“UGH… Sticky, icky cheese. The smell… Disgusting. Eating a pile of stinky bacteria, and happily at that. Blech! I just don’t get it…”
Quinn muttered under her breath as she set up her booth to sell batches of half a dozen cheese croissants, much later than other vendors.
“I hope pulling this all nighter baking with a clothespin on my friggin’ nose was worth the trou—”

CRASH

Quinn’s sentence was left hanging while she observed the accident unfold before her eyes, galvanizing her in place. She had been so caught up in her tirade about people’s incomprehensible cheesy obsession that she didn’t even register the panic increasing among the villagers as the dark trail of smoke cut through the otherwise calm skies. She instinctively ran towards the wreck, but when she recognized the ship’s emblem before it disappeared consumed by flames, she stopped dead in her tracks. The Empire…? Oh crap.

Fear took a hold of her, one of her memories briefly flashed before her eyes. Soldiers coming after her, shining swords brandished high, reflecting the torches’ bright flames. The screams, fire, darkness, pain… and then, blood. So much blood. On the ground, on her clothes, on her lips…

Snapping back into reality, Quinn got closer to the crash site, but not too close; maybe there was nothing to worry about, yet she preferred to keep her distance juuust in case, assisting folks on the shoreline to the best of her abilities. All the while, her eyes darted around, praying that no soldiers would suddenly leap out of the forest to pin her down and take her away to the capital.

The Blacksmith
Alexander Rainier
Any time we can save lives, we should do it.
First aid kit, check. Leather gear, check. Hammer, check. The forge’s fire has been put out. Alright, no time to waste.

Alex bolted out of the shop as fast as he could towards the ship. With the weight of his gear came the weight of guilt, as the young man regretted not leaving sooner for the festival. He was simply hoping to enjoy a cup of tea on his balcony upstairs before getting a move on... and it just so happened that said balcony faced the side of the forest where the ship could be seen rapidly plummeting. At least, being at home meant he could don his blacksmithing gear, which could be put to good use; Alex had never been intimidated by flames, although he very much knew the material was not entirely fireproof.

He was already sweating profusely by the time he made it to the crash site. Not too far away, a familiar face: Miyuki. Alex ran to them and spoke between bouts of panting, struggling to catch his breath despite his tedious daily workouts. He hadn’t really paid attention to pacing, caught up in the adrenaline, and it showed, much to his very internalized embarrassment.
“Yuki…! What the… hell is going on…?!”

His stomach sank when his eyes landed on all the clear indicators of a Sechs airship… in the lake. Tch, so much for fireproofing. Seeing a few villagers plunge into the water, including the town’s mermaid, made Alex feel quite powerless. He was a decent swimmer, sure, but the sensation of soggy clothes on his person made him want to crawl out of his skin. He thought it awful to feel that way, there were lives at stake – but what good would he be if he started to have a panic attack underwater, in the middle of all those germs and bits of the ship… or, - God forbid - of people?

“I see Doctor Margaux over there… looks like he could use a few or a dozen extra pairs of hands. Are you, um, both coming?”
he asked Miyuki, looking at the fox in his friend’s arms.

Monster Vet
Matthias Hertz
I realized while writing this post that I forgot to tag lucem in the previous post. ; - ; sorry it wasn’t on purpose!
Though the Monster Vet did tilt his head a little in confusion at the story, he nodded agreeably with a friendly smile. He wondered how the group of strangers managed to fall so far away from the flight (or crash?) path but figured it would be insensitive to pry right at the moment.

"I understand your concerns completely. Treating monsters is complex but treating humans has its own…complexity, I guess we can call it,"
he said with a sheepish smile that seemed to almost have a traumatized edge to it that quickly faded. As he led the group out of the woods with Wendy trailing obediently yet vigilantly behind them, he added,
"We do have an excellent town doctor. His name is Julian but I’m sure he is already at where your airship ended up crashing…"

He gave the group a quick look over without hovering too close with a contemplating look. None of them seemed too heavily injured that they would need immediate attention.
"Unless any of you have any urgent concerns, I can take you to our hospital first to set everyone up there to be treated while waiting for Julian to come back. Hopefully, no one got too badly hurt in the crash…"

Calliope wasn’t sure if the suggestion from Mister Miyake was intended to give her a distraction, but the werefox was grateful for it regardless. Her ears still gave an unintentional flinch whenever the other human made any sudden movements. However, the werefox started to calm down as she grabbed anything that seemed like it would be useful for the nurse as she trailed along with them up to the deck.

