Kaiden found that even though they were still new to be a couple, he was enjoying the ride immensely. He raised an eyebrow at the comment and chuckled. He kissed Ezekiel back just as fervently before looking at him. "Well. We could talk about that or we could go back home and spend time together until dinner.." Kai said with a grin, this time initiating the kiss. Yeah, he could see what Soren meant three years ago when he talked about love.

Jacob looked at Soren and laughed softly as he heard his words. "I'm sure they will be." He replied as they walked towards their house. He felt their hands swing before he sighed, hearing Soren. "I can't help thinking about this whole situation. I'm behind Hayden, but I'm worried that I won't be good enough to help fix the leg after it breaks. I saw how it was when it first broke and it wasn't pretty. I barely fixed it the last time, and if I had been better, maybe I could've gotten it to heal right the first time." Jacob admitted. He had always been hard on himself when it came to his work, but when it was on family? He got even more hard on himself. But he knew that bottling up his fears and worries was not the way to go, and that talking to Soren always helped.

Josh felt Hayden lean on him and he wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "If your mind isn't in it, then it might be wiser to leave it for tomorrow." He said, kissing the top of his head. "Perhaps we should go take a rest until dinner? These two will be fine here. Besides, Jonas is here to work on people, he can keep an eye on the two younger ones."

Alex watched as Nate laughed and fixed his mess. He smiled as he watched Nate flip open some books and kept watching him. "I don't mind sitting here with you, and listening to you info dump." Alex said, as he squeezed his hand gently. "Besides, it's fascinating watching you all excited over this."​

Would that ever get old? Would it ever stop having the power that it did? He hoped not. Ezekiel was instantly drawn into the kiss as Kai started it back up again. How could he say no to that? How could he ever say no? He spent so many years with the strongest passion trying to figure out this relationship, and that strong passion was still there. He pried himself away. “Yeah, that’s what we’re doing.” He kissed him again before reaching for his hand and pulling him away with a chuckle.

Soren had heard this before. The Jacob thinking that he was not good enough worry. It was the most ridiculous thing that he had ever heard, but he could see why Jacob might feel that way. “And I have told you a million times that the reason you could only barely put it back together the first time was because it broke in possibly the worst way. I was there. I saw it. That was more than a little nasty. That was impossible, and yet you still got him up and walking again.” He slowed them as they reached their home. “What if you had what you used to have when you were a nurse back in Seattle? Imagine what you could do with those magic hands of yours.”

Hayden never liked leaving projects unfinished, especially when he spent the entire day not doing any of it. He frowned and then nodded. “You’re probably right. You’re so often right.” He was trying to listen to people more now. He was trying to listen to his body. He was trying. It was hard. So exceedingly hard. “Alright, fine. We go home, I don’t think about how much this seemed to stress Kai, and then I deal with this tomorrow.”

Nate looked at him curiously. This was fascinating to watch? His mama was always annoyed by this when he was younger. She said it took up so much space. Max and Ben never seemed bothered, but they also never seemed to care at all. He didn’t expect Alex to like it. To choose it. “Okay. Well, then you’re in for a full on lesson. Because look at this.” He never stopped once he started. He did not even notice that the other two were leaving. He did not notice Jonas also there.

Jacob looked at Soren and sighed softly, a smile on his face as he nodded. "I know you have, and I appreciate it each time, but it's hard sometimes to think that way. I know you were there, and for that I will always be thankful." Jacob said, remembering how much his hands had shaken when he'd tried to put Hayden back together. Tried to help his brother walk again. That was a rough time. He'd turned to Soren that night, thankful that his husband had come with him when he'd asked him too. He looked at him when they slowed as they reached their home. "I wish I still had that stuff in Seattle. The equipment there, then I could've saved his leg and we wouldn't have to re break it." Jacob said, turning his head away and looking at the ground.

Josh sighed softly yet he nodded. "I don't like always being right." He muttered softly as he heard Hayden say he'd go home. Though the next comment drew Joshua's attention. "Kai? When did Kai find out?" Josh asked as he held out a hand for his husband to help him head home.

