Elijah shook his head at the mention of Will's duty as a Councillor to find the truth about the Pack, finally speaking up again. "The Council brought him on to protect Vitae from being slaughtered by the Pack," he said evenly. "They're prepared for a war, not negotiations or even understanding." Will looked down at his partner but nodded slowly in agreement, listening as Chase continued. He and Elijah both watched the werewolf, brows raised at the news.

"That didn't make it into the memo," Will remarked dryly. "But it doesn't surprise me. I knew the Council was playing a few things close to the vest, I just wasn't sure what. I'll see what I can dig up on their side of the story, but I can't make any promises other than I'll try to keep your name out of it."

Elijah cleared his throat, interjecting again. "I don't suppose you know the identity of these hostages?"

Chase's brow furrowed in confusion, "They brought you on for that singular purpose but didn't even tell you everything?" It didn't surprise him in the least to hear that, even considering what Elijah had just said. Though when the red-headed man asked if he knew who the hostages were Chase shook his head. "Not a clue." He couldn't even really say if he'd tell them even if he did know. Chase had no clue what they'd do with that information.

The man finished his lemonade and left the empty cup on the table, a frown forming. "I've still got to go by the barracks and collect Joe's things." Chase looked back over where Morgan was chatting away with Adelaide, the frown diminishing at the sight. He didn't want to break that up, from what he could tell Morgan was trying to milk this trip for every bit of information and experience that she could. "She'll keep shadowing me if I let her." Chase turned his head back towards the two of them expectantly. "Which means I need one of you two to come with me so that she won't."

His eyes settled more on Elijah,"How about it gimpy, you want to go for a ride?"

William nodded, slightly disappointed though not surprised that Chase didn't know the identity of the "hostages". He didn't think Chase was lying to him and even if he was, Will was hardly in any position to push him. When Chase mentioned that he needed an escort of sorts to collect Joe's things, Will was ready to volunteer -- all too aware that their argument or at least awkwardness might ensue -- when Chase looked toward his partner instead and made the offer. Will smirked at his wording, looking at Elijah expectantly.

The Brit leaned back, glaring at the werewolf with his fingers drumming against the armrest of his wheelchair. "I'd be glad to. Though if you call me 'gimpy' again, I'll start looking for the first bit of silver I can find. And don't even think about running -- I'm getting pretty handy with this thing," he remarked with faux warning, gesturing to the chair. Above and behind him, Will made eye contact with Chase and shook his head silently mouthing, No he's not.

As if sensing his partner's doubt, Eli looked up and Will's expression immediately went neutral. "He's all yours," the man said, pushing the chair toward Chase. "Maybe you can talk some sense into him." Elijah narrowed his eyes at Will, who simply gave both of them a parting wave before heading away from the tables.

Eli sighed before deciding to hopefully cut Chase off before he had a chance to question what Will meant with the only way he knew might throw the werewolf off. "Don't think I'm not flattered by you trying to get me all alone. I am. But you're not my type, I'm afraid. Besides, I would hate to take advantage of you. If Emily's available, however..." he said, looking up to give Chase a wink.

Watching the playful banter between the two other men was amusing, they were hunting partners and this was casual for them. While he didn't let it show he couldn't help but think on how he and his father would do the same. Chase quickly pushed it aside before it led him down a path he wasn't quite sure he wanted at the moment. Eyebrows raised at Will's words, unsure of the meaning though he figured it had something to do with Mackenzie's earlier term as well as the fact that they'd actively not gone near the girls the entire funeral.

However before he could even make any sly remarks Elijah was beating him to the punch leaving Chase amused and momentarily speechless. All the while the features on his face playing nothing but sheer innocence as he chuckled. "Sorry Gimpy," Chase started without hesitation as he moved rather quickly around behind the wheelchair and started moving the two of them towards the nearby sidewalk, "I'm afraid the last time I checked Emily has a rather large and angry Werewolf boyfriend, or admirer at least." Chase scowled lightly at the thought of Brody, "And I'm pretty sure he's already tried to maul me twice." The man spoke the words so casually and slightly unsure, like it was no big deal at all. It was all in the past anyways, so Chase hadn't dwelled on it. "And her uncle is an even larger Werewolf. So maybe rethink that." Chase had a large grin at the thought of Emile and Elijah having a face to face. But it was amusing to hear Elijah even feign interest considering the distinct lack of knowledge of the girl. As Chase pushed Elijah's wheelchair down the sidewalk he locked eyes with a rather confused Emily as they started walking by the pair and simply gave her a reassuring wave and smile, "I'll be back, try and enjoy yourself." The man nodded his head towards the other two women as well as Will who were still nearby, they'd keep an eye on her as well as Adelaide.

