Rain

"I guess I underestimated the amount of stuff we're carrying. Steele, Airi, can one of you take this then? I want to give Xavier a break."

Letting the two of them decide who gets the bag, Rain once again places her hand over the dragon boy's shoulder and hums the same tune she did back at the battle with the Inspector. Water beads float around his injured shoulder, absorbing his pain.

"That should do. I can't take away exhaustion unfortunately."

Throwing a gentle smile to Xavier, Rain sticks her hand into her bag and toys with the bead. Her other self stays quiet throughout the trip back. The heat was starting to get to the singer, and she resorts to popping water beads into her mouth. They re-enter town shortly, and the others disperse to do their own thing.

"If I remember correctly, we'll have to pursue the dark shamans at night."

"Rain, I want you to room with Xavier."

"N-Not this again!"

"No, I want to talk with Perkisas and exchange stories. I'm quite curious about him."

Heaving a light sigh, Rain taps Xavier's unharmed shoulder.

"Xavier, do you mind if we room together? My other self wants to talk to Perkisas about something."

"Let her go, she has stuff to do." He replied back to her while gesturing her to follow him. They jumped down to ground level, not too far from the lake and close enough to the ship. "Alright, time to put you in shape. Considering that you've only discovered that you can use your legs as weapons, we'll start training you on those kicks. Samael."

With a flick of his fingers, the chains divided themselves into a separate set an snaked around Rena's legs, adjusting themselves in a way that her limbs were completely bond on her tightly.

"They'll act as weight on your legs to improve them. You won't notice it, but you'll become much tired than you think." He explained while enveloping both arms and legs with a purple haze on them. "Now then, start attacking me. Practice starts now." He waited for a bit and let her enter into a stance that suit her. "I won't just use my legs, I'll also use my fists. Now you can't complain that I didn't warn you!"

And with that, he attacked first with his leg. She parried it with her own and shifted her weight to her other leg, trying to hit his side.

His arm rose quickly like a piston and blocked the attack, before grabbing her and throwing her to the side.

"Get up." He ordered her as she looked at him with the determination to fight in hand. "Good, remember that feeling. We're going to spar until night comes. No complains from you." He didn't even gave her time to answer as he went straight for the punch.

Quickly, she put her knee up and stopped the attack, but the recoil made her skid backwards a good chunk. She then returned the attack and he blocked her the same, only this time a very small tremor was the result on him.

"Tch. Dynamo, take a small chunk from that part and bring me a small needle." He ordered his machines and promptly, they retrieved his needle and started to carefully take a bit of Carna's flesh into a small container. "This'll hurt a little bit, brother. But don't worry, I'll find a way to reverse it!"

As he took a blood sample from him he then looked at him. "If you want, you can help me to find a cure. We'll do it together, just like old time."

"I'll take the bag," Ren said. He walked quietly, enjoying the natural ambiance as they made their way back to town. Thankfully, the bag wasn't too heavy.

"Xavier, do you mind if we room together? My other self wants to talk to Perkisas about something," he heard Rain say.

Ren did his best to stifle a giggle, but he thought him covering his mouth gave him away. Yeah right... Perkisas...

A scorpion jumped at his feet, lunging out of the bushes like an assassin. Feeling lightning surge through his body again, Ren kicked the scorpion away as it tried to sting him, and it landed on its back. He drew out a small pistol and ended it with one shot. He put the smoking gun back in its holster, glorying in the quiet once more.

"Hm? I wonder what the little rain drop wants with me..."

Xavier wasn't sure how to feel about Rain wanting to talk to the beast, though he nodded his head in agreement. "Uh...sure. It couldn't hurt...I think," he answered, feeling better with his shoulder. Though truthfully, he wasn't sure how they can communicate. Perkisas made no sort of attempt to appear before him, probably because of his size. Or maybe the lack of el energy to do so. The second option seems to be more reasonable. "Let's get a room then, oh uh..." Xavier looked down at Komodo who gave a confused look. "I hope you don't mind if he comes along. I'm pretty sure he'll fall asleep the time he lays down." He cast a glance at Steele in which he swore he heard the elf's chuckle. After watching him killing off a scorpion, he gently tugged Rain's arm close to him, whispering in her ear, "Stay quiet about that..."

Xavier felt Perkisas' irritation but the beast didn't bother to complain or scoff.

Steele took the bag before Airi could even touch it. Hmph. Airi pouted and heard a very... Interesting conversation. Turning around, she saw Rain and Xavier discuss about staying in the same room together.

Airi's eyes widened. They're going to do IT at such a young age?! Interesting... She started snickering.

"Who am I rooming with then..." Asked Airi.

Arya watched the others quietly, slightly jealous of their camaraderie, but kept silent about it. Once the topic of rooms came up, Arya finally spoke up. "I'll room with you?" She said when Airi asked who she would be rooming with. "I'm quiet as a mouse most of the time, so you won't even know I'm there," she said with a shrug, tossing aside the spear she'd picked up.

