is that how all games are or only games online? i ask becuase im used to being able to use all of my actions on my turn, thats how ive always done it / seen it done. whether it be in rifts or d&d.

Even in tabletop gaming, this is how the Palladium system works, be it Rifts or Robotech or any of their games. If your own storyteller runs things different, that's up to him/her.

It has always been the case with Palladium games including Rifts that everyone gets to go once, then they go again until everyone runs out of attacks for the melee round. At which point, it's now a new melee round.

I believe the intent is to make sure people don't get bored, and that turns come quickly.

In Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 and prior along with /Pathfinder 1.0, if your character has multiple actions (say, a fighter with two attacks per round), that character gets both attacks in that round. But in those gaming systems, rounds are 6 seconds each, not 15.

Palladium allows for a lot more flexibility at the cost of increased difficulty. But that difficulty is entirely optional. Sherwood tends to keep his games nice and basic and easy to follow. However, Palladium does allow the option of turning up the heat.

For example, in Palladium, you can have two opponents just punching and blocking each other the whole fight (Strike, Parry, Strike, Parry, Strike, Yawn-and-Try-Not-to-Fall-Asleep and Parry, etc.), or you can really go hardcore martial arts and have a Knife-hand Strike countered by a Power Block/Parry, then the returning Roundhouse kick is both dodged and counterattacked by the defender's Reverse Turning Kick, which in turn puts it back in the attacker's turn who throws an Overhead Fore-Knuckle Fist that's been set up to be harder to parry, but the defender has Automatic Body Flip/Throw or Automatic Elbow Lock to counter that and so on and so on.

This is all without even getting into melee weapons.

As a good example, I am going to toss a short video (less than 3 1/2 minutes) spoiler below. It's just for entertainment. It's not real. But then again, neither is roleplaying!

Watch it closely (especially when it goes to the stairs!). Palladium is special because it lets you roleplay scenes like this in great detail with just about every martial art technique you can think of, without losing the spirit of the martial arts! In Palladium, you can have a "ping pong match," or you can have this:

Donnie Yen in Ip Man 3.

That sort of thing just doesn't happen in D&D/Pathfinder. At least, not in detail and not well. Those systems just aren't designed for it without throwing in a lot of House Rules.

But if you like martial arts in Real Life and you and your gaming buddies can follow it all, there's nothing like a good Palladium martial arts brawl to get the blood and imagination going! Hai! =)

Thanks! Glad I could share it with you! =)

Glad you were seemingly able to resolve some of the confusion... I think... random thought: Just noted that I actually have no clue about the special maneuvers you can do in the system. Somehow never had a character who truly needed those, quite aweseome to see them put to good use by some of the party members.

I'm not really a fan of voice chat. I like my privacy and maintain a strict RL/Internets policy. That said, typing in a channel is a lot easier, more responsive and (speaking selfishly) much easier for others to scroll/scan through to find anything relevant to them.

Oh well...

I am a limited fan of voice chat, but only if everyone involved is. By limited, I mean when it comes to talking out-of-character stuff like our conversation earlier today.

One of the things I really love about RP Nation is that every word posted in a thread stays. I have two campaigns going on. Both are over two years old. I love that I can go back and check out, word-for-word, everything that went on in-game and out-of-game! Sometimes, I reread adventures just to remember the thrill of it all, all over again.

So while voice chat has its uses, I don't like roleplaying via voice-chat. Give me RP Nation any day!

Couldn't agree more. While I enjoy having Discord for OOC chatter instead of having to scroll through 54 pages to find something, I like actual gameplay in RpNation. I like rereading good old RPs (Oh Zaile, wish I could play you again). And one definite disadvantage about Discord is that whenever a server is closed, all that history poofs into smoke.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who likes to reread old RPs. :)

Oh and... HOORAAAAY! Psychie Psychie got a Crit! 8D

Nice to know I'm not the only one who likes to reread old RPs. :)

Certainly not the only one - there are some rp posts out there that I could still quote after more than two years, and it's always a joy to take a look back at them.

Hey Dano Dano ? I am pretty certain that Trent needs an Initiative roll at the very least. I've never played a Palladium game where someone not in combat could enter and just choose which order they go in. But then again, this is Sherwood Sherwood 's game and perhaps he's running it a little differently. =)

He has been sitting back, waiting patiently, for a chance to do something, and he did PM me ahead of time to see if it was ok.

Hey, that's fine by me! It's your game after all. At least we know that Trent is in the fight (which might mean the same for Foss) and we now know where he goes in the Initiative order, right? =)

Yup. Although I don't believe that this last demon will last to the end of this round.

On a side note, Dano, you're new to Rifts. You get benefit of the doubt either way. =)

Most every game I've ever played contained House Rules of some kind, but in the end, the old guideline is still true - "It's in the game if the GM says so!" Ha ha! =)

That's the main reason I keep ending some of these thoughts of mine with "if Sherwood is running it that way". If all of us were to run a Rifts game, it would be different for each GM. And that's a good thing. It's just the nature of quality RPing. If everyone played the same way, what would be the point of playing? =)

Sherwood Sherwood Hey, Sherwood? Folks? Dann here. I'm suffering from another one of my wonderful ADHD-migraines and post-medicine, it's still not going away. I am not posting tonight.

Maybe skip Gradicus? Have the next person get the kill on the last demon? Keep the story moving for everybody? Otherwise, you're waiting on me until tomorrow sometime. I'd rather not hold up the game especially if someone else can benefit instead? Hope so. Good night.

Honor and fun,
Dann =)