Then once they were moving again and out of earshot he continued, "Besides I've got no reason to want you alone now. I believe I'm already spoken for." It was nearly a question on his part considering he and Emile hadn't gotten a chance to really talk on the subject much at all. "So, you want to talk about how you are suddenly the pariah of Vitae? I mean, it's a big pair of shoes to fill considering I was probably the last one to wear them." He was asking out of interest and making conversation at the same time. Chase hadn't forgotten why he left Vitae in the first place and while Pariah wasn't exactly the correct definition, it was on the borders of how he'd felt at the time. There were other subjects Chase had in line to hopefully speak to the hunter on, but he was happy to put them off for the time being.

Elijah feigned a disappointed frown at the news of Emily's two lupine protectors -- one of which Chase seemed to be on less than great terms with. In truth, the news didn't faze him in the least. Only one woman would occupy his thoughts in the foreseeable future -- the same one he'd driven away, possibly for good. Elijah forced the the thoughts from his mind, waving idly to Adelaide and Emily but promptly averting his gaze when Chase nodded to Ashley-May and Mackenzie. He kept his gaze lowered until Chase pushed him further down the sidewalk and safely out of earshot.

The Hunter arched an eyebrow in interest as Chase remarked that he was no longer a bachelor. He was fairly sure that wasn't the case before the man left, based on Ash's mention of trying to match him up with someone in Vitae. Which meant that he had met someone special at the Pack. Elijah wondered idly how much that influenced his trust for them and his decision to stay, but before he could make a mention of it Chase was asking a question of his own. He let out a long-suffering sigh. "Not Vitae. I'm still the 'conquering hero' to most of them," he said dryly. "Just the people I care about: Will, Addy, Mac... Ash."

His eyes fell to the sidewalk in front of him as it rolled by. He considered deflecting the question, or even ignoring it entirely. Eli didn't owe him the truth, but he wouldn't keep him out of the loop to spare himself the discomfort of raising the subject. Slowly, Elijah spoke up, "You know about Ash?" he asked hesitantly. He wasn't sure how much the man knew about the nature of her pregnancy, but continued on nonetheless. "She's looked after me these last few days after the Trial. We got... close." He cleared his throat somewhat uncomfortably. For all his usual candor when it came to his love life, he was reduced to a shy high school boy when it came to Ash. He pushed through, continuing, "Then Hypnos showed us what he called a 'prophetic dream'. A possible future for us. One where Ash and I were together... with her-- our son." Elijah shrugged impotently. "We were happy. I think deep down both of us wanted that, but... I had second thoughts. I pushed her away and it hurt her more than I thought it would." Eli remained silent, awaiting Chase's response. He hadn't been particularly detailed on what had given him second thoughts and fully expected the man to end up asking, though he would take any reprieve from the subject that he could, no matter how brief.

Eddie adjusted his tie, giving his neck a little more room. This was his first time dressing up in his whole life, and he would be lying if he said it felt anything but uncomfortable. He wasn't sure whether he should come to this event or not, as he didn't know the deceased. So he put himself in his shoes; would he want people he didn't know at his funeral? It was a tough question, so he aired on the safe side and came. After all, he was something of a member of this community now. He said a prayer for the soul of the dead, before standing and walking over to the refreshment table in an attempt to fit in with the rest of them. Upon hearing the conversations around him, he believed he heard a man near him be referred to as a member of the council. Eddie thought against interrupting the conversation, but when the rest of Will's group left he thought it more appropriate to approach him. "Excuse me." Eddie said. "I heard that you are a councilman. My name is Eddie, and I've been here for a few days. If there's anything I can do to help around here, anything at all, let me know." Safton Safton

William hadn't made it far from the refreshment area before he heard a man's voice behind him, getting his attention. Turning on his heel, he saw a young man in formal wear looking at him expectantly. Will didn't recognize him or his name, though by the sound of it he'd been here for even less time than Will. Will managed a friendly smile as he nodded, "Hello, Eddie. I'm William Hendrix, and yes I'm a member of Vitae's Council for the time being. I appreciate the offer."