Alex chuckled as he looked at Nate and nodded. "Okay, teach me then Medicine Man." He said, leaning in and looking at everything Nate wanted to show him. He also kept an eye on the time so they didn't miss dinner. He knew it would be a few hours before it so he wasn't too worried about anything right now.​

Soren lifted Jacob’s head so that he could smile at that beautiful face. “Right, you could have done it if we had all that equipment before the outbreak took that from you. Not you.” He always wanted to remind Jacob that it was not his fault that he could not do the levels that he once would have been able to. “If he broke his leg right now, brand new never before broken that leg looks bad like it did that day that Josh carried him to you, what could you do? Be honest. Could you do better than he did all those years ago just with what you have here? Not including your new assistant. We haven’t seen his work yet.” He unlocked the door and pushed it open for them.

As Hayden slowly stood up, prodding it earlier tired it out faster than it usually did on normal days, he answered. “When you were gone finding books. He came in to get his back massage with Jacob. We talked about it then.” He smiled and shook his head. “I don’t think he likes the idea. But I don’t blame him. Even this kid came in and said they wanted to break Kai’s leg, I don’t think I would even give him a chance to finish explaining.”

Nate laughed and decided to do just that. He could share every bit of knowledge that he had, because he loved sharing. He was so intrigued by the human body, and the books were all telling him things that he mostly already knew. Granted, he would need to do serious reading through all of them to learn something new. That was for another time. Now was for talking out the process that he thought might work. Having a non-medical person honestly might be a useful perspective. At some point, he paused and just smiled at Alex for a while. Probably too long not to be suspicious. He blinked a few times and flushed a deep shade of red. “Sorry. I, um… I got distracted. Okay. Where was I?” He quickly looked away and tried to reorient his mind.

Jacob felt Soren lift his head up and he smiled at Soren though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Maybe. We have better equipment here then we did back then. The WLF was still forming, we didn't have the medications and tools. Things that would've helped a lot back then." He said, following Soren to the house, stepping inside. "If we had the tools and equipment there and then that we have here and now, I might've been able to allow Hayden to keep his full range of motion." Jacob said, sitting down on the couch in the living room with a soft sigh.

Josh nodded as he listened to Hayden. "I see. And knowing him, he's probably worried right?" He guessed, hearing him. "I'm sure he'll come around, although that sounds about right. You always were just a bit overprotective of him." Josh said, wrapping an arm around Hayden to provide support.

Alex noticed that Nate had stopped talking, and he saw him looking at him and smiled. The words and that deep shade of red made Alex smile. "Oh am I distracting you?" He asked with a chuckle. "Should I leave so you can focus on your medical stuff beautiful?"​

Soren closed and locked the door before following Jacob over to the couch. “Okay, so hear me out. You are pretty confident that with what you have right now in this town – medications, equipment, and assistance – that you could have done better than you did then when we were new and had nothing.” He sat down beside him, one leg bent and up on the seat so that he could turn to face him. “You are moderately confident that you might have even been able to get him to the possibility of full range of motion given that Hayden – the most determined person I have ever met – worked at teaching his leg to work again.” He took both of Jacob’s hands in his own. “If he were to break his leg right here, right now, you could reasonably get him to full range, and if not that, still better than where he is now. Is that correct? Because that’s what I am hearing. Then why are you so afraid that you won’t be able to do that for him right here and right now?”

Hayden sometimes still struggled with allowing someone else to help him, though he was doing significantly better about it. He liked the help more now. It felt less like he had no control and more like how they needed each other before the outbreak. He laughed as they slowly moved out of the building. “A bit overprotective. Right!” He shook his head. “Of course he is worried. I don’t blame him at all. He worries just like I do. And he worries like you. I know you are wary about this too.” How could he not be. They went through it once, and it was good for literally no one.

“No!” Nate shook his head, reaching for Alex. “I do not want you to leave.” That deep red darkened even more if that was possible. “You’re just…I mean…” Where was he going with this? “You could be anywhere else in the whole world right now. You could get there. I would know. And despite that, despite this whole big beautiful town, you chose to sit right there and listen to me ramble on and on about epistaxis and the pros of having an anticoagulant, which is very difficult to find by the way.” He placed his hands over his cheeks like it could stop him from looking like the idiot that he felt. “You chose to be with me, and that is just kind of… I don’t know. Kinda… incredible?”

