's Misadventures

"Wait, how would you know about your kind? Wouldn't it have been a secret by your parents to you?" Finnas questioned, leaning forward.

"First of all, I didn't know they were my kind. Second of all, I was a curious child that loved to read. My parents' library were full of books. When there is nothing to do when your parents keep you inside for reasons you don't know, you get curious. So, I read. I learned a lot. I may seem like an idiot sometimes, but I'm not." Tayleen said. She fell into silence and rubbed her wrist with her other hand.

"So you knew about the DeAdra, but didn't know that your father was one of them?" Finnas asked, "And why didn't they let you out?"

"Yeah, why didn't they? If your mother was human, you'd look no different than any other kid on the street."

"I still don't know the answer to that. I'm guessing it was that there were a high number of bandits in the area. The village I was living in, I didn't live there. In fact, I roam from village to village now. Trying to avoid bandits, and then it seemed that they caught up to me." Tayleen said. She shrugged and looked down.

Tayleen looked up. "A place that was once peaceful. Byesea. A small coastal town. If you look for it now, you'll only find ruins."

"Maybe we'll find something else, too," Finnas said, getting up and stretching. Visiting archaeological sites was one of his favorite things to do when he was younger. "We should go check it out. I can teach you on the way."

Tayleen looked up at him, speechless for a moment. She shook her head and looked down. "I'd rather not, but if you insist." She looked up and stared at the wall for a moment. She closed her eyes a moment and then opened them. " Opening old wounds is not a good idea either."

"We'll be fine," Finnas said, a bit arrogantly. He knew what opening old wounds was like, but he never let it bother him.

"You're free to say a while if you want," Cassandra said, taking the empty plates and putting them in the sink. "You can learn how to use magic here."

Tayleen closed her eyes and thought for a moment. She didn't want to stay there longer than she had to, but she saw how much Cassandra cared for Finnas. She knew that when you cared for someone that much, you didn't want them to leave. She sighed. It was a hard decision. She clinched her fist and opened her eyes. "I thank you for the offer, but if I stay any longer...I doubt I'll still be sane. "

"Lying, hiding. Hard to explain stuff. "Tayleen shrugged. "There were a few things. I've seen how much you care about him..And I hope that at least someone can have an ending they would like..." she looked down, then walked towards the front door. "I'll be at the edge if needed." She walked out and to the the edge of the city. Her thoughts wandering as she walked. She would occasionally stop and talk to a few of the citizens.

"I might as well take my leave now, then," Finnas said, brushing off his hands and getting up from the table, heading to his room to gather his stuff along with Tayleen's.

A child walked up to Tayleen and tugged on her sleeve. "What's the matter, miss?" he asked. It was the same child Tayleen met the previous day at the fountain.

Tayleen looked down at the child and shook her head. "Not a thing that I should worry about. Caring more for someone else over your own self will sometimes lead to great pain. " she sighed.

The child looked around and plucked out a flower that was growing out of a crack next to the fountain and gave it to Tayleen. "Is there someone you love?" he asked, sitting next to Tayleen.

Tayleen took the flower and looked at it for a moment. "There is, but it wouldn't matter." She shrugged and smiled at the child. "Sometimes, we have to just move on and that's what I think I will do."

"Well, my parents told me that if there's someone that I love very much, I shouldn't give up on that person," the child said, swinging his legs.

Tayleen looked down for a moment, thoughtful. She closed her eyes and nodded slowly. She opened her eyes and looked at the child. "I think your parents are wise. You shouldn't give up on someone that you love very much. It's unwise to do." She stood and offered her hand to the child to help him stand.

The child took Tayleen's hand and stood up. "I have to go now. Good luck with your love life!" The kid said, waving to Tayleen as he ran off.

Finnas wandered in, walking towards Tayleen, raising a brow at the child. "Who's that?" he asked her, dropping Tayleen's bag on the ground in front of her.

Tayleen stared at the child as he ran off, then turned to face Finnas. She shrugged and picked up her bag. "A child. I met him yesterday at the fountain."

Tayleen looked at the map. She was silent for a moment as she looked over the map. A small smile came to her face as her eyes landed on where her old home used to be. It was the first genuine smile since she had been a child. She nodded and looked at him. "I am."

Finnas glanced at Tayleen, noticing her smile. "Nice smile you got there," he commented. He meant it, too. He folded up the map and put it back into his pocket. "Alright, lets get going."

The Whisper Stone Cassandra gave Tayleen started to glow in Tayleen's bag.