Will offered the younger man his hand to shake, cocking his head as he asked, "Are you a Hunter?"

Eddie shook his hand, awkwardly going out of his way to seem professional. 'Eye contact, smile, firm handshake.' He thought, before starting to say, "I could be a hunter! I haven't done much... apart from trying to attack a few leviathans. But I have to let you know, I am against attacking someone or something for what they are as opposed to what they've done." He waited a moment before realizing how hard it would be to trust someone who he doesn't know and has no experience. Safton Safton

"Ash?" It took a second for Chase to register what Elijah meant, "Yeah...there's a uh, distinct smell." The man knew how it sounded giving an awkward smile that wouldn't be seen unless the other man looked up at him. It was just weird speaking so openly about his senses to others besides Joe, and the pack but that was far more comfortable because they were the same. Chase listened to the hunter as he pushed the wheelchair at an even pace, eyes admittedly watching the people that were out and about than he realized. He was rather surprised at hearing they'd grown so close, it was a bit odd and yet poetic that the two pairs of hunters had more or less grown closer to each others counterpart.

What came next was even more surprising and caused Chase to scowl as he was sorely tempted the slap the man upside the head, "Let me get this straight. You pushed that woman away after she just got through being abandoned, with a baby no less? You idiot. You two got close and for a moment she might have thought Alaric taking off wasn't somehow on her. So of course the moment you started pulling away it was going to hurt, she wasn't even over being left by that asshat yet." The man let out an exasperated sigh, "I don't need to tell you, that girl didn't deserve that from either of you. Neither of you used your words."

William frowned, hearing Eddie's mention of Leviathans. He'd heard rumors about them in recent years but never encountered one himself. Eddie was by his own admission not a Hunter, though he seemed eager all the same. "Are the Leviathans what inspired you to come here, or do you have family at Vitae?"

upload_2017-8-20_18-20-39.jpeg

Elijah's teeth ground together as Chase chided him, his hands gripping the handles of the wheelchair. The words upset him, mostly because he knew the man was right. When Chase had finished, Eli spoke slowly, an exasperated edge to his tone. "Do you think you're telling me anything I haven't told myself -- or that Addy and Will haven't been kind enough to make ever so clear?" He sighed, struggling to regain his composure before speaking again.

"It's not a decision I made lightly. I... I had a dream of my own, afterward. In it Ash and I were happy together -- me, her, our son -- but I ruined it. And they got hurt. I don't know if it was 'prophetic' or not," he said, his tone once again growing exasperated, "...but the fears were real enough. Ash told me she wants a normal life for her and her son, to leave hunting behind, go back to school. I want that for her. And I wanted nothing more than to be there for them when it happened, but hunting is all I've ever known. I've tried being normal -- it didn't work out. Sooner or later I would have gone back to it and disappointed her in the process... or worse, put them both in danger."

Eli shrugged impotently. "Ash won't speak to me. Mac probably wants me dead. Addy and Will both think I'm a selfish coward. I thought that maybe... maybe if I put a stop to it before it ever began, it would be easier for both of us." He hung his head, adding the next part under his breath, more to himself than Chase. "Now I don't know."

"Oh no, I don't have any family. I just recently learned that all this supernatural stuff was actually real, and I was left here with a community who knew as well. It was either hit the road again or stay and learn what else is out there." Eddie's eyes looked zoned out as he said, "I was not disappointed..." Safton Safton

Once Elijah started mentioning that this had all already been said to him by the others Chase decided not to push further on the same path. "I understand trying to to live a normal life and it just not working. I don't think that was ever in my cards either." The man remained quiet for the remainder of Elijah's words, and a little afterwards. "You couldn't put a stop to it before it began because for her it had clearly already begun." The man shrugged his shoulders, pausing at an intersection and gazing up and down the roads before pushing the wheelchair across. "Maybe she'll be better off without you, and maybe she won't. But when she's ready you've just got to tell her the truth, why you did it, what you are afraid of, that you don't know if you can lead a normal life or want to. Everything you just told me is exactly what she should have heard to make her own decision about the relationship, and it still is what she needs to hear."