Along the way, though the lingering smoke still made her sneeze once or twice, it wasn’t as suffocating as she expected it to be. Still, the werefox was grateful when they finally made it to comparatively more fresh air on the deck of the airship. The edge of panic that was still lingering and prickling along her fur finally started to die down enough for her to follow the man with the axe without any more instinctive outbursts on her end.

Though she visibly hesitated as they neared two more strangers, especially the fleeting yet odd feeling that she got from one of them, she still followed the man with the axe onto the lifeboat. As she settled down gingerly in the lifeboat, she frowned when the smell of singed flesh still seemed to follow them despite being further away from the burning side of the airship. As she glanced briefly around, her eyes landed on the blackened skin of the human’s arms.

“You…” she started before trailing off in embarrassment, realizing that she doesn’t know his name. Still, she couldn’t let someone injured row the boat. No matter that she didn’t really tell if she could trust him fully. “Your injuries are more severe than mine. I’ll row us to shore. Give me the oars.”

“...Please.” She added as she belatedly realized she sounded a bit rude. But she still stubbornly gripped one of the oars, conveniently forgetting that she did get a head injury.

Miyuki’s eyes locked onto the wreckage, and for a moment, everything else faded. The sight of the Sechs insignia dredged up memories they had long since tried to bury—rigid military lines, the cold efficiency of orders, the empty victories. They held Poncho in their arms a little tighter, almost as if trying to ground themselves in the present.

"Yuki…! What the… hell is going on…?!"

Miyuki turned at the sound of Alex’s voice, their usual playful demeanor having been stripped away by the raw shock of seeing a Sechs airship in such a disastrous state. But as Alex caught his breath, Miyuki forced themselves to recover, exhaling slowly. A touch of their signature flair crept back into their tone.

"The Sechs Empire," Miyuki muttered with an almost bitter edge, their lips curling slightly. "I suppose they still have a knack for causing trouble, even here."

But despite the attempt to sound nonchalant, Miyuki’s heart raced. This was too close to their past—too close to the life they had tried to leave behind. The flashes of metal, the acrid smoke—it all tugged at buried anxieties, making it hard to stay composed.

Poncho whimpered, and Miyuki let out a soft chuckle, stroking its fur in a gesture that almost seemed out of place amidst the chaos. “Don’t worry, baby,” they whispered. "We’ll be just fine."

Alex's voice broke through again, snapping Miyuki back to the present. Margaux. The villagers. Help. Right. Their instinct to perform kicked in, but there was no audience here to charm, no patrons to cater to. Just chaos. Still, they adjusted their posture, straightening up and forcing a more composed expression. After all, if there was one thing Miyuki was good at, it was playing the part that was needed.

"I’ll help," they said, though their voice faltered briefly. Glancing at the soaking villagers, their eyes narrowed. "Not much good standing around, right? But first…" They gave a pointed look at the fox in their arms. "I need to make sure this little guy doesn’t get trampled in the commotion."

Miyuki slowly placed Poncho onto the ground, and gave it a stern look. "Go find Emma, alright? Stay with her." Perhaps sensing the gravity of the situation, the fox was quick to follow their words.

They watched it scurry off into the distance for a bit before turning to face Alex once more. "Alright, let's go."

Vignette

PINK BLOOD
Hikaru Utada
Vignette pursed her lips before smoothing them out again — there was really no need; she was certain nobody was staring at her face — as the bristling pink-furred chef made a point that she hadn’t thought about until she reached the doctor. She had the supplies to fashion an impromptu gurney, but she had no knowledge of how to put them together properly. Knowing what a gurney looked like was different from knowing what was important in its construction, and she was certain that in her rush she would make some elementary mistake.

Even so, she heaved a sigh of relief after the doctor commended her efforts.
“I’m not sure if I should be pleased or concerned about the rest then.”