Ren's ears twitched hearing those words.

"Stay quiet about that..." Xavier whispered. As if Ren had long ears for nothing. He smirked to himself, trying to pretend that he didn't hear anything. But for the life of him, he couldn't get that stupid grin off his face!

"Who am I rooming with then..." Asked Airi.

"I guess that depends on how many rooms we can afford," replied Ren. Turning to Rain, he said, "Hey Rain? How many rooms can we afford?"

She nods at Xavier's demand. Steele's chuckling in the background did alert her, but there was nothing she could do. Rain turns to the elf when he asked her how many rooms they can afford.

"We recently got a ton of ED from that Inspector battle, but I want to save as much as we can. Maybe two rooms, unless you want one by yourself?"

"Rain, Arya, you're back! Did you find anything?"

"Yes, please tell me, Buch."

Stella and Cha Cha Buch comes running over to them with a haste that she remembers all too well.

"Cha Cha Buch, I found something that might trouble you."

Pulling the dark bead out of her bag, Rain carefully stretches her arm out to let the lizardmen see. He seemed mildly disturbed by its presence, grimacing the longer he kept eye contact with it.

"This...hypnosis stone, Buch!"

"Yes, a hypnosis stone. The work of a shadow shaman, it seems. There's one on the outskirts, I think his name is Kayak."

"Amazing, you scouted out that far in that short amount of time?"

"Yes." A clean, almost indistinguishable lie.

"I heard he became one after he was banished, Buch."

"I request that we head out during the night, when they're most likely to appear."

"Very well..."

She can tell that Stella was staring at her in an odd way. Rain pays her no mind, lightly curtsying to them both and turning around to her group.

Only two rooms... Assuming Rain and Xavier wanted privacy (she assumed they did), then three people would have to share one room. How troublesome...

"Hmm... I can pay for my own room... Don't have too much fun, okay..." She said passively.

Just like old times, huh?He thought. His corruption would probably never be completely reversed. It had been ingrained into his soul and damage to the soul can't be reversed. But to some point, corruption can be managed.

"Sure thing," he responded. The pain didn't bother him and it was a bit disturbing that Carna's face remained normal despite the procedures. Since he knew more about his own corruption, he would, of course, know how to help.

Xavier simply stayed quiet about room sharing, idly playing with Komodo with his foot. Pushing the dragon back and letting him jump back to wrestle for a moment before being pushed back. He can hear Perkisas mumbling to himself, unable to make out his words.

Suddenly he thought back about the purple haired guy, Richian. He wasn't sure what exactly the guy wanted to talk about but it was probably best for Xavier to search after him once the lizardmen problem was dealt with. Since it was unrelated with the lizardmen tribe after all.

When Stella and Cha Cha Buch came running to hear the news, Arya kept quiet. She didn't want to alert them to what had happened but didn't really know what to say to give her report either. However, Rain gave her report anyway, alerting Cha Cha Buch to the dark beads that he called hypnosis stones. She frowned. What had started off as a simple mission of regicide became something else entirely. Hypnosis, dark shamans. Arya had no knowledge of any of this before, but now that a whole dastardly plot was revealed to her, she didn't know what to think or feel anymore. And Rain's lie about how far they scouted today...

She stared at the girl, wondering how she could so casually lie, and how she knew who was behind this when not even she knew what was even going on. There was something Rain wasn't telling them, she surmised but said nothing about it just yet. Instead, she alerted everyone to her presence by saying, "I'm going to go check on my weapon. I'll meet you guys at the inn." Arya spoke, waving to the others and making her way to the smithy.

"Hey, Toma!" Arya called out, poking her head through the door. She noticed the boy with someone else and covered her mouth, blushing slightly in embarrassment. "O-oh! I'm sorry! I didn't know you were in the middle of a conversation..."

"A-are you sure Steele? Then sure, I'll share a room with you..." Replied Airi. She hoped she wasn't blushing.

Toma turned around, visibly surprised as the voice of another woman resonated in the room. Lara was done discussing urgent matters with him and, although he seemed a little uncomfortable, the soul priestess got up and answered:

"Oh, a client! Don't mind me, I was just about to leave. Have a great day, Toma! I'll be around." Lara opened the door and saw a blonde woman behind it. She was clearly not from around here and Bethma wasn't known to be a town for adventurers, it was peaceful, until that lizardmen issue Stella briefly mentioned. Maybe she was one of those adventurers. Without a word, Lara politely smiled at her and continued her way.

According to the town's sheriff, a girl with synths and a male forest elf had been around her, she had only that clue to Steele's and Airi's whereabouts. The first place to look was the pub inside the inn. She entered and sat in a small table near the entrance after ordering a drink. Lara had enough time to wait and repay her debts.

"Y-yeah. I don't mind," Ren said with a smile. It was still so strange to him, how he could let anyone, especially a little girl like her, get so close to him? Perhaps it was the deep loneliness in his heart, the loneliness that came from exile and constant wandering. Ren had tried his best to sweep it under the rug by going on many missions, going across Elrios and back. As he pondered this, he felt his face drooping in sadness, facing all of those emotions he's tried so hard to bottle. But who knows? Perhaps this would be the beginning of something special.

