R.I.P
The last seal was broken, leaving Lara in a state closer to death. The energy required for that ritual was exceeding her limits, some of her blood vessels were simply popping, leaving splashes of blood around her. More, she needed more power. A stabbing pain in her back knocked her out and a chilling scream faded away in her lips.
***************************
"Lara. Once again, you're going stray from the path that will bring everything to balance. You'll end by destroying your body once again."
"You think so? As far as I know, I've been doing fairly well by going against your so-called balance."
The first priestess' scorn for the one that had trapped her soul against her will finally sounded by the menacing tone she answered with:
"Lara Tureen. Power will not bring you anything but suffering if you don't use it for the right cause. Bringing an ancient force back won't prove anything. Your limits will still be the same. I thought you were different once you refused Henir's promise of revenge, but what you are doing is no better! I will not let my power be misused like this!"
*************************
Her vision was blurry, her tattoo was glowing with magic as the rocks around her turned black and some lizardmen turned into piles of a greyish dust.
"Get Back!" hollered Kayak to the remaining soldiers that watched in horror as the elf was bleeding and a powerful dome of energy pushed them back. The ritual to bring the ancient dragon was more dangerous that what they had even imagined. Most of them were glad to have her as an ally and some hoped she would fight by their side.

"You won't lend me your power?" Lara repeated her question as her laughter tinkled and echoed in the void's silence. Lara got closer to the priestess and grabbed her singlehandedly by the neck, suppressing air away from entering her ethereal body. "Glewin; I am way stronger than you now. Thanks to you." The first priestess kicked her as she struggled silently for air. Tears began to appear on her turquoise eyes before she desperately began to cast a freezing spell around her attacker's hands. With her tattooed hand, Lara broke the runes and absorbed their mana while Glewin stopped choking on the lack of air and widened her eyes. She felt weak, she didn't want to struggle anymore; she had finally failed Ishmael. Once she closed her eyes in defeat, Lara let her go. Humiliated, the first priestess coughed, breathed in to keep and glared at her attacker.
"Ellia, you said, is the benevolent goddess that will restore balance and erase all evil for existence." Lara crouched to face her old mentor. "Yet, you know also that this world is made of cycles. Cycles you've only been able to see because your existence was trapped inside the El. Now tell me, if Ellia was trying to win this one, why is she letting Henir's disciples do whatever they please? Where are those so-called guardians of the El or Ishmael's servants?"
Glewin knew that this world was a battle between the two original gods, but the thought that they simply shared this world as a toy was beyond her beliefs, rather, she didn't want to think of it that way. She had given up her right to eternal rest for seeing a crumbling world be reborn amidst the light. It did for that time, but darkness inevitably came to swallow it five generations later.
"According to you, Ellia and his brother are all-powerful beings that created this world and carved their own playground in it. But playing with half of a marvellous creation is no fun for either, right? I don't care for those gods, which is why I refused Henir and Ellia's path. What have they done for me? Nothing. If anything, I had more reasons to join Henir. Ishmael and Ellia abandoned my soul to your hands, then the demons'."
"Even so. There's always a righteous path, and it lies in Ishmael's and Ellia's side. They will give justice to those who follow them." Lara frowned and kicked the priestess before pinning her to the ground. "THEN WHERE WAS THAT JUSTICE WHEN THE DEMONS CAME DESTROYING EVERY TOWN IN THEIR PATH?!" Lara began to punch her as her voice grew louder and hoarser. "WHERE WERE THEY WHEN THEIR PRECIOUS SERVANT AND A LOST SOUL GOT INTO THEIR ENEMIES HANDS WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING? HUH?!" Her last punch hit the ground, forming a crater on it. Lara panted and absorbed Glewin's conscience until the flame of her essence was left, which she devoured until the shadow of another woman with hair as black as the night of the void and eyes as red as rubies appeared behind her.
"You're very powerful, child. I didn't think it was even possible to wake me from eternal slumber."
"You must be the ancient dragon. It's an honour."
"I must thank you for this, elf descendant. With your power, I'll be able to regain my body and protect the true habitants of the desert."
Lara smirked. This was the true power of a priestess, gathering souls. As long as she could absorb the essence of powerful beings, she would be able to end her goal once and for all without ever be concerned by anything else.
*************************
The powerful aura around her was fading away and the scattered dragon bones began to fit together, flesh slowly forming out out of the black rocks that the field that the dark elf had formed around her. She opened her eyes and the energy dispersed into a wave of strong winds that pushed all the lizardmen to the ground.
Lara felt weak, but somehow she had avoided death even if she had pushed her limits. Every inch of her body hurt, but she still had the mana beads Dust had offered to her. She emptied three of them before being able to stand. She weakly turned around to se Kayak laugh and applaud her work as a skeletal dragon rose behind her.
"Wonderful, Elf! I was right on bringing you here!"
Lara coughed a handful of blood and two lizardmen came to her help before she collapsed. She thanked them as she touched their head and turned them into piles of dust. Kayak didn't pay attention to her act, he was hypnotized with the presence of the ancient dragon.
"Hey, Kayak! I did my part of the deal, time to finish yours." The dark shaman ignored her, angering her even more. She leapt towards him and began to slowly sap his life from him. "Don't be an imbecile and choose the wrong enemy now, Kayak. You made a deal, keep up with it."
"F-fine. Elf." He said after being let free from the priestess' deathly grasp. Unlike what he had expected, none of his soldiers moved when he had been attacked. That elf woman had probably made a breach in his mind control and froze their thoughts in place. He complied with her request, sensing that not only the female elf had revived the dragon, but had unlocked an even stronger power. In fact, Lara had cursed his soul to be hers once he was defeated. With some luck, she wouldn't have to wait more than a week. Once with half of her arm adorned with black tribal tattoos, Lara walked out of the cave before being stopped by Kayak.
"Leave the desert, soul reaper. I won't tolerate your presence in my land anymore. You're a menace."
Lara chuckled at the shaman's statement before answering: "Of course I am a menace, Kayak. If I wasn't you would never have given this new power. Also, call me the Soul priestess. That's what I am."
Kayak scoffed before turning his back towards the cave entrance, leaving Lara alone once more. She shrugged and continued her way towards Richie mines after establishing once again her link with Dust. Night had already rose and covered with its cold mantle the desert.
"Mind the interruption. I had to deal with a situation here, I'm heading to the mines now. Did you land there?"
