Fantasy The Final Masquerade | Volume: ONE

Eldrick walked down the path of his house and towards the town square. Once he got there he checked his pockets for any coin he may have, since pretty much everything had gone up in prince. He counted around 130 gold in his pocket and sighed, I guess I'll be eating something basic then. He walked into a rather run down looking tavern and recognized the bartender, "Hey Ravi," he said sitting down at the table.

Ravi walked over, "Basic breakfast?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Eldrick nodded, "Indeed, the usual please," he said. Ravi walked off to get his food, and Eldrick put his head on the table, as he played with the knife on the table boredly.

"Alright" They headed towards town. She always liked going into town she never got to go that much but she did she liked seeing all the people.

Silas woke, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he sat up and looked around the room. Small and cold were two words to describe them, though he was used to such conditions he wondered how Terra had fared, he could tell she was clearly the daughter of a noble by her attire. After going through the morning routine Silas walked downstairs, noticing the two crew-members he'd seen last night were also present, one headed in the direction of the bathroom. Briefly considering introducing himself he decided it could wait, instead ordering a meal, a glass of whiskey and taking a seat near the back.

Julian ignored all people as he lead his new friend through the crowd. He found a small cafe in which he entered and took a seat.

Julian placed a pistol on the table and started reading the menu.

"Aye buddy, I'm not havin' no shoot out here. Not this early." The bartender had said to Julian.

"Some food for me and my friend here and you won't have to worry about any shoot out, sir." Julian snapped back, placing his hand on the weapon he had placed on the table.

"Hmph." The bartender signaled for a waitress to serve Julian and Terra. They were soon met with an overly kind waitress. Julian's hand retracted from the weapon, his cheeks blushed a burning red as the people around him said noting and only stared.

'Damn, stop drawing attention to yourself dumb ass!' Julian thought to himself.

After Julian talked to the bartender it got quiet and the people stared at there table. "Um.... " the waitress was waiting and then Terra notice that Julian face had gone. "Hey you all right?" She looked back around her and said "seriously people there is nothing to see here." The people around them slowly went back to what they were doing.

Julian's face returned to it's normal shade of pale. "Would you like to order first?" He asked Terra. The waitress has a pen and paper out and was waiting for them to order.

I
n less than 24 hours, the poster no longer caught the town people's attention. That, Selena understood. Anything new in this world was just like a stone thrown to the water. That stone moved the water, agitating it for a bit. But that was all, the water was so deep that it went back to its orignal state immediately.

But what about her heart?

She put her hand where her heart was, feeling it throb. She couldn't get that recruitment out of her mind even after a long night. She walked to the dock, still not being sure if she'd join that dreamer. It lay in the hand of god, that was, if god truly existed. She had never believed in god, but maybe, if she saw a miracle there, just maybe, she would give her prayer to god.

And the dock was there, as it always was, before her eyes. See? That Organizer or whatever, was not there. It might be a prank. Or maybe the Organizer hadn't come? Maybe nobody wanted to join? Maybe because there was no name, no sign and no time on the poster, people just couldn't reach him? Or maybe the Organizer himself changed his mind?

Whatever, her bet was over.

"Yah sure i'll have...." When terra got hungry that girl could eat like no other and she was hungry and ready to stuff her face. "...............20 pancakes. Oh and here i'll be paying with this." She took out her card and put it on the table. "Oh and a glass a milk please."

Torre returned from the lavatories, realizing he had actually not eaten any supper last night, opting to just sleep the entire night away. He wondered if Miss North also did not have anything to eat yet. When he returned, he saw Miss North looking out the window rather forlornly; perhaps she was reminiscing about the town? She could have been living here regularly, for all Torre knew, so this trip would cause her to leave a lot of friends she made here, like Georgie. His stomach rumbled a second time, indicated that he really should be getting something to eat.

"Miss North, have you eaten yet? Because I have not, and also hadn't eaten dinner last night, I am rather famished at the moment. Would you be willing to have some breakfast with me? Would you also know any good establishments for eating around here?" Torre asked, thinking about what he himself should eat. He wondered what sort of food would be available at this time of day in this town.

"I'll have some water and two waffles. Thanks." Julian handed the waitress his menu and looked out the window.

The waitress ran back to the kitchen all peppy like.

Vivian turned to face Torre, chuckling at the sound of his stomach growling. She leaned her back against the window, shaking her head as she spoke, "No, I haven't eaten yet either. I usually go to the markets to pick up some food, but it was in the opposite direction of the inn and I didn't want to be late." That last bit was a lie, for the girl hadn't thought about breakfast until she arrived. Some days she would miss a meal or two before realizing that she should probably take care of herself - and even then she'd really only eat cake.

"I wouldn't mind eating with you," she said, "We could have breakfast here, unless you'd prefer a cafe or something. Oh! I know this one place that makes excellent sweets." Vivian headed for the door, going over the bed instead of around. "So," the girl said, standing by the door. "What'll it be?"

Torre felt terrible for making Miss North miss her usual routine of food gathering because of his request. "I am truly sorry, Miss North, for having you eat later than you normally do. I can eat whatever is available at this time, so I am fine with wherever you wish to go," Torre replied, apologizing. He hurriedly got his stuff together as he said this, so that he was ready to leave as soon as he finished speaking. "So where would you like to eat?"

Silas quickly finished his meal, leaving naught a scrap on the cheap plate it'd been served on, years in the slums having taught him not to waste even a spec of food. Stepping outside and lighting a cigarette Silas set off towards the docks, the morning bustle of the city surrounding him as he walked, people going about their fragile little lives without a worry in the world. Coming to the docks he noticed a black hair woman standing off on her own, a familiar looking sheet of paper crunched up in her fist. Taking the cigarette out of his mouth and holding it between his fingers she approached the woman "You are for the voyage? The captain doesn't seem to be around, but if yesterday was any display his standards seem... Lax at best" Informing the woman of the situation, doubting Gray would be here anytime soon.

