Fandom Star Wars; Decade Three

Finn gave him another long stare, even as he finished reassembling the engine. Finally, he turned back to his work and put the last pieces into place. The metal-winged eagle looked on with an almost bored expression, occasionally ruffling a few wing weathers or hopping from foot to foot.

"Are you ready?" Aegirine's voice was almost anxious, and he tried to change it back to its normal gruffness. "Or would you rather not take the test?"

Finn sealed the last crack and turned to face Aegirine, raising an eyebrow. "I suppose that really depends on both what the test is, and what will happen if I don't take it?"

"Well," Aegirine began, "The test was originally a simply telepathic link to see if the person was attuned with the force. Over time, it evolved to encompass and examine each part of the pupils body, providing a more scientifically precise method of notation, often involving their midi-chlorian levels and similar features. It-" her he choked a little bit with grief. "It was decided that it would be used as a weapon. Warring clans drove the users into extinction, and I am the only one who still knows the technique." He paused to collect his thoughts before proceeding to the second question, and then said "If you chose to abstain from the test, then I suppose I could bring you with me anyway, perhaps teach you a few tricks, but no truly extensive training, with which the force would be necessary. But the main thing would be experimentations pertaining to the capabilities for tsillian telempathy with mechanical creatures."

He pondered this, his eyes narrowing as he stared off into space. After about a minute, Finn turned back around and nodded. "I'm fine with whatever. I'm sort of curious about why Andrew was picking up your telepathy anyways." He grinned, and then gestured to the engine. "That's done by the way."

Aegirine directed the nurse and Synda to support Finn. He quickly inspected the engine, and then, writhing with lightning, he sent it coursing into the engine. It hummed, whirred, and began to glow blue. "Ah, good." The boy really had done a good job. Turning to the boy, he closed his eyes and felt the vibrations of the midi-chlorians surrounding him. He grasped the boys consciousness, and plunged in. It felt like diving into cold water. Disoriented for a few moments, he righted himself and began at once. He stretched out and began to flicker through the boys memories. Just in case. He reasoned to himself. Then, feeling the twinge of the boys mind, tried to bring the energies and focus the pain into himself. It coursed through him, setting him on fire. He almost lost control of the test, but snatched up the reins once more. He decided to make the test quick, so that nothing wrong would happen. He communicated this to the mind, and then he began the next part of the test. Stretching his arms and expanding into the rest of Finn's body, he felt for the obvious strengths and weaknesses. The boys arm and hand muscles were developed from the fine art of mechanics. He grasped his heart, and felt a slow, beating pulse of energy; this boy had certain force potential, but for now it was dormant, untouched. He felt it respond to his touch, and squeezed it, stimulating the response. The boy would do well in the precise arts of the force, those of balance and of electricity. He felt motivated to reach out for one last thing, his head beginning to melt from the pressure of storing some of the pain. The last thing he connected with was the boys dream. He knew that he would need to see the boys motivation for safety, yet it felt like an invasion. Shuddering, he finished his observation, and fell out of the boys mind. He felt the reverberations as his real body fell, and the reverberations in his skull. Standing and rubbing the back of his head, he heard the nurses cry and urged her to treat the boy. He... he passes. Turning and facing the boy, he layered his hands together, and spoke with his mind, 'Thus are the wonders of the Tsillian Test.'

Finn stared at Aegirine, eyes seeming vacant. Andrew, having apparently recovered, padded over and paused, glancing first at the Jedi, then at the boy, before looking at the nurse, who was coming over with quick steps. With an abrupt movement, the small kitten headbutted Finn, causing the boy to yelp and nearly fall over. He winced, shooting a glare at Andrew. "Andrew, you're not supposed to use full force! It's painful."

Remembering the Jedi, Finn turned to him with an embarrassed look on his face. "S-sorry about that. I must have spaced out or something..." He paused, eyebrow furrowed in sudden thought. "Were you just....inside of my head?"

"Well." Aegirine said weakly. "I... was, sort of. I was in your midi-chlorian network. I suppose yes, you might consider part of it to be your brain." He walked over and went to shake his hand. "I do have both good and bad news. (pause for dramatic effect) The good news is, you can come with me. The bad news? I need to make you permanently immune to Tsil Lightning fields." He grinned and said, "Welcome aboard."

