Fantasy The Calm After War (Always Open and Accepting)

Arabelle refrained from rolling her eyes when she saw his tent, and she obeyed him in silence. It was clear that she was still uncomfortable with him, but she was probably only a few days away from losing her mind so it wasn’t much of a priority. Not dying came first.

Avery's Tent

"This is confidential information and stays between us," Avery said. He was about to see all of her memories.
Avery lit some candles in a circle around Arabelle, humming softly as he did so. After a minute of that relative silence, he addressed her. "Alrighty. Here we go. I'll target the nightmares keeping you awake at night. Close your eyes and go to sleep." The spell he was using was called Whisper. When he speaks to someone, the words place the suggestion in their head and affects their brain, making them really want to obey. The more he said it, the more it weakened their resolve until all that was left was to obey. It was a VERY highly effective form of Hypnosis that would guarantee success at some point, with the strong minded taking longer to influence and the only other criteria being their will to do what he tells them. For example, he could easily tell a pirate to revolt if the pirate hated their captain in a few seconds. On the other, it'd take a good 2 years or so of NON-STOP using Whisper to finally convince Ari to leave Arabelle. That would most likely annoy Ari to no end and get his ass kicked for suggesting it the first time and upping those numbers to about a decade

In this case, if Arabelle really wanted to sleep, she'd fall instantly and Avery would get access to all of her memories to change. What WERE her worst memories?

Ari Waesmor

"The Elves hiring blades, the Orcs hiring blades, me telling you a battle is about to happen soon......... You're having a hard time connecting the dots, aren't you?" Ari said bemused. "War." A simple word that really needed no explanation further than that.

Since Arabelle was so utterly exhausted, she fell asleep within moments of him telling her to do so. However, the nightmares began immediately. Some of these things that tortured her had happened to her before she knew any of her team, and even Ari didn’t know about them. Her first nightmare was from when she was about nineteen and met Leon. They had been captured while trespassing on another nation’s territory and were tortured for a month. This event was what finally snapped Leon and made him turn into the monster she later fought.

Raven looked at the young elven female private. Making his way over to her he leaned over sniffing her. “You...girl...what can you do?” He asked as he removed his armor on his upper body and his cloak, setting it aside along with his sword. Stretching a bit he yawned and shook off the notion of taking a nap. “I only ask because your comrades don’t seem to like you very much....if you’d like I could make you stronger....” Grinning as he took in a deep breath, his eyes starting to glow red, hearing every every heartbeat, seeing the blood pulse in her body. “I could give you nearly unrivaled power....better eyesight than you have now....and enough strength to crush your enemies skull with your bare hands, what do you say Evelyn?”

"Ahh war. That's what I thought. Why are the elves and orcs going to war? It's been a while since I've talked to another so I've not been caught up on news." Darian says, hoping to get some information as to why exactly these factions are choosing war to settle whatever reason this conflict is arising.

Avery looked though the memories. This was NOWHERE NEAR the first nor the worst he's seen. Still though, they weren't good. "Hmmmm. Paint writes a lot of sins, yet there are no tragedies here. That's good at least." Avery remarked. Let's get this fixed before she forcibly wakes up, he thought.

He opted for a different approach. He eliminated the nightmare memories completely instead of just change it. They were too numerous to change. When it came to changing memories, continuity was vital or you could break their minds. It had to be changed to where it still made sense, so it was easier to just temporarily eliminate them.

Evelyn
Frozen Plains Forward Camp
Evelyn was fearful to say the least. This was like the devil offering her a deal. The red eyes and evil grin weren't exactly helping. "I-I uh. I.......place traps and use sensory magic. I can't use a bow......." Her voice trailed off steadily as she spoke to the point where it trailed off completely at the end.

