Fantasy [OPEN] The Price of a Life

Thomas Terrance Tilderson

Thomas simply spread his lips into a smile, watched the "kids" go, eyes a bit too focused on them. He waited for a few moments, talking to himself before following them. "That was rude... they didn't even talk to me. Notty children must be punished..." He chuckled again, and pulled his 2 foot machete from the sheath in his coat in a flash, gently caressing the blade. He shoved it into the sheath, and looked to the sky. "My my, it does seem like it will only get worse, I had better find some shelter. Those kids are sure to lead me somewhere dry..."

Now walking a little faster, he reached to the door into which the group had quietly dissapeared. Just to mess with them, he knocked on the door, then transformed into a black widow, quickly crawling under the gap in the door and onto a wall in the house.

Alec shifted his weight from one for to the other, waiting for a reply. A smile spead across his face when Chess finally answered. "Thank you so much, sir. You won't regret it."

He quickly found a table and sat down, so he was out the way. As soon as the rain stopped, he would be leaving. His family were most likely worried sick. He sighed and stared out the window. Hopefully they would undetstand his absence.

Alva searched fervently through all of the pantries and cabinets, trying to find where they kept the bandages. You'd think he'd remember after how often they had to patch themselves up, but no. He exhaled in frustration, unable to find any of the cheap materials they would usually use for a bandage. "I think we used them all," Alva grumbled, looking over to his father.

His father's face was creased with concentration, gently holding the mouse down and speaking soothingly. Well, as soothingly as he could with his gravelly voice, "Stay still, mousie," he said softly, "this won't take long, and you'll be right as rain." He couldn't help but chuckle softly at the phrase, considering the weather outside. He didn't glance up at Alva, too busy thoroughly cleaning the wound for the dormouse, "Can you find our mending kit, then? We'll have to use that. And by we, I mean you." He heard someone knocking at the door and added, "Oh, and can you open the door real quick, check who's there?"

Alva groaned in exasperation, "Do I have to do everything in this house?"

"Well, I can't do it!" his father responded, "I'm busy. And they're your guests. Be polite."

Alva narrowed his eyes and grumbled angrily, stalking over to the door and quickly opening it, checking outside, "No one's there. Probably some stupid kids playing jokes again." He shut the door to keep the rain from falling in and went back to start searching for the mending kit.

Not seeing the girl as he left the bar, he ran smack into her. Falling on top of her into the now icy street. "Whoa!" Jumping up on his feet, he started to exclaim "son of a....." He looked down on the surprised rain soaked face of the girl. His expression Softened. He held out his hand. "My apologies miss. This isn't a safe place to be this late, may I escort you home?"

Alexia let the man help her up but shook her head nervously, feeling her usual fear as always when she was around other people. "No, no, I'm fine, I just-" she sneezed suddenly, hitting her head against his chest as beginning her mantra of apologies over again. "Oh my, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean," she sneezed again, although this time avoided contact with him. It was obvious she was becoming sick from the horrible weather. @Missykay

Asher smiled and tried really hard not to laugh but, ended up with a chuckle escaping. "It's OK. Look if you stay out her much longer you'll get sick. Is there somewhere you should be?" He never brought anyone "home". He didn't like to be known for his last name. Too many people took advantage of that. Damn money. Even helping, you had to be careful not to trust to quickly. However, he didn't want to leave her here. Especially with one victim already.

@McMajestic

"No. I'll be fine. I..." she took a step back from him, obviously afraid. "I just need to get home," she began walking although she stumbled and fell against a wall to a shop, sucking in a deep breath before coughing a bit. She sighed, leaning against the wall. She did need help, but she was too afraid to ask for it. What if this man used her? What if he hurt her- or worse, what if he heart her last name and knew who she was? She bit her lip, trying to compose herself, although she couldn't move forward just yet. @Missykay

What was this? Damsels in distress night? Asher gently sighed. "Uhm, hey, we have a.....a guest bedroom. For you to get warm and dry I mean." His cheeks grew red for a second. His parents would be asleep by now and so should Bernard, the butler. So, no explaining to do just sneak in like usual. "You could get a hot shower, dry clothes and some sleep?" His strong hands steadied her on her feet. Looking into her eyes he could see she was afraid do, he quickly shoved his hands into his pockets and backed up. "Ouch!" A piece of hail hit his shoulder. Asher looked up "Well...." Looking at the girl again for her answer.