Jacob shifted so he could look at Soren, listening to him, and he bit his lip as he did. How in the world did he find someone who knew just how to make him feel better. And true, if he thought he could fix a freshly broken leg then why couldn't they fix it if they re break it? "I.. I don't know. I've never broken something just to fix it again, I guess." He admitted. "It almost goes against what I vowed when I became a nurse. But.. I know we can do it. He's determined, Nate's determined and I've got the skills too." Jacob admitted as he looked at Soren. "Thank you."

Josh chuckled as they walked out of the building slowly. A bit overprotective might've been an understatement. He looked at Hayden as they walked and he nodded. "I understand why he's worried, I'm wary too." He said, remembering that battle far to well. He'd carried Hayden to the WLF encampment, into their home base to deliver him to Jacob. And he was extremely unwelcome then, but he stayed until he knew that his husband would be okay. "I remember when you first broke it. And to see it broken again?" Josh said quietly.

Alex chuckled softly at the strong reaction to him suggesting he leave. He saw that deep red darken and he smiled warmly. "I'm not going anywhere then. And of course I'd choose to be with you. That's the only place I want to be." Alex admitted, leaning over and kissing his forehead. He kissed the hands the covered his cheeks, then he kissed him gently. "Now, tell me more about these anticoagulants."​

“Of course Nate is determined. You showed him that you have been the kind of medic that he has longed to be for probably his whole life.” Soren had never been so enamored of anyone else. Before he met Jacob, he saw a whole lot of people who were just people. Then there was Jacob, and everything he did felt like magic. “You can do anything. I wouldn’t even call it re breaking. I would call it preparing to be set correctly.” He said like he had any more than the tangential knowledge that came with being around his husband all the time. “Is there anything else bothering you? Because I can continue telling you ow amazing you are if you’d like.”

Hayden knew this was a lot to ask of those who were there when the initial injury happened. It was a lot to ask Josh when he was the one who did it. This was like throwing it right back in his face, and that was not what Hayden wanted to do anymore. He hated that about who he had become for so long. “You don’t have to look. I know that’s not what you mean exactly, but I wouldn’t be upset. I don’t want you to have to relive that. It wouldn’t be like the last time. It would happen right before they put it back together. I think. I mean, I would assume so, because there’s no way I can do anything else.” He shook his head. “I’m going to put anesthesia on his list. I will stay under for days if that’s what it takes. That pain was… yeah, I am not looking forward to that again.”

As Alex spoke and kissed him, all Nate could think was that he loved Alex so much. He was the most amazing person, and somehow, incredibly, Nate managed to keep him for himself even with people like Carlos out there vying for his affection. It was almost unreal. He nodded and tried to start up again. He pulled over one of the books to start off as a basis of the discussion, though he stopped looking at the book at some point. He knew so much from is many days of waiting on his mother to be done in endless meetings. He had read so much.

Jacob listened to Soren and couldn't help the smile spread on his face. His heart raced a little at how luck he was to have Soren in his life. He chuckled at that and nodded. "Preparing to be set correctly. Huh. It's like you actually listened to some things I've said over the years." Jacob said with a laugh as he looked at him. "I think the only other thing bothering me is how far away you are right now. But you can keep telling me how amazing I am anyway." He said with a wink.

Josh knew that Hayden wasn't intending to throw this in his face. This wasn't intentional at all, this was just how it was. He caused the injury, and after he knew Hayden would be okay, he'd gone back to his apartment. Packed all his things and left to join him and the WLF. "I am not leaving your side. Though they might not let me in during the initial procedure, but before it starts and after. I'll be there. I need.." He paused softly. "I need to help fix it. If that's getting supplies and then helping you at any point."

Alex smiled as he watched Nate try and start his reading again, and even though he got some done, he noticed that he stopped looking at the book. Alex just sat beside him and listened happily. ​

Soren shrugged. He was a good listener for the most part. He liked to think that if something were to happen to them when they were out and about, he would know enough to survive until then could get back to Jacob. And then Jacob would save him. He was sure of it. “Well that is upsetting. I can see why you’re so bothered.” He turned so that he could put his foot on the ground and also so that he could he could scoot himself right up against Jacob. “Is that better my devilishly handsome husband? My brilliant husband who can do anything that he sets his mind to.”