Grabbing the edge of the frame, she gingerly lifted it over to the spot Julian patted, careful not to tip it over onto the man himself. She hesitated, receiving no further instructions from the only one who knew what they were doing but decided that poles sticking straight up weren’t of use to anyone grabbing it. She certainly hadn’t seen any gurneys in the hospital with such columns. Bending over and stepping onto the rectangular roof frame, she carefully bent them downwards with her own weight into a malformed handle instead of a post. It helped that the flimsy structure wasn’t anything meant to be long-lasting, only something makeshift for the festival.

In between her possibly unneeded labour, she detected a whiff of familiar tobacco smoke. She thought she might’ve heard her name being called in her awkward dash to the convening point, but it had been so distant and faint she wasn’t sure if it was Nathalia. But now glancing up at the local dragon priest muttering nonsense towards the sky and townspeople gazing devoutly at her lazy form, she seemed to be doing just fine without her.

Similar to the hubbub around the priest, others, too, had joined Cana around the sinking metal contraption. It was a good sign that the crowd aboard the ship had found lifeboats from somewhere that Cliff was rowing — or not, Yongye was. Wait a moment. Yongye? She turned her head towards the pink fox beside her, then turned her head towards the pink fox-like blob in the boat.
“... You wouldn’t happen to know the one trying to row the boat, would you?”

Louis Spiegel
Louis busied himself by setting up the lifeboats, his dextrous hands making do when his knowledge of Sech technology failed him. The lack of people emerging from the inside of the ship worried Louis, and part of him wondered if he was setting up the liferafts in vain. There was a rumble from inside the airship, and the deck noticeably tilted slightly, causing Louis to work faster. If the airship sank beneath the waves, Louis doubted that the had the energy left to perform the same magical phenomena that he had used to get on the ship. The sound of someone shouting to him caused Louis to jerk his head toward the water, just in time to see Esvedra gracefully weaving through the water. He waved towards her, "
Ahoy, Es! It doesn't seem like there are gonna be a lot of peeps! Can you help with pushing the boats when we get to it?
"

As he spoke, Cliff burst through the flaming wreckage with a soldier in his arms and two wereanimals in tow, and Louis looked rather aghastly at the burns on his body. "
Cliff, by the gods, you're practically burned. You do know you're already so hot that more fire won't be adding more to your handsome good looks, right? So please, be more careful next time, and probably let the werefox row this time around.
"

When everyone had gotten into the lifeboat, Louis hit the release mechanism so that it began to descend onto the waters. Louis deftly leaped onto the boat after the others, landing lightly next to the weregoat who was evacuated from the ship, causing the liferaft to sway back and forth from the impact.

"
You all are safe now. The name's Louis by the way, and welcome to Piyo Town,
" Louis said to the werefox and the weregoat. He gave the wereanimal a reassuring pat on the shoulder, which felt awkward considering how much taller the other man was in comparison, "
Hey, since you literally fell out of the sky, I could be forgiven if I fell for you at first sight, right?
"

Flirting in the middle of danger was improper, and it was likely inconsiderate of the potential panic that the Imperial wereanimal felt. However, Louis tended to slip into flirtations as a natural reaction, especially during stressful situations where in the past his glib charisma allowed him to blend right in.

Piyo town
Season: Mid Spring (Day 22)
Weather: early morning, Its a touch chilly, with a bit of smog hasting over.
Tags: @.Player

After the whirlwind of chaos at the cheese wheel festival, and the crashing of the airship. Piyo town finally found a moment of tranquility, though it was a delicate peace. The air was still charged with an undercurrent of tension, and a gentle silence enveloped the streets as residents grappled with the consequences of the previous day's events. Many were still processing the events, their hearts weighed down by the memories of the festivities that had taken a sudden turn.

Those who bore visible injuries or were unfamiliar to those in the community were directed to the local hospital immediately, where the town's doctor, along with the dentist, and those with medical expertise, offered their care and support in ensuring they were okay. The atmosphere was filled with a mix of concern and compassion as they tended to the needs of the injured. With a few even experiencing an unexpected descent from the sky. A few of the patients that were conscious started showing some strange disorientation, as if very large portions of their memories had slipped away, leaving them in a state of confusion.

