Music of the Knight

Yuki shrugged. Everyone in town was either a hunter or worked worked for the association in some way. Yes, there were times when she got caught in the clutches of a Level E, but someone always came to her rescue: Zero, Senri and Takuma, and one time, even Kaname. She realized that she owed him more than she originally thought. He saved her on more than one occasion. Once, she was even unconscious. Yuki subconsciously pat Artemis. "I understand, Father. I'll stay with you. But, you really shouldn't worry about me. I'm not scared of the town anymore. I have everything I need." Smiling, she pressed her lips to his cheek and hurried to bathe, and then bed until the next morning, though the sun was rising already. Classes were cancelled for the day after the party.

Takuma wanted to see Maia, to hold her and tell her that everything was going to be fine, but he felt that she needed alone time, so he laid his head against his pillow and slowly went to sleep, grateful that Grandfather Icijo left, alone.

Ruka's heart skipped as Kaname allowed her entry. With a trembling hand, she entered and watched the Pureblood. "Forgive me for snooping, Lord Kaname. I know that I probably shouldn't have heard." She reached up and swept her hand across her neck as she spoke. "I guess what I want to ask is, what did you mean when you told the Senator that the final act was soon to be in play? You aren't planning to turn that girl, are you?" This pained her greatly. "Cross forbids the biting of humans here, Lord Kaname. "

The Headmaster sighed a little when Yuki said she wasn't afraid anymore. "Really?" he asked quietly as he stared after the girl's retreating form. "Well I suppose you really have grown up..." The man smiled a little sadly. He always felt like Yuki and Zero were his own, no matter what had happened or how much of the truth he knew. And it seemed like it was time for Yuki to know too. He didn't want to keep her from that when she was so determined- it wouldn't be fair.

Maia closed the door to her room and plopped down on her bed for a moment before getting ready to just rest for a little. She felt down, and it was something she wasn't used to. Yet, she didn't know how to go about raising her spirits at this point. The blonde just sighed and laid her head on the pillow, her eyes still open wide, unable to sleep.

Kaname frowned as Ruka questioned him yet again. Theoretically speaking, she had no right to do such things, or even to feel such things for the pureblood. However, Kaname could never be very rude to his classmates. He was much more patient and just than many of the other purebloods, or even most vampires. "I need to be able to trust you," he told Ruka. "But for your own sake, you should not get too close to me. I'll only disappoint you in the end." Kaname turned to stare out the window. It was true- he could never love her, and he would only cause her pain if he led to believe he could.

The morning couldn't have come sooner. Yuki was both excited and nervous. "I have to know the truth. I'm sorry, Kaname." She felt guilty, like she was lying to the one person that meant most to her. "Please, forgive me for what I'm about to do. Please, don't worry. Whatever truth you hide from me, I can live with it." Without waiting on her father, Yuki stepped out and walked toward the town, getting a sinking feeling as she passed the Moon Dorm.

Takuma decided that he would talk to Maia. She must have been so scared or at least confused. He felt that old need to protect her as his knuckles wrapped against the door. "Maia, are you alright?" He came inside and sat in a chair beside her. "Are you worried about what happened?"

"That didn't answer my question, Lord Kaname." Ruka wasn't trying to make it sound rude. "I just want to know why you can't let her go. It isn't right for a Pureblood of such high stature to focus on a human girl. Now, are you planning to change her or not?" Her emotional pain was causing her to sound rude.

Maia looked up as Takuma entered. She sighed and nodded. "Yes, I am worried," she confessed. "I mean, I know we're both here still and he didn't take either of us with him...but...things didn't exactly go smoothly tonight," she said. All she had wanted was a nice dance with some nice people, and the night had turned into this slightly-less-than-disastrous evening.

Kaname's garnet eyes shifted to the female vampire. She obviously wasn't going to let this go. It wasn't in his nature to tell others his plans, but Kaname folded his arms as he turned to her. She would know soon enough, he figured. All of them would know- the Night Class members, and even Yuki herself. Kaname noticed the sunlight out of the corner of his eye and then saw Yuki walking toward the town, and the Headmaster running after her. Kaname knew where they must be going. There was no going back now. "She's not a human," he told Ruka.

"Yes, I noticed that as well, Maia. We're both here. We should be happy." Surely Kaname was able to convince Grandfather Ichio that they were safe and that he would protect the Night Class. "And, you're right. Things didn't go smoothly. They aren't going smoothly even now. Yuki is going to find the truth, soon." Of course, Takuma already knew the truth, having driven to Cross's home with Kaname in tow, waiting in the car. "Ichio was correct. There is always a great danger as vampires."