Hayden sighed knowing where Josh’s mind was going. “You have already done so much to fix it. For three years, we have been working on fixing our mistakes. Our mistakes, Josh. Both of ours.” He was happy to have Josh trying to atone for the past, but this was not just him. He and Hayden both did this. If they had ever once been more communicative and willing to hear the other perspective, he knew this would not have happened. “So if you want to be in there, do you think Jacob can really tell me no? If we do this, I want you to be comfortable with it. I want you by my side. And then…” Hayden grinned. “When I am beyond frustrated, I want you there to get me through it. Because I’m going to need you if we are going to do this again.”

After a while, Nate pushed away from the books and blink several times. “No one ever tells you that if you look at the same word over and over too many times that it stops being a word. It must be like if you say it too many times.” He leaned against Alex and yawned. “They also never tell you that too much research can make your brain consider exploding.” He rested his cheek against his shoulder. “If my brain explodes, would you mind putting it back together for me?”

Jacob looked at Soren, hearing him and chuckled softly, watching him out a foot down on the ground. He watched him scoot closer and was right up against him. Jacob leaned into him, head on his chest. “Mm. Much better.” He replied as he sat there. “Keep going. I’m liking this.” He added with a teasing smile as he looked up at Soren.

Josh listened to Hayden and sighed, nodding. Ever since Kai ran away three years ago, they’d been working on fixing both of their mistakes and he knew that. “I will be there. Every step of the way. And while I don’t think I could watch it happen, I’ll be there when you’re frustrated and when you need me. If this is what you want.. I’ve got your back baby.”

Alex watched as Nate pushed away from the books. He listened to him as he felt Nate lean against him. The yawn was adorable and Alex chuckled softly. He felt the cheek rest against his shoulder. “Yes beautiful. If your brain explodes, I’ll put it back together. Would you like to take a break? We have some time before dinner. We can always take a walk through town.”​

“Keep going?” Soren asked as he registered the many points of touching. He slid a hand across Jacob’s chest. “Did you want me closer, oh valiant knight who can save anyone without the slightest effort?” He swung his leg around so that he could be on top of Jacob. All of his weight was on the legs that straddled him. “How’s this then?” He played with the hems of the fabric of the shirt that Jacob wore. “Are we… relaxing?”

Hayden stopped walking, tugging on Josh to get his full attention. “What do you want? We are in this together. I don’t want you to just go along with this, because I want it. We have spent too much of our lives living that way. Living separately and dealing with each other’s decisions. I don’t want that anymore. I never did.” He placed both hands on Josh’s cheeks. “So what do you want?”

Why was he perfect? Alex was perfect, and it would have been unfair except that it wasn’t and he loved that about him. Nate nodded and stood up, keeping close to his partner. “A break is probably the smarter way to go. A brain explosion sounds like it would be really difficult to put back together, you know? All that brain everywhere. Lots of little tiny pieces. We’ll never find it all. Someone will step on it. And then we’ll be like ‘oh no, where did the part of Nate go that knew how to medic? Oh, shoot, it’s on Asher’s foot.’ See, tragedy.”

Jacob looked sat Siren, moving away from him a little as he heard his words. He felt the hand slide across his chest and he bit his lip. “I’d love for you to be closer.” Jacob said, the words warming his heart up. He watched as Soren swung a leg over and was straddling him. The feeling of his fingers playing with the hem of his shirt made Jacob grin. He placed both hands on Soren’s shirt and pulled, bringing him into a deep and fervent kiss. Then he pulled away a little. “I think we’re on the right track for relaxing..”

Josh felt the tug when Hayden stopped walking. He turned to face his husband, not expecting it. What did he want? He hadn’t thought of what he wanted for years. It was always for Hayden. He felt the hands on his cheeks. “What do I want? I want you to be happy. But I also want to be able to go on hikes and picnics, dates and other things.” Josh admitted, looking at Hayden. “And if this can make those possible again then I’m okay with it.”