Chase let out a sigh, the barracks coming into view further on. "I'm not the best to go to for advice on the subject, considering I lie and deceive on a daily basis...but speaking from experience once the truth comes out, it...helps." It was true for him and recent events with Emile. The truth came out and despite how much of an ass he was he'd been forgiven, and the truth also had laid the groundwork for possibly something more. "Worst case scenario is she doesn't forgive you and it's over. Which is what you wanted to begin with, so what have you got to lose Gimpy?" A smug grin on his face knowing that Elijah was fully capable of making him regret bringing up the nickname constantly.

William raised his eyebrows in surprise at the man's words -- not that he had recently had news of what's out there thrust on him unceremoniously (Will knew that feeling all too well), but that he was taking it more or less in stride. "I've got to hand it to you, you're taking the news better than I did when I figured it out." He chuckled before continuing. "I'll be honest with you: you've come to Vitae at a... hectic time. But if... when we make it through this storm that's coming, there will be a place here for you. You could learn about hunting, if you want. Or not -- there's plenty of people that need help around the Colony. What kind of skills do you have?"

upload_2017-8-20_19-31-43.jpeg
Elijah listened to Chase, saying nothing, giving no outward sign of reaction... until the man insisted on dropping that damn nickname on him again. "I warned you, Cujo," he said with faux menace. "...but I'll let it slide this time, because that advice wasn't completely awful." Eli remarked with a solemn smile. Eli knew Chase was right in that his attempt to cut the relationship off before it could begin had been a mistake; he and Ash both were committed, in one way or another, the moment they shared that dream. "I tried explaining myself when I told her. Not everything... but my reasons." He shook his head. "It didn't go well." He wondered if it was worth giving it another try once things cooled off -- though he was worried at losing more than just the chance at love at this point. He was worried about losing her friendship, too.

Pushing the thoughts away for now, he changed the subject, looking up at Chase with a wolfish grin. "Enough about me, though. Tell me about what lucky strapping werewolf swept you off your feet?"

Eddie brushed off his lap before clearing his throat. "The lord blinded me from the sky before all of this and, you asked about skills right? Since then I haven't been scared or in pain, and I haven't forgotten anything, like literally anything. I remember how many times I moved my toothbrush back and forth this morning and-..." Eddie realized that he was speaking too quickly, and that this conversation had turned into his venting. "Besides that... I usually get along with people and I'm pretty handy with cars." (Actually, scratch Ginny going to the barracks.)
Ginny watches the funeral from a distance, with a bit of a thousand hard stare going on. She's never seen humans do this before, and it's… strangely beautiful.

There's a sense of sadness in everyone, of course, but also a sort of peace. Still, she doesn't feel right going to join them. She didn't know this man, and it would feel wrong. She sees Will standing with Eddie, and catches his eye, offering a small nod of respect..

Chase chuckled at the nickname Eli threw back at him. Though when the other man sought to change the subject Chase looked down to lock eyes with him and fake scoffed at the insinuation. "And who says I wasn't the one who swept him off his feet?" Chase shot right back, before awkwardly hesitating as he looked back up to see where he was going so that he didn't ram the wheelchair into anything. It wasn't so much a matter of trust as it was fear of anything said could be used against him or Emile if things didn't go as planned.

"Well, his name is Emile, and he may or may not be the Alpha." Chase spoke rather awkwardly though he felt his face warming up at speaking of Emile in this capacity. He was keeping an eye out for anyone nearby as they walked and making sure to talk in a hushed voice when there was. "Maybe we not mention that to Will though? He's still not convinced I'm being used by the pack, and he might use that as ammunition." Again he glanced down at the hunter for a brief moment out of curiosity, "Speaking of which you were rather quiet on that subject back there."

Will looked at Eddie, wide-eyed, as the man mentioned that he'd been blinded by what was essentially divine intervention. Between that and his mention of his newfound memory skills, William didn't know what to think, though the man seemed sincere enough. He decided to move past it for now, focusing on his last statement. "I'm sure Vitae could find a place for someone with mechanical skills," he offered.

