Fandom My Little Pony Frontier

"Don't sell yourself short Steelheart, your burst of magic helped a lot and not everyone is meant to fight off the monsters in the world." Indicus then laughed at her comment on the mayor then shrugged seeing no harm in being followed by the Flutter-pony . "Sure you can stay with me if you want." With that Indicus headed towards the door to resume patrol this time with a follower to pass the time.

Steelheart trotted along happily, sticking close to Indicus to not get separated.

As the two made their rounds, she became more comfortable with her movements and surroundings.

Time passed without incident, and she soon began humming a tune.

Soon they came to a court yard with a small well.

Taking a moment to rest, Steelheart wondered off a bit, until she bumped into a side of the well.

This only surprised her for a moment, she was use to bumping into things by now.

She again began to hum the same tune.

slowly the echos of her voice resonated up from the well.

Her tiny voice grew with each echo until it sounded like she was in harmony with herself.

Engrossed in the sound, she forgot Indicus was there, and began to sing.

"Alas, my love, you do me wrong ,To cast me off discourteously. For I have loved you well and long, Delighting in your company."

It echoed louder still until the court yard was filled with the sounds of her singing.

"Greenhooves was all my joy, Greenhooves was my delight,Greenhooves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady greenhooves"

The wind began to pick up, and flower petals seemed to dance about her as she sang.

"Your vows you've broken, like my heart,Oh, why did you so enrapture me?Now I remain in a world apart But my heart remains in captiv- oh! oh my Im sorry."

It had just dawned on her that she wasn't singing quietly to herself, but giving a mini concert.

She could feel her face become warm with a hard blush as she cringed in embarrassment.

Indicus was surprised by the sudden singing from Steelheart but soon found himself engrossed in the song when the song suddenly ended he found himself with a small smile and when Steelheart apologized and he saw her flush and cringe in embarrassment he felt it appropriate to let her know what he felt about the song. "That was quite a beautiful song and...." Indicus did not know how to express the emotions that the song gave him and he felt words did it no justice but eventually he found the words he was looking for. "The song gave me a moment of peace I guess, it felt for once that I did not have a trail of bodies and a river blood following me everywhere I walked, for that I believe I must thank you Steelheart."

Still blushing from being caught singing, she tilted her head in confusion to ask- " Rivers of blood? trail of bodies?"

She then smiled sweetly and dismissed it with- "Don't be silly, your a good Stallion Mr. Indicus."

She took a few steps towards him, but was slightly off center from being in front of him.

Steelheart tilted her head down and blushed again, asking " did you really like my song?. It's a song Queen Rose Dust used to sing to me when I was young."

She then looked up at him with empty, but emotional eyes " It's kinda silly huh?.. I mean teaching such a sad song to a Filly.. But I always loved it"

She smiled at him again, adding " The Queen was always so kind to us."

Taking an uncharacteristically sarcastic tone, she remarked "Not like the royal pony sent me here. High and mighty, up on a hill "

She then placed a hoof over her mouth and gasped- " Oh, I'm sorry.. I shouldn't talk like that. I know your a soldier pony, so you must have loyalties to your crown."

Indicus did not comment on his own goodness but rather the rest of what she said. "Your Queen seems like a great person, and no I honestly think the song is quite reflective if sad then again songs mean different things to everyone and that is the beauty of them and music in general it is great for reflecting emotion and showing it to the world. Indicus then laughed at Steelhearts comment on whatever noble sent her hear.

"You did not say anything to offend me. I may be a former solider for Luna's guard but I was first a solider for the Thalemn military and when I took my oath then I never swore loyalty to the leaders of my country but to the country and it's people even when I became apart of one of Luna's spec ops teams and swore loyalty to the crown I still put the first oath I ever took first." Indicus took a breath before continuing. "I a loyal to the Thalemn government and the Equestrian crown because they are loyal to the citizens they govern over. Even if I don't agree with them all the time."

Indicus took another breath and decided to sit down seeing as he had nowhere specific to be at the time. "Anyway I would like to hear the story behind the Noble that sent you here, sounds interesting."

A cloaked pony was among the last to disembark from the ship. Crimson eyes scanned the small settlement from under her hood. This was Fang's first chance to truly rest since she joined the Order. However she was to report anything unusual as well as keep an eye out for potential recruits. But she wasn't going ot worry about that. Not yet anyway. The bat pony was exhausted from the journey, not to mention she had a difficult time seeing during the day. Just too bloody bright. Keeping her head down, Fang started making her way into town.

"Who me?" Steelheart ask in a surprised tone.

