Azusa kept her eyes moving as the group continued up the stairs toward the wailing. There isn't going to be much I can do against a ghost or anything that isn't physical in nature, she thought to herself, resting her finger on the trigger guard of her weapon. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, her precog E went off, showing her who was an enemy behind the door and what it looked like. "Banshee, door." Azusa pointed to the door that the wailing was coming from which shouldn't have been a surprise to the group that there was something there.

As the group entered the door and the gunshot went off Azusa put her weapon away and grabbing the rod and thinking of turning it into a copy of her M1911. Knowing that her attacks would go straight through it and hoped that this weapon would at least be able to hit the banshee. She move up 20 ft of their charge and then fired off two shots from the chimera weapon aimed aimed at the creatures head using Head shot.

A gift

The sight of a mighty angry looking specter just made Izuru question if he'd even be able to do anything to this thing. However his payout depended on whether he could assist in the subjugation of this creature. Hence why he would endeavor to do at least enough damage that the others couldn't deny he helped in some way. Moving closer to Azusa and Giuseppe, Izuru tapped both his cane and the magic rod he got from Giuseppe over his head. Next he spoke a poem on the spot to get his magic flowing. As he was a poet by trade, this was the best way for him to get his powers to properly manifest. Izuru was a little wary of the fact he had been forced to get close enough to this thing that it might take a swing at him with little for him to do. His body had the weakest healing factor among the dragonkin he had met on his journey. If he messed up, he'd be too busy being dead to get any sort of healing in.

As the ethereal creature materialized before them, Nox's instincts kicked into overdrive. With a firm grip on her sword, she took a step forward, her aura beginning to envelop the spectral being. Her eyes remained fixed on the ghost, her expression resolute as she moved closer, closing the distance between them.

Despite the creature's otherworldly appearance and the primal instincts that often accompanied encounters with monsters, Nox felt no insatiable hunger stirring within her. It was a curious realization, one that she couldn't help but find intriguing. Perhaps it was the nature of the creature itself, what with it having no blood to consume, or maybe it was something deeper within her Moon-Blessed essence that recognized it as an aberration rather than prey. Regardless, at least she wasn't being swayed into a frenzy. Still the urge to destroy this creature was strong, and called to her.

Maintaining her focus, Nox continued to advance, her aura pulsating gently as she approached the ghost. She remained vigilant, ready to react to any sudden movements or hostile actions from the spectral entity. With her sword at the ready and her senses attuned to the eerie surroundings, she stood poised to confront whatever otherworldly threat lay before them.

"Good work Azusa. Guiseppe, stay within my aura. This monster may yet be capable of ranged attacks but at the very least with my aura present it can't recklessly attack you up close."

The Cove Battle Siren - Darkest Dungeon

Guiseppe Gasparo
Guiseppe.jpg

Normally, Focus/Componentless of the same Grade of spells is necessary to move and cast spells in the same turn (among other uses). In a similar light, Steady Hands of the same Grade of a spell/precision ranged attacks/abilities (ie using Guns/Bow/Crossbows/Etc) is necessary to remove the necessity to use an action to aim and prevent base effectiveness penalties after the character moved. I am dismissing both as a necessity for the remainder of this RP.

Initial Applicable Considerations:
Guiseppe - Mana Missile - [Vorpal] ? - ? Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Azusa's warning
Marcus - Hunter's Toss - 6 Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Azusa's warning = 7
Kite - Inferno Blade - Elemental Affinity [Fire] F + Blight [Fire] F - 6 Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Azusa's warning = 7
Azusa - Headshot - [Non-Lethal] E - 10 Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Precog = 11 Base Effectiveness
Izuru - Sickboi Poetry - Elemental Affinity [Darkness] F - 8 Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Azusa's warning = 9
Nox - Penumbra - Blight [Holy] E + [Hot Shot] E + [Aura] E + [Incapacitating: Paralysis] E + [Vorpal] E + [Sixth Sense - Weakpoint Vision] + [Penetrating E] - 13 Base Effectiveness + 1 Extra Effectiveness from Azusa's warning = 14

Final Consideration:
Team-Up Attack - [Vorpal] ? + Blight [Holy] E + [Non-Lethal] E + [Hot Shot] E + [Aura] E + [Incapacitating: Paralysis] E + Elemental Affinity [Fire] F + [Sixth Sense - Weakpoint Vision] + [Selective] + [Penetrating E] - 19 Base Effectiveness + (2 true damage from [Aura] E + (if hit {2 damage from Blight [Holy] E}) * 2 = 4/8 damage if it is weak against Holy) = Possibility of 23/27 damage

The wraith, who had first been assaulted by Guiseppe's Mana Missile, was left wide-open for the follow-up attacks from the group despite, its ethereal nature. The creature would let out a loud, almost primal shriek as the first following attack struck it: Marcus' thrown spear had hit its mark, sinking into the creature's see-through chest and sticking into it, the whole length of the weapon, shaft and tip, now moving with it.

Next, Kite would move up to the creature, swinging his sword in a horizontal cut which was accompanied by a bright, flaming bite, which almost seen to disconnect part of the being's body for a moment, the dismembered parts burning, before it became whole once more.

Giving the creature no quarter, Azusa shifted her positioning before firing twice, aiming at the creature's head. To her surprise, the chalk bullets, instead of going through it, sank into the ethereal's being form, until the full length of the projectile was in it. The sound of the added gunfire, first by Guiseppe and next from Azusa, made an ominous breeze start to blow from somewhere at the back of the room.

Izuru's worries, as he approached the creature, while well-founded, did not come to reality. The creature was too stunned, at that singular moment, to attack him. As the words of the poem left his mouth, the dark elemental energy which was conjured forth, struck the wraith in its totality, the pitch-black hue of it, painting its body blueish black where its struck, before going back to its original color.