Ruka watched them too. "I mean no disrespect, Lord Kaname. You know that, but I must disagree. Yuki looks human to me. She attracts vampires every time she is foolish enough to come here." Kaname was trying to say something, Ruka knew, but she still didn't understand.

Yuki walked even faster, ignoring her father's cries for her to come back. "Hurry, Headmaster! I think I see the building!" She pointed to the enormous building at the end of the rows and rows of shops. She made it there long before Cross. "So, where do we go to figure this out?"

"Yuki! You can't just walk into the Association like that without me-" the Headmaster cried, still lagging behind his daughter. Upon their arrival, he straightened his posture and acted more professionally as he explained that they would need to see the archives and search for the Hunters records from ten years ago. "This way," he told the girl, gesturing to the right direction and taking this task much more seriously now.

Kaname wasn't prepared to reveal Yuki's true identity to Ruka, not before all of the other Night Class members were allowed to know as well. The sunlight burning through the glass pane grazed Kaname's skin unpleasantly. Such a beautiful heavenly light shouldn't make him feel so weary, he thought briefly. Indeed, it would be unusual for Yuki to walk around so freely in the daylight and attract vampires with her blood if she was not human. But to Kaname, she was the true sun. She was radiant, and her touched gave him life unlike the harsh solar being. "You should rest now, Ruka. I will need to call on you soon," Kaname said, not looking at the female and clearly dismissing her before his weariness made his patience run thin. "Also, please tell Ichijo that I wish to see him."

"Right, sorry, Headmaster." Yuki could hardly contain her excitement. As they reached the archives and began the search, Yuki found evidence of the headmaster's former occupation. "Two Level E vampires executed in April." She was confused. "Um, Headmaster? Why is this here?"

Ruka, though frustrated, wasn't allowed to show it to the Pureblood. "Yes, Lord Kaname." She bowed to the gorgeous man and left to find his vice president. "Takuma." She knocked on Maia's door, smelling them both inside. "Maia, may I come in?" Lord Kaname needs Takuma."

Takuma put the picture away. "Well, I'm glad that I'm here to make you more comfortable." He pat Maia's back, preparing to take blood from her, having not had any since before the dance, but stopped as Ruka knocked. He closed his eyes. "Sorry, Maia."

"Oh dear, those records are from sixteen years ago!" the Headmaster panicked. "Um, I- er...you see..." he tried to think of an explanation, but there really wasn't much he could do. With a sigh, the man adjusted his glasses and admitted his past. "You see, Yuki...I was a hunter. I haven't been for a long time now, but I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want you to think ill of me." He set down a stack of books, moving the ones she had been previously looking at. "Here. These are the records from ten years ago."

Maia looked away as she felt Takuma about to take her blood. Although the knock on the door startled her, it also made her feel a little relieved. It's not that she minded giving him blood, but it still felt a little weird sometimes- like having someone inside you, peeking into your soul. Maia quickly stood and opened the door to acknowledge Ruka and let Takuma out.

Kaname waited for the vice president's arrival. He didn't have much to say, to be honest. He just wanted to confirm that the blonde was aware of their situation. The Senate was bound to get involved soon, so they would probably be hearing from Ichio again. Kaname could feel an unpleasant presence hanging in the air. It wasn't very strong yet, and the other vampires shouldn't be able to feel it yet. But Kaname's ties to the beast-like man were stronger than most, except for maybe Senri. After all, they were related.

"It wasn't hard to figure out. You gave Zero the Bloody Rose. You brought another hunter in to teach students." Yuki pointed out. "And, remember the bracelet?" Once she was done, she flipped through the book and was about to read it when it caught fire. She screamed and fell back.

Ruka smiled at Maia, obviously hiding how upset she was as she spoke to the boy. "Takuma, Lord Kaname wants to see you, right now." She wiped her face, having choked on the Pureblood's name.

Takuma stood. "Yes, of course. Thank you, Ruka." He moved past the girls with a whispered "I'm sorry" to his cousin. He took a deep breath, knocked, and opened the door, bowing at once, standing straight, and speaking. "Yes, Lord Kaname? You wished to see me? If this is about Ichio again, I'm sorry. He was out of line."

"Er...really?" Headmaster Cross scratched his head, surprised at how calmly Yuki had responded to his confession. It was a bit relieving that she didn't seem to think anything of it. Just then, flames lit up in his vision. "Yuki!" he called, catching the girl before she hit the ground and pulling her back, away from the fire. "Are you alright?" he asked quickly.