She shook her hooves in a dismissive manor stating " Oh I'm no pony important, I am just a simple flutter pony in serves to her ladyship Queen Rosedust"

This was slightly different then the last time she used that line.

"As for the Noble pony who sent me.. " both her tone and eyes sank as she continued- " I was..kinda..conscripted." She faked a nervous laugh as she remarked- "Not much choice in the matter eh?"

"Im sure Lavender moon knew what she was doing though, I mean after all I am one of the few flutter pony who can speak to-" Her confidence began to drop and she began to rise as she again began to drift upward.

She also seemed very scatterbrained, and made less, even for her.

"Oh it's nothing, I'm here now is the important part to the story. I'm far more interested in hearing about you".

It seemed almost like she was mixing sincerity, with aversion to his question.

Back near the docks Mayor Catchpenny was waiting for the sailor to come ashore when a hooded pony crossed his path.

"Who in Equestria is that?" He thought to himself as his eyes fallowed the gliding stride of this pony.

He quickly flipped through his charter as he walked up to the pony asking " Well hello there. I wasn't expecting the next batch of arrivals until this evening. By any chance are you one of the Weather Pony from Cloudsdale?"

One of her ears rotated towards the approaching pony as he voiced his question. Stopping, Fang turned to face him. Red eyes peering out from under her hood. "No, I'm afraid Bat Ponies aren't as adept at weather control as the Pegasi." She quickly looked over the much older pony. Judging from his appearance he must have been one of the administrators on the island.

"Oh dear.. Oh dear oh dear" He nervously rambled as he flipped through his charter.

" No pony mentioned a second bat pony arriving. Does Princess Luna really think the Island is that unsafe" He carried on to himself.

It seemed he cared more about the disruption to schedule more then presence of this mysterious mare.

Finally peeling himself from his papers, Mayor Catchpenny noticed her struggling in the blaring sun.

" Oh you poor dear. oh yes, right this way" He remarked as he guided her to some shade.

" These old brain cells forget sometimes what pony are accustom to what." he added as he scribbled an amendment into his charter.

Pointing towards the barracks he explained- " The only place with any real shade however, is the the garrison in the hill there. Your welcome to stay in the bunks until night fall if you like. I'm sure by then we'll have the paper work sorted out and you'r home will be assigned. "

Reconizing her evasiveness, Indicus decided not to pry further into the Flutterpony's past. "Well my past is not too impressive and I already told you a fair bit but if you want to know more it wouldn't hurt." Indicus took a breath lining up the events he wanted to tell Steelheart and the omissions he would make along the way. "Well I was in a orphanage for the first few years of my life, but was adopted by a Griffin and pony couple at the age of three, where I was given quite a normal childhood in the small country of Thalemn. Might as well give a little about the country while i'm at it."

Indicus took another breath in preperation for the history lesson, "Thalemn is a relatively small country with a population of about fifty million citizens that come from all races and walks of life, It is ran by an elected congress and house with the president as the head of the country. This works quite well even with the stupidity that sometimes snakes it's way into the government." Indicus then shifts his legs to avoid them going to sleep on him. "Anyways my mother a earth pony named Siren Song and father a griffin named Markel (mark-kell) raised me quite well considering they had to deal with my magical spurts. When I was twelve I learned about my magical affinity which as you saw was the manipulation of shadows or Shadowmancy, when this happened they found a per-pony that was well versed enough in the craft to let me control it. From there I later joined the Thalemn military and the rest is history." Indicus took a water skin from his belt and downed the liquid inside his throat parched from all his talking.

She gave a curt nod to the rather scatterbrained elder. "Thank you," she said in a low voice before making her way towards the garrison. The mare had certainly stayed in more than her share of similar military buildings. But the shade would be appreciated. Hopefully anypony in there is a little more level headed than him . . .

Steelheart slowly lowered back to the ground as she became more comfortable again.

She listened intently to everything Indicus had to say; her eyes shifting like she was trying to fallow along some kind of story.

As Indicus stopped to take a drink she replied -" Wow.. that's amazing. Flutter pony life is nothing like that. "

She became excited as she remarked- " We have our larger groves, but nothing the size of country."

She cocked her head to the side and added " We also to don't have anything like a military."

In her excitement to learn about Indicus's origins, she was telling more about herself in the process.

"I also never really understood what an orphanage was. When I asked, an earth pony told me it was a place for those with no parents." She continued

"But, where I'm from we don't have parents. The whole grove raises each newborn filly or colt. "

She then looked down like she was thinking before suddenly saying " But the one who gave birth to me was called Lavender Moon. By earth pony standards I think that would make her my mother."