He didn't notice himself wandering towards the inn. He was snapped out of his daze by a familiar woman sitting near the entrance with a drink on her hand.

"Lara... Long time no see," Ren said politely. He did his best to conceal the anger that was burning in his chest. She did run off with his pay. He stood before her on high alert, unsure of what might happen then.

Rain

Rain gives a gentle gaze at Arya as she runs off to the blacksmith. Steele and Airi were staring at each other for a bit before the elf heads over to the inn. She goes up to Xavier and tells him of their plans to wait until night to investigate the lake.

"Oh, Steele went off with the bag...let me go get it from him and snatch us some rooms. I can spend the rest of the day fixing your clothes if you want. I want to fix mine too."

Walking into the inn, Rain sees Steele looking at an unfamiliar woman.

"Steele, can I have the bag...? Umm...do you guys know each other?"

"Hello Steele. Hello, young lady. Yes, we are simply employer and employee." She said as she took out a sturdy and heavy bag filled with 5 million ED. "Here's your pay. Now, can you tell me where Airi is?"

Arya watched the unfamiliar woman walk by her without so much as a word, waiting until she was well out of earshot to speak up. "Her aura's rather oppressive..." Arya replied, mumbling to herself. However, she smiled sheepishly at Toma while unsheathing the borrowed katana and showing him the damages. She hoped Toma wasn't too upset by it, and he surprisingly wasn't. Was he...smiling? "Um...?"

"It's okay. I kind of expected this to happen. I wanted to try out a new forging technique, and it felt like the blade itself was too weak. That's why I gave it to you. To test my theory. And I guess I was right! This is pretty valuable data, Arya! Thank you!" Toma cried, hugging the confused blonde as she stood there. Toma laughed, dragging her into a nearby seat and pushed her into it. It was about time he had a break anyway, he supposed. He fetched them some water and bread, the only snack he had bothered to grab from home. "So, I take it you're here for your weapon?"

"Yes, actually. I may need it for tomorrow's business. If you need any help-"

Arya was shushed by a shake of the head, and Toma smiled. "You've done enough just telling me how the weapon works. I've got it from here. I'll have it done by morning." Toma promised. Arya finished her water and bread silently, still very much confused about the whole situation. Instead, she made her way to the Inn (with directions, of course), and stopped when she saw Steele staring at the woman from before.

"Oh...It's you again." Arya smiled softly at the woman.

Steele took his money quietly, but his gaze was still menacing. Lara glanced at the blonde woman and smirked: this would be her way out. She turned towards the mercenary and told him in the elven language that she would pay him the rest by tomorrow. Then, she finished her cup and spoke loudly at the blonde woman who had recognized her:

"Looks like I'm getting popular in this town! Hello again, ma'am. How do you like it here out in the desert?"

"It's hot, the local wildlife doesn't seem to like me very much, and I got to meet some interesting people. All in all, it's a love-hate kinda feeling." Arya laughed softly. "And please don't call me ma'am. I'm not even in my 20's and you're making me feel old." Arya teased lightly with a chuckle. "I'm Arya, by the way. And you are?"

Lara smiled. " I understand that very well, Arya. Almost all places I've been to give the same feeling. I'm Lara. Pleased to meet you."

"Do you have time? I'd like to hear any stories you have to tell. Unless you're busy, that is. I don't wanna keep you from your business. "Arya asked, hoping Lara would stay and talk. But it was equally as okay if she couldn't. Being stopped by a random person wasn't always the best thing in the world. Especially if they were some novice adventurer who didn't know where north was even if they were handed a map and compass. Arya gave her best impression of puppy dog eyes as she inched towards Lara, lip stuck out in a pleading pout. She was old enough to realize how childish and foolish she was being, but she didn't care. Any chance to hear stories from other adventurers, she would take it. She'd even drag Steele down with her if she had to. Perhaps a round of drinks would butter them up? "You too, Steele! I'll even buy drinks?" She all but pleaded.

Lara mentally cursed the amount of coincidences that had foiled her plan of leaving Steele and the blue-haired girl out of her sight, but her smile didn't fade away, nor did the warmness in her voice:

"Sure thing, Arya! Besides, nothing is better than a round of drinks to keep some company to a long story." she said as she contoured her cup's rim with her index. She glanced at the mercenary, he looked puzzled. Good, he was caught off-guard and wouldn't try to make a scene, that was at least better than the hatred that decorated his face only minutes before.

"Perfect! I'll go order us a few drinks, then!" Arya grinned happily, rushing to the bar to place her orders. She paid enough for the whole night, in case the story telling lasted long enough and hurried back to where Lara was. Arya took her seat, kicking her feet excitedly while she waited. This would be exciting! "Sit down, Steele! Have a round or two. It's on me."
