Fandom My Little Pony Frontier

As the bat pony watched the others, she was unaware that she to was being watched.

Topaz eyes peered from the darkness, but with no shadow or form to betray it's location.

The eyes only floated there as magic swirled around it.

The eyes and mist inched silently closer to Fang.

And as it moved, it took the form of a young Pegasus.

Some how the unthinkable had happened as she..it. had managed to creep up behind her.

In a sly voice she remarked- " Strange isn't it.. All these pony.. More in the morning it seems. Nooo guards. "

The strange Pegasus laughed to herself before looking Fang over, judging her every move.

Indicus shrugged at the mayors words and went to the place designated for him and Steelheart to sleep. He kept his thought on sleeping at a different place then the barracks, as he went he made sure Steelheart was nearby and going the correct direction.

Crimson eyes warily studied the Pegasus. It wasn't often a pony could creep up on her, let alone a Pegasus. "It is strange," she murmured. "But perhaps none of them are actually in uniform yet. Hard telling what Celestia could possibly have in mind." Not that she didn't trust the Solar goddess. Well, perhaps there was a slight distrust in her decisions. Too many times it seemed she would neglect the children of the night. Creating a resort settlement in unknown territory? That wasn't something Luna would have jumped to, playful or not.

As the three walked off Firecracker felt his heart mysteriously sink.

He couldn't tell what was the cause, but he didn't think it was the mayor.

He had dealt with that pony before and didn't get upset.

He sighed to himself and found himself walking along the same road they took.

Meanwhile the strange Pegasus laughed again as she continued " My my.. Now that's a good idea. Hiding in plain sight. "

She drifted slowly and silently in circles around Fang.

"And just whom, or what is this lovely creature with these ideas?" She bizarrely asked Fang waving a hoof at her as if to ask for introductions

Fang's eyes continued to follow the Pegasus as she lazily hovered around her. "Shadow Fang if you're looking for a name." She wouldn't lie, something certainly did seem off about this pony. Perhaps it was in the way her wings flapped nearly soundlessly.

The Pegasus's eyes lit up at her answer, as she replied- "Shadow Fang..Shadow Fang.. hmmmm Such a lovely name."

She took a deep breath as almost to smell the air before adding " Such a lovely night for Shadow Fang the bat pony"

Her manor of speaking was almost as odd as the way she was acting.

" You do know you your mission's objective is closer then you think..don't you?" she remarked.

But how did she know anything that?

Before giving a chance to reply she announced " ANDA! that's the name of this pony.."

She said as she held a hoof to her chest.

"Anda," Fang murmured in response. "Certainly a different name." Tired of her hood getting in her face, she pulled it off. Perhaps this pony wouldn't mind the scars marring her muzzle. "Are you from around here, Anda?"

Again Anda's eyes lit up as Fangs hood fell.

She even stopped her nauseating spin.

"My my.. A warrior pony.. Such unfortunate outcomes." She remarked in a somewhat fake loving voice.

She turned her gaze to the area below them before answering " Around here?..yesss. perhaps the only other pony from this area."

Gesturing to both herself and somepony in the distance. before adding " Me, and the flutter filly."

She then started flying upside down softly laughing to herself.

She then commented " So tragic her and the bat pony will never 'see' eye to eye." laughing at her own mean joke.

Again dominating the conversation she remarked " But YOU. you sweet bat filly, you see perfectly well. like the foolishness of the pony in charge of this mess."

Meanwhile The three pony reached the estate on the hill.

Steel heart could smell the roses the mayor planted a week ago and knew she was home.

Fang's crimson eyes narrowed slightly as she watched the pony fly. Something about her was . . . unnerving to say the least. Though the bat pony wouldn't deny her dislike of the mayor. "I take it you don't overly like him either." Her tone was flat.

An almost wicked smirk creased across Anda's face as she replied-"Oh my yess, the fool earth pony is a bit of bother isn't he."

Waving a hoof slowly in a dismissing manner she excused- " But he'll be gone soon. . very soon. . No, I was speaking of the immortal ones who sent him here."