And with Nox, advancing enough for her bright and holy Moon-Blessed aura to reach the creature, the wraith recoiled greatly from the light, not exactly from the Fear that it might have caused against other beings. Letting out a deafening shriek this time around, which would let those with Heightened Sense [Hearing] momentarily deaf, which thankfully was no-one, making it move back (I6), the paralysis appearing to not force it still. Guiseppe followed Nox's lead, advancing to her side to keep himself in the aura she was providing around her.

However, before gaining distance from its attackers, a good part of the creature's body seemed to vanish into a mana cloud, making Marcus' spear fall on the ground where it stood previously (K6). Now, only the wraith's head, neck, shoulders and arms remained, its body floating accompanied by a ghastly wailing. The party's assault appeared to have left the ethereal being at the brink of death, yet its body immaterial body appeared to be steadily recomposing itself. It looked like, unless they finished off the creature quickly enough (2 rounds), all their efforts would be for naught.

Despite its weakened state, the wraith was able to launch counter-attack of its own. Moving its arms in the air, forming an arcanic sigil which, for a moment, appeared to engulf every bit of light that nibbled at its very corners, a massive sphere of energy was shot in an arc towards the party, threatening to engulf them if they didn't avoid it in some manner (AoE size represented as the red rectangle).

Haunted bedroom2.png

During her Penumbra, Nox's violet eyes didn't see any specific part of the creature's body which appeared to be vulnerable. She instinctively gathered, however, that her Holy damage had had massive impact against it.

Following up the Hunter's Toss, when Marcus attempted to use his Parry, he felt a sharp poking pain in his stomach. While it wasn't enough to bring him to his knees, it was enough to make it impossible for him to carry out his technique. He was simply too exerted from using his Hunter's Toss Grade F to try and follow up with his Parry Grade F in such a short period of time.

The Manor

I don't move how I like to.

It was of no surprise to him to unable to properly defend in such a short period of time. He hadn't moved nor been as mentally the capable since the day he'd been struck by lightning.

Yet in spite of this pain, he gained some satisfaction to see the creature pounded by an onslaught of attacks. The creature screamed out in blood-curdling anguish, yet it found no sympathy in the man at arms heart. Indeed, such a sign of weakness from the creature only drove him forward. "Take it's head." He said, uttering only 3 syllables as he sought to reinforce the wills of his comrades and goad them to show no hesitation in sending back the ethereal monster from where it came.

Sigils appeared. An attack was coming What sort? He did not know. "Incoming!" Marcus yelled. Not panicked, but brief enough to be processed and loud enough to be clear. He suspected he wasn't fast enough to properly dodge it, so he stuck with what he knew.

SHING

The sword begins to sing, already on the move. A ball of energy was lobbed in their direction and Marcus instinctively swung his sword at it in a practiced motion. Marcus had long seen his fair share of Fae arrows fired from brush in his general direction, and thus, he was repeating the same motion to meet [Intercept F] this projectile. The air distorted as his blade swung, wind able to be visibly felt by those near him. A slight alteration was made in that he hit with the flat of the blade -- a split second adjustment for the nature of the porjectile. The ideal was to swat the projectile to the other side of the room, but Marcus would be lucky enough to mitigate the ensuing blast.

After the swing, he shields his face [Defend] in anticipation of spill off. He takes a defensive, bladed stance -- meeting the explosion with his shoulder to give it less surface area. [Defend]

Kite saw the creature recoil and excitement swelled inside him at the thought of winning this fight, but it was soon crushed when he realized there was more to come. He moved from his location and rushed the specter once again, trying to finish it off before it recovered.

He lunged forward once in range and shot the tip of his sword toward the neck of the howling monster in an attempt to silence it for good, hoping whatever allowed him to cause damage was still in effect.

Once he pulled back his blade after his attack he moved back away from the creature to create some distance, panting softly from all the excitement.

As the wraith recoiled from the holy aura emanating from her sword, Nox couldn't help but notice its vulnerability to the pure light of her Moon-Blessed essence. Sensing an opportunity to capitalize on its weakness, she wasted no time in seizing the moment.

With a swift dash forward, Nox closed the distance between herself and the wraith, her aura condensing into her sword as she prepared for a devastating strike. As she reached striking distance, she raised her blade high above her head, channeling the concentrated energy of her aura into the weapon.

With a powerful downward slash, Nox brought her sword crashing down towards the wraith's remaining form, aiming to cleave through its ethereal body with the force of her Moon-Blessed might. The blade, imbued with holy energy, sliced through the air with a sharp crack, its radiant glow illuminating the darkness of the room as it descended upon the spectral creature.

Izuru was surprised to see his little demonstration of magic had actually done something. Although he wouldn't go as far as to call himself magically inept. It was obvious to all who witnessed his prowess that he wasn't becoming an archmage anytime soon. The wraith ghost thing was at least affected by his dark magic, which was at least a start. Gripping his cane tightly, Izuru decided to watch the movements of the other members of the party. Marcus was currently playing the role of tank whilst Kite and Nox were striking at their creature through means of damage per second. Not once did Izuru question where he obtained such terms from, accepting them as accurate without so much as a second thought. Moving behind Nox and taking a moment to admire her impressively lithe physique. Izuru began incanting a spell, molding it to strike at the wraith ghost thing from the shoulder of the attractive vampire. Lucky the bolt was condensed enough for such a tactic. How brave of Nox to shield him with her body.

As the massive sphere of energy hit the Chimeric Conduit, which Marcus' held, it quickly dissipated to his sides rather easily. It was difficult to know exactly why: if it was because the wraith had already been severely weakened, the attack itself not being strong enough, Marcus' deflective and defensive technique or a combination of factors. But, as the energy hit the artifact-turned-into-sword, the warrior's wrist felt only a light pressure against it.

An almost similar thing had happened with Izuru after he began chanting his spell. As the energy condensed into a black bolt, the Draconian-Human aimed the attack against wraith, the attack flew from the Chimeric Conduit, however, it didn't reach the intended target. It seemed that, despite having the knowledge of how to make his magic reach further than intended, his magic just wasn't just there yet (Magic Range F requires Magic E). Despite the mishap, the bolt collided against the sphere of energy which came his way, making him not being harmed by it.