Alex stood up a second after Nate did, and he laughed, hearing him. “Well. Would you like to go walk around the town? Because I would hate for you to have your brain explode. I’d never find all the pieces.” He said with a laugh, holding Nate’s hand happily.​

Kisses like those were going to be the reason that he forgot all of his duties. They already had been for years. Years and years. Thankfully, Hayden only ever got upset when Kai was late and not them. If he ever decided to be upset about that… Well, he’d never be happy again. Jacob pulled away, and Soren groaned. “On the right track? Then I guess I’ll have to try harder.” He decided that meant the kiss that just ended needed to start up again. Briefly. After a passionate kiss of several seconds, he pried himself away, lips just an inch away. “We could try some nice, relaxing rubs.” His hands moved beneath his shirt to run down his chest. They courted with Jacob’s back. “Nothing is more relaxing than rubs.” These were not relaxing rubs. He coupled them with not at all relaxing neck kisses.

Hayden was about to scold him for being selfless in this, but then the selfish wants came. That was what he needed Josh to admit. There were things that he wanted that weren’t just making Hayden happy. “I want you to be happy, but I can’t make you happy like this. We’ve tried that, and I know that overall we are, but I…” He let go of Josh and stepped away so that he was on his own. He stepped forward as fast as he could with how upset his leg was after messing with it. It was not very fast. He turned back, moving even slower as he walked backwards. “I hold you back. I always have, and I am so sorry.” He lifted his hands and summoned Josh to catch up. He pointed behind Josh. “You see those mountains? If you follow a path down, it leads to a stream. Some of the patrols tell me it’s absolutely beautiful. So we are going to do that. We are going to go on a date where we hike to our picnic. I am going to be happy. You are going to be happy. And then because we’re happy, we are going to be even happier, because when was the last time we got to be truly happy together? Without interruptions from my leg? Because it is a mood killer.” He laughed at the last part. “And I am going to race you home, and we can see if those track days of yours are gone or not.” He wrapped his arms around Josh’s neck. “And maybe I can prove to you that I’m not so old either.” He chuckled again. “Because it’s been a long time since I could do anything quite like we used to. And I want to do that yes, because that would make me happy, but because it will also make you happy.”

Nate pantomimed an explosion around his head, sound effects an all. “Oh no,” he drawled as he looked at the ground. “There went Nate’s ability to do a surgery. That really puts a damper on our plans. Oh, and there went his ability to sew up those infected claw wounds. At least he can see massage Alex’s inevitable back injury. Wait, nope, there it went.” He looked up and shrugged before finally shaking his head. “Exploding brain equals bad.” He reached for Alex’s hand and pulled him away from the desk. “We should for sure take a walk before that happens.”

Jacob had never thought that kissing someone could be as intoxicating or even addictive like kissing Soren was. He heard that groan when he pulled away and chuckled low, looking at him. He arched an eyebrow as heard Soren's question and before he could respond, that passionate kiss was initiated again. And then the lips were gone, an inch away from his own. Jacob bit his lip as he felt the hands beneath his shirt, and the rubs on his back. and the kisses on his neck. Jacob huffed as he pushed his head back against the couch. "This is much more.. relaxing." Jacob said, his hands running up Soren's back and onto his shoulders.

Josh listened to Hayden's words and he watched him let go and step away from him. He was confused at first, but swallowed hard. It wasn't just Hayden's fault, because Josh had caused the accident. He didn't say a word, though his face drew towards the mountains before he caught up to Hayden. "I don't know how long it's been since we got to be truly happy together. And I'm going to hold you to that race beautiful." Josh told him feeling those arms wrap around his neck, and his eyes widened hearing that. "It certainly has been a long time, and I think I might need a reminder that you aren't an old man."

Alex chuckled, seeing that pantomimed explosion around Nate's head and shook his own head. He watched, and felt Nate take his hand. "Yeah, let's go for a walk. I'd be very sad if I didn't have your massages anymore." He said, turning to walk out of the medical building. "Left or right?"​

That kind of reaction was exactly what he was looking for. They had been together a long time. They spent many years learning each other. There was nothing that Soren knew quite like Jacob. He brought his wandering hands back to Jacob’s chest and shoved all that pesky fabric out of the way. “I think I know just the remedy for this relaxation predicament.” He trailed kisses across, around, and down Jacob’s chest. Those wandering hands with a whole new purpose.

Hayden really wanted that happy again. It had been so, so long. It was not just the leg. The leg was a physical reminder of the mental frustrations of their unfortunate circumstances. What if they could take out that barrier? He slid his hands to the back of Josh’s neck as he smiled, pulling them as close as he could manage. “Do you feel better now? I want this to be something good and positive for us.”