"Sergeant Waesmor said I have my own skills that are useful.......I......" She got fidgety. ".......Will work with him. I'm sorry!" She bowed heavily, too overcome with fear now to look at him again. Whatever Raven was trying to sell, it wouldn't work on her, as she didn't desire to be powerful, but useful to the unit. There was a troublemaker in the unit who'd probably be willing to do such an offer. An archer guy who wanted to kill as many orcs as possible. "M-maybe Pvt. Caesar......." She shook her head. She didn't want to say anymore

Ari shrugged. Too much to keep track of politically. That was Bailey's job. He had his unit and sniper overwatch. "I don't care for the politics of this whole thing. I'm just here to fight. We were pretty left in the dark about everything. It was attempted to avoid all this though. Who are you anyways?"

Uriko

A week ago the boy managed to allude Allison and found himself in the hell week of training that Ari gave his platoon. It was exactly where Uriko wanted to be. Despite Ari's command Uriko stayed. He would have found the basic training the the soldiers went through to be somewhat less difficult than the adults, his life in the jungle taught him many things that the training course was refining in the soldiers, if Ari hadn't taken special care to give the child 'special' training. Every night, after the standard soldier training, Ari and Uriko fought. Uriko didn't stand a chance. With each defeat Uriko would go berserk and Ari would put a swift end to it.

With each fight they had Uriko showed minor improvement. This was proof that he had the natural talent to be a warrior. The improvement was negated by his lack of control for his werewolf transformation, which only acted on instinct. Uriko did manage to obtain minor control on the final night of training with a partial transformation.

Now Uriko sits in a room with Ryan and Willow. He held two daggers he crafted from the horns of a stag in each hand. "Ryan-ri, Willow-ri" He handed the siblings the dagger "For you. If things get scary, Uriko will be with you always" he then stood up and dusted off his butt. He was wearing a pair of baggy pants. Reminiscent of MC hammer, but plain and brown. On his torso he had a baige loose fitting long john shirt. He also had a white blanket wrapped around his shoulders like a scarf, the length of the blanket made it more of a cloak. His hair had already grown to the midsection of his back and part of it was pulled back into a ponytail while the rest hung freely; his hair grew at an unnatural rate, last week it was just reaching his shoulders.

"Uriko is going to get Mavrick and others." He said confidently. He was having too much fun training in the day and being terrified, by Ari, at night that he forgot to ask Ari to summon the wolf pack. With determination in his eyes he looked at the window of the room. He was gaging the weather. "Have to get to Ari first. So Uriko won't be here to protect you. You can always come." He wasn't sure where Allison was at the moment, but he knew she would be the first to stop her if she found out. The time was now or never

"I'm will eventually, three days is the longest I can go without sleep," Bailey said, waving him off. She still had a few things to do before she even thought about sleep, and one of those was make a plan for another push. The Orcs had the high ground, which kept the Elven troops from making any real progress. The Orcs were on their home turf, which was a blessing and a curse. See, the Orcs were forced up here years ago, and because they haven t truly adapted yet and because of limited resources, they're dying out. That didn't make them any less of a threat. While somewhat lost in thought, Bailey didn't realise that the people she was talking to to had walked off. Which left Bailey alone with her husband and Ozzy. When she left...he was mad at her. And Tyr could hold grudges for a while, and so Bailey assumed that he was still mad at her. And while it's not another stress she needed, she did need to talk to him. With a sigh, she approached him. "Hi, Tyr," She started, pausing because of the lack of ideas. "How are the kids?" Safety Hammer Safety Hammer

"Zap. Zap. Zap." Avery said in a sing songy voice as he struck each memory from her mind. "You're a real trooper, you know." Soon enough they were all gone.

Avery sat back as the nightmares finally stopped popping up. He was spent, having burned about 3 days worth of calories taking down the nightmares. While they weren't the worst he seen, they were definitely the most numerous.