Guiseppe acted on his own, quickly 'rushing', as much as one could expect from a man of his age, towards J5, keeping the lamp trained on the creature, providing light on that, otherwise, pitch-black room.

After dashing towards the Wraith, Nox's Moonblade, infused with the holy light, cleaved through the remnants of the ethereal creature with ease, splitting what was left of the wraith into two parts in a vertical line, the blade scorching the line of separation of the two halves, dissolving a good part of the already weakened creature. The creature let out a shrill of agony, which now left not a single point, but the two parts separating parts of its ghastly visage.

Following the attack, Kite was the next one to join the final assault on the creature. Stepping forward and thrusting his blade against the creature's neck, the attack pierced and, for a split second, made the two halves become one again. When the blade, which skewered the creature neck, was pulled from it, there wasn't a single sound anymore.

The creature's ectoplasm, which formed a puddle, was the only thing left from the wraith. It had a curious blue-hue to it, faint and almost transparent. With its presence vanishing, the unnatural darkness of the room vanished, in a blink of an eye. The morning sun, from outside, now managed to pierce the windows and, while vision still was hampered slightly, none would have difficulty seeing things.

Now with the room in full view, Guiseppe's azure eyes locked onto the fallen wraith, before scanning the room itself and letting out a sigh. "This will need quite a bit of redecorating before it is sold..." He murmured, looking at the blood-stained carpet under the bed, before turning towards the group, his expression relaxing just a few pegs. The smell of rotten, which previously could only be slightly perceived with those having Heightened Senses, now overpowered even the smell of mold and fungi, making the merchant's face twist with the odor. "Where should we go next?" He asked the group.

With the creature finally out of commission Kite sheathed his sword, extinguishing and remaining flames as it entered the sheath. He knelt down to calm himself as the adrenaline slowly began to wear off, breathing in through his nose and out through his mouth slowly to calm his pounding heart.

As he knelt there on the ground he stared into the pile of ectoplasm that remained of the beast and a thought crossed his mind. He reached out with his right hand and dipped his index and middle finger into the goo, swirling them around slowly.

“Never seen ectoplasm before. Doesn't feel like I thought it would.”

He pulled his hand back and rubbed the ectoplasm against his fingers with his thumb, a goofy smile finding its way onto his face.

”Hey guys, you should try this. You might be surprised if you've never touched ectoplasm before.”

The Manor

The massive sphere met his blade and gave way to an explosion and for a moment. Marcus disappeared in the ensuing release of energy -- it seemingly consuming his form entirely.

....A moment later, after all sign of the energy dissipated, he stood in the middle of the blast completely unharmed. His eyes were instinctively once more drawn to the sounds of katana slicing, creature shrieking and the sound of poetic incantation being spoken. His eyes landed on the fallen wrath just in time for Kite to smite the creature into oblivion. Before he had much to do, the creature was reduced to be a pile of goo.

He looked over to Guisseppe and saw that the old man appeared to have escaped fairly unscathed. A brief glance and everyone appeared to be fine. With a sigh of relief, Marcus moved to go pick up his spear. As he took it, he held it pointed straight up into the air like a bulky walking stick "Hello old friend...." He said to his trusty spear with a warmness to his tone. One to match the newfound sunlight which entered the room.

Now that this conflict was over, there was a little bit of time to think and converse.

"It seems this place is haunted after all." He said, stating the obvious. His eyes wandered to Guiseppe. "We'd heard rumors of such a thing before we'd come here." There was a slight shift in his tone as it was tainted with insolence and a hint of anger. One could see for a brief moment, that Marcus appeared to be glaring at Guiseppe from beneath his helm.

"Funny. Wouldn't you agree, Izaru?" He said then, to the Half-Breed. Currently, Marcus lacked in information. It was obvious the place was haunted.

After a few moments of silence, Marcus felt his focus interrupted as Kite began to...inspect the fluid left on the ground where the slain specter once was. Beneath his helm, he raised a brow. What could be seen of his scarred face was scrunched in a subtle disgust. "....No thank you. I'll leave that "task" to you, Kite." One could probably tell from his voice it was hardly something that called to him. Something did, however, call to him.

The sound of the added gunfire, first by Guiseppe and next from Azusa, made an ominous breeze start to blow from somewhere at the back of the room.

He remembers a small detail. Perhaps significant, perhaps not. But it wouldn't hurt to look before they left this room. The holes at the back of the room could easily lead to outside. But it would be odd if there was a breeze coming in from another room. Using his keen albeit human senses [Perception F], he sought to try to discern the nature of the breeze and whatever he might see from it's source. He would listen to the hole for a moment and then lean over to peer through said holes. Both the one made by Guiseppe, and the one made by Azusa.

The question of where to go next was left to the others. It was likely that Marcus wouldn't see much reason to linger in this room and would leave with the party. Earlier, he described what he had heard in the room downstairs earlier in the form of a "light shuffling" he'd heard from the kitchen.

"I am hardly an expert in the occult. But I wonder why this place is haunted. Perhaps there is an anchor here, something which yet binds the spirits of previous residents here." He said, remembering stories he was told at the monastery of all types of heroes, mythical creatures, and terrible monsters -- such as Fae abducting children into the woods, terrible dragons to be slain by valiant heroes, and ghosts who haunted areas children ought not to go. But such was mere myth and speculation.

Finding out this place was truly haunted only left Marcus with questions. Prominently, at the moment, why is this place haunted?

Nox observed the ectoplasm with a mixture of curiosity and caution. She had encountered various supernatural phenomena in her adventures, but ectoplasm was something she hadn't encountered firsthand before. As Kite dipped his fingers into the goo and encouraged the others to do the same, Nox hesitated for a moment before deciding to investigate it herself.

Dipping her own fingers into the ectoplasm, she noted its strange consistency. It felt cold and slightly slippery against her skin, but otherwise, it didn't provoke any adverse reactions.