Vivian let out a laugh, giving Torre a sympathetic pat on the back. "Oh, don't you be sorry. It was my choice!" she told him before heading down the stairs, declaring "Cake it is, then!" as she descended. She almost walked out the front door until stopping short, turning back around to give Georgie a sad look.

"Georgie Peorgie, my friend!" she said loudly and over-dramatically, hopping over the bar to give the owner a hug. "I'm afraid this could be the last day i'll see you." The girl sniffed back tears, but pulled away with a with a wide grin. "Tooooorre," she called, glancing back at him, "Don't forget to pay the lovely man for his services. I doubt you'll be staying another night." Vivian laughed once more, swinging herself over the bar and nearly bursting through the door on her way outside.

"Yes, Miss North," Torre replied, coming down the stairs. He was glad Miss North was taken the goodbyes so well; she seemed quite jubilant about the whole thing. As Miss North reminded, Torre went up to Sir Georgie to pay the ten golds for the night, and apologized for not eating in his establishment before following Miss North outside the inn. He was curious as to how far this cake-selling establishment was.

Vivian was almost skipping down the street, excited for her morning pastry. After a little while, the girl turned towards Torre as the two walked. "So... Have you really been stuck inside of a castle your whole life?" she questioned, putting her hands behind her back. "You never left your home until recently, then? I was wondering what that would be like - I mean, it doesn't seem too bad."

"More or less, yes, Miss North. My grandfather was a fairly wealthy baron, so my mother should a Baroness, but stripped herself of the title when marrying my father. When my father died going to war, she became paranoid of the outside world, and barred me from ever leaving the castle. The servants told me that my mother rarely even let me leave from her sight when I was incredibly young," Torre explained, giving a summary of his family's history.

"It was not until I was ten that I was able to convince her to let me leave when I was 18, for the sake of living life like father did. I had to stay within the castle walls at all times until then however. I would imagine the average castle-owning family would be less... Restrictive with their son's upbringing. I was schooled somewhat constantly, since there was not much else I could do. The only things I know right not about the outside world, aside from yesterday, is from what the history books told, and what the servants or my master would tell me about and occasionally bring to me such as pictures or items. I hope I did not bore you with a rather lengthy explanation, Miss North," Torre finished, realizing he has been talking for quite some time. He also realized that this was the first time he told someone about his life, not really having someone else to talk about it with in the past.

Vivian found herself actually listening to Torre's story without laughing or cracking jokes. Her cheerful grin had faded somewhere along the way, and she now looked downwards towards her feet. She truly felt sorry for the younger man, part of it being because he didn't seem to realize his past was somewhat sad.

"It's alright, Torre," she said, kicking at a stone with her boot. "You didn't bore me, but... Well, it must have been lonely for you." Vivian looked up at him, but did not stop walking. "Sure, you had your mother, your teachers, and a castle full of servants, but you must not have had many friends, if any." The girl smiled again, looking forward as she stretched her arms above her head. "It must be reeeeaally strange seeing the real world for the first time." she said, laughing.

While they were waiting was spaced out thinking to herself. 'Maybe this won't be so bad.' "Yah it's like one big adventure." She thought out loud. The waitress came back with the food. When the waitress gave them there food she looked at Terra a little worried. "Um miss you sure you can eat all this?" She said looking at the large stake of pancakes. "Oh yah sure I'll be fine." The waitress walked away. "Well let's dig in."

Torre was glad Miss North's forlorn look was due to the contents of his story, as opposed to boredom, though he did not understand why she felt that way. "I do not think it was as lonely as you are imagining Miss North. After all, if I lived my entire life in loneliness, I do not have a reference for anything better, do I?" he replied, smiling at her. "I must say that it is much more refreshing to be out here, though, around so many people. It is something that I imagined many times before, and it feels uplifting to finally be here." He took a deep breath, feeling that the air seemed even more lively. He realized that he knew very little of Miss North's own upbringing.

"If you do not mind me intruding, may I know of your own upbringing, Miss North?" he asked, curious on how she came about learning how to master her mechanical sword, and what her upbringing was like.

"You are for the voyage?"

Right at the moment she thought her coming to the dock was in vain, a stranger suddenly came out of their way, and approached her. The cigarette smoke floating in the cold sea breeze of the late winter was suffocating a bit and the gray color signal her of danger. She shuddered in a blink, feeling the cold absorbing into her skin and flesh much deeper. But the prayer slowly came back.

"The captain doesn't seem to be around, but if yesterday was any display his standards seem... Lax at best"

The captain? meaning the organizer?

"You are...?"

She spoke out, wonder if she was mistaking his words and raising her hope too high. But, what was that hope about? For him to talk about something else and just mistook her for someone else, or telling her that the journey was true?

Vivian felt her stomach drop and her smile faltered at the question, though she recovered quickly. "My story isn't as interesting," she said, shrugging. "But, uh... Well, I was born on the streets and my parents died when I was really young. Until I turned eighteen, I had to do whatever I had to in order to survive. When I was old enough, though, I tried to join both of the royal armies on separate occasions, but I was booted out before I could even finish my training." The girl frowned, scratching her head with one gloved hand while shoving the other in her pants pocket. "I guess that's where I learned the basics in sword fighting, but I'm much more competent in hand-to-hand combat, among other things."

The girl could feel anger swelling up, obviously still upset over being unable to fulfill the one thing she wanted. "I could have been living an easy life by now, if those idiots hadn't been so..." she growled, tousling her bangs.
