Music of the Knight

Kaname nodded, glad that Yuki was being so cooperative. He only hoped that Ichio would treat her with respect rather than scorn for her being a human. Kaname would not be so tolerant of such a thing, should it happen. He stiffened as he heard the sound of a carriage quickly approaching. He removed his own mask as well, shaking his dark hair free of the string that had held the mask in place. Kaname placed the mask on a small table near where Yuki sat and prepared to greet the guest. "Where are-?" he started, looking for the cousins but soon seeing them joining the group. He shot everyone a look that told them to be on their best behavior.

Immediately, Takuma grabbed Maia's hand, squeezing it as the tall, blonde, earring clad vampire entered the room. By looking at him, there was no way anyone could tell that he was a vampire, let alone a grandfather or even a senator, for crying out loud. Still, he was a very high ranking vampire, directly under the Purebloods. "Grandfather." Takuma gasped, an air of fright about him. "Welcome to Cross Academy."

Yuki also looked up, curious as to why Takuma sounded so anxious. Wasn't this his grandfather? Surely Ichio Ichijo was as kind and accepting toward humans. She gave the cousins a look of understanding, then returned her gaze to the floor again, praying that she didn't stand out. "Senator Ichijo, how nice to see you." Senri smirked at him, knowing the history between the two families.

"I'm glad to see you made it safely," Maia said with a respectful bow. She gave a kind smile to the older man as she straightened up again. "Indeed, we are glad you have taken the time to come and visit us, Senator Ichijo," Kaname spoke up as he stepped forward from the crowd. "Please, come in and have a seat if you like." The older, stern-looking male showed almost no emotion as he entered the Moon Dormitory main floor where all of the vampires were gathered. "Lord Kuran," Ichio greeted the pureblood with a bow. "I appreciate your willingness to have me. However, I don't intend to stay long. I just came to check up on a few things," he said, looking pointedly at Takuma and Maia.

(Feel free to take over for Ichio too! If you wanted to play him, he's all yours- I wasn't sure what else to say without speaking for him so yeah ^^)

((Yay! I didn't want you to have to play everyone!))

Takuma copied Maia, bowing to the new arrival quickly as he released his grip on her shoulder. He behaved in a completely different way from his normal attitude, especially when his family was around. Ichio was just so intimidating toward just about everyone. "Grandfather, really, there's no need to worry about us. Headmaster Cross set these rules so that humans and vampires could coexist peacefully." Takuma smiled nervously. Ichio listened, only half heartedly. "We'll see, Takuma." He spoke with an air of annoyance toward the young vampire. "Still, seeing as I came here on my son's request, I have no choice but to examine this philosophy closely." Immediately, the scent of a human attacked the Senator's nostrils. Yuki scooted more toward the far end of the couch, keeping an eye on Kaname. Don't let him touch me, Kaname. She begged the Pureblood, but Ichio waved her off almost immediately. Now wearing a grin, he opened his arms. "Maia, what's wrong? Have you forgotten your hug?"

The female vampire had refrained from embracing Ichio in case he wouldn't welcome it, but seeing as her cousin had done so and then hearing Ichio's question, Maia shook her head with a smile. "Of course, not!" Maia smiled cheerfully, quickly hugging her older relative. He wasn't very warm- not like Takuma, or even Senri...as she had noted earlier in the evening at the dance. Still, Maia hoped that she would one day see Ichio smile.

Kaname kept an eye on Yuki and took a subtle step between her and where Ichio stood. He didn't want to draw too much attention to her, but he didn't like how this was making her uncomfortable. Really, she should have known better than to come back to the Moon Dorms when she still belonged to the human world. However, Kaname was prepared to explain her presence if the Senator should ask. "Well, is there anything I can do for you?" Kaname asked the solemn man.

As Kaname shielded her, Yuki couldn't help but feel more drawn to the shaggy haired brunette. She was even comfortable enough to move toward the Pureblood. She was safe, she knew that. "It's nice to meet you, Senator Ichijo." Yuki smiled at him, though her face remained hidden behind Kaname's broad shoulders.