"It's certainly an interesting substance," Nox remarked, licking her fingers clean. "But it lacks the essence of life. There's nothing here for me."

She couldn't help but ponder over why the ectoplasm had not triggered her vampiric instincts as she had expected. Perhaps it was due to its ethereal nature, lacking any tangible life force for her to feed upon. It was a relief, nonetheless, knowing that she hadn't been driven to the brink of bloodlust by its presence.

Turning her attention back to the group, Nox nodded in agreement with Marcus' assessment. "Indeed, there may be something anchoring these spirits to this place. It's worth investigating further."

She glanced around the room, her keen eyes scanning for any clues or signs of the paranormal. "I suggest we spread out and thoroughly search this floor before moving on. We need to ensure there are no other lingering threats before we continue our investigation downstairs."

With a determined nod, Nox prepared herself to continue the exploration, her sword still glowing faintly with the moonlight infused within it.

Kite watched in bewilderment as Nox fearlessly ate the ectoplasm, taking a second glance at his fingers before wiping them clean on his pants. The cogs I'm his mind turned as he thought for a moment before drawing his sword and letting flames engulf the blade so he could see as he searched around the room for a container.

His search took him over to the nightstand next to the bed where a vase-like container waited for him. He picked it up with his remaining hand and turned it upside down to dump any remaining contents out before heading back over to the pile of remains and sheathing his sword. With momentary hesitation he set the container down next to the pile and began to scoop as much of the goo into it by hand.

” Ugh, it's so much worse in large quantities. I do not recommend.”

Once the deed was done he looked at his filthy hands before standing up and cleaning them on the nearby curtains, hoping Giuseppe wouldn't notice his dastardly deed. He picked up the vase and walked back to where the bulk of the group stood in time to hear about splitting up, a motion he was not fond of.

”Even if we do split up we should probably stay in medium-sized groups just in case we come across any more nightmarish creatures.”

He thought his suggestion was sound and hoped the others would listen. Kite adjusted the vase like container in his arms for a better hold, looking inside to admire the spooky fluid for a moment.

Once the battle was concluded and the party had survived to tell the tale. Izuru let out a sigh of relief that they only had the REST of the spooky mansion to go. Truly they were still in the den of ghosts who seemed very eager to bite his face off. Giuseppe's relatives sure knew how to set up their homes for house guests. Now Izuru would have preferred some tasteful thigh art, maybe some coffee. What he got just so happened to be pushing the limits of the already small amount of things he could actually do. Sighing, he watched on as Marcus began giving Giuseppe the death glare of the century. Part of Izuru wondered if revealing this place was formerly the workplace of a cult would help the matter resolve itself.

Surely Marcus wasn't just going to walk out because of some dark cult business? He was about to speak up when Nox ate some of the ghost residue Frowning at such an act, he wondered if her immune system filtered out toxins. Luckily Kite didn't seem to follow in her questionable actions, not partaking in ghosty goo consumption. Izuru turned his attention back to Marcus and decided to maybe hint at what was going on, so that Giuseppe could jump in at any time to tell it to the others with his own words. "Likely this place isn't JUST your regular ass haunting. I'd say we're dealing with either zealots or cultists. Which still makes this whole manor dangerous but also means we might get brownie points with the church... and maybe actual brownies" said the dragonkin, ignoring the fact Marcus just butchered his name.

Guiseppe Gasparo

Meeting the gaze of the armored warrior, Marcus, Guiseppe kept a neutral expression while hearing the man. His wisened, azure eyes didn't show any subtle shift despite the tone of Marcus voice. He did however adjust the frame of his glasses, appearing to be in deep thought about something, while also taking in consideration the possibilities brought up by Izuru. The dragon-humanoid could actually be very close to the truth. "As much as I hate to admit it, there were rumors inside my family that the Gasparo who owned this manor practice the darker arts... well, I suppose by now it is not rumors, but the truth. Now, if he was involved in something bigger, like a cult, is hard to say." Those words were spoken with a grave tone, the old man's voice thinking about its implications. "Still... to think this creature would linger after its possible summoner had passed away... if that were the case, at any rate." Running his fingers through his beard, his attention was shifted somewhere else.

Guiseppe watched in silence when Kite, courageously, dipped his fingers in the ectoplasm, touching the remains of the wraith. There was a subtle shift in the old merchant's posture, his expression unreadable for the moment. And, when Nox repeated the gesture, this time around even tasting the remains which coated her fingers, his eyebrows furrowed slightly, for a moment, before relaxing. While internally unnerved, his long experience as a merchant had taught him how to mask his expressions in an actor-like manner.

Upon the investigation of the bullet holes in the wall, Marcus could feel a breeze coming from them as well as a brighter ray of sunshine which, while the wraith was standing, did not exist. There was a faint sound of chirping, probably coming from some kind of bird, hinting that the wall lead to the outside. The general atmosphere of the manor had shifted, almost as if becoming 'lighter', if only slightly.

When Kite began to scoop up the Wraith's remains, the old merchant's eyebrows twitched slightly, turning around and walking up to some of the bookshelves of the bedroom. His eyes quickly scanned the spines of the books, not seeing Kite smearing the ectoplasm on one of the curtains to clean his hands, but finding not a single clue from the books themselves.

The bedroom itself had some other noteworthy findings in it:

  • On top of the king-sized bed, there were many notes written in some sort of code. At the bottom of the pages, however, they were noted with standard time-keeping of dates. Upon organization, the notes began quite a few years ago and the last one dated on the same day of the last month. There weren't notes for every single day, being sporadic. On the most recent of the notes, there were three glyphs, starting from the top of the page and going to its bottom.
  • Under the carpet, just in front of the bed, the very first glyph of the notes had been drawn upon the floorboards. It was hard to make-out what kind of substance had been used to create it. Furthermore, the glyph didn't seem to hold any power at the moment, being just a marking like any other.
  • In a nightstand, near the king-sized bed, there was an iron key which rested upon the furniture.
Despite the bedroom itself, there were other rooms on the top-floor, most being smaller bedrooms. Upon a lengthy investigation of each one of them, there was, unfortunately, nothing noteworthy inside of them: clothing inside drawers, which were beyond ruined; a few books here and there about mundane subjects; chairs and tables; mold, quite a bit of it, some parts even having growing fungi. There was no sign of any other glyph in the top floor.

