Fantasy Tales of Arcadia

In the woods near Gaia. A small child stood there staring at the massive tree with blackened eyes. Her hair blowing softly in the wind as she shivered a little and rubbed her pale arms in a chill. Turning around to a big black cave she slowly walked in to find her little hut, wedged between two massive boulders with a fire infront of it . Sitting down at the fire she shivered some more before a darkness seemed to fill the cave. A deep demonic voice boomed softly through the cave. "My child... you are cold." It said softly as a thick black blanket appeared on the child's shoulders immediately making her smile as she wrapped herself in the blanket to warm up. "Thank you papa." She said softly as the voice spoke. "You are welcome my child. And I have a task for you my sweetheart. Go to the city. People there that will approach you I can assure that. Befriend them and follow them." The voice said to her as she nodded

Scribbling in her journal, a young girl, being careful not to be seen from across the bar, analyzed the enigmatic creature in the cage: an oddity in it's own right. Takes the form of a faeling, however has distinct features, notably the flora (though ematiated) sets it apart from the rest of faelings currently known. She noted the smooth texture of the skin of the creature. The Smooth, sangui noting the  wrong usage of the word sapp  "No that's too cliche." Barretta pondered as she came up with the perfect descriptor. The Smooth, saturated, and ichorous exterior, deems it not a Spriggan. Lack of wings rules out fairy or pixie. Dryad? No... the creature carries not the flesh of man. That also rules out it being a Treant. A marvel indeed. She continued to sketch and ponder the mysteries of a creature of unknown origin. What sort of magical wonders can you unlock, pretty thing? The artificer brought her hand against her satchel of funds handed to her from her mentor to supply her own research...

"I wonder..." She pondered aloud, suddenly hearing a deafening smack that silenced the halls... at least on her end.

"OI!!! ON YA MATE!"  stowing her notes away "What you gon' do that for, pisser!?" Obviously quite fumed that one would dare strike a marvelous creature. The nerve the hedgehog think he has? Barretta noting the horrid hairstyle he chose to adorn himself. "Ya hear me o' ya daft from that swill you wallow in?"

In the industrial district of the capital, a girl wasn't short many fights in her upbringing. Fights were how wagers were won. No hassle. You win or you lose. This thug seemed no different than the rest: Looks nor smell made him any more memorable than the slum trash that he was. If anything, this may as well end in a brawl. Being light on her toes gives me an advantage, she took note of the situation and scanned for other unruly characters, I may have to make use of my experiments.

What her experiments were, Were  machinations of forge and magic come together to make a magical focus for those of little magical ability. Runcrafting, Enchanting and Shard Splicing were the techniques utilized by Barretta in which she specialized in her studies under the Elven Wizard, Renathain, the Hermit. (Ironically, he's not actually a hermit... Barretta never knew where the title came from) Ms. Handchamber would carefully lock herself up for study and dissolve herself into her studies, meticulously experimenting with wards, runes, enchantments and shards to create marvels not normally ascertainable of a magic user of very little potency. There are at least two magic users in here... they might intervene.  She noted the faint vibration of  two charms of  her runestone necklace, etched in firesalts and twisted in manatouched silver. The runes would cause the charms to resonate with vibration if in proximity to sources that produce magical energies.

Nacrud watched what the people had said and noticed an elf who announced that he was about to play music. As he did the elf began to play and Nacrud's ears were not fond of the noise he heard. Shaking his head for a moment he adjusted himself to tolerate the music and spotted a look of disgust from someone at the bar table. No surprise, humans were a judgmental race that functioned off gossip and lack of knowledge. Hearing what the plant girl said he nodded, "Most races do. They see my kind as brutish beasts who have no drive other than the wilds. Granted there are dragonkin who are like that, many of our race are proud and noble, our ancestors guiding our lives, reminding us of the honorable race we are meant to be." He then started to walk to the one who had a look of disgust, speaking to the plant girl one last time, "Excuse me."