As Takuma stood by to allow Maia a hug from their grandfather, the blonde was put a little more at ease, seeing as Kaname was taking control of the situation. "Yes, why are you here, Grandfather?" He asked. Ichio rolled his eyes. "Always so eager to get right down to business, aren't we?" He eyed Kaname. "Just like when you were a boy and refused to allow me as your guardian. As for my reasoning, am I not allowed to see my grandchildren whilst I investigate the Level E that was here not a few days ago?" Yuki immediately reached under her dress for her weapon.

Maia pulled away and stepped to the side so Ichio could speak with their pureblood leader. Although the elder of the two men seemed to have more authority, Maia knew that everyone respected Kaname Kuran- respected and feared him. He held so much more power than even a Senator. Maia suddenly realized she had been holding her breath a little. To be honest, this visit made her nervous. She hoped that everything went smoothly; she didn't want to have to leave Cross Academy, but if Ichio found anything he disliked about the situation, she wasn't sure how patient he would be.

Kaname chuckled. "It was not my intention to tell you what you should do," he told the man. It was true that Kaname was trying to hurry things along since he wasn't a fan of leisurely visits from outsiders. He was not very pleased with the Senator's presence, especially with Yuki still around. He didn't fear so much that Ichio would harm her as he might make her feel inferior, which she most certainly was not. "Word travels quickly, I see," Kaname said when Ichio spoke of the Level E attack. "I will tell you what I can, but I'm afraid there isn't much to say. Thankfully, our guardians here at Cross Academy took care of the creature before any real damage was done."

Ichio allowed the child to step aside, much to the relief of Takuma, who had also been holding his breath behind the group. He was even more relieved when Ichio's hand left Maia's shoulder to move hair from the vampire's face. Ichio's eyes narrowed. "Guardians? What is this nonsense?" He turned, confused, toward Takuma and Maia. Yuki stood, Artemis in her right hand. "Yes, Mr. Ichijo, and it's not nonsense. The Headmaster invented this at the Hunters Association." She held her weapon out to him, but jerked it back when he wanted to take a closer look. "Sorry, but I can't let you touch it. It shocks vampires." Ichio smirked and cleared his throat. "Has this been used on anyone here?" Yuki darted her eyes toward Kaname and Takuma, the only two vampires she could remember using it on. She couldn't lie to the Senator. "Yes, sir." Takuma winced. He knew that Yuki just ruined any chance that he and Maia had of staying here at school. Ichio tilted his head. "Oh, and who were the unfortunate vampires that experienced this?" Again, Yuki couldn't lie. "Kaname...and Takuma."

(Don't worry dear, I love how you're playing Ichio. I just forgot about this situation and was like O.o well darn, how can we talk our way out of this one? So it was a good twist!)

Kaname stiffened as Ichio turned to Yuki. He had hoped they wouldn't engage in too much conversation, but so far Yuki seemed to be handling it well. That is...until Ichio wanted to know about Artemis. Kaname respected Yuki's honesty, but now came the dilemma. "I-It was an accident, though, right?" Maia's light voice piped up. "At least, I thought that's what I heard anyways. When Takuma and Lord Kaname went to help Yuki with the Level E, she accidentally struck them too. At least...that's what I thought..." the blonde female offered, trying to ease the tension. Kaname glanced at Maia, then at Takuma, and finally at Yuki. Ichio's questions still seemed directed at Yuki...so he figured it would be best to let her handle it for a moment. After all, he figured she should learn how to speak with older and important figures in their society, since she would one day be a art of it. The pureblood set his gaze on Yuki from where he stood behind Ichio. I'm trusting you, his gaze seemed to say.

Yuki nodded immediately to Maia. "Of course it was an accident. I would never use this to hurt anyone here unless they were attacking a human." For the first time, Yuki felt her knees buckling. "Grandfather, perhaps I should take you to see the headmaster, now? He would want to know that you've arrived." He now stood in between the both of them. "You're right. Perhaps it is good that I go see him about these attacks." "One attack." Yuki corrected. Ichio cast her a deadly glare. "Watch your step, human." He sauntered after Takuma. Yuki shivered, disgusted. "Kaname, are you alright?" She hugged him, praying that he was. "He didn't touch you, did he?" She then turned toward Maia. "Thanks for your help, Maia. I understand why you got so nervous now. I was a little freaked, myself."Yuki actually giggled.