The search didn't really seem to yield much for him. The holes seemed to lead outside, where birds chirped cheerily in stark contrast to the cryptic mansion they'd fonud themselves in. Only, it seemed to reinforce what they probably already picked up on. "So the cause of the darkness in here is the ghouls. That must explain their potent aversion to Nox's light." It was a statement of the obvious, but it didn't to mention it just in case. As he conducted search.

"Next time, I'll be sure to bring a lantern or candle." A rookie mistake. But Marcus was used to trekking through battlefields. It was rare for him to fight at night or in the dark -- outside the attack upon a well lit camp. Walking into haunted houses and dungeons seemed as though it would be shaping up to have some differences.

The half-breed seemed to catch onto Marcus' subtleties. Even if Guiseppe was soon to chime in, he wasn't necessarily the most trustworthy. Whatever biases Marcus may have had toward the dragonblood flew practically towards the wayside in the favor of the practical. He was the only source of information outside of Guiseppe himself -- serving as a cross reference of sorts.

"This would have been pertinent information to know before." Marcus' tone dialed down, turning from bubbling anger to irritation. The answer made sense with the half-breed's suggestion. It implies that was what he saw. "We shouldn't rule a cult or some such activity. The mansion's size could accommodate it covertly." He said.

Just in that moment, Marcus turned from the bullethole just in time to catch sight of Nox taking Kite's actions a step further and tasting the creature's fluids. For a moment, the night stared on dumbfounded. Yet his observational nature leaned to him, looking at her fangs as she licked the "ectoplasm" from her fingers. She then spoke of the fluid lacking in life essence and thus anything for her. He put two and two together to understand her to be some species of bloodsucker.

What company have I choosen to call a "team?"

Moving on, he was shaken from his thoughts as she spoke. "....Very well. I agree small groups. We search upstairs." While the Warrior was accustomed to following orders and saw the vampire as the unspoken leader of the group currently, he made a suggestion, guided by newfound information brought about Izuru and their client. Nox's search lead his own eyes to a few key objects in the room as she spoke.

"Conspiracy or not, the relative likely had something to hide. Perhaps when we go downstairs, we ought to search the basement. I saw a large metal door which blocked it." He gave a suggestion, but efficiency demanded the move as a unit. Marcus gave a brief look to the papers and objects on the bed -- but he could hardly make heads or tales of such mythic writings or what they meant. "Perhaps you might be able to tell more about this, half-...I mean Izaru. You have quite active eyes no?" A shrug of his shoulders. He acknowledged his limits when it came to the occult. But he could point out the writings to someone who may have had better knowledge of this type of thing.

"A Key...." Marcus spotted the object out in the open -- and moved to take it. After a brief inspection, he put it in a pouch on his belt.

Marcus would then split off to join the rest of them in a search of the mansion's upper floor. It seemed there was little of interest there. Thus with whoever so went with him to search, he would go downstairs.

The warrior's eyes landed on the door which led to the basement, and while he waited for the party to reassemble, he would move towards the door to try out the key he had found. He would seek to see if the key could unlock that door. If it did, he would not enter. He wouldn't open the door if it unlocked. If not, then he would simply return to the lobby to wait for the others.

Nox nodded in agreement with Marcus's assessment of the situation. The revelation about the mansion's dark history and the potential presence of a cult sent a chill down her spine, reinforcing the sense of foreboding that lingered in the air. Guiseppe's admission only added weight to their suspicions, leaving Nox to wonder what other secrets this mansion held within its walls. That being said she hadn't been hired to solve any mysteries or conspiracies. Her task was simple, clear the building of any unwanted guests and ensure Guiseppe's safety.

As the group dispersed to search the upper floor, Nox moved methodically from room to room, her keen eyes scanning for any signs of paranormal activity or hidden secrets. However, aside from the remnants of the wraith's presence, she found nothing out of the ordinary, having been beaten by Markus to the key. The rooms appeared to be deserted, bearing the eerie stillness of a place long abandoned by its inhabitants.

Reaching the base of the stairs, Nox observed Marcus's attempt to unlock the basement door with the key he had found. She watched in silence, her expression unreadable as she considered the implications of unlocking the door. While her instincts urged her to investigate further, she couldn't shake the feeling that they were treading into dangerous territory.

"Be cautious, Marcus," Nox cautioned, her voice soft but firm. "Opening the basement may expose us to unforeseen dangers. We have yet to fully explore the ground floor, and it may be wise to ensure that area is secure before delving deeper into the unknown."

Turning back to look up the stairs to the rest of the group Nox would wait patiently for them to finish their business upstairs.

"Though ultimately Guiseppe will be the one to decide our next course of action I suppose."

With things settled down and Kite having a vase full of ghastly goo he let out a soft sigh as the others looked around. With the discovery of a key and talk of a cult the excitement swelled within him again as Marcus made his way down the stairs to what was the basement door. ”Wait up, I'll come with you.

Kite hurried down the stairs making sure to not spill any of the vases contents, taking up post behind Marcus to watch his back just in case. Nox spoke up about clearing the bottom floor first and Kite silently agreed with her statement, but he was also curious about the basement. Unsure of what to do he decided to let the more veteran members or Giuseppe decide their next move.

“Seems we have some down time, we should take a moment to plan our next move.”

A simple statement, but perhaps a needed one after the hectic battle they had just gone through. Maybe everyone felt a little hurried or on edge, a moment to think and gain clarity might be what everyone needed.