As he approached the bar he sat beside the one he saw give him a bad look. A few other patrons promptly moved a few seats away in fear of Nacrud, but he had gotten used to it. "Greetings human. I am Nacrud..." He thought about his words, choosing wisely before he spoke. "Judging a being does not define who they are, rather it defines who you are." Turning his head to look at the human he continued, "I do not wish to view all humans as blinded by judgment, however it seems they continue to show they are... tell me, are you too blinded or will you seek the truth as I do?"

-Damascus Silver-

If Lord Silver had only seen his son now, conversing with brutish beasts like dragonkin, he would go mad. Damascus almost chuckled at the thought, but the revolting knowledge that he was indeed conversing with a dragonkin restricted him from doing so. Damascus noticed how the people near him had moved away hastily, easily fearing the beast that had approached Damascus. The knight had never been approached by a dragonkin, and he now knew why it was so easy to be afraid; the beast was simply enormousAnd in tip-top shape too. It's armored body and physique intimidated Damascus, however, he made sure to keep his fear in check.

Damascus stared straight into the beast's eyes, his own grey gaze solid and piercing despite the fear building up in his body, listening to the beast, Nacrud's, words.

"I am not blinded," he answered just as carefully. "Rather, I would say enlightened. It would seem that the only beings that are being ignorant are the ones that think humans could ever coexist together with creatures like you. Perhaps the government should think about placing the evidently more dangerous creatures in cages rather than harmless sentient plants." Damascus looked at Nacrud, a challenge lighting up in his eyes. His lips displayed a ghost of a smile, almost seeming cocky.

These words were poisonous, and Damascus could feel all the men and women who were sane enough, looking at him, their expressions streaked with shock and confusion. Damascus could hear their thoughts, echoing in his head.

Is he crazy? He must be asking for a death wish..

He's got guts...dammit, he's got guts!

He's screwed; now all we gotta do is see the dragonkin's reaction...

((Just FYI, Warren is 5'3", and she is being kept in a Circus-Lion type of cage. Certainly not like a tiny plant-pixie, in case anyone was wondering.

Warren sighed. Great, more attention. She looked outside of her cage, the woman defending her an odd specimen. She was donned from head to toe in metal. She carried many items with her. Warren assumed she must be a mechanic, or an engineer, or something of the sort. She wasn't good at classifying humans just yet. If at her full height, Warren would probably stand shorter than her, though not by much. As the drunken man was distracted, she slipped her finger back into the lock, finished the job and popping open the cage. She was free at last, but the only problem was the fact the half the tavern was staring her way. She shook her head, stepped out, and wobbled a bit on her legs. They hadn't been used much in the past week, so it was a wonder they were still holding her up. From behind the man, she knocked him on the top of the head with her fist, hard, causing him to collapse.

"Well." The girl said, pausing to look around. "That should do it."

"Hmm.... you seem to be quite resourseful" Barretta circled around the vegitative being. She observed the wilted flower on her head and made her ponder, giving her idea. She took a decanter with a shard socketed within the spigot and lifted it above her head and spoke "Drizzle," pouring water created from the shard within the decanter to see if there would be a similar reaction to water as normal plants. She then waited in eager to observe.

Teftin slowly got to her feet, her eyes remaining on the being who had called itself "Evasus." It seemed wise and ancient, for one would need knowledge to simply wander the deserts. It also appeared to to be partly amused and surprised at Teftin's existence. It was true, for the girl had wandered farther than she ever had, and it was likely that no one had come across these ruins for quite some time.

"I... I am Teftin. I am... a nomad of these deserts, like my ancestors before me." The wind outside began to pick up once more, swirling Teftin's hair before her face and sending sand whirling about the house. Her eyes began to squint from it, and she knew that she didn't have much time until the storm really began. "Have you shelter? I have... Well, not shelter, but some protection."

@Cailfox

Warren closed her eyes and smiled. She touched her flower, feeling it's petals fluff up and come to life again. The vibrant color returned to the flower, and Warren stood a little taller. The fae thanked the alchemist, stepping towards the door.