Looking up, he saw Ginny standing not far off. He smiled, returning her silent nod. He was glad to see her making an attempt to assimilate into Vitae.

upload_2017-8-21_6-25-19.jpeg
Elijah grinned at the suggestion that Chase had been the one to make the first move in his new relationship, though the expression turned into one of surprise when the man mentioned that his new partner was the Pack's Alpha. Eli leaned back in the wheelchair, looking up at him. "Look at you: moving up in the world," he teased, mostly to cover his uneasiness at the next subject Chase had broached. He sighed. "I don't know what to think, Chase. I trust you: or else I wouldn't have covered for you after I learned your secret. I want to believe the Pack is as benevolent as you say and Will's having his judgement clouded, but I just don't know what to think right now." He shrugged. "And don't worry, your secret is safe with me... again." He frowned at the thought of deceiving Will a second time where Chase was concerned, but he'd honor the man's wishes all the same.

"No, you're right. That wasn't fair and I didn't bring you along to pit you against your partner I just..." Chase drew in a deep breath, unsure of what exactly he was trying to say in the moment. He didn't have a partner anymore, he couldn't go to his father for advice or an opinion. "I'm not functioning at one hundred percent. Physically, mentally, emotionally. I'm spent, so if there was maybe something I'm not able to see...I don't want to regret this later, I already regret leaving once." He trusted Emile and the pack, he did. But he'd still lived life as a hunter, so when it came down to it he valued those he trusted's opinions. Though Elijah had more or less given his opinion on the subject so Chase felt he needed to move on.

"Neither of you spoke on Thomas either. I more or less already know where Will stands, he doesn't care if the man lives or dies. But what do you think? He's alive for now, if not for Emile intervening he might not be." Chase cleared his throat whilst looking at the ground ahead of them, "I have to make up my mind what to do with the shit when I go back." The barracks were coming up, and Chase assumed by the time this topic was done they'd be inside.

Elijah noted Chase's change of subject and decided to go along with it; there was little to be gained from pursuing that line of thought any further. Eli considered the man's question about Thomas, cocking his head. "I hope Will didn't seem too... callous. For better or worse, his opinions about the sanctity of human life are different than most -- even other Hunters. I think what he saw overseas is to blame for that. His interest in Thomas's well-being only extended as far as seeing if the man had a network inside Vitae that could continue to threaten you and anyone close to you."

Eli knew he was copping out by not giving his own perspective, so he sighed before speaking again. "I... I'm not sure what to tell you except the decision isn't one I'd like to make. The man's a murderer, an unrepentant one at that. I won't shed a tear if you decide to end him. But that blood will stay with you -- whether or not you can live with that a few years from now is something you can only find out in hindsight. Of course, there's also the question of what the Pack plans to do with him if you let him live."

"Thank you." Eddie said before rolling his eyes downward in thought. "Why is this a secret? Couldn't we help more people of everyone knew?" He asked. This was one of the first things he thought upon entering this new world, but he was debating whether or not to bring it up. Who knows, maybe just questioning it would bring them down on him. Chase had quietly soaked in what Elijah was saying, even staying silent afterwards. With the mention of blood on his hands Chase's thoughts lingered back to the two hunters he'd killed and their loved ones. It wasn't until they'd entered the barracks that he'd started up again. They'd passed by nearly a dozen cots before he'd parked Elijah between his own cot and Joe's, the man was staring at a medium sized box on his fathers bed. Out of instinct he glanced around before moving around the wheelchair to open it. Lifting the lids open he could see a small bag and a number of his fathers belongings and clothes packed neatly underneath. "I don't suppose you know who did this?" He asked softly with a hint of emotion, whilst he opened the small bag to reveal Joe's personal effects that had likely come from the morgue or clinic.