For the most part of the time, Aeola had been distracting herself with studying the kitchen and its contents. Now she had her eyes trained on the little dormouse and the skilled fingers of the young-man-whose-name-she-had-yet-to-get's father. Her eyes seemed to darken ever so slightly as she watched while memories of when she was a wee little child played in the back of her head. This went on for some moments before she pushed the thoughts out of her mind, proceeding to push some of her wet red hair out of her face.
Flipping Cheap dye...

While she watched the proceedings of the kitchen, her ears mentally flicked as she heard a knock at the door. Her posture almost automatically became more straight and rigid as Alva went to go open the door. Who could possibly be there at this time of the night? She seemed to tense a bit more when their was no one at the door, her hands mid way through her hair paused for a second before continuing to disentangle her locks while her eyes roved the place.

"Must be a prankster..." She said in a joking voice, suddenly worried that the creepy man from earlier was stalking them, "...right...Ally?" She purposefully emohasized the nickname, in the hopes that he would catch on.

I'll be able to pay more attention now. Sorry.

Also, does anyone know how I can fix the little white space before the end of the border? I've been messing with this for ages now and it won't go away.

Francesca watched Alva open the door with a vague curiosity. Her immediate assumption was that it was probably just a friend of the family's, but when that turned out not to be the case, she was puzzled.

Prankster? That made sense, although she couldn't help but wonder why anyone would want to waste time pulling pranks in a hailstorm. Didn't seem like the greatest idea. So as much as she wanted to believe it was a prank, she was still pretty on-edge.

Still, best not to dwell on it for now. There were more important matters at hand.

...except they were being dealt with already. Oh. So instead of doing anything, Francesca just let out a halfhearted laugh at Aeola's use of the nickname "Ally".

Alva glanced back at the woman who referred to him as Ally with a slight expression of perplexion. So, he was an ally to someone now? Again, this night was getting stranger and stranger by the minute. Her comment, like his, waved off the odd knocking as just a silly prank, yet it still held a small amount of tenseness. If he hadn't been there to witness the creepy old man for himself, he would have passed this all off as utterly ridiculous. Besides, the kid neighbors were stupid, but not that stupid. "Yeah," he said quietly while he rummaged through the small closet, "those darn kids, you know?" He tried to let out a small laugh to release the tension, but it came out as more of a choked out noise.

"I . . . guess I should probably introduce myself," he continued.

"Wait a minute," his father interrupted, "you mean to tell me you lead them all the way here and didn't even bother to introduce yourself?"

"Well, there were kind of more important things on the brain, dad!" Alva interjected.

"We really need to work on your social skills, boy," his father rumbled, wiping his brow as he finished cleaning the wound. "There. That should stop it from getting infected."

Alva rolled his eyes, "Anyway," he said, drawing out the word for emphasis, "my name's Alva. So hi . . . I guess."

He breathed out a sigh before grinning in a small amount of triumph. He found one last bandage in the closet, a cheap wrap they'd use for all sorts of things. They could clip off a small part of it to wrap around the mouse and save what was left for emergencies. Alva snatched the rolled up wrap and tossed it to his father, who caught it with a firm hand and proceeded to gently wrap it around the mouse's body.

( xD Okay so I figured a bandage would be easier than stitching a mouse. However, @StoneWolf18 if you would rather your character get temporary stitches I can end up making them use that in my next reply.)