@Latorrex

Evasus stared at the girl, "Nomads... a dying people in an evolving world. I am glad to meet one of the few remaining nomads on this world." Evasus then remembered the storm as she mentioned shelter. "I am always home, yet I have do not have shelter. Allow me to secure this place so that we may continue our exchange." Bending down slightly so Evasus could touch the sands beneath them it began to slowly draw what seemed to be a rune in the sand. As it was finished Evasus lightly touched it with its five fingers and the rune gave off a glow as the sand around them began to swirl around Evasus, sending its lustrous mane blowing around. The sand quickly covered the openings and solidified into stone, a small pool of water had also formed in one of the corners. As the breeze of the spell died down Evasus' mane settled down and it crouched where it stood. "Now then... allow me to explain who I am a bit better so that you may trust me. As I have said, I am known as Evasus. I cannot tell you what I am, nor can I tell you my age or past. I wander the world, watching as history is made. I have seen things that today's children could only dream to see, I have seen nightmares that frighten even me, yet I feel no true emotions other than curiosity. I know more knowledge than any being could ever fathom or understand. I know all, yet I still learn new things every day." Evasus kept quiet for several moments, allowing Teftin to process the words it had said. "Now that you know me, share what is on your conscious."

@Handabooo

"Hey hold up there lass." Taking note as to the positive reaction the water had had on her bearing, making the pigments in her skin and flower more vibrant. Apparently, she is just like a plant. She was no Spriggan or Treant because she had absorbed the water from bare contact with it. This was definitely a mystery that Barretta was bound to solve. The very thought of what she could be, made the young scholar salivate with delight. But how'm I gonna get more research for this? When in that moment, a rush of her inner legion of feelings came flooding her mind with questions and tests. How does she react to heat? Will cold get a similar response? What about raw magic? Could magic have brought her here?

She was most delighted in the outlook that new horizons of Artificy could be unlocked with just a small contribution from this delicate flower. That's it! I will persuade her to stay with me. She had thought to herself. Now filled with determination, She gives a thumbs up.

"You got a place to stay?"

Warren was glad she was finally free, and that the bar drew no protest. She was so close to the outside world, so close to her rediscovered freedom. Her mind raced with her new possibilities, the new plants she could find and the new traditions she could learn. She was a couple steps from the door, already forgetting about the mechanic, the draco, the wolfboy, and all the other oddities of the cavern. Then she heard the mechanic speak.

Warren stopped, staring at the door. At her exit, and cocked her head. "I am in no need of one." She replied, though she turned back to the mechanic. "Why must you ask?" she inquired, taking no steps towards nor away from the woman. She seemed to be well-intended, but humans had continuously been proving her wrong.

@Latorrex

"Jarvis you idiot..." Sebastian thought watching one of his employers get decked by the plant. She was quite an interesting creature, for many obvious reasons. As well as this other woman, dresses in head to toe in metal. Though she gave off the tough fighting type, yet she carried around a fat journal peeking out of one of her pockets. Which meant two things, she's either soft on the inside, or she is also a scholar. Sebastian naturally figured it was the latter.

After looking around the bar, no other townsfolk decided it was worth trying to get the plant back. She started towards the door, free to do as she pleased, before turning back towards the scholar. They conversed about something Sebastian couldnt hear. As they spoke, he finished up his second Ale, stood up, and walked over to the bar. Asking for one more and putting his coin on the table, he was able to ease-drop on the dragonkin's conversation with a human, whom seemed of nobility.

'Its quite a hopeless battle, humans will always be judgemental and prejudice. There is no way to change that, its their nature.' Sebastian thought, drinking from his new drink.

"Still taking jobs?" The man asked from behind the bar, the owner himself. Sebastian had done work for the man before; he was an honest man that gave honest work. Though this job was different.

"Depends on the job..." Sebastian said with a neutral voice. He didn't really want to start anything new with all the commotion going on.

"Its very simple, I want you to follow that plant girl. My boss has a very strong interest in the freak." The man said with disgust. "Just make sure she doesn't die anytime soon. My boss is rather wealthy, as you know." The owner pulled out a satchel from behind the bar, then a bag with gold. "3000 gold upfront, 5000 on capture. You wont have to capture though, his men can do that part. Sound like a deal?"