Her sleep should be peaceful now. If anymore popped up, they'd be eliminated as well, but he was thorough with his memory probing. "Alright, sleeping beauty. Peaceful slumber should last at least until we're done out here." He made a mental note to permanently eliminate the memories that would come from the battles ahead. It was impossible to do this to any others as so much time has passed and 7+ years of continuity was impossible to assure. It'd take literally 12 hours of non-stop work, and that was impossible for him. The less time that passed, the less you'd have to worry about.

He stayed sitting and started writing. "The things I do for love," he said as he jotted things down in his notebook. "Ari owes me big time."

"I'll make some food myself later on. I also have to make something for Noam and Elaina. Since they're out though and we're going out to scout for potential ambush points soon, I'll just eat later." The kids were with Bailey and Tyr's, as in protective custody. They weren't on the field at all, just Elaina and Noam. Elaina were with the Clerics and Noam was right behind the Vanguard with the Battle Mages. For the past week, Ari had been going out of his way to avoid Tyr. Preparing for battle, Ari was put on the Archer Brigade, so it was fairly easy to avoid him. Ari wasn't the commander of the archers, but he had proven himself to be SO good by beating out the commander of the Archer Brigade in a shootout, that Ari was given a small unit to command on the side. A unit of about 20. The Commander of the Brigade had fucked him over royally by giving him mostly Privates and those who haven't fought very much or the trouble makers, but Ari would make it work. The commander REALLY didn't take his loss in front of the entire Brigade well. He though he was gonna challenge Ari and put Ari in his place, but no dice there. When Ari beat him, it was thorough humiliation. Here you go, Mr. Waessssssssssmmmor. Unfortunately, by the order of the Queen as per our wager, here is your unit. Make of them as you will and try to survive, the commander had told him. Luckily though, he had a High Archer who was on his side, despite the fact that he was defying direct orders from the commander of the Brigade. Together, they put the unit through physical and mental hell for 3 days straight, running battle drills non-stop from dusk to dawn. Night Ops, Near Ambush, Trap Setting, Target shooting, Sparring Matches. After a week, they knew what the fuck was going on. They weren't the best, but damn would they be efficient with what they knew

As for the stuff with Tyr, after the events of last week, there was just no point. Ari had decided to leave them alone and let them go about their own business, not even bothering to talk to him Telepathically...........and talking to Bailey only in telepathy and never outside of General of War stuff that she initiated. Just like Selra, Ari had a lot of soul searching to do and he had done so in the past week, but not enough apparently. Ozzy though....... Ari liked Ozzy. Ozzy could stay. Avery never shut the fuck up about Tyr though, which made Ari want to rip his hair out. Avery's hair, not his own. Those shiny long luscious locks were there to stay. "Speaking of which, where is he in this battle?.....and you for that matter?"
"Me? Oh, I'm a mage. I can do summoning spells like you!" Ozzy said, getting kinda excited. He liked to talk about himself As Ari began to walk away, Ozzy just followed along and listened, awaiting eagerly for another chance to speak. "I use holy summoning magic. I'm the youngest first year graduate of my class of mage college, you know! Can I show you what I can do?"

Tyr was sitting by the fire, cooking some eggs and a thick slice of bacon when his wife came over. He had gotten hungry, and seeing how no one was using this fire, he decided to use it to cook. As Bailey walked over, he was flipping the bacon.
"Wouldn't know. You won't let me use the comm crystal."

Pvt. Avery Valencia
Avery's Tent
"Zap.

"Oh yeah, it's not like you just spent a week with them before you got here like 20 minutes ago; while I couldn't even see them before I left," Bailey replied with a very sarcastic tone. So, he was still mad at her. Bailey didn't see why, the whole reason they got into a fight before was stupid. It didn't make sense, and she should have just dropped it. But of course, thay was to much to hope for. Bailey just kinda sighed though, running a hand though her ponytail, but the action or rasued her arm caused her to wince. "Damnit," she muttered under her breath, "That still hurts." But you know what, she didn't need to talk to her husband is he was just gonna act like a little passive aggressive dick head. "Mind if I-"

"General Del-Lanis, I have the list you wanted," A young cadet under Herah's command came up from the left, holding a small stack of papers.