As the townsfolk began to recover, those who received a clean bill of health sought solace in the welcoming embrace of the local inn, a refuge from the turmoil that had unfolded. The inn buzzed with quiet conversations and shared stories, as people tried to make sense of the bizarre happenings. The sense of community was palpable, with neighbors supporting one another and recounting their experiences, each tale more astonishing than the last. The warmth of camaraderie provided a much-needed balm for the collective anxiety that lingered in the air. Meanwhile, the fate of the elusive cheese wheel remained a mystery, having seemingly disappeared without a trace.

The new day approached, the sun began to rise, casting a warm, tinted glow across the horizon. The large, fiery orb slowly ascended into the sky, leaving behind a delicate blush of pink. This scene would have been breathtaking from any vantage point, were it not for the persistent layer of smog that gradually blanketed the town. An unfortunate common occurrence, from the town's distant neighbor, the imperial factory loomed ominously on the outskirts of the valley, its chimneys releasing more smoke than usual, a stark reminder of the Sechs Empire's presence that overshadowed the natural beauty of the valley that sat right on the border of two rival countries. It could have been a peaceful morning in Piyo Town, but with the lingering dread of what happened yesterday might of lead to a few more towns people being more on edge then normal.

While the air was thick with the remnants of industry, it wasn't the only occurrence this morning as the usual tranquility was disrupted by an abnormal sound. A faint gurgling noise emerged from the direction of the woods, accompanied by the unsettling clatter of metal scraping against stone, mixed with the heavy thuds of something fairly large moving through the underbrush. Trees creaked and groaned as they were disturbed, and large footprints were spread around the outskirts of the town. The foot prints were much larger than anyone in town could have created clearly showing signs of being monster oriented. However with in the markings, sat smaller pawprints seemingly resembling those of a fox. Along with a few strands of fur.

As the owner of a kitchen—humble as the current state of his business was—Yongye was no stranger to waking up at the crack of dawn. However, it was one thing to leave the cozy embrace of his comforter willingly and another thing entirely to be forced to brave the chill of the early morning air after being rudely awoken by an array of alarming noises. In the first place, his sleep had been rather fitful, leaving his tail and ears to droop pitifully as he dragged his fatigued body down the stairs and out the door of the Night Owl.

After a day as chaotic as yesterday, the pink-haired fox would have expected to pass out and only wake the moment his alarm noisily alerted him that it was time to start the day. To his misfortune, he was, if nothing else, a worrier who couldn’t help but concern himself about the wellbeing of the injured, the identities of the dead, as well as a potential conflict being drummed up in their peaceful backwater town by The Empire. Most importantly…

When Vignette had initially asked whether or not he knew the person rowing the boat, Yongye had fixed an odd but playful look on her before turning his gaze to investigate what had brought that question about.

“I know I’m forgetful, but it’s a bit much to think I’d forget Cli-”
Before the fox could finish saying the farmer’s name, his eyes shook in surprise, and he could only trail off with,
“Oh, that’s not…”

If Yongye hadn’t recovered his lost memories and returned to his childhood home all those years ago, he would’ve questioned whether or not the individual rowing the boat was a long-lost sibling of his. Wereanimals weren't rare, and foxes certainly weren't the most uncommon among their species, but he'd never quite seen another outside of his family with the exact same shade of fur as his. At least, not until now.

As the boat slowly rowed closer to shore, the resemblance only grew more uncanny.

Even in the present, Yongye hadn't gotten the opportunity to speak with the curious stranger, as it certainly hadn't been an appropriate time or occasion to poke and prod at the injured woman. Oh well. At least she was a stranger who looked eerily similar and not a doppelganger. Then he really would have had questions.

The usual smog tightly coiling around the streets of the town drew out a sneeze from the fox’s sensitive nose, and he shuddered when the scent of industrial smoke continued to pollute the otherwise crisp morning air. With his sense of smell somewhat compromised, his rather paltry skills in combat, and the events from the day prior, he briefly questioned whether or not he should request someone more capable to accompany him on his investigation of the odd noises that came from the opposite end of town.