The tavern owner's boss was the leader of a gang that lives in the foothills north if here. A group of extremely tough mercenaries and mages and war beasts, its like a guild for anyone that loves to mindlessly kill. Wretched people, not to mess with.

Yet the money was very tempting. He wasn't one to lust over things, but that was a lot of money. He did mercenary work and odd jobs to help people, and morally this was not right. But still a lot if money... He grabbed the bag of gold off the counter and took a large swig of Ale.

" Deal..." He said in a low voice. The tavern owner nodded his head and Sebastian turned to observe the room again, throwing on his black cloak and hood. He glanced at the dragonkin. 'Maybe we will meet again...' He thought. Sebastian wanted to see the world, meet all the races, but a dragonkin would have to wait.

Melody seemed quite shocked as she stepped through the door and back into the tavern,

her hands still holding the basket of various fruits and vegetables she had purchased for

that nights meal at the tavern, though soon she lost her balance and collided with Warren.

She didn't fall, but some of the ears of corn and tomatoes tumbled from the makeshift

assortment she held. She yelped rather loudly as she seemed to collect herself from her

stance with one hand precariously holding the basket to her chest, hand on the green skin

of the sentient plant  in front of her and her back against the frame of the kicked open door.

"I-I am s-so sorry!"

Melody blabbered as she tried to keep her balance as well as keep the sentient plant from

bobbing over either, the task causing her to stretch herself rather uncomfortably. Her pale

blue eyes had widened upon seeing the green.. skin..? beneath her fingertips. She seemed

to retract her hand out of  comfort for herself as well as comfort of the woman..? in front of her

very eyes. She used the frame of the door to keep herself from tumbling over and began to

raise herself, deciding to wait on the vegetables that had fallen and hoping they don't get

kicked around before she eventually found her way back to them.

"B-Best apologies!"

Melody stood as she soon wrapped her hands around the basket, trying to adjust herself with

the basket in arms, her head bowing towards her, her apron having been bunched and scrunched

in the process- the bandanna in her hair keeping her loose curls from shrouding her freckled and

slightly tanned face. She knew it was going to be a busy evening within the tavern, so she simply

waited for the woman to have her reaction before rushing back to prepare the dinner for the nightly

customers that frequented the Tavern after a long day.

Warren whirled around, just in time to collide with a woman who seemed to be very busy. She fell to the floor, dazed and confused. The large flower on her head bounced up and down, up and down, before the fae held it and stopped its motions. She got up slowly, sighing as she looked up at the girl.

Just intervention after inte- ohmygodwhydoesmystomahfeellikethis.

Warren's eyes caught on the girl that had bumped into her, and in her stomach she felt a thousand fireworks. She observed the way the curls fell over the girl's shoulder and how her piercing blue eyes shot through the room. Her feet were stuck where they were, and her heart felt like it dropped down to the ground.

"No worries! It's all good! I'm fine! Are you ok?" She asked, spitting out a string of words almost too fast to comprehend.

@Kasuu

Looking at the scene that played out before her, Barretta decided to act on this opportunity. "Well... Um... My name is Barretta Handchamber. I've been observing you in that cage and I found you quite interesting." She leaned in to whisper, allowing the girl to hear. "I would like to explain outside of mixed company and within safer quarters." Barretta's eyes looked towards the girl that had bumped into her enigmatic anomaly. The barmaid was a homely lady, quite different to herself, both in physique and temperment. She was so polite as to have not noticed the vegetables that had dropped upon the ground in her blusterment. The artificer bent down ad picked up a cucumber and a couple carrots that lay before the bar:  They were fresh and undamaged in the kerfuffle, good enough to put into a stew. Held the vegetables up for the barmaid, trying to not have her get flustered any more than she has. "It'd be waste ta not use these." She said smiling.

Wait a minute... with an interesting creature like this, there may be little time to actually get meaningful research done. Her eyes darted between the two and finally she came up with a conclusion, signaled by her fist landing in her other palm. She snapped her fingers and pointed to the barmaid "How much d'ya make in a month?"