Izuru was a bit disappointed when Giuseppe acted like Izuru was simply spitballing things when it was obvious the dragonkin was trying to point the old man in the right direction to spill the tea about the whole dark cultist thing. Sighing for a bit while the group began making their preparations to investigate. Izuru wondered how he'd be able to contribute. Marcus had called him over to inspect some rather mysterious looking writings. Now this looked like a bunch of chicken scratch ran through an eldritch cipher so Izuru was all around confused on what the hell he was even looking at. However it wasn't like he had any other option but to inspect it. Giving the writings a glance over with [Appraisal E] and [Arcana F]. A short break was taken so he could rest his eyeballs before going for another round of [Appraisal E] and [Arcana F].

Yes, Izuru was attempting to force arcane knowledge into existence with nothing more than a prayer and a dream. Hearing something about Marcus using a key he found. The dragonkin mage was on edge due to his knowledge of spooky haunted houses telling him that iron keys to lower floors usually meant things would get harder on the way down. A spooky gothic castle was the inverse, where the obstacles got harder as they ventured to HIGHER floors. The banshee thing from before was difficult enough. Anything stronger than that would FLATTEN him.

Explore The Ruins - Darkest Dungeon

Upon using his [Arcana F] + [Appraisal E] on the notes, Izuru managed to get some information about the pages. The pages were detailing summoning rituals, dealing with eldritch entities and others beings from the beyond. The final page, however, was the only one which had the diagrams for the ritual, which was given more importance in the pages. The three glyphs were to be used in the same ritual, the elevation of each appearing to be an important part to where each one should be drawn. If the ritual had been performed to its conclusion, it should be expected for the two remaining glyphs to be found in the manor.

When Marcus tried to stick the key into the keyhole, it was a perfect fit. And, when he tried to turn it around, the lock mechanism was released, generating an audible 'click' which were heard by all members of the party. The access to the basement was, at that moment, unlocked, albeit the door had remained closed.

Guiseppe's azure eyes glinted with interest when he heard the unlocking of the door which gave access to the basement, being at the bottom of the stairs and wondering where the group would head out next. He took a moment to place down the source of light he was carrying, not seeing much use for it at the present.

The old merchant looked pensive for a moment, as if deciding the next course of action. He didn't see much rime or reason to change the initial plan which had been laid out by Nox, even more so considering her standing with the Ryke Adventurer's Guild (Grade D), the Moon-Blessed Vampire, for now, holding the highest sway over him. "I say we continue with the original plan: survey this floor before going into the basement." He commented, looking at every single one of them in turn before turning towards the kitchen.

Approaching the door that lead towards it, he grabbed the handle of it, but stopped. "Maybe it is better to burst into it this time around. Nox, Marcus and Kite, take forward positions. Izuru and I will take backline." Guiseppe's demeanor had changed, strangely, from simply bursting into the manor when they all got to it, to deciding the initial positioning of the group. Izuru's might piece things together that, whatever information he had gotten from Guiseppe during his first Appraisal, was simply false information.

Waiting a moment longer to see if the whole group were prepared for it, he opened the door, letting the melee combatants in first, before entering it himself.

Battle in the Ruins - Darkest Dungeon

As soon as the door was opened, the smell of rotten flesh increased many, many times. It barely took a moment for the group to discover the source of it.

Zombie.png

Several humanoids stood in different areas of the kitchen, a light shuffling coming from their feet as they walked mindlessly. The creatures were in different stages of decomposition, some still had a lightly lively color on their skin, the others were grayish. Open wounds were common on their visage, skin torn off, some of them being so deep as to show the fat and bone.

It took only a moment until the undead's attention were directed towards the door of the kitchen, where the group was located. As if something glinted in their lifeless eyes, the creatures began to shuffle, rapidly, at the group. Hungry grunts and moans leaving mouths, appearing to be glad to finally have given flesh to eat. The group better act swiftly, lest they be overwhelmed by them.

Nox moved into position as Guiseppe suggested, her eyes narrowing as she prepared herself for whatever lay beyond the door. The moment it opened, the foul stench of rotting flesh assaulted her senses, causing her to recoil slightly. But as her sense of smell adjusted and her eyes caught a glimpse of the source, she felt her heartbeat begin to soar, it's echo filling her ears as blood began to quickly surge around her body.

Stepping forward, her heel hit the floor with a loud and firm click. Her body arched forward as she reached for her sheath. For a moment, it seemed as though she was ready to take point, but in the next instant, her arching form quickly fell, her free hand catching her as she took a knee with her trailing leg. It appeared as though she had succumbed to a sudden dizzy spell. However, to anyone observing closely, the tension in her hand and leg muscles revealed the truth—she had purposefully assumed this position. As everyone would soon come to see when her blade hand quickly drew her blade and positioned it behind her.

Raising her head, Nox fixed her gaze on the hobbling monsters, their decayed and rotting bodies becoming her focus. Her dim red eyes had transformed into bright, predatory ones, her gaze even more intense than their own. Her gaze went from zombie to zombie, husk to husk, neck to neck. After each had been subjected to her intense scrutiny, her gaze finally settled on the closest one to her. (L12)

With a deep exhale, she lunged at the creature, closing the distance in the blink of an eye. Her blade swiftly embedded in its side as she manoeuvred behind it with ominous efficency. Like a snake, she struck the creature's neck from behind, digging her fangs in deep and extracting its blood rapidly. Once drained, in a swift motion, she split the creature into two halves with her embedded katana.

But she wasn't done. Having tasted the blood of her foe her eyes burned with even greater intensity as she turned to the duo of monsters beside her (M10, N10). With a vicious swing of her katana, she lashed out at them with the brutality of a wild, maddened animal. Her coat was stained with the rotting blood of the creature she had just eviscerated. Amidst the collection of zombies, it was hard to tell who the real monster was. But one thing was clear: getting in the way of Nox and her prey would not end well for anyone involved.

Whatever had happened, the refined and well-mannered adventurer had vanished, replaced with a beserk and brutal beast. A beast like something out of a twisted fairytale, a fairytale some might have read in the past.