“Left!” Nate announced without thinking at all. “My mama told me to never even consider it and always go left. Because then if you always go left, you always know which direction you’re going, and eventually you will make it back around the building.” He shrugged as he swung their hands. “I’m sure that made a lot of sense inside of a building, but in a town, I feel like I can still get lost. Since I have. A lot.”

Jacob hummed in contentment at the kissing across his chest and looked at Soren. "I think we might not be making it to dinner." He muttered as his hands hooked around Soren, and he found himself distracted by those wandering hands of his husband.

Josh felt the hands slide to the back of his neck and he smiled back, feeling them as close as possible. His blue eyes looked at Hayden as he heard him. "I do feel better. And I want this too, selfishly, because I want to do everything we used to do. This will be good." He said, leaning in and kissing Hayden deeply for a few minutes before he pulled away.

Alex laughed hearing Nate and turned that way. "Oh, well that makes sense. And for you? That's a good way to try and prevent yourself from getting lost." Alex said with a smile on his face. "Though, in a town it might be a little harder to just go left." He said with a snort of laughter, feeling their hands swing between them. "So, how are you feeling about this place so far?"​

“No,” Soren hummed as he left another kiss. “No, I don’t think that we are.” He trailed them up to Jacob’s neck when he deepened them, leaving no space between them anywhere he could remedy that. He lifted his lips to Jacob’s ear, and in a deep voice already ready for more, he whispered, “I think I like it better here anyway. Relaxing.” Because he was just getting started.

They had shared many kisses like this, especially in the last few years as they worked so hard to fix their relationship. This one hit so differently though. When the kiss ended, Hayden was smiling. “I love you. More than sharks.” He laughed just a little. He kissed him again, though just as their lips touched, from afar, someone yelled, “Get a room!” Hayden whipped his head around, cranky at the interruption though he had forgotten that they never made it home. Theo and his big goofy grin waved as he walked the other direction. Hayden huffed. “That boy is lucky I do not have an entire militia under me anymore.”

Nate shrugged. “My mama could only prepare me so much before my own failings got the better of me.” He laughed as he looked around. “Well, we’ve been put on probation like we did something bad, but they gave us a farmhouse anyway. And we’ve been here for like two seconds and you already found horses and I already found surgery?” That was a strange thing to say out of context. “And everyone is so kind even if that one guy looks at all of us like he’s always angry.” He swung their hands as he took over this working town. He waved to a couple of kids as they ran through the street. “What about you?”

Josh blinked as he heard Hayden and smiled warmly. “And I love you more than running.” He replied. As they were about to kiss, he heard the yell and his head moved to locate the source. And then he saw Theo, Elijah was right behind him having just gotten out of work for the day. “Oh he’s just playing around beautiful. Come on. Let’s head home.” Josh said, kissing Hayden’s forehead with a chuckle and then flicked his gaze towards Theo’s retreating back.

Alex laughed softly as he looked at Nate. “That’s why I’m here.” He said as he heard him. “Right. We’re fitting in.” He agreed and then saw the kids as Nate waved to them. “I like this place so far. It feels like we’ve finally found somewhere we can stay and make a life. No more traveling.”​

Hayden rolled his eyes they started heading back to their home again. Hmm, no, he was not okay to leave that alone where it was. He peered over his shoulder, the two not too far away yet. “Elijah!” he called. “Remind Theophilus to behave. He knows what I can do if he does not.” He took Josh’s hand in his own and kept walking. Theo, from afar, laughed because he certainly did know what his secondary set of parents could do even now that they were in Jackson instead of with the WLF.

Yeah, that was why he had Alex. That and so many other reasons. “It’s like the world just lined up for us.” No more traveling. That sounded amazing. He spent so much of his life constantly moving around. He never had somewhere that he could stay. It was a bit strange. He still felt like this was temporary, because it always had been his whole life. Even back at their base, it never lasted too long. “Alright, when do I get bread?”

Josh chuckled as he watched Hayden peer over his shoulder and heard him call to Elijah. He shook his head as he felt Hayden take his hand and they kept walking, heading back towards their home, and Josh felt much better about this surgery. Elijah nodded and waved to Hayden before looking at Theo. "Why do I get the feeling that there is more to that statement then even I know?" Eli asked as he took Theo's hand, with a curious expression on his face.