The lady seemed competent and able to stand on her two feet and really all she needed was an extra pair of hands... but can she read and write? Barretta wondered, taking that into consideration later for the Barmaid has already heard of her intention and may tell her employers about the whereabouts of a green skinned sentient plant. Oh what a bother, she thought, Now I have to dip into my research funds just to keep people from causing trouble. The artificer's spirit noticeably dropped momentarily.

"Well... I could possibly pay you double... meals included?" A sigh passed her lips.

Melody's eyes seemed to soften from their intense glare after finding that the

leaf lady was fine. She gave a small sigh as she used her free hand to try helping

her up and keeping her steady after the encounter. She seemed relieved as her

gaze dropped embarrassed, her cheeks engulfing each other into the warm peach tone.

"I-I am afraid I am not worried about myself as much as I am you.."

She murmured, her gaze occasionally looking up to the tavern owner and then back to

the ground, letting out a relieved sigh- quietly hoping this kerfuffle wouldn't be taken

noticed by him. Respectfully she turned her head to Baretta now, looking between the

green lady and the woman donned in such attire. Melody's head bowed as she spoke

to the Leaf Lady and kept her voice from speaking while not being spoken too. She

brought her hand away from Warren and then used it to adjust the basket in her arms.

She looked over the surface of the cucumber and then a small sigh escaped her.

"I had known I forgotten something, th-"

In the midst of her talking she looked up to the woman as the job offer donned on her.

She seemed quite shocked, her blonde rimmed eyes widening. And at the money she

was being offered once again took her by surprise.

"Wh-Wha..?"

She looked more confused than intrigued, as it was obvious she was still getting her own

bearings straight. She seemed to tense while she lowered her eyes to the ground. Her hands

began to grip along the whiker basket and seemed to lace together, her stance being one of

unease. She simply spoke quietly, her tone being respectable- not wanting much to do with

strangers- not so much that she simply was interested.

"I-I have a job here and the pay is decent.."

(Oh it's alright, I already know he has no armour. I'm just describing his scales that way XP)

Why should a beastly creature such as this one know his name? Damascus considered not answering to the question, but he had no choice. It seemed Nacrud only wanted to talk. Strange; the way his father had described dragonkin were far from similar to this dragonkin. "Damascus Silver," he answered smoothly. "Son of the noble Lord Silver, an honorable part of the government's guard." Nacrud's size only seemed to grow bigger, sending more fear hammering into Damascus's heart. A little spark of fright glazed over his eyes for a few moments, but Damascus composed himself a second later.

"As if you know any better," he retorted. "Humans and beasts will never coexist together. A foolish dream such as yours will never be achieved. The government has no intent in changing the current ways, and it will only stay that way." As Damascus finished, he caught the sight of three women; a dark-skinned woman in impressive armour, the sentient plant from before, and a stuttering, seemingly shy blue-eyed girl. The sentient plant was about to leave, and he wondered, for a fleeting second, if he should go get her back. After all, she could be the property of the bar, and she was escaping. Who knew?

Necrud gave a hearty chuckle, "Perhaps it is but a foolish dream but I still have faith in it." He turned his head ever so slightly to see the commotion before returning to his talk with Damascus. "I believe that one day we may live in peace, but I agree that current customs will not be changing any time in our lifetimes. Let alone our children's lifetimes." Necrud then stood from his seat, his height becoming a problem as he was still somewhat crouching within the building, and gave a small bow to Damascus. "I hope we meet again Damascus Silver. It was refreshing to chat with a human without a pointed blade. I must depart now and return to my journey." Walking past the commotion he slipped out of the door and began to walk down  the street of the desert town. Hopefully he would be out of the desert shortly.

"And to you," noting the barmaid "Would 10 (1000 gold) sovereigns be a fair wage? I'm sure the average wage was four sovereigns last I heard being a worker's monthly..." I sure hope half of my monthly allowance is gonna be enough. That hermit makes me do a lot of work and divies out my funding. She was banking on this wager, giving a marvel of magical wonder security and a barmaid a better paying job for reseach advancement and a confidential assistant. Barretta couldn't afford to let her get captured... how else was she going to get an up close study? "Come on... Good pay and some security would benefit you. Whatchya say?... I have plenty of supplies to cross the dessert."