Maia breathed a sigh of relief and kept smiling. "Oh good, then no harm done!" she said quickly before it was decided that Ichio would pay a visit to the Headmaster. She watched as her cousin left with their unwaveringly serious relative and hoped that everything would go alright. Once they were gone, she turned and sighed. "I mean, I'm sure he means well...he just...doesn't have the friendliest personality," she agreed with Yuki. "Forgive us, and him please, Lord Kaname." Maia bowed to the Dorm President.

Kaname nodded at the blonde vampire. "It's nothing to apologize for," he told Maia before looking down at Yuki. He was a little surprised that she would dare to be so affectionate in the presence of so many Night Class members, but he didn't stop her embrace. Kaname gently touched her shoulders and then gently stroked her hair so she would look up at him. "You don't need to be worried about me," he smiled at Yuki. "I'm sorry you had to be here for this. As soon as the Senator leaves, I will escort you back to the Headmaster's so you can get some rest. Again, I'm sorry he was rude to you."

Realizing how very uncomfortable this was probably making the Night Class, Yuki let go of Kaname, but still stood close to him, catching Ruka looking quite irritated over in the corner. Yuki tried to ignore her, but it was becoming nearly impossible. "Oh, he didn't bother me. I'm sure it could have been a lot worse." Akatsuki gave her a look as if he agreed with that assumption. "It definitely could have been much worse, and, I'd appreciate it if you would put that thing away." He glanced down at Artemis. Yuki pressed the off button and strapped it against her leg again. "Sorry." She spoke softly, waiting for an opportunity to leave. "If you all don't want me around, I'll wait upstairs." Yuki walked past the vampires, went up the stairs, and to the left, knowing where Kaname's office was immediately. When she got to the huge, beautiful room, Yuki's jaw dropped. She had forgotten what the inside looked like. Now, she just sat alone on his bed, waiting.

Maia shrugged a little as Yuki left. The Artemis was a little scary, she had to admit, but she didn't think the vampires had any need to be afraid of Yuki. All she had ever been was nice to them. "Aw, don't make her leave...you know she wouldn't have done anything," Maia said before taking a seat on the couch. She sat there quietly and waited- she intended to stay there until Takuma and Ichio had returned. It was only polite to do so as a relative.

"Yes, I have no doubt we are all safe, even in the presence of that weapon," Kaname agreed. Still, he understood the aristocrats' nervousness as he remembered the weapon was painful. "I ask that none of you enter my room. You are to leave Yuki alone in peace," he ordered. If anything happened to her in this dorm, it would be on his hands, and Kaname could not allow it. "I will take her back to the Headmaster's place after our visitor leaves. You are all free to carry about your business," he said, dismissing the other Night Class members to do as they pleased for the remainder of the evening. The man cast a glance toward the office door and called for Seiren. "Yes, my lord?" she said with a bow. "Watch my room. Make sure that no one tries to enter. And make sure Yuki stays there." Kaname was regrettably unable to keep an eye on the room at all times with the visitor on campus. He only hoped the Senator would be satisfied and return home soon.

Yuki sat there, in relative calm, until she remembered that it was still dark outside, and there were vampires outside their dorm. "I can't just stay here. Even if Ichio and Takuma are still with the headmaster, I can't stay in here." She concluded. "I'm still the only Guardian on campus and I still have a job to do." She had faintly heard Kaname order Seiren to keep her in his room. "I can can't go out the door, I'll have to use the window." She rolled up her sleeves and took a running start to jump out the window and grab the tree branch. "Got it!" She exclaimed while dangling from the tree. "Sorry, Kaname. But, this is partially your doing. You along with my father appointed me Guardian. And I intend to uphold my position!" She let go and dropped to the grass on her butt. "Umph!" She grunted as she stood. "There's got to be an easier way to do this."