What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing much, but Yongye did quickly change his mind about heading off alone when he spotted the monster tracks. There were also a few strands of orange fur caught on a few twigs, likely from a far smaller animal. Perhaps a chipsqueek or a fox? What was more concerning was that a monster large enough to push past trees in its path rather than going around them had ventured so close to town.

With the situation confirmed, the wereanimal ventured back down towards Cliff’s farmhouse, hoping that the man would have more insight on the matter. Fortunately, he’d taken a few snacks he’d made the night prior with him and offered them to share with the farmer’s family as a small peace offering for disturbing him so early in the day. Once the information about the monster and strange noises was relayed, Yongye headed back off towards the forest, this time spotting a familiar figure amidst the scattered tracks.

Suddenly, his thoughts went back to the orange tufts of fur he’d spotted earlier that day.

“You’re the owner of that little fox, right?”
Yongye asked while sweeping his gaze past the monster tracks and deeper into the forest.

Miyuki's day had begun long before the sun broke over the horizon. As usual, the first part of their morning involved carefully applying makeup in front of the vanity—their reflection framed by flickering candlelight.

There was a sense of normalcy in the ritual, even after yesterday's chaos. The airship crash had disrupted the town, and while the guests at the inn were still recuperating, Miyuki found solace in getting the inn ready for the day, making sure every detail was perfect.

Well, they did, until a familiar face—or rather, the absence of that familiar face—stirred immediate alarm.

"Poncho?" Miyuki called, eyes scanning every nook and cranny of the inn.

The fox was usually glued to their side, especially during the early hours when they made the rounds for breakfast, but there was no sign of the mischievous little furball today. Not under the tables, not curled up in a guest's lap, not splayed over the window sills.

Nothing.

Panic crept in as they rushed outside, pulling on their coat and grabbing their spear on the way out. The streets were quiet, heavy with the eerie silence left in the aftermath of the crash. They'd hoped that they wouldn't have to use it, but on the off chance that they did...

Miyuki’s search had led them deeper into the forest, following faint traces of small paw prints in the dirt. But the further they went, the more unsettling the scenery became. Larger, monstrous tracks began to appear alongside Poncho’s trail, as well as the occasional tuft of orange fur snagged on a branch. Poncho was resourceful, but these tracks were too large to ignore.

Just as Miyuki was contemplating heading back or calling for help, a familiar voice cut through the morning air.

"You’re the owner of that little fox, right?"

Miyuki turned swiftly, relieved to see Yongye approaching. Their usual flamboyant flair dimmed slightly in the face of worry, though they still straightened their posture and gave a tired smile.

"Yongye," Miyuki began, folding their arms over their chest, their gaze lingering on the tracks behind them. "Seems my little troublemaker’s gone and found himself a rather dangerous playmate."

They gestured towards the larger footprints in the dirt. "I was hoping he’d just slipped off to chase birds, but this…" Miyuki sighed, tugging their scarf a little tighter. "I don’t suppose you’ve seen anything else, have you? I'd rather not go charging in without knowing what’s out here. Poncho can be fast, but…"

Miyuki’s voice trailed off, the weight of yesterday's events still hanging in the air. They glanced back towards the path deeper into the forest, their brow furrowed. "And with what happened yesterday, well… let’s just say I’m not keen on finding any more surprises."

Their eyes softened as they looked at Yongye, the worry that usually lurked behind their charismatic facade seeping through. "Any chance you'd be up for helping me track him down?"

Behind the bathouse and at the river, Esvedra sat on a small cliff overhead the shore. The bobber on her fishing line danced from the light wind blowing. Esvedra was kicking her feet back and forth slightly, making sure to not move too fast and spook the fish.

Yesterday was an insane mix of events for Esvedra. She admired the desire of humans to dominate the sky and the sea in addition to their land. But she couldn't help but think about how much damage had been caused due to the fallen airship.

Esvedra wasn't happy about the pollution and parts in the water, but they would have to be taken care of later. What was more important was attending to all the victims of the crash. Which meant more heart fish meals and more icy baths.

The line on her fishing pole twitched and she easily pulled out a medium-sized bass. Tossing it in the now full bucket, Esvedra started carrying her catchings back to the main path between the boutique and bathouse. She turned her head around to try to see who else was wandering the town.
