With the Ajax and Valkyries, Automatic Dodge while airborne is a thing. However, the ASC... hasn't quite figured out how to get the VHTs airborne for long enough. And... they're still working on their airborne agility and whatnot. It's... like they're tanks or something!

It's moments like this I have to reflect on what I'm really doing in life.

What is it to roll the dice? What is it to miss a shot? Was it that I missed what I was aiming at? Or did they fail to defend my real target?

These are the questions we have to ask ourselves D. Rex D. Rex

A strange, ghostly-sound voice echoes through OOC channel. "Use the polyheeeeedrons! Uuuuuuse the polyheeeedrons!! The RP Nation dice are here to make you suffer! They are only good once in a while to confuuuuse yooooou!"

Dannigan puts down the rolled up paper tube and smiles. "Oh. Hi everybody!" 8D

Yeah, but if I discard the handicap of a digital dice roller, where will all the challenge, frustration, and jokes go?

Sometimes you just gotta let the botched rolls tell a story just as much as the critical successes.

With missiles being launched at us 24 at a time, this player is perfectly happy not letting RP Nation's dice roller kill his character. And besides. We are creative people - we can create the fun! Where else does it come from?

I'm only speaking for myself, of course. I want you to have fun whichever way you choose, Rykon! =)

Of course. I can understand the preference for physical dice and I retain the same bias myself. However, that is overtaken by the bias of making that "roll" myself so I can know the outcomes of my decisions are my own doing, in its own weird way. Even if that roll is just a bunch of bits behind the scenes.

Besides, some of the most fun I've had at a table is from throwing caution out the window and walking into trouble with not but a vague plan and a willingness to take some risks.

I think I understand you. I just have this thing where if I am going to win or lose, let it be by elements I can trust. I have always trusted the polyhedron (non-weighted) dice. Plus, I like the sound of dice, their feel, their look, perhaps even more than the miniatures some use in their tabletop games. Unlike computerized rollers, I have a sentimental bond with many of my dice as they have traveled with me through my life and thus, cannot be replaced. I am perfectly willing to go through a bad trail of muddy luck, but especially so if it is polyhedron dice taking me through the slog! =)

Oh for sure. I had acquired a large bundle of dice a few years ago to play some of the ridiculous d10 bucket sessions of Exalted with some friends locally. Since then I started going for a few sets of metal dice for that satisfying weight of finality behind the roll, y'know? It's a hard feeling to replace, gaming at a table in person. Still... we have good times here on RPN.

That we do! One of the elements I enjoy most of play by post is that we can go back in any moment in time, including this one, and enjoy it all over again. As much as I love tabletop, the memories like rain touching the earth, fade in time.

jaydude jaydude Hey, people! I see a Jaydude checking out our in-character game here! Aren't you in Sherwood's most-recent UEEF Robotech game? Welcome and enjoy your stay. Psychie is a good Game Master who runs a fair game. She keeps us busy with the fun! =)

Hmm. Think I might have come here after mistaking this game for the one I was in.

Yes, I'm in Sherwood's game, and yes, I'm sure Psychie's a good GM after all the time I've spent with her.

Sherwood and I are old buddies. He introduced me to Robotech waaay back and no one on RP Nation runs more Robotech games than he does! This particular game is set before the UEEF (United Earth Expeditionary Force) game you're in. In this ASC (Army of Southern Cross) game, our team is back on Earth facing the threat from the Robotech Masters (well, we're closer to the Moon, right now). =)

Hey Psychie Psychie ? How are we handling Ryuko, now that Asuka is no longer with us? Is the character still in the wreckage of her Ajax? If she is still there, it would be Deunan's knee-jerk reaction to try and rescue her, or at least, recover her body. I wasn't sure if we were going to just say she was not with us for this.

I've seen stuff like this go down before and the way it was taken care of, I got the impression Ryuko's been completely written out of the game and we're not to worry or think of her any longer. She's just gone. Sure, it might not be what's accurate in-game, but Real Life Always Comes First and that means OOC beats IC (at least in my head).

Of course, that's just me reading into it. Only Psychie knows for sure. Personally, I think the quicker we move on from that, the better.

Thank you for checking, Sherwood Sherwood . In order to avoid any issues with the story continuity, we will simply remove Ryuko from the scene, and say she was transferred out of your team before takeoff.

Thank you! That makes things SO much easier.

Deunan says, "Just so long as it doesn't start playing the Muzak version of 'The Girl From Ipanina' we should be good. Everyone, just keep watch on the time. We have less than 90 minutes to get the virus program inserted before it is fold space time."

On a private line to Marlon, she goes on with, "Hey. You are starting to make me worry. Are you fishing for a medal, or a plot of dirt six feet deep? Your tank has wonderful amounts of armor in your shields. Please use them, because if you die, I'll kick your ass."

This post is telling on two levels and I find them both to my liking. The first is the whole Muzak version of the Brazilian favorite (because if it starts playing, I am SO blaming Sherwood while Gabi might blame Conway!). A little more deeply though is Conway's transmission to Marlon. Perhaps it's me, but I don't recall the last time we got into this level of roleplaying in this game. It's been too long and I am glad for its return. =)

Even more good news is that there is no horrifying Muzak to listen to, sparing your sanity from that kind of onslaught.

Drone mainframe: "What?! Where is the Muzak?! Wheeeerre?!"

Music drone: "I iz asleep."

Drone mainframe: "What?! No Muzak to drive away Third Heavy Recon?! My diabolical plan! Ruined! And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" (and hats off to anyone who gets that reference!) =)

Gabi, if I recall correctly, your drones are pretty small and have a tiny radar signature.

Psychie Psychie

It's your call, of course - I would argue that a drone the size of Dragonfly (no wider than a large pizza box) has no radar signature at all. It's just too small.

With Gabi's drone giving you some 'eye-in-the-sky' route info,

I wanted to address this last night, but my head shut me down (and I'm "off" today). I meant to ask, Psychie Psychie Is there any way for either our Ajax, Valkyries, or VHTs to provide "overwatch" or some kind of cover fire for the naked ground crew we have out there? I mean, one bad guy shows up and they're dead.

There may be some ways to aid your fellows, depending on how much risk you want to take on.

One way is to go ahead and spring the trap, and cause as much ruckus as you can to draw away any attention from the two on foot as possible. The risk there is that you are down two of your tanks, and you are not sure just how many drones there are in the city area that you would be dealing with.

Another is to see if your own mecha can't do a sneak further into the city. The hover tanks are very small and are pretty well optimized for urban combat, and the Ajax is not really that much bigger. The only ones that really stand out are the two Valkyries, and they can hang back and zip in fast if needed.

A third option is to try and draw away the ambush force by making a distraction nearby on the same level.

There are probably other ideas you can pull out, but these are just the ones that quickly come to my mind as I sit here.