"Alva?" Aeola, who had by then turned her attention to him, repeated his name with a grin forming on her lips. It was the first time she'd ever heard a name quite like his, not in the many years she had been in Neidrenth. "Guess my 'nickname' for you earlier actually matched your name."

Letting out a light laugh in the hopes of releasing tension that recided in both her and everyone around her, she took to introducing herself too to the boy, his dad and the other girl. "My name's Aeola... Not much to add to that.." Her gaze moved from the boy to Fran curiosly.

Francesca continued to watch. She was pretty good at watching and not doing anything, as it turns out. Not that it's easy not to be good at watching. Even so, Francesca was good at it.

...Introductions. Right, that was something that needed to happen. She wasn't sure why she hadn't introduced herself before, really. Even if she had more important matters at hand, she could have introduced herself while she was walking. Manners, Francesca, manners!

Aeola and Alva. Those were interesting names, Francesca thought. Much more interesting than 'Francesca'. Francesca was just.... long. Even so, that was her name, and it didn't really matter.

"Oh... my name's Francesca. Er, Riley. Francesca Riley." Said Francesca. In case it wasn't obvious enough who was speaking. "It's nice to meet you both."

Fixed it, I think.

Hail cracked down against Alexia's arm and she yelped. "Is it close by?" She asked, giving in despite her horrible fear of what could happen to her if she was stuck alone with a man. She tried to swallow that fear down, to calm down, but found it difficult to. She needed to get out of the rain though before she got sick. She sighed, looking back at the man. "I'm Alexia," she added quietly, figuring if she was going to end up being in the same house as him he might as well know her name. The water rained down, making trails down her face and smudging the dark makeup on her face she had used to contour it when she made the deal at the black market. She was sure she looked terrible. @Missykay

*Blake Thrush* There he sat, orange hair ablaze as usual, with his doe eyes staring off into nowhere, him absentmindedly chewing on a loaf of bread. It was he was going to get to eat today, unfortunately, since he couldn't afford to waste anymore cash, especially with how far into debt he was. Though, for his only meal of the day, it was pretty good. A smile crossed his face, as he waved to a gaunt young man who stumbled by. They didn't know each other, but still, he waved back, though wariness was written across his face clear as day. It was obvious why. Blake looked like a foreigner, and with his odd clothes and... openness, he was quite the weird individual. Still, he was friendly with all that he met, because it'd be rude to not do so.

It was still too early for him to get started. The marketplace wasn't riled enough yet, with most marketeers just setting up as he sat. He had an agreement with those salesmen- that they'd tell the Reapers to lay off him, if he promised to entertain him with his signature dancing style- one that few could replicate. It was a living, he guessed. He'd rather be back in the forest, and his smile faded some as he looked to the sky. It was another cloudy day in the Hive. Still, each day had its perks, so he just had to find this one's! As his father always said.

"I wonder of papa's still kickin'. Probs." He questioned aloud, as he chewed his bread. The outside world was weird. Especially the cities. He bet all cities were like this- cold at night, broiling during the day, and grey. Super duper grey. But, eh, life moves on. "I wonder what kindsa people I'll meet today! Probs not too many, but I never know!" He grinned again, finishing off his bread with one final bite. Afterwards, he got up, and strolled to a nearby puddle, and lapped up what water he could. Blake had learned much in his time in the Hive, but proper etiquette was not one of them.

"Asher," he said smiling and taking her hand a placing a soft peck upon the top of it. I live uptown, he said with slight disdain. But, I have a motorcycle .(is this OK?) So,it's not but 5 minutes. He motioned her to follow him behind a large, rather smelly dumpster. "Whew, that's what rain and fish get ya", he chuckled. From behind it he pulled a medium sized motor bike. "Nothing fancy, hope you don't mind." His sideways grin lingered as he held out a helmet for her to put on.

Alva noticed the grin forming on Aeola'a lips and sighed, "I know, I know. It sounds girly and doesn't help my case at all." He glanced between the two girls, eyeing both of them closely, "Aeola and Francesca, huh? Nice to meet you I guess." He shrugged, not really sure what to do with this information. At least he could address them individually now instead of point and talk.