She extended her hands as to gesture a handshake in front of both of them, grinning.

Melody's stance shifted as her eyes widened more so in shock. She seemed to

visibly gulp, her hand dropping from the plant lady and then to the ironclad woman.

She seemed conflicted through hope glimmered in her pale gaze. After several

seconds of absently minded blinking she soon let her arms tighten around the

basket in her arms as it seemed to slip slightly from her unconscious grasp.

"I-I.. That is q-quite the offer, Ms. Handchamber.."

Her gaze lowered as she seemed to drop to follow along the grains int he dirty floor.

She remembered the morning of having sweep and then mop. Then drying them down

only to have to rewash the towels. And the constant process of doing so. Day in and day

out! She worked herself like an Ox for some Innkeeper. She seeked to tense slightly as

the weight of the situation had soon donned on herself, causing her to grow faint.

T-Ten sovereigns! Ten!

She bit her lip in anticipation, she could use the extra money.. Though..

"A-Are there any re-requirements..?"

She looked up from the floor as her eyes soon found the rich chocolate of Baretta's eyes,

her stance seeming to strengthen- perking up as she asked the question that could make

of break the deal. She had raised her hand to lightly hover in the air, not yet reaching forward

to take her hand- instead keeping it to herself so she doesn't make any promises she wouldn't

be able to keep. Occasionally her eyes drifted over to Warren as she parted, deciding she

shouldn't bother the lady any further.

"All ya got to be able to do is read, write, and be able to travel with me as my assistant." She leaned in and brought her under her arm, whispering. "I just need extra hands for my research." Barretta took notice of the patrons of the bar. I hope no one intervenes. The bar looked packed as the patrons take shelter from the hot dessert, partaking in drink and bar games. This was a traveler's  center where peoples came and gone on their journeys through the dessert for wealth and adventure. Barretta herself was on an expedition to find dessert magics to incorporate into her repertoire of her specialized use of magic, Finding redsalts to be a quite the amazing primer for Artificing with fire and water magics. Lapiz for improved density of magically produced force could prove to be useful for projectiles. But that plant lady could be the crowning study of her expedition.

"The benefits are good." she pondered as in retrospect she never received any benefits herself but a monthly allowance. "You get your meals paid for and you get some experience with magics." The Artificer could see that she was making her a tad nervous. "Don't worry, You'll be fine with me... mostly." recalling the training as an apprentice, she had once been chased by a pack of Mountain Snow Fraskons for getting too close in studying their eggs, Similar to turkeys of the capital save having the hunger of a street hound and anger of your local drunk.

"Thanks Hermit" nostalgically saying aloud.

Warren turned around, scowling. The engineer was getting on her nerves, keeping her from leaving with her logic. Her eyes flicked to the anxious crowd, most watching their encounter through side-eyes. Thin vines crept down her shoulders, a sign of nervousness. She looked towards the barmaid, then to the engineer once more. Humans were such pesky things.

"And what makes you any different, miss?" Warren asked, eyeing the notebook half falling out of the woman's pocket.

Warren hadn't the slightest idea why everyone was so interested in her, mortals and other alike. The engineer, the men at the bar, the innkeeper. She knew that their eyes, minds or physical, were watching her every move. She had to be more careful than before if she wanted to live her life the way she wanted to, and not by some instruction of another. This conflict raged inside the plant girl, as she could not understand why mortals were so selfish. Wether it be for knowledge, power, or just plain enjoyment. They exploited things like Warren for their own benefit. And it pissed her off to no end.

Melody entire body seemed to slump over, a flushed appearance taking over her

freckled face. She soon avoided Baretta's eyes and let her hand drape over the

other. She only quietly seemed to shake her head but when the woman wrapped

her arm around her- she physically tensed and continued to make herself small.

"I.. I cannot read.. Nor write.. I am sorry.."

She murmured faintly, her face turning away from the woman, trying to squirm out

of her rather firm grasp. Melody would have been rather soft, as she was a rather

full bodied woman, as well as short. If held onto, she wouldn't fight it- as she couldn't.

"I apologize for wasting your time.. I have work to do I am afraid.."