Kite nodded as a decision was made and followed the group toward the kitchen, taking a frontal position as ordered. He stepped into the room and immediately began to breathe through his mouth to offset the foul stench. It was definitely the worst thing he's ever smelled by far.

Then he saw them, the zombies that packed the room, and he felt true fear. A ghost is one thing, but zombies eat you and that terrified Kite. His hand trembled as he set the vase down next to him and drew his sword, keeping his eyes trained on the undead before him.

His concentration was broken by a blurred figure crossing his path in a frenzy, and he witnessed the pure carnage inflicted by Nox. He was speechless as he suddenly was more afraid of her than the zombies ahead. He gripped his sword tightly in his left hand before steeling his resolve and turning toward a different group of zombies, getting ready to move into range.

A thought crossed his mind first and he turned, dipping the tip of his sword into the vase of ectoplasm and using his right hand to smear it all over the blade before wiping his hand off on his pants. After doing this Kite lunged forward and to the left, crossing in front of Marcus to attack the two zombies on his left(F13). He swung his sword in a horizontal slash attempting to strike the first opponent in his right before following up with a second basic strike to the one on his right.

Izuru was actually quite amazed that such an interesting piece of magical information would just be left out like this. If he was able to gather the necessary supplies, he may be able to repurpose these at some point in the future. Naturally he wouldn't be using PEOPLE as resources since a steady supply of those in decent quality was an unrealistic ask. Tucking the notes into his coat for later. Giuseppe also seemed to change his demeanor some when they were going to enter the door that Marcus opened. Perhaps some of the intel he had currently on the old man needed some revision. Izuru couldn't really trust Giuseppe given that the man had taken them to a dark cultist manor as well as the fact he was a Merchant. Those who sell you things are just as likely to screw you over, after all. Giuseppe's plan had Izuru accompanying the old guy in the back row. A tried and true formation for any regular party. It was also a good formation for Giuseppe to abandon them if things got far worse than the old man would have liked.

The concerns of Izuru were proven when the room they entered was FULL OF ZOMBIES. Not just one or two but almost enough to make up a horde. Not only was Izuru distressed by the sheer number of undead in this place. He was also worried about Old Giuseppe turning tail and sealing them in here with the rotting, shambling corpses. Izuru wasn't sure how to strategize given that they faced considerable numbers. However he wasn't in the mood to die so he began incanting a spell to hopefully make things a little more bearable, filling the air with the scent of honeycomb. After that he moved forward so that he could attack the nearest zombie to him.

The sound of the door unlocking. The key was a perfect fit. "I wonder. Was this made to keep something out? Or to keep something in?" Marcus still in truth believed that they should likely approach the basement first. If there was something of an anchor -- it was probably there. Though in truth, he didn't know for sure. Perhaps whatever Izuru saw in the notes might have given a better answer.

Yet as Nox spoke, he simply locked the door again. "I would prefer we go down there. However, I defer to your judgement." Despite reservations within him that grew from learning of her species, Nox was one of the most veteran adventurers here. In his eyes, she was perhaps the closest thing to have a squad leader.

Click.

The door was locked promptly. And Marcus would return to the rest of the group. "Guiseppe is a merchant. I believe him competent in leading when it comes to matters of commerce. But you should be who leads us on this job, Nox." While he felt some type of way about both Nox and Izuru's species, he ultimately wished to remain practical. Choosing to follow that who he saw as most practical.

How ironic his statement to Nox was in the face of what came next.

(Optional) Altars of Apostasy

Marcus would rejoin the group and enter the kitchen. There, they would be met with a larger array of enemies than what they'd met before. A different breed of undead shambled about, one much more numerous then the last ones. Marcus eyes dart about between the undead. Yet as over two dozen of the shambling creatures threatened their party, his eyes would fall upon Nox, who appeared to suffering as she crouched low to the ground.

"Nox. Are you-" She dashed off without response, sinking her teeth into the creature to feed off it as her blade began to rend it in two. Her eyes became bloodstained as she moved like something of a wild beast, looking to rip through the monsters. Marcus' eyes narrowed in suspicion as now; he had been taken by surprise by yet another secret, it seemed. He could sense a sort of danger from her.

After Kite reacted in horror moment's display of horror, he watched the spellblade run to the left. Then he watched as Izuru went to the right. "Izaru. Get over here." He said loudly. "Nox is a threat." He spoke loudly, and clearly. There was little time for a solid explanation. But the woman had been launching attacks with very little regard for the safety of those around her. She was still of use, channeling her abilities to the monsters on the right. But now she presented something of a new hazard. One that had to be kept track of.

"Join us on the left. You too Guiseppe. Get behind Kite and shoot someone." All he could truthfully hope for would be that the man either does what he says. Maybe, he would run away. In truth, that would be preferable to him doing nothing. But Marcus offered direction despite his lack of standing or really, much interest in the guild at all. The objective was for the man to not die and perhaps...be of some use.

He felt the burden of leadership, fall quietly onto his own shoulders. Whether or not this was true was another thing. But the situation appeared to be degrading. With those fleeting seconds gone, it was his turn to take to the front. The weight of the burden however, broke mental chains which as yet locked his mind down. It felt as though a surge of electricity had been going through him. Perhaps it was the shock of the situation.

I remember now.

The Conduit shifts in Marcus' hand -- becoming a spear once more.

A whistle in the air. From the perspective of the undead directly in front of him -- Marcus' Winged conduit would get larger. And larger. And larger. Until. SHLICK. It would stab the shambler [I10] in the neck -- punching through the stroke and tearing through the spine as the armor-piercing blade exited out the back of the neck. [Stinger E]

"Rest now." If the stinger struck true, a twist of the spear in the neck would be all it takes, for the creature's head would come off.

The blood-red mane on Marcus' helmet trailed behind him as he swiftly trotted the left to his next position [G13] right next to Kite. His traditional spear was held tightly in hand -- before being thrown towards the undead at H10. The spear would fly into the creature -- seeking to punch through its head and nail to the once exquisite dinner table in the room's center. He kept the conduit for himself since it seemed outright better.