Pushing the emotions back he pulled an older looking watch out with a small smile, "Joe never let me forget that he wanted me to keep this if he were to pass, it's supposed to be a family heirloom of sorts...even though it started with him. And considering my preferences, will end with me." Chase rolled the sleeve on his left arm up slightly revealing a few of the cuts from earlier in the day, then he held it close to his chest while using his right hand to fasten it around his wrist. "I know some families of hunters typically pass down a weapon or some sort of mystical trinket but Joe was just old fashioned, hence the lack of a hunters pyre." The man smirked and shook his head as he looked at the watch after he finished fastening it. "Both he and my mother decided long before I was born that they wanted to be buried in the ground. I know that not all hunters agree with that practice since it's uncommon in our line of work. But I plan to follow them in that respect."

William gave Eddie a sympathetic frown, cocking his head as the man asked about spreading the word, as it were. "Trust me, you're not the first to think of it," he remarked quietly. "After I saw firsthand what was out there, I tried pulling back the curtains for everyone else. They thought I was crazy. PTSD, survivor's guilt, the works. The only one who didn't patronize me was the Hunter who ended up bringing me into the fold. I've thought about trying to expose it all in the years since, but sometimes I think it might do more harm than good." Will shrugged. "It's a moot point now, I guess. More people are finding out each year."
upload_2017-8-21_21-54-29.jpeg
Elijah shook his head slowly as Chase asked about the box of Joe's belongings waiting for him, noting the slight strain in his voice. He watched as the man removed the watch from the box, remarking on Joe's rather eccentric (by the standards of the Hunting community) perspective on his legacy. He smiled, listening intently. When he finished, Eli spoke quietly, his tone neutral as he leaned toward Chase, "I come from a generational family of hunters. Centuries old. I want you to keep that in mind when I say this: tradition is overrated." A grin appeared on his face as he settled back into the wheelchair. "That choice was your father's to make, just as it'll be yours. No one else's."

He paused before adding, "And your 'preferences' don't necessarily preclude the possibility of children, you know. This is the 21st century." Eli let out an exaggerated sigh. "Though I guess that depends how your strapping Alpha feels about the subject..." he remarked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.

Chase hadn't known Elijah was from a rather long line of hunters, though the man was clearly not one for tradition. "The grass was always greener I suppose." Though he did appreciate the response to his fathers wishes after death.

However when Elijah spoke up on the subject of kids, offering a more modern way of creating a family Chase had no time to react before the other man bringing up Emile he found himself rubbing at his eyes in light embarrassment and an awkward grin. Elijah was talking about kids and he and Emile had arguably not even started a relationship yet, two kisses did not seal the deal so to speak. "Fair enough." Chase said with a chuckle that faded into a light head shake as he took the sarcastic tone of the conversation to a realistic one. "I couldn't do that." Chase glanced around at the rather empty barracks before taking a seat on the cot so he was closer to Elijah and could speak lower. He looked Elijah in the eyes as he started speaking, "I'd have the same fears as you. Something coming after us. Except it might not be a demon or something else we hunt, but maybe a hunter. The child wouldn't be safe from either side, even if the kid was adopted and human." Even though they might be living with the pack there'd be some sense of protection, but even it has it's limits. "That much has been made painfully clear to me now more than ever." Joe was killed because Chase was a Werewolf, who was to say the same couldn't happen to a child.

The Werewolf shrugged, he'd given up on the prospect of kids long ago. Adoption was always an option when he assumed he might be with a human but that was possibly not the case currently. Emile was a Werewolf and they were in a pack. Adoption meant bringing a child into a world they might not want any part of. Insemination meant the birth of a Werewolf, a being Chase had resented for most of his life. Only recently had he opened himself up to them. He wouldn't put that curse on a child intentionally. "Apparently there are a number of humans in the pack though. Mates, er, significant others from what I gather. Though I'm sure that's not all." He hadn't spoken to anyone on it much so he had no idea really.

Elijah didn't bother to protest Chase's declaration that he wouldn't pursue children for much the same reason as himself. He simply nodded; anything else would have been hypocritical. The man had more reason to avoid parenting than Eli, after all. He looked up at Chase as he mentioned the presence of human Pack members. "I've heard of that before from some of the more... progressive packs," Eli said thoughtfully.

"I'm guessing those humans didn't come South?" he remarked, hoping Chase didn't mistake his idle curiosity for an attempt at probing for sensitive information. He smiled before adding jokingly, "By the looks of things back there, Addy may be wanting you to sign a permission slip at some point."