Back at the Docks Mayor Catchpenny watched the new pony walk towards the garrison.

Seeing that she was still just in earshot he shouted- "Mind the mess though, there was a bit of a ruckus that left a hallway damaged ! "

Fang's ears again rotated towards the shouting pony. She wondered what kind of ruckus he could have been talking about. Though guessing from his rather highstrung attitude it was likely something spilled or some such trivial problem. Honestly, how did ponies like him always find themselves with such responsibilities? Perhaps the more important question was how could they handle it without imploding? The dark colored pony gave a soft chuckle at the thought as she entered the cool and shade of the building.

Finally, some relief for her poor eyes. Keen ears rotated this way and that, it seemed the building was empty for the time being. Perhaps she could rest a little in peace. Finding an unoccupied bed, she let her cloak slip to the floor before crawling in.

Indicus thought about the idea of having no need for orphanages or a standing military and what that would imply. "Well I must say that is interesting to say the least, I could not imagine the danger we would be open to without a military or grasp the concept of an entire town raising a child. I guess it says a lot about cultural and location differences between the Flutter pony Groves as you call them and the nation of Thalemn." Indicus continued to think about the two cultures and was amazed that a nation could be without a standing army and not worried about how it could defend itself from potential threats.

Dainty split toed hooves reflected a gold shimmer as the peeked out beneath a long cloak covering the figure of a slender young pony. Shina had found that covering her self in the drab brown fabric drew far less attention. In her travels she'd come to realize that her breed of pony was not very common and the appearance of her shimmering scales often startled or even frightened others. The hood of her cloak was drawn up over head, tented in a point a bit too far back for an ordinary unicorn's horn, her's curving and twisting back. Only her hooves and nose were really viable to those who didn't look more closely, but even that was enough to see a few shimmering scales upon her muzzle, framed by her thick red mane sticking out from the hood.

Those fuchsia eyes gazed out upon the developing town in a moment of hesitation. She knew the ashes in the vial hanging from her neck were very dangerous, should the phoenix awaken, but she'd been walking for days and found her self longing to rest in a warm bed. Perhaps if she was careful these ponies would never realize who or what she was, and she could be gone again the next day.

Finally choosing the aching in her hooves over the guilt that she might be endangering others Shina slowly cantered in to the developing town. Her head hung forward to let her hood help hide her strange features those fuchsia eyes avoiding any contact with others while giving a glance here in there in hopes of spotting an inn, tavern, or hotel of some kind.

It took longer than she thought it would to finally fall asleep. One wing was tucked closely to her side while the other barely touched the floor. The thin membrane was somewhat transparent in the light. Her ears twitched slightly, a quiet moan could be heard from the stirring mare. Images danced before her eyes. Cyan eyes glaring from thick mist, slaughtered guards being used as puppets, and fire. That dreaded hell fire that only an ancient dragon could produce.

She had stood there, in the center of a burning Everfree Forest. The enchanted purple flames were consuming anything in their path. Shouts and cries could be heard as creatures attempted to flee certain death. Her spear was held at the ready as she stood face to face with that demon. The dragon Nightmare Soul. Another stream of fire engulfed her vision.

Crimson eyes shot open, struggling to take in every detail of the small room. A dream, it was just a dream. The bat pony groaned and rubbed her eyes. How many times would she have that same dream?

As the sun quickly began to set behind the trees, Steelheart tilted her head in confusion.

" Is it that strange? You only need enough warrior pony to drive off the wild life, and if you pick your grove right you don't see much of that"

It was clear she didn't understand anything about real war or armies as she added in a bewildered voice- " I guess I still have allot to learn."

As the darkness of twilight cast everything into shadow, the only thing that wasn't darkened was Steelheart's eyes.

They still had the same warm glow as if reflecting the sunset.

Because of this she didn't seem to notice that night time had crept up on them.

Back in town Mayor Catchpenny was going over his charter when he noticed the sun setting.

"Ah, the next ship will be in soon." He exclaimed to himself.

He then turned his attention to another pony who weakly wondered into town.

" How in the hay?." he questioned himself, as he was sure he didn't see anymore come from the docks.

And then it dawned on him " Sweet divine sisters, did that pony come across the frontier?"

Rushing over to the cloaked wanderer he shouted " My goodness, are you alright? Are you hurt?!"

It was about this time that Firecrakcer had finished seeing the prince's new home and decided to take an evening stroll on his own.