She again began to spin, this time in place and raptly as she exclaimed " Oh what fun tomorrow's festivities will be. "

Before stopping on a dime face to face with Fang.

Suddenly she took on a different voice, one much younger then her 'normal one' as she asked- "please say you'll come?.. I know you will.. I can see into your future. "

He'd be gone soon? Not that Fang wouldn't be surprised if he abandoned the village. Why would the princesses even pick such a high strung pony to be in charge anyway? He seemed to panic at the slightest thing off schedule. A small frown tugged at her lips, "It isn't my place to judge the Princesses' decisions." She muttered under her breath.

Her eyes locked onto Anda's. "Festivities? Can't say I've heard anything about that. Not that anypony has really said much to me."

Shina have a few curious blinks when Firecracker jumped in front of here to block the mayor's view. When she finally realized what he was doing a charmed smile crossed her lips. For a second her antler like horn glowed as she levitated hey hood back up on to her head. As nice as the mayor had been to her Shina didn't understand why he would speak down to an artist like Firecracker.

As the flutterpony and batpony turned to leave Shina knew she needed to follow if she were to bunk with Stealheart. However she suddenly felt reluctant to leave. Turning to Firecracker the young kirin looked as if she wanted to say something but the words escapes her. She knew this place would not be safe for the other ponies if she stayed, but suddenly she found her self wanting to stay for more then just one night. "Maybe, I'rr see you before I reave tomorrow? " Shina final said, before departing to follow the others.

At the estate, Steelheart let out a soft and happy sigh- " Well, we're here. The main floor has the bedrooms, and there should be a garden house..well, in the garden . You can stay there tonight if you like Mr.Indicus."

Letting out a tiny yawn then flutter pony floated towards the first hall on the left.

In a tired voice she said " Feel free to look around before bed, I assume it looks nice here. The mayor spent a lot of time and bits to on this estate house."

Back along the lonely road Firecracker marched along aimlessly.

Shina's words "Before I leave tomorrow " Echoed in his head.

He had barely met this pony for a minute, but already didn't want to see her go.

Something about her inspired him, and for an artist pony a muse was nothing to let go of.

In the distance, he could see a lone estate house overlooking the sea, just as the mayor had said.

He paced and scuffed his hoofs knowing this sudden fascination wasn't normal.

Could this be one of those things the Princesses had wanted him to learn about by sending him here?

And what about that strange glowing thing she carried with her?

Was it dangerous?

All this questions consumed his mind as he slowly trudged closer to the estate without even realizing it.

Suddenly a small drop of water snapped him out of his trance as he realized he was on the estate grounds.

A large fountain had sprayed him when a gust of wind had past.

Embarrassed that he had actually come all this way, all he could think to say was " Oh duds."

Meanwhile in the skies above the seemingly insane pony made one final warning-

"Come to town tomorrow and see. I'll be there.."

With that she began to fade just as the dragon did.

Dissappering into nothing but a sinister laugh.

Once they finally reached the barracks Shina decided it would probably be polite to let Steelheart know she'd followed them, as well as introduce her self. "Um, excuse me. You are Steerheart, correct? I am Shina, the mayor suggested I bunk with you. I promise I wirr not be a bother, and wirr aid you any way I can. Though I'm afraid I can only stay one night..." Her voice trailed off for a moment, seeming to realize just how disheartened her tone was to say she'd only stay one night. She'd had passed through many towns and cities, staying only as briefly as possible in populated areas, even preferring to sleep out in the woods when she wasn't so tired or worn down from her travels. So why did she suddenly find her self longing to stay in this little settlement?

True the ponies here were very nice, and seemed very accepting of all breeds of ponies, but she'd met nice ponies and left with ease. So why did this suddenly feel so hard? For a moment her thoughts returned to Firecracker and upon realizing it she suddenly gave a quick shake of her head to try and shake him from her mind. Her quest was far too important for such distractions, and to stay would endanger him and everypony with in this small settlement. Shina knew she could not risk Konton awakening around innocent ponies, and some kind of strange magic in this land had already caused him to stir.