Alex looked at Nate and nodded with a grin on his face. "That's exactly it. See? We just had to find this place where everything is coming up for us." Alex said with a happy smile. He looked at Nate at that question and shook his head with a chuckle. "Well, first step is to find out where to get seeds to grow the wheat, although with this town, I wonder if they have a place already growing wheat and perhaps they could use some help so we can earn bread." He said before his eyes caught on figures up ahead of them. "Theo! Eli!" Alex called, waving them over, he wanted Nate to meet his friends, more than the quick introduction from yesterday.​

Hayden grinned as they moved to their house, and he pushed open the door. “How long do we have until dinner? My leg is telling me that it is most definitely time to sit down and not ever move again.”

Theo shook his head. “Kai’s dad used to be… intense. I mean, he still is. But it was… a lot. A lot a lot.” He looked over his shoulder again, but they were already gone. “You remember when I said we ran off that one time? Yeah, that was because he banned us from like existing. Not exactly that. It was just he-“ A voice interrupted his thoughts and he swiveled around again to see if he could see who it was. “Alex!” He dragged Eli with him to meet the other two in the middle of the street. “I was just talking about Hayden and how he almost ruined our lives! But not yours, you beautiful man!” He threw his arms around Alex. “I know I saw you yesterday, but I have missed you sooooo much!”

Josh looked at that grin and snorted a laugh as they headed into the house, shutting the door behind them. "I think we have like three hours until dinner. So we can sit on the couch, and I can grab the footstool so you can prop your leg up or we can go upstairs and lay down."

Eli's eyes widened as he listened to the story. "Yeah?" He asked, then his eyes widened as he heard the reason. Ban them from existing? Not even his people were that bad. He heard the interruption and turned as he heard Theo's cry and he was being dragged towards the other two. Alex laughed as they met in the middle of the street. "I remember you talking about that." Alex said as he wrapped his arms around Theo in a hug, and then laughed. "I missed you too buddy." Alex replied, smiling at Theo. ​

Hayden rolled his head to the side as he looked at Josh. “Have I ever told you how much I hate that you are so good to me?” As he asked, he smiled wide. “How about instead you tell me what you want to do, and I can set myself up wherever you are.”

Nate raised his hand. “Um, did you say almost ruined your lives?” He was curious. Very curious. Theo pulled away after feeling sufficiently hugged and nodded. “Oh yeah, right, so Kai and I were… reckless sometimes, and Dad didn’t like it, and Papa tried to help us out, but you know sometimes you gotta just go, and actually to be fair, the last straw was when we were trying to talk to you guys, and then Dad was so quiet, and that is even scarier than when he gets all loud and barks orders, and then he looked at Kai and was like ‘I’ve never been so disappointed’ and then banned us from ever leaving again.” Sometimes when Theo was in the moment, he forgot whose parents were whose. Kai’s two dads did make it easier when dealing with the mothers situation. “Or doing anything? Because then there were no more patrols? I think we might have been trapped forever.” He slid his arm around Alex’s shoulders. “He’s better now. Mostly. Anyway, that’s just one crazy thing he did. Oh, and when I say crazy, I mean the night before he had the entire group searching for us- that was still us trying to get you that note. There’s more. So much more.” He eyed Eli. “You remember last week? That was good of him.” His eyes widened.

Josh chuckled and shook his head as he looked at Hayden, seeing that wide smile. "Nope, you've never told me that." He said before he nodded, heading into the living room and sitting down on the couch, patting the seat beside him with a grin. "Come join me my love."

Alex watched as Theo pulled away and listened, knowing exactly what he was going to say. This was not the first time Alex has heard this story. Alex did look at Theo with an arched eyebrow. "Sometimes?" He asked with a snort of amusement. "Says the one who toppled a set of fire escape stairs.." Alex added as he looked at Theo. "I have to admit, I never met Hayden back then, or that I can remember anyway, but he seems a lot calmer here, wait. What happened last week?" Alex asked as he felt the arm over his shoulders. Eli had also heard these stories, though he only knew Hayden as he was now, not like he was back then.​