"The night are is so fresh out here. Reminds me of the summer festivals in Cantorlot." He remarked out loud as he walked along the shore side.

Indicus smiled at the pure innocence displayed by this flutter pony and personally hoped nothing would taint that. He noticed the sun setting and the moon rising giving way to purple, orange, and red shades that reflected off the free roaming clouds in the distance. "Wow it's getting late already." When Indicus looked back at Steelheart he noticed the glow that came from her eyes and silently vowed to try to not break said innocence.

Steelheart didn't even look up to check as she tilted her head and asked " Is it really night time so soon? I never can tell in this area."

She then paced a bit before continuing " Back in the grove, the temperature would always tip me off. But here the ocean keeps it about the same all the time."

Blushing with a slight embarrassment she explained " The past few weeks I've been needing the mayor to tell me when it's time to come in, but he's been so busy with the new arrivals I doubt he knows where I am."

She gently kicked a small stone in frustration before asking- " I hate to ask for help but.. Could you help me find that old Parasprite? I need him to find my home."

With a slight giggle she remarked- " I sure don't know what it looks like."

Indicus chuckled, "Yea sure I'll help you find the mayor, he probably is still near the dock waiting for any last minute arrivals" Indicus got up and waited for some sort of acknowledgment that would tell him that she knew where he was and was ready to go. "Well ready when ever you are."

The sound of approving hooves and a shout of concern caused Shina to jump a bit startled. As a natural reaction her head lifted to bring her fuchsia eyes toward the sound, revealing a glimpse of her scaled face and antler line horn. Quickly remember she was not like these ponies she quickly lowered her head again to let the hood hide her features answering in a soft and weary tone, though speaking a bit slow and simply as if the language was not native to her. "I ahm aright. Ish there ah inn here?"

One of her front hooves pawed nervously at the ground beneath her as she tried to slink further under her cloak. She was still worried as to what this stranger might think of her if he were to notice her scaled body.

Fang groaned a little and stretched. There was no point in trying to get anymore sleep. Black hooves stepped onto the stone floor as she looked around for a clock. It had to be getting dark soon, right? At least then she would be able to walk around without being blinded by the sun. Bending down, she retrieved her cloak and carefully pulled it on. Soldier or not, she never cared for others staring at her scarred form.

Steelheart smiled and nodded before bumping into the side of the well.

"Ow! who put this wall here?" she jokingly complained.

It seemed she was a bit helpless after dark.

She again began to silently hover before asking- " Umm.. I don't suppose you could help get me to the docks first"

A faint blush began to show as she rubbed the back of her head.

Back at the docks a distant boat horn could be heard as the mayor looked over his shoulder in response.

Turning his attention back to the cloaked pony he thought about her question.

Flipping through his charter he thought out loud " an inn.. an inn.. hmm."

The village was still in it's early development, and wasn't yet suited for visitors.

"Great Graymane's ghost ! I just realized we don't have any commercial lodging."

He took a step forward with concern in his eyes.

raising a hoof to his chin to think, it suddenly dawned on him. - " Pardon my asking but your a mare right?. I do have an assistant with a spare bedroom.

She's a flutter pony so she's a bit scatter brained, but she's got a good heart.

In the moon light a silhouette walked along sighing impatiently.

Firecracker heard this distant boat horn and cringed at the memory of his fireworks display going wrong.

As he walked closer to the actual dock, he noticed the mayor speaking with a pony who was all covered up.

He thought it must be the prince.

Seeing that Thunder wasn't with them he approached to see if everything was ok.

Fang paced slightly. It wasn't often she found herself unsure of what to do. The sound of a boat horn nearby caught her attention. Were there really more ponies headed to this not even half finished settlement? Perhaps this was supplies or something instead. Tired of pacing in the apparently deserted barracks, the bat pony made her way outside. The sun had vanished over the horizon allowing the moon to bathe the shore in its cool light.

Shina gave a faint nod at the question as she answered again with that odd accent. "Hai." Hearing that there was no actual inn and that she would have to barrow a room in someone else's home seemed to make her uneasy, her right front hoof rubbing the back of her left front leg self conciously. "I do not wish tu be ah boter..."

The sound of another pair of hooves approching drew her head up again, her ears moveming beneath the fabric of her hood at the noise. She glanced glancing briefly at the second pony to arrive on the scene before quickly bowing her head again to hide her pearly scales. "I ahm just pahssing trough." She paused a moment to seeming to struggle with her enunciation on certain sounds. "It mahy be bettur if I go..."

(Think I'm about to give up on trying to type in a Japanese accent. x.x)
