Realistic or Modern The Beginning of the End

Adelaide sat with her back against her bed's headboard, books littered across the mattress. She flipped trough the pages of the nearest health book with her left hand while jotting notes down with her right. Throughout the last month or so of being in town, despite it not being an immediate danger, she was still obsessed with learning more about health. As the ink reached the bottom of the page Adelaide sighed and glanced up at the alarm clock on the dresser. 3:47 glowed brightly back at her in the dimly lit room. Adelaide smiled slightly and shook her head. The time on the clock wasn't right. It hasn't been since she moved in, always stuck at 3:47. Even if Adelaide wanted to fix it to it's proper time she couldn't. Nobody knew the proper time anymore. Time doesn't matter when the world is coming to it's end. Still, the red glowing numbers seemed to comfort the young girl and she couldn't help but find her gaze shifting over to it every once in a while.

With a small yawn Adelaide closed all of the books, one after the other, and placed them on the night side table beside her. She gathered up her notes and set them down on top of the books. With another quick side glance at the clock Adelaide got up and walked out of her bedroom. Since moving in she was able to move out the previous owner's things. She found herself unable to just throw away everything of theirs and so she settled on just moving it all to another home. However, while cleaning out the house she found a box full of old empty picture frames. Adelaide couldn't explain why she felt the need for it, but she kept those old dusty frames and hung them around the house without pictures of any kind. Maybe she was hoping to be able to fill them with pictures of the family she has met since the beginning.

Adelaide grabbed a thin jacket and pulled it on, all the while humming to herself. She pushed the sleeves up to her elbows and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. Her red hair now hung nearly halfway down her back, but she couldn't find it within herself to cut it just yet.

Ten minutes later Adelaide walked into the diner and brushed her bangs back out of her eyes. "Hello?" She paused waiting for a response. She could not see anybody, but knew that Chef was most likely somewhere near. He never seems to leave his diner. Adelaide also now knew better than to surprise the older man. Something she quickly found out after an unfortunate morning involving hot bacon grease and a scorching arm. Adelaide rubbed her left arm at the memory of the burn. It wasn't a pleasant experience in the slightest, but at least she learned to always make it very clear when she arrived as to not startle Chef. (@DrTrollinski )

Chef walked out and looked at her after a minute or so, a cup of coffee and a plate of breakfast in hand. He walked up and set both of them down on the breakfast bar alongside a knife and fork - He was happy to see Adelaide again; she was one of the few people that actually came around to talk to him.

"Good morning, Adelaide." He smiled. ".. How did you sleep last night?" He asked as he inched the breakfast objects closer to her. (@october_rain)

"Yeah, I guess." He shrugged. "About teaching, do you think I'd be able to teach kindergarten and elementary? I'd like that." He smiled. (@Soul OMU)

Alex dashed into the house and instantly sprinted upstairs - he went into the bedroom and went to Hunter's side before placing the boxed up pregnancy tester beside Hunter on the bed. He put it there to be discreet. He didn't want Caitlyn questioning it. (@Soul OMU)

"Hey, it's okay." He smiled and kissed the top of her head. "I things sometimes, too." He smiled and laughed a little. ".. Mistakes happen, but don't worry, you're not in trouble." He said as he gently patted her head. (@DryPunishment)

(3 more hours and I'm all yours...kind of. I need to get a haircut today)

Skyler nods her head and does as asked again. "Alright." She states. A few minutes later she finishes with a huge grin on her face.

"Not too bad. It'll take us a few weeks to get a wall around the whole town, but it needs to be done." He smiled. He handed the sledgehammer to her and then picked up one of the pillars and carried it a couple a couple meters from the previous one. "You hit this one into place." He said as he positioned it. (@Aryn Harris)

Skyler nods her head again and hits is twice more. "Is that better?" She questions, running her fingers through her hair.

He stepped away and looked at it, taking a deep breath before nodding and picking up a few planks. "Yeah. That's good. Good work." He smiled and began nailing the plants to the two pillars. (@Aryn Harris)

Tom shrugged, "I dont know, I'll have to talk to Alex about it. We're starting to get enough people where we're gonna need rules and jobs. Eventually people who aren't friendly will come into town, an I just want to be prepared for that. So... Just be prepared for things to start changing okay?"

"I'll try, dad." He stopped him outside the hardware store. "When it comes down to jobs, I'll do what I can. I'll speak to Alex about me teaching - I wouldn't mind, at all." He smiled but then sighed a little. "When it comes to the kids, though... We'd need to teach the kids about out there, too. They need to know what to do if disaster hits us... I wonder what kinda jobs everyone else would do. I'd imagine Alex would be too busy keeping everything in check to work a proper job. Maybe he'd be the mayor or the governor." He chuckled and pushed the door open, holding it there for him.

"Shall we?" He asked. (@DrCompton)

"We could honestly use more help." He said, putting the stuff down after they'd put the panels up. "You want to come back to my house? I'll show you the room you could stay in." He offered. (@Aryn Harris)

"Sounds great." She states, and glances over at him. (Sorry if my replies are short. I'm sick and can't concentrate.)

"Alright." He said, smiling. He lead her back into the town and then went towards his small house; it was only two bedrooms, it wasn't a two floored house, either. "Here we are." He said with a smile. (@Soul OMU)

(@Soul OMU - you know? The posts from yesterday?)

Tom walked through the door and grabbed one of the large flat carts and starts to push it toward the lumber yard of the hardware store, "I dunno. I guess. Im not sure if he is exactly qualified to run a town. He did good running a group that was our size, but a whole town? Especially if we get more people. I think Scarlet or I would be a better choice, we both were NCOs in the military, we've lead people before." He shrugs, "Like I said, I'll talk to him about it."

Scarlet blinks at the sudden question and closes her eyes as she leans back. "I think it's more of a feeling you get from deep inside your whole being. I think you'll know if you notice all the little things they try to do for you. " she said softly while looking at him. (@DrTrollinski)

"You don't have to be military to be a leader." Eric said. "At most he'll make a committee, or a board. He brought us all here, so there's no chance of him giving up the leadership. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't even be here - don't underestimate him. He's a different kind of guy." He said, he paused for a few moments. "Plus, if things go well, this won't need to be a dictatorship." He added. (@DrCompton)

"Okay." He smiled, and then hugged her again. "Do you think you can love anyone? Like... Anyone you meet?" He asked. (@Soul OMU)