His father tied up the bandage neatly, "All done!" he said gruffly, wiping his hands on his trousers, "Should be fine after some rest." He then glanced at Aeola and Francesca, "You two ladies can spend the night here if you need to. Unfair of us to shove you out into that horrible weather. We don't have much, but it's something."

Aeola let out a light, breathye laugh at his comment about his name, her smile only widening. "No, it's not that. I just really like your name. It's not one i've ever heard of, besides among the Royalty back in..." Her voice trailed off for a second as she realized what she was about to reveal, "... It means his highness...yeah..."

In a hurry to change the conversation, she directed her attention towards Alva's father, giving him a grateful smile. "I can't possibly impose myself on you all," she responded, feeling rather guilty if she stayed, "as soon as the rain gives way a bit, i'll be heading out. There are some things i need to deal with."

(Sorry for the post, Dint get any alerts and well i am lost but i know where everybody is

xD ...Kinda...But just posting so all of you know im not dead or left, will try interact soon enough)

"Well little girl....you worked hard today but time to rest.."

"Markov! For the last time stop treating the forge like a baby!"

"What? She is one important forge have to treat her like a family member! this forge is what keeps us going...and able to craft6 the greatest metal!"

"and your mouth might be the end of it...just...turn the forge off and make sure the orders don't get messy as we have alot for tomorrow"

Right in the market district as the wind began to howl loudly as the rain fell from the sky like sharp glass, Markov was inside the shop they had poring a large bucket of water inside the red hot forge and as such as he did steam filled the room where him and his sister where. They cough at the large amount of smoke and Markov would start pulling a metal chain as a large metal disc would lower down on to the forge closing it from ejecting steam and dying off. With a sigh he would look behind him through the large opening of the shop where people came in and made there orders and such, The wind was strong and powerful and was kinda empty. slow Business.

Walking towards the counter he would place his arm in front of his eyes to shield himself from the wind and rain as he closed up shop.

"Ok all the request are in order make sure Natalia docent come down here so lock the door.....last time he did we had to guess who order was who's" Ash said as Markov just have a loud laugh and would just wave towards her acknowledging what she said.

One the shop was close he just walk towards a back door leading inside there house as there home was right in the market district WITH the shop so...it was right there. Locking the door behind him he would walk down a short hall leading towards the back of a living room and inside where mostly everybody: Mom,Dad, and Natalia Markov's niece. She was just 7 and one strong little Komodo Dragon. Immediately as markove walked in the room he would look down seeing the little lizard biting his leg. With a laugh he lean down and pick it up and smiled and ask

"
Hehehe! Some one is to hype.....i bird told me that some one here liked chocolate...wonder who it is..."

After he said such words the small lizard turn in to a little girl trying to reach towards him as she kept repeating "MEMEMEMEME!!! I WANT SOME!!!!" Natalia said loudly and all just laugh but...her mother said sadly "No you ate to much candy for today you have to eat healthy if you want to get be strong as uncle"she said with a chuckle as Markov just put down the grumpy looking little Brown curly haired girl....some one needed some candy...

"Well we have to go now, Natalia once dad comes i want you to tell him to clean the clothe, Mom, Dad Markov and I are leaving a little now so-"

"Ash we are NOT old! just go....don't get in trouble alright?"

Her father said as she just nodes and gave a kiss goodbye to her daughter as soon Markov and Ash left from the front door with umbrella's to shield themselves from the storm.

------------------------------------------------

It was cold outside and they would have stayed in the shop but they could not even use it seeing the forge was kinda dead, They needed more solid coal and as well some igniter to bring it back to life and that is what they where going shopping. Some walk upwards the sidewalk they would come to a store called "Jun's Great supplies" inside they where a variety of materials, odds and end's in rows of shelves.