"Thank you," Bailey replied, taking it from him, and sitting down.

"You're welcome milady!"

"You can go now." The cadet nodded, and turned on his heel, leaving Bailey and The behind as Bailey began to read over the list. Herah mad sure to put the most recent guards first, and her little notes about behaviour for each. Bailey had to smile, Herah could take a while, but she was through. Safety Hammer Safety Hammer

"Me? I'm not really anyone. Just a traveling mage, trying to expand my horizons and learn new spells." As Darian finished saying this, he realized that he was thirsty. He held his hand out, palm up and concentrated for a few seconds and as he did that a small blue magic circle appeared and a small orb of water appeared and flew into Darian's mouth.

"Uriko, you can't go alone. Dangerous. I'll go with you," Willow said, the makeshift dagger in her hand. She had no idea who maverick was, but Ari was far away. She didn't know exactly where, but she could always feel his magic presence. "Come on Ryan. You can't stay here alone." It was pretty much the kids and the kids alone here. All the adults were gone and the babysitters sucked. She was getting back to Ari

Ryan bit his lip. “I’ll come too. Mommy is there and I miss her, and it’s boring here.” He took Willow’s hand, he always did that when he was nervous.

Uriko

He nodded at the pair then made his way to the bed. From under it he pulled out a satchel filled with fresh fruit from this mornings breakfast. The bag contained more than food. It had basic survival supplies to build tents and make fire. It also had medical bandages. Being raised in a nomadic tribe gave the boy knowledge that he used to prepare.

He returned to the siblings, Ryan gripping Willow's hand in uncertainty. "Listen well" His voice was serious "This is the law of Jungle, as old and true as the sky. The wolf that keeps it will prosper, the wolf that breaks it must die." As he spoke his amber eyes peered deep into theirs, "The strength of the pack is the wolf," He placed a hand on each of their shoulders, "and the strength of the wolf is the pack" He paused for a second his flicking from brother to sister, "We stick together." He pulled back from them with his hands on his hips, "Get what you need. We leave soon"

Tyr raised an eyebrow at his wife, before resuming his focus on the food he was making. "All they did was talk about you." He said, flipping the bacon again. "Don't take it too personal, please, but I just wanna be alone for a bit." The giant bard asked with an awkward expression. "I'm hungry and kinda grumpy."

"You....very well," Bailey muttered, standing with a glare. "I'll leave you alone. Have fun." List in hand, Bailey calmly walked away, in the direction of her tent. One of the bigger ones that made up the forward camp, the same color as her cloak. Anyway, her steps were rather fast for someone who looked calm. Key word again, looked. Tyr could seriously piss her off, like beyond pissed. Really? He's kinda grumpy? Like hell she's not gonna take it personally. She's tired of Tyr being able to act like this, and then when Bailey comes along with the slightest increase of expectations, she's suddenly the bad guy, not the giant child she apparently married.

She rather harshly entered her tent, tossing the list onto the table with various papers, maps, and a few other weapons. She then sat down on her cot, picked up her pillow, and hurried her face in it to let out a scream of frustration. Getting up, she began to angrily pace, before she started to kick the trunk at the end of her cot. And a few other things people do to let out anger before the shouting and other noises of things breaking and being kicked, her tent became quiet. Bailey sat back down on her cot, her forehead pressed against the palm of her hands as she calmed down.

Tyr internally groaned at how that came out. "Wait, Bailey.." He started, setting the pan down and following her back to her tent. He knew he had fucked up with that, and had instantly begun regretting what he had said as soon as he said it. God he was stupid. When she entered her tent, he decided it would be best if he just stayed outside. "Bailey I-" He was cut off by the sound of Bailey shouting and kicking something.

Right then, he decided it was time to go.