Kaname turned toward Ichijo when he entered the room. "There's no need to apologize," the pureblood spoke patiently. "There was nothing you could have done." Kaname stared down at the chessboard for a few moments before continuing the reason as to why he called for his vice president. "You are aware of what is soon to come, correct? In that case, just know that we will likely have to face your grandfather again soon, and it may not be as friendly as either of us would like. Also, I will put Yuki under my protection within the next few days. I would rather her be in my care than under Zero Kiryu's watch, since that creature has his own part to play." Kaname looked Takuma in the eyes as he spoke his next words. "The two of us may need to do things that we cannot ask each other about for sake of time, but just know that I trust you, Takuma. I ask that you trust me too."

"Yeah, I'm f-fine...it just caught f-fire when I started r-reading it." Her hand covered her mouth while she waited for the smoke to clear. "I told you it was useless for you to come here for answers when Kaname clearly told you that you would receive the answers soon." A familiar voice was behind them. Zero had returned from his mission with Yagari. "Zero, what are you doing here? You should be at school." Yuki told the silver haired vampire, who smirked. "Well, I heard you were here and thought you needed more help." Yuki smiled at him. "No. I don't need...who would do something like this?"

"Lord Kaname, of course I trust you. I've trusted you since we were kids." He inhaled, then exhaled. "What do you need me to do? Concerning Yuki, I mean?" Many things went through his mind, most of them obvious. "And, how can you protect her if you're on a completely different schedule than hers?" The whole vampire/human timing sounded like a problem. "Perhaps you could have Zero watch her during the day?"

The Headmaster furrowed his eyebrows. Indeed, something truly strange was going on here. He looked up as Zero joined them. "That page...that was the one that recounted that night ten years ago, wasn't it?" the Headmaster sighed. "Well perhaps we should return to the Academy now. I'm not sure if there's really anything else to help us here. What do you think, Yuki?" The man could only imagine the amount of stress the girl was feeling, and if her memories started to return, he wasn't sure what fragments she would see or how much it would hurt. Yuki's past...it was covered in blood.

Kaname nodded at Takuma's words. "Yes, I suppose it would be impossible for me to keep watch over her at all times, but I will think of something if possible. However, I know Zero will not betray her so for now, it should be safe if only he is protecting her." Kaname looked at the other vampire thoughtfully. "I suppose there is nothing for you to do at this moment. Just be on your guard and prepare for what is to come," Kaname warned. "Also, do keep an eye out for your cousin. I don't doubt her good heart, but compared to the others I know the least about her since she has not been with us quite as long." The dorm president thought of the weeks to come. "Soon, we will have a short break, and Aido has offered us his estate to stay at. We will all go there, myself included. That will be all for now."

Zero nodded in answer to the man's question. "The very same, Headmaster." He leaned further into the wall, bored. "It's nice to see you again, sir. Yuki." He added with a soft smile. Yuki smiled at him. "Yeah, we should all go back home. There's...there's nothing we can do. There are people that I have to talk to about this." Just then, her head started hurting and her knees gave out as she saw a vision of a man and a woman, who seemed to be talking to her. A little girl giggled and the door to her left opened. Yuki felt a sense of excitement and then the vision ended.

Takuma bowed. Though the two had known each other for years, hundreds, even, he still felt almost intimidated by the brunette. "Yes, I will." He sighed and left the room. "Well, that was very strange. He's never been so withdrawn with me. We've been best friends for a long time." Senri looked up from his place in the commons area. Something was almost off about him, but Takuma couldn't figure out what.

Headmaster Cross nodded gravely. It seemed that there was more than just himself and Kaname Kuran that tried to keep Yuki from knowing the truth. The fire was frightening, that was for sure. The man led the way out of the Association but then noticed Yuki struggling and her knees trembling. "Yuki!" Although she seemed consumed in her own thoughts, the Headmaster still tried to get through to his daughter, waving his hands frantically in front of her face and gently shaking her shoulders as he kept her from falling.

"Thank you," Kaname told Takuma before he left the room. The pureblood looked at the chessboard. The white and black pieces were all lined up, save or a few that had not survived this far. The male vampire could sense Yuki's presence nearing the school, though she was still rather far away. He assumed she would come and visit tonight, still curious about her past and stubbornly unrelenting with her questions. Kaname ran a hand through his hair sadly as he remembered Haruka and Juuri- how much they had sacrificed for him and especially Yuki. There was no way he would let their efforts go to waste. Yuki would be his, and Kaname was sure he would not let Rido escape this time.