Fang's frown only deepened as Anda disappeared. It seemed this may not be a Pegasus worth trusting . . . Shaking her head, she pushed the thought from her mind as she started back towards town. It seemed very few lights had been put up yet. Not that it was an issue for her. Keen eyes allowed her to see in the dark as if it were day for normal ponies. Though this became an issue when the sun was up.

So now what am I supposed to do? It looks like nopony even sent word that I was going to be here with the others. The bat pony let out an annoyed groan. Just my luck.

Indicus nodded, "Thanks for telling me Steelheart." hearing Shina introduce herself he looked her way and looked her in the eye, "Well good luck with your travels." Indicus had a feeling the mare was not traveling as far as she was for a vacation but did not inquire on his thoughts.

Without another word Indicus walked to the small garden house Steelheart pointed out, entered and took off his armor and un did his sword belt hanging the armor on a armor rack that seemed to be there just for him and the sword belt on the head of the bed.

Fang shifted, pulling her hood back up. If it came down to it sleeping outside wouldn't be too much of an issue. Far from the first time she'd done it. At least it was warm outside. She shook her head, her sleep schedule had been all sorts of messed up as of late. Must be all the travel . . . Looking around the small town, there was no one in sight. It looked more like a ghost town than a work in progress resort.

Steel heart turned over her shoulder towards the sound of Shina's voice.

In a disappointed voice she replied- " Awe, well it's still very nice to meet you. It's too bad that you can't stay."

Turning around she thought to herself for a moment before adding- " I don't really need too much help, but could you let me know when it's morning. I have a hard time telling which is which sense I can't see. "

She then smiled sweetly and tried to turn before bumping into a wall.

Fortunately Indicus had already left for the garden house, sparing her part of the embarrassment.

Rubbing her nose where she had bumped, she faked a nervous laugh before saying- " well, goodnight. you should find a second bedroom down the hall on the right whenever your ready for bed."

You could tell she was in a hurry to get away from the embarrassment of what she had done.

She then fluttered down the hall to her bedroom.

Meanwhile Outside the estate house Firecracker felt bad for fallowing the group all this way.

He lowered his head in embarrassment and shame and turned to walk away.

But it was then he noticed sets of hoof prints in the soil by the fountain.

One set was shaped differently and he knew it had to belong to whatever kind of pony shina was.

He was torn between wanting to see her again, but not wanting to seem like a weirdo stalker.

He did have to hide behind the fountain while Indicus passed after all.

It was then her words echoed in his ears again " Before I leave tomorrow.."

He knew that if he didn't see her now, he may never see her again.

Suddenly an idea came to him; The flutter pony was blind, he might be able to get her attention without making things even more awkward.

He took a deep breath and lit the tip of his horn like a sparkler.

Copper colored sparks flew from the tip as he closed his eyes and focused.

dipping his horn in the fountain, he used his magic to change the color of the water to match.

It began to react to his seeming apposing magical alignment as copper drops of water began to rise and float.

The hovered just above like low floating stars.

As he strained to put more power into it, they began to swirl and dance in rhythmic patterns.

It was his hopes that this display of magic would attract her attention even if she had gone to bed.

At this time another light glowed as it bobbed along the empty roads.

This was a lamp held by Mayor Catchpenny who was still up making rounds.

As he trotted along he noticed a shadowy figure not far from him.

" Who.. who's there? " He asked Fang in a nervous voice

Fang's ear perked up at the Mayor's fearful call. She was tempted to mess with the high strung pony but decided against the idea. "Well aren't you a bit skittish tonight," she called out as she moved closer to him. "It's me, Shadow Fang."

Mayor Catchpenny seemed to jump a meter in the air when she replied.

Clearly bravery wasn't his strong suit, but he was old and there had already been a timber wolf attack today.

It seemed he wasn't expecting anyone to answer his call.

Holding a hoof to his chest he caught his breath before replying - " Sweet Celestia you startled me"

As he approached, he held the lantern high to make sure it was her.

As he got close enough he again answered -" I may be a touch on edge, yes. At any rate I'm glad it's you I bumped into."

