What's the best way for me to inform you of me deciding to act or take the hit? Should I do it in IC with ((I'll take the hit.)) or a short action post explaining that I'll take the hit? OR should I just do it here, like I am right now.

If I should declare in OOC, then that's my answer: take the hit. If it should be in IC, just let me know and I'll reply accordingly.

I usually keep all of the combat stuff in the IC thread, but since you posted here that you are taking the hits, that works. Look to the IC thread for your damage.

So in my CS, it says 'Number of Attacks: 5', does that mean I can effectively attack 5 times in one turn? Example: I'd like to roundhouse kick Kitanni 3 while I immediately swing my Staff of Power and hit Kitanni 4.

In general, that means that you can act at 5 different occasions during a combat round - where a combat round means that all characters involved use all of their attacks. Disregarding certain actions that might use multiple attacks, you can only use one attack at any given time - so for example, at your initiative step, you may perform a roundhouse kick, and the next time you may swing your staff, not both actions at the same time.

Basically, the number of attacks does not let you do more stuff immediately, but it allows you to act late in the round where noone else has any actions left to hit you back or dodge. There's a post in the lore section (third one) that clarifies the system further, take a look at that one as well - Sherwood's better at explaining how things work.

EDIT: Should have kept my mouth shut and done more damage! Ah, well, its the price I pay for my mistake. lol
Psychie Psychie On the contrary, good Psychie.
I'm going to tell you something.

I'm glad you brought it up - I admire people with integrity and cannot stand a cheater. That you pointed out your mistake and rectified it; that's something I can respect.

Keep it up, lady. =)

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

Silanon touched on this, but here is a copy of what I have in the Lore section on how I run combat in the Palladium system:

Everyone gets a number of attack actions that are listed on your sheet. As we go through the combat, I will keep track of how many actions you have used in the fight in a running chart that I will post with each person's action. It will look like this, and will count down the Initiative count for who is next up in the fight:

21 - Mark <====
18 - bad guy 1
15 - bad guy 2
12 - Steve
8 - Mary
7 - bad guy 3

In the example above, Mark has a initiative of 21 and goes first, and the arrow indicates that it is his turn. He declares his first action, and makes a to-hit roll. For sake of saving time, you can also post your damage at this point, and if you hit, I'll mark whichever target you hit with the damage. If you miss, I just disregard the damage to the enemy.

The to-hit roll is a d20. A natural 1-4 is a automatic miss, no matter how many bonuses you have, and a '1' is a fumble of some sort, and it can result in you having to clear a jammed weapon or some other effect that is appropriate for the scene and what you are using. On the flipside, a natural 20 is a Critical Strike, and will always hit and do double damage. Some martial arts and combat styles have an extended Critical Strike ranges of 19-20, or even an 18-20. I will do my best to remember which character has this available, but I am juggling a bunch of players here, and in the end, it falls upon you to keep track of what your character can do.

As everyone attacks, I mark off their actions:

21 - Mark [2]
18 - bad guy 1 [2]
15 - bad guy 2 [2]
12 - Steve [1] <====
8 - Mary [1]
7 - bad guy 3 [1]

This shows that everyone has had their first actions, and Mark and bad guys 1 and 2 have used their second attacks, and now Steve is up.

When you are attacked with a ranged weapon, you have the option to dodge the attack. The downside to this is that it uses one of your actions. It can burn through your actions quickly and if you don't watch out, you'll run out of available actions.

In melee combat and you are attacked, you have the added option to parry. The advantage to this is that it doesn't use an action, but Steve with his sword can't quite block a bullet or energy blast, so there are times when the only options are to dodge or let yourself get hit.

21 - Mark [2] <====
18 - bad guy 1 [2]
15 - bad guy 2 [2]
12 - Steve [3]
8 - Mary [2]
7 - bad guy 3 [2]

See how Steve has used up three of his actions and everyone else has only used two? He used one to dodge.

When everyone has used up all of their actions, that round is over and a new one begins.

Thanks, Dannigan! That means a lot!

Hey Forgy Forgy , just a thought, but your Power Staff would do a lot more damage than a roundhouse kick does. Perhaps you can edit your post and use your big stick to play thwack-a-mole?

I'm aware of that, but what fun is constantly swinging the same item around 24/7? Roleplay isn't like a video game. I'm not here to min/max the game.

Hey everyone! Just to give you all a quick heads-up, I'm taking a plane flight to Texas to visit some family later today, so I will be off line for a few hours while I travel. I'm bringing my tablet along so I can keep posting over the weekend, but I won't be on as much over the next few days.

Thanks for the note - safe travels, enjoy the time with your family! We'll be able to live through a couple of days with fewer posts :)

Have fun and don't be too worried about posting!

I rolled for damage on my last post again. Thanks again, Sherwood. I'll try to improve my knowledge that way I can start pre-rolling my actions! (Mostly need to understand what actions correlate with my characters bonuses and abilities.)

No worries! I expect you to make mistakes as you learn the ropes. That's fine. Just do your best, roleplay your character, and have fun! If you ever have a question, ask me or any of the other players and we'll be happy to help out.

Usually to help speed things along, when you make an attack, first post your d20 for your to hit, then add a damage roll with it. If you miss because of a defenders' dodge or parry, I'll post that and disregard the damage done (unless it is in a crowd where you may hit a bystander, or some other significant reason like that). If you do connect, I just take your damage roll and apply it without having to wait for another post. Sound good? :coolshades:

Sounds great! As time goes on, I promise I'll learn more and be more preemptive about everything. 😶

Um, is it my turn to make another action? I looked at the IC and my name had the next arrow. I thought I had already done damage to Kitanni 3.

Um, is it my turn to make another action?

It is not - the arrow is still there since Sherwood Sherwood waited for your damage roll, and thus your action was not completed yet; note that Kittani 3 acts right after you, so he needed to wait to see if you somehow manage to take him out already before he gets to act. You'll see an update as soon as he finds the time to move things forward, I'd presume.

Okay, thanks! I sorta figured that was the case, but I didn't want everyone to wait on me forever in case it wasn't, since I too was waiting for someone's else to respond. I'm not impatient, I promise, just making sure I'm not slowing anything down!

Yep. I'm just trying to catch up on a dozen messages and relax from traveling with my five year old. I'll update the IC thread momentarily.

Lol I'm running four games, and in five others as a player.