"What? Oh, sorry, Headmaster." Yuki shook her head. "Who were those people? I've...I've seen them before." She whispered to herself as she took her father's hands from her. "I'm alright. Let's keep going. Being in town makes me nervous." Zero sighed. "I thought you got over that fear." Yuki shook her head at that. She was only confident in town when Kaname was able to protect her. Soon, they were home again. Without warning, Yuki waved goodbye to the males and yanked the gate of the Moon Dormitory open. The creepy doorman took one look at her. "Disciplinary Committee. He's expecting you." Yuki was surprised by that. The door came open and she jogged inside. "Senri, where's Kaname?" She watched the model mess with his hair. "He's in his office. Haven't you bugged him enough for the week?" Yuki ignored him. She was never very close to Shiki, but their relationship would soon become clear. Yuki didn't bother knocking this time. "Kaname, I need to know. Now! What happened? Why did a book in the archives catch fire?" She launched herself at him. "Please, I can't stand it! What are you hiding from me?" She was so close to tears. "Please, Kaname." She choked as she buried her face in his chest.

Kaname was expecting Yuki to come searching for him, but he had not expected her to just barge in through his door without knocking. With a harsh look, he turned swiftly toward the sound of the opening door, but his gaze softened when he saw the state that Yuki was in. Though she was reasonably upset, he didn't exactly enjoy her yelling at him or accusing him, no matter if her statements were true or not. "You make me not want to answer you when you act like this. You're so scary," he said before a light impact hit his firm body. Kaname blinked, surprised yet again as Yuki clung to him. He could feel just the slightest bit of moisture on his shirt...was she crying? Kaname sighed and gently brushed his fingers through her hair in attempt to calm the upset girl. "You know how I feel about you...about us...don't you?" he asked quietly. "I may not have said it out loud before, but I'm saying it now." Kaname pulled back from Yuki and raised her chin with the tip of his fingers, forcing her to look into his eyes. "Yuki, I love you. So please, don't make me suffer like this forever. I will protect you, and I will never leave you. So please...won't you be my lover?"

((My favorite part! Well, top three. Oh my God!))

Yuki's body seemed to be working of its own accord when she slammed into the man. "I can't take being in the dark like this anymore." She whimpered. "My whole life is one big mystery because I don't know who I am." His touch was like heaven to her. As she looked into those deep, saddened eyes, she saw everything that had happened to her since five. He was always there. Even when he would leave after his visits, he stayed there. "Kaname, what you're asking me to do is almost impossible to actually get away with without drawing so much attention to either of us." Her delicate fingers wrapped around his wrist. "Yes, I will be your lover, but remember that Zero still needs me and I won't leave him. I'm glad vampires find my blood delicious. That means that I can save him, which I'll continue to do until I die. Tell me, if I become your lover, will you tell me the truth?" Her hands cupped his head. "Please, Kaname."

"Yuki..." Kaname said. There was a hint of sadness in his voice- he was sad to see her so distraught. Really, it did make him want to share his knowledge with her, yet, it was more than she could handle at the moment. His eyes looked at her, filled with passion and patience. Sometimes, it was all Kaname could do not to turn her into a vampire...he wanted to be with her desperately; he had waited ten long years for this to come. "I understand," he said once Yuki told him that she needed to be there for Zero as well. Although he hated the fact that she did so much for that man, he respected Yuki for her sacrifice- the need to protect someone was something he could fully relate to. Kaname couldn't hate Yuki for that, in fact, he could never hate Yuki at all. "Yes," he promised. "I will tell you soon. But please, for now, let me watch over you. Let me be there for you. Even if you don't feel as strongly about me, it's all I've ever wanted- to be someone you can feel safe with."

(I like that part a lot too. Unfortunately I won't be replying to any of my RPs again until Sunday night when I get home, I apologize.)

Yuki smiled and dropped her hands from his face. "I already told you that I would be your lover, but I don't want you to be put in danger when you're protecting me from whatever it is." She wiped her face with her sleeve. "I want you to be happy, Kaname." She backed away from him, slowly, as if she were thinking as she did so. "You know that I've always felt love for you. Don't ever think that I don't." She was afraid to kiss him again, thinking about what Senri had said about bothering the Pureblood. "I just don't want even more attention to be drawn to us. You're...well, I don't know how the Day Class would put it, but you draw the most attention. Not long ago, I was told that I only got attention because of my father. That's the only reason you let me come." She walked toward him again. "I don't want to overstep my boundaries, but, I'll do anything for you. If you want to protect me, fine, but don't put yourself at risk." She heard the lock on the door click and she opened it.

