Kai knew that Grace wasn’t super heavy but he still was concerned about his dad’s leg. He remembered when it happened. When Grace flailed into him, he slipped his arms around her and in one fluid movement, had her in his arms, on his hip. “I guess I don’t need to eat right now.” He said with a laugh, smiling warmly. “Alright. Shall we continue on princess?” Kaiden asked, moving to head towards the gate. He didn’t mind holding her, in fact, he actually liked it.

Allison smiled at Josh and then as they headed into the pantry. Her wide eyes looked around at the building, before her attention turned to Bethany. She shifted so she was pressed against Ezekiel’s side, unsure if her sad face would work. This woman was kind of stern looking. “Hi.. I’m new here. I’m Allison. And I.. I was wondering if you had any sugar and vanilla?” She asked, putting her sad face on anyway. Josh didn’t usually come in here, he never really needed to. ​

“Yes!” Grace called with a giggle as she playfully squirmed in Kai’s arms before settling and holding onto him. She did like Hayden a lot, but she liked Kai more. She really like him. He felt like her dad, and that was a powerful feeling. Her little mind was not ready to figure out what that meant, but she knew that it was strong. “Where are we going now?” she asked, because it was hard for her to remember everything, especially when she was doing so many exciting things. Hayden moved along with them, eventually opening the gate for them and closing it when everyone was through.

Bethany, who was all hard lines, appraised this young girl for a moment. She did not take her gaze away from her as she considered. Finally, she nodded in approval. “That was very well said for someone so young. Perhaps you can help him as well?” She nodded towards Ezekiel, who he was sure he had only ever had maybe one conversation with prior to this, and shook her head. Then she turned and pointed. “Down that aisle you can find the sugar. Don’t take too much. We aren’t an endless supply. However, I am not sure if we have any vanilla left.” She narrowed her eyes, thinking. “If we do, it will be in a similar area. Before you leave, come see me so that I can document how much was taken so that I know how much is left.” She raised a brow at Josh as though she were also appraising him and said nothing more.​

Kaiden held onto Grace, setting her on his hip with a small laugh. “Well princess, we’re heading to the bakery. They’ve got sugar, probably vanilla and ice too.” Kaiden said, as they headed for the gate. Once Hayden opened the gate for them, he went through and waited for him to shut the gate behind them. “Are you excited for ice cream and to beat your sister?” Kaiden asked Grace as they walked. He would look at her and then the path so he didn’t trip and cause them both to fall.

Allison had kept herself pressed against Ezekiel’s side as she looked up at Bethany. Her eyes lit up as she heard where the sugar and maybe vanilla was. “Thank you!” She said, pulling on Ezekiel’s shirt. “Let’s go!” She giggled, she wanted to win and beat her sister. Josh looked at Bethany and dipped his head politely. “Thank you. We’ll see what we can find and let you know what we take.” Josh told her, turning towards the aisle she mentioned.​