"Hey june! We are back! Same as always"

Markov said as here they always buy what they needed kinda and it was close and they knew June since they settle here as the shop was not far.

"ZE MARKOV! i am glad to zee you two here! like alwayz? Ze coal and Igniter? at the bak!"

People kinda question her speaking...June was not from here as you can tell and well...was hard for her getting a new language but without hesitation Markov went to the back grabbing a 2 bags of solid NATURAL coal not Charcoal....they needed the solid one. But he had a problem searching for the ignition fuel...was hard to look through all this. As he did Ash already was paying as it was the same as always so just pay and grab simple....But Markov was still looking for the igniter so might take time for them to leave.

Clacking his pincer mouth together, he scuttled across the wall and onto the ceiling, pausing above the ongoing operation. He was wondering whether to soon his sticky web and descend into the father in his work, to bite and inject him with his highly potent neurotoxin, just to cause some fun chaos, when he heard something that caught his ears.

"...among the royalty back in..."

He stayed there, clinging to the ceiling. Come to think of it, she did have the eyes, but the hair, she seemed to have a little red on her hands... Dye? These were too many things that made too much perfect sense, could this be t he girl who had evaded him for 12 long years? His pincers frothed, and he turned all his spider eyes onto the girl at once. Aeola she said... Yes, yes this had to be her! And even if it wasn't, why not just kill her anyways, although his clients had wanted to see to her themselves. Thomas hesitated above the father, still wanting to plunge his fangs into him... But decided one of the "kids" would do nicely. He scurried across the ceiling, halting above the boy who looked to be the father's son (@ProjectMischa ). He stuck his strong web onto the wooden slats of the ceiling, and began spinning his way down, swinging slightly from side to side. Once a few feet above his head he dropped, landing in a cushion of hair. He froze, hoping the boy wouldn't notice so he could jump down to his neck and thicken his bloodstream with the delicious neurotoxin...

Alexia shivered slightly at the sight of the motorbike. She had never been on one before and just the sigh of it brought a fresh wave of fear to her. "Wh- what if I fall off?" she stuttered, before a scratch at her throat brought forth a coughing fit that caused her mild pain as she doubled over, resting her hands just above her knees as she coughed for a bit, before finally sucking in some air. She needed a place that was warm and dry. "I'm sorry," she whispered, for coughing, for something she couldn't control. She felt she had to, as if she was insulting him by coughing. @Missykay

CHARLES 'CHESS' CHESTER

@LittleLupin

(Whoops, sorry for leaving you for a day! I'll try and be a bit more detailed in this post to make up for it (':3) )

Chess spent several minutes examining the scene. The richly golden lighing was dwindling and flickering in and out of life. Probably the storm's fault. The carefully-placed arrangement of menus and folded serviets had been swept aside in the chaos, left on the floor to soak up the browning blood. Good thing I didn't lay out any cutlery, Chess thought, making an attempt to salvage the good from something of a catastrophe.

He swooped down at the floor and pinched a wad of soaked paper between his finger and thumb. Disgusting. He recognised the smell of blood like he would know the scent of his childhood home. Sharp, acrid, unpleasant. And now it was all over his table, drying into the cracked mahogany and littered with strands and locks of molted fur.

One by one, Chess picked up the serviets and menu cards and stowed them in a frayed and patched burlap sack behind the counter. The floor and table were still sodden, but as the soaked paper gradually vanished, the scene began to look much cleaner.

"Trust me, you won't fall off. Just hang on to me and you'll be fine." He helped her fasten the helmet and jumped the engine. With her seated behind him he revved the motor and took out. Splashing through a puddle sent a mist out around them. Asher was careful not to scare his passenger although he often rode a bit more recklessly by himself. Five minutes later, he pulled up into a alabaster carport attached to a fairly large house. Custom stone layout with pretty flowers adorning every window. He dropped the kickstand, hopped off and motioned for her to follow him in. @McMajestic