Kaname was truly touched by Yuki's words. No one had ever said anything so good and true to him before, and she was the only one who would be able to do it at all, he knew. She was right about drawing attention, but Kaname was willing to do anything to protect her. In fact, he already planned that he would have some of the Night Class students watch over her during the daytime. He was a bit sad to hear and see how the other Day Class students treated her, but it was all the more proof that she didn't belong with them, she belonged with him. Kaname sensed a bit of hesitation as she went to leave, but he swiftly stood and wrapped his arms around her once more, placing a gentle kiss on her head before releasing the girl. "Thank you, Yuki," he said. "You're the one- it's you who makes me happy."

If there was ever a time during this meeting that Yuki's face was scarlet, it was now. "I love you, Kaname." She laid her head against his chest for a long time. "I always have. I hope you realize that." She was always destined to be with him, something in her heart told her that this was true. "You were there, in that room." The vision from earlier had come back, but this time, she got to see who opened the door. She got to feel the childish joy and little hands wrap around him for some time, before they let go to make way for they man and woman in the room. Yuki shook her head. "I can't hear them talking, but they were definitely talking to you. They both looked worried about you, though." Again, she sighed. "It's morning. You should probably get some sleep." She turned to leave.

Kaname brushed back some of Yuki's hair. What exactly...what was she remembering? he wondered. Though he knew she was right about one thing- he was there. Of course he would have been there- he had always been there, even when she couldn't see him. Every minute of the past ten years had been difficult for Kaname; it was painful not to be around Yuki. She was his comfort, and without her...the world just seemed like a truly dark place. As Yuki continued, Kaname realized she must have remembered Haruka and Juuri. The man smiled sadly as he recalled their loving parents who sacrificed all they had. I'm sorry I couldn't protect her before, but I won't let you down this time... Kaname promised silently. "Thank you, Yuki," he said as she left the room. However, Kaname knew he wouldn't get any sleep that night.

Yuki crept quickly and quietly from the room, from the whole building, hoping that she could get out safely. Aido would have learned his lesson by now, and the others weren't as, well, dumb. "Bye!" She waved from the front lawn, seeing a shadow in the window. After that, she yawned. "Thankfully, it's still a holiday." She remembered. She would still have duties, but that would mainly be keeping the fangirls from the vampire property. "Now, I have about two days before I'm harassed about this whole Kaname lover thing." Oops, she didn't realize she was overheard. "You?!? Why is it always the Disciplinary Committee?" Girls squealed. Yuki just tucked her head to her chest and walked on. This was bad. Very bad. She was out in the public eye again.

To be honest, there wasn't much for Kaname to do by himself. Most of what happened now would depend on the pawns he had set into place. He could give instructions, and each of their moves was predictable. Kaname counted on such things that would go according to his plans, and so far, he had not been wrong. Kaname didn't want to move things along too soon either- much of what happened would depend on how quickly Yuki's memories would return to her. The man would do what he could for now. He approached Aido and Akatsuki and asked that they protect and escort Yuki to her classes once things got back to normal, since she was now his lover. He felt a female presence might also do her good, so Kaname also asked Maia to watch over Yuki. He hoped the naive female would be able to do such a task; if not, he would ask Seiren. Kaname then decided he should do something nice for Yuki, perhaps planning a picnic would make her happy.

As she journeyed to the school library to catch up on her mountain of homework, Yuki could still hear girls wailing because Yuki was dumb enough to say something out loud about this. "Well, this turned out nicely. I've already got people upset about this." The only way she could get this to stop was to reject Kaname, but, it wasn't their decision on who Yuki saw, and, well, after all those things Kaname said, she couldn't reject him. "Yuki, what's wrong?" The librarian asked, to which Yuki smiled at her, clearly guilty. "Oh, it's nothing." She admitted. Of course, all the staff knew about the students in white. The librarian could know that Yuki had just come from their dorm. "Well, don't stay here and get yourself sick if you feel that way, dear." The kindly lady told her. Yuki nodded again. "I know. I won't." And, with that, she returned to her studies. Later, at home, Yuki sat in the tub, mulling everything over. "Yes, Kaname." She leaned her head back as she sat in the tub.