Finn opened his mouth, meaning to argue, but then remembered that it really didn't matter where he went. Being on a Jedi's ship would no doubt be more exciting than jumping from ship to ship anyways, if the stories he'd heard were correct. "O-okay. Sounds good?" Stùrmbright snorted, and Finn glanced at the bird. "If you keep this up, I might start seriously considering wiping your memory files." It merely shrugged its wings and fluttered over to land on Finn's shoulder, giving him a light shove with it's beak. "Yeah yeah. You probably do get your sarcasm from me." Finn looked back at Aegirine, a grin on his face. "So...I had a thought....where did it go?"

Aegirine raised an eyebrow. "What, you expect me to plumb your mind to find your own thoughts? That would be virtually mental rape, boy. Remember your own thoughts."

Finn shook his head, slightly alarmed. "No no no. I...just have a habit of talking to myself. I wasn't asking you to do anything." The eagle shook itself in what seemed like a laugh, the metal feathers clattering against each other.

"Ah." Well. At least he's honest about it. He gestured for the boy to follow, and walked to his chambers. "I'll be on the ship for three days. You and the others will come with me when I leave. Care to work on your midi-chlorian manipulation?

Aegirine was so close to a face-palm that he had to grasp the table to avoid it. A chair slid up behind both of them in which to sit down. He did so, and said pointedly, "Using the force."

Finn stared at the chair for a moment, trying to figure out what mechanisms had been used before giving an apologetic look to Aegirine. "I'm afraid we didn't have any Force-users visit us. My interest was mechanics anyways, so I never learned much about Jedi." Andrew jumped onto the Jedi's lap, settling there with a clear intention of not moving.

Aegirine stroked the kitten on his lap and said thoughtfully, "I suppose that the force is similar to one great expansive machine. Each creature has its own values, interacts with other pieces properly. They all work together. Jedis are the coders, we can tell each item what to do. For example..." He had some items open up in activity and pour tea. "So, how about it?"

Finn raised an eyebrow at Aegirine's explanation, but nodded, and pulled a chair over so he could sit as well. "So it's like inputting your own programming into the world. Where you have the normal code, and then you tweak that code a little to get the result you want?"

Andrew began to purr, its little body vibrating in Aegirine's lap.

Aegirine jolted slightly in surprise. He didn't think that metallic cats could purr. Then again, they also wouldn't snuggle. "Exactly. Masters can read the code and rewrite it. Sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better."

Finn chuckled and stroked Stùrmbright's head, moving the bird to his lap so he could easily preen it. "Okay. So you're going to be teaching me to read and understand this language. Sounds good." His fingers brushed through the eagle's feathers, causing bits of dust to drop down. He sneezed, and laughed.

Aegirine opened up his mind, and stretched forth his hand. Immensely small bits of green swam in and out of a flat circle of energy. "I am doing this so that you can see what the recoding should look like. He hardened it, the midi-chlorians forming meshed up, almost crystalline formations. He pulled a blaster from a drawer in his desk, and shot Finn. Or rather, the circle. The orbs combined, and ripples swept across them, the shapes highlighted by the red disk of energy behind them. "See?"

Finn frowned in thought, stroking the fine hairs on his chin. "I believe I understand."

"I....well, after rearranging the particles into the formation that you want it, you add energy to keep the new formation stable?" He ducks his head. "I'm not so certain anymore...."

"Close, but not quite." Aegirine observed. "You do not so much add energy as you do connect yourself. You... I believe the term is, 'generate a strand' which makes it easier to control the field, and you can add your midi-chlorians strength to the areas stability. This is best done through the extension of a limb, usually the hand, and for slight variations, you may change the shape of the hand, providing a different input with which the force is created." He caught himself being longwinded and stroked Andrew a little bit more before saying, "Yes, your answer was right. Technically the other stuff is for advanced understanding classes, but really, it makes it so much easier to duplicate." Turning again to Finn, he said, "Are you ready to try it?"