"I'm with you, Kite." He said to Kite, letting him know he was near. Half for support and morale. And half for Kite to not get startled and hit him in the face accidentally. The Warrior kept steady control of his breath. Marcus felt no shame for the anxiety he felt, but it did not show beneath that plate armor he wore. Instead, he used the anxiety to keep him alert. For the sake of everyone, he sought to keep track of all that was happening. And think how best to guide the group in the absence of their current most experienced member.

Steel wrapped feet slid apart as he adopted a bladed combat stance -- facing the enemy with spear pointed towards target and shoulders ready to defend. The most immediately relevant concepts on his mind, were which target to strike at next and when.

Battle in the Ruins - Darkest Dungeon

With the foul stench hitting his nostrils, Guiseppe’s face contorted and twisted for a moment. His eyes narrowed, seeing the myriad of undead who were located in that very room. The creatures were like a cruel parody of once living beings, driven by a pure and insatiable desire to consume the flesh of whatever creature they came across. To the horrible stench, there was a brief respite: Izuru’s capabilities of shifting smells around him ended up bringing the stench down a lot. For the moment, the smell was more bearable, being comparable to a single piece of meat going bad, rather than several full-human-sized corpses in different states of decomposition.

However, there was something who unnerved the old merchant in many higher grades of magnitude than the group of undead present in the room. And it was none other than the Rank D Adventurer, Nox Bloodraven. Seeing the swordswoman shift demeanor in a way he could only describe as primal and monstrous, his eyes widened as he watched the female sink her fangs into the neck of the undead, draining the remaining blood it still had. This time, not even his trained expertise could keep his face from having an expression of pure disgust and worry. The high-standing she had with him plummeted, like a bag of rocks, the merchant wondering if the guild had botched their vetting procedure. That was until he remembered something he had overlooked in her guild card previously: she was a Moon-Blessed Vampire, which was better than being a regular monster, but only slightly in his eyes.

Nox’s attack quickly dispatched all enemies which were within its original range. The undead at located at [M10] and [N10] being hit by the mix of Holy Ice and Bleed. With the katana connecting against them, there was a brief moment in which their bodies appeared to be covered by ice, before shattering, quickly melting.

The exception was [I10], which, after being frozen in place, received an attack from Marcus’ Chimeric Conduit. The attack against its neck was enough to make the head detach from the body, making it shatter as soon as it hit the ground, before the body itself was shattered. The contents of the cranium were spread throughout the floor.

Varying shades of crimson blood now stained the floor, a good quantity of it splashing against the Moon-Blessed Vampire’s clothing and skin. And the same happened with the tip and a good portion of Marcus’ spear, being coated with the viscous, which slowly oozed along the shaft, towards his gauntlets.

Izuru’s previous attempt of controlling the smell of the place being overpowered by the now metallic tint in the air. The undead at [H10] was also affected by the attack, the exposed organs in its form dripping a viscous liquid, which formed a pool around its feet. The exposed innards of the creature kept dripping blood. Extending its hands forward, the creature began shuffling towards Nox.

Yet, before it could actually start moving, Marcus’ took a new positioning at [G13], back-to-back with Kite. Bringing up his own spear, the armored warrior brought it up before tossing the weaponry towards the zombie at [H10]. As the spear flew through the air, it connected against the zombie’s skull. However, instead of removing its head, it became stuck partially against the creature’s head, going halfway in before fulling stopping. That was enough to bring the creature down at its feet, crumbling with the strength of the attack.

Izuru’s plan to attack the undead at [L12] had been foiled, as the creature was already in shambles when the draconian-human had moved up to [L13]. The advancement of his position, however, wasn’t for naught. The zombie located at had made its way to [M13], shambling, with uneasy steps who appeared that would give out at any moment, it reached its hands with uncanny hunger, wanting to get a bite of the of Izuru. The mage was able to redirect his attack to it, the arcanic and poetic verses generating a bolt of darkness energy which shot squarely against the undead’s chest, bringing it, making it crumple like a marionette having its strings cut.

Kite, having already advanced towards his new position at [F13], attacked twice with his sword that was covered by the ectoplasm which he had procured earlier from the fallen wraith. The stick substance stuck to his blade, as it dance through the air, first against the zombie at [F12] and then at the one at [E13]. The horizontal slash was able to easily carve the flesh of the zombie at [F12], severing the hanging organs and making them fall towards the ground, dark blood splashing at the spellblade’s feet. The creature fell, lifeless, the body slumping towards the ground. His follow-up attack, now against the foe at [E13], struck true and pierced the flesh of the creature. While the creature was not brought down by this attack, it appeared the coating of the weapon had a peculiar effect: the zombie tried to return the attack against Kite, swiping its hands against them, yet it appeared that it couldn’t being done with its full power. Now it was up to the spellblade to decide how he was going to deal with it, moving out of the way not being a choice.

The rest of the creatures which permeated the room didn’t sit idly. They shambled towards the group, looking for whoever was closest to try and take a bite at them and consume the much-needed flesh their undead nature required. They swiped their hands, tried to claw and take a hold of each.

Marcus’ words seemed to strike a chord with Guiseppe. With the Eastern warrior keeping his cool and actually trying to strategize, in addition to pointing out that keeping a close distance to Nox would be dangerous, the merchant naturally decided to heed his words and put himself into action, while being out of harm’s way. The merchant moved towards Kite, stopping at [F15], between the barrels. Seeing that one of the undead had moved dangerously close to both him and Kite at [E14], the human brought him his firearm. Taking a moment to aim, there was gunfire in the next second, ringing throughout the room. The bullet pierced the zombie’s form, killing it where it stood.

Guiseppe's Actions:
1 - Moved to [F15]
2 - Took aim at the zombie in [E14]
3 - Attacked the zombie in [E14]

Marcus being attacked by: [G12], [H13]

Trying to move over corpses will require an additional action per corpse. Plan your movements accordingly to use the last amount of actions as possible (or don't :lenny:)