Looking over his shoulder he seemed even more skittish, almost paranoid.

She quirked an eyebrow in his direction, honestly what was it with the ponies here acting so strange? Her crimson hues glowed faintly in the dark of the night. "Oh? And why's that?" Her cloak rustled slightly in the cool breeze.

Again the mayor looked back to make sure they were alone before speaking up- "You may be to new here to have noticed, but things around this island are strange."

Setting down the lantern he suggested- " I feel it has something to do with the acquisition of the land from the flutter tribes.

They warned us that.." His focus drifted off as if he had something pressing on his mind before he continued

" Anyway, tomorrow is our opening day festival. Ponies from all over Equestra will be coming for a party to induct this land into the twin sister's kingdom. "

He took a step closer to her before asking- " Please ma'am, you seem like a capable pony. we have so few guards here to keep pony safe. I'm not sure what brought you here, but if you could stick around tomorrow and keep the peace, I have a some Bits that could make it worth your time"

Fang frowned as he talked about how the Flutter Ponies had given a warning when the land had been claimed. How did they acquire it anyway? No wonder the strange Pegasus from before seemed upset over the matter. "I have no need for your money," she finally responded. "While I will stick around, a strong magic seems to be stirring. I'm not sure how much help I can be in the matter even if I am capable of using magic of my own."

Shina did her best not to smile as Steelheart bumped her nose. She knew it was not polite, but still found it a bit silly at times how the pony hadn't learned her surroundings yet. Just the same she did her best to remain sweat and understanding. "Werr, if you need anything just carr for me." Shina offered before heading down the hall to find her own room. For a moment she paused to glance back over her shoulder to ensure the blind pony found her way in to her own room with out too much difficulty.

Once in an empty room Shina wriggled her way out of her cloak, leaving it crumpled up on the floor for now. Her shimmering scales seemed to almost glow in the darkness as she gave her whole body a shake, glad to be free of the restrictive cloth. Pausing a moment she checked to ensure the vile containing Konton's ashes was still hanging safely from a cord around her neck. She gave a faint smile which quickly faded to see it still there. As important as it was for her to guard this vile till she could find it a suitable home Shina found trouble finding much joy in it at times like this. A heavy sigh leaving her lips she walked to a near by window, pushing it open to let in some fresh air.

She'd entered this remote settlement in hopes of sleeping indoors tonight, and yet she suddenly found her self unable to sleep. Folding her forelegs on the window seal she laid her chin on them as those fuchsia eyes gazed aimlessly out the window. Looking as if she might just nod off right there a sudden spark of color caught her eye. Lifting her head and perking her ears she looked curiously for a moment, trying to make out what was going on. The fountain seemed to be changing color, and giving off light. Leaning out the window a bit she glanced right, then left, making sure no one was around to see her with out a cloak to hide her scales before giving a quick hop to push her self out the window, landing softly on the ground below. Moving cautiously forward she marveled at the fountain for a moment giving a few astonished blinks. "Wow..." She muttered softly to her self, the sparks of copper color reflecting off her pearl like scales.

Mayor Catchpenny breathed a heavy sigh of relief at Shadow Fang's agreement to stay.

Thanking her over and over again decreed- " Then I here-by deputies you as peace keeper, and body guard to the Flutter ambassador."

sneaking that last part in.

Clapping his hoofs together like an obnoxious young colt he added-" This will make my day so much simpler"

Meanwhile back in the fountain area, Firecracker was running out of strength.

The magic needed to illuminate and levitate water was proving very hard for him .

Opening his eyes for a moment, he could make out a pony like shape that he hoped was Shina.

Taking a final deep breath and re-closing his eyes he focused the magic in the area of the figure.

The tiny orbs of light danced and swirled around her, twinkling like starlight.

With the last of his magic he shot the orbs into the air and burst them in a display of color and design.

Before collapsing to the ground exhausted.

In the Distance, Mayor Catchpenny was able to see this final display of firework magic.

Groaning in disapproval he asked- " And if you find the time, do something about that clown pony! "