Maia sighed a little, still sitting on the couch as she waited for her family members to return. Tonight had been so lovely, and even Ichio's visit had not been so bad up to this point. Still, the girl found herself hoping morning would come soon so she could get some sleep. Maia actually rather liked sleeping- it made her feel at ease and relaxed. She closed her eyes for a brief instant and when she opened them, she saw Aido walking out the door. "Hey, Aido...where are you-?" Maia started but then she gasped. She smelled blood.

Kaname shook his head as he looked at Maia. She was strange for a vampire- sometimes he wondered if she really was one, since she acted fairly human. Kaname glanced toward his room where Seiren stood guard and considered Yuki's presence in his room. Perhaps he should at least go and say something to her. "I think I'll check on her," he told Seiren as he approached. Kaname hadn't noticed Aido's disappearance or the unsettling feeling that overcame the Night Class. At least, not until he opened the door to discover nothing but cold air. Yuki was gone, the window was open, and he could smell blood in the air. This was not good, not at all.

Yuki looked down at her hands as she slipped into the shadows. It was pointless, really. Kaname could see in the dark! Still, she wasn't going to allow the stinging in her hands to deter her from her work. Now, she was leaning against the building, biting her lower lip in an attempt to ease the pain. "He's gonna find me. He'll be so angry, but I can deal with that. Or...can I? He's always been there for me." Aido had his palm on the door when Maia had spoken. "Don't worry. I know that smell. It's truly sweet." He chuckled and opened the door. "It's Yuki's blood." The brunette froze where she was. "Aido." She didn't want him to alert Kaname. "Aido, go away." She started running toward her father's office, planning on waiting outside to escort the senator away from the campus.

Maia panicked for a moment after Aido left chasing Yuki. He wouldn't really...? No, he probably would. But then, Maia didn't really think running after him herself would be a good idea with Ichio still being here and her own inexperience with human blood. She wasn't craving it, but she was afriad of what might happen if she did get too close. The only thing Maia could think to do was tell Kaname. Although he had told them not to go into his room, she hesitantly made her way up the stairs. "Um...Lord Kana-"

"I already know." Kaname's response cut Maia short as he exited his room and descended to the staircase, quickly moving past the female vampire. "Stay here," he instructed. Kaname bit his lip and stared coldly into the night as he walked deeper into the shadows. Although she meant well, Yuki was always a bit reckless, and she had gone and done something without thinking it all the way through yet again. But Kaname would be there to look after her. Just like he always did. "Aido." The Dorm President spoke icily before slapping the blonde across the cheek. How dare he behave like this? First, it was against school rules. Secondly, Ichio would have a fit if something serious like a human getting bit happened during his visit. Finally, this was Yuki. Although she was human, she belonged to Kaname alone. Plus, if anyone knew her true identity...well, that would only further prove his exclusive rights.

Aido moved before Kaname ever came out onto the grass. He saw Yuki's blood stained hands and smirked, popping a blood tablet into his mouth. "These damned things aren't enough. And, you are qu-I wasn't doing anyth-ah!" Kaname had slapped the blonde at this time. He fell over and onto the grass. "Lord Kaname!" He looked up at the Pureblood from his spot on the ground. "I'm sorry! It truly isn't easy." He trembled on the grass.

Yuki saw all of this and held her palms to her chest. "Kaname, it wasn't his fault. I got cut, that's all. I sneaked out. I jumped out your window. I grabbed the tree." Though it was only a bit of blood, it still stung. "It was only an accident." She still held her palms to her chest while walking toward Kaname to lay her head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry. I should have listened to you and stayed inside. I just got worried because Takuma and Ichio haven't come back yet.""Yuki, there is no need to worry about us. We can take care of ourselves." Takuma's voice came from behind her, along with a strangled sound from Ichio at the sight of blood. "Lord Kaname." His eyes were like Christmas lights in the dark. "She's far too involved in the situation to remain human for much longer." The older male said through gasps.

Kaname glared down at Aido. "Really? It didn't look like you 'weren't doing anything' to me." Of course Kaname knew it wasn't "easy" but he expected better from these aristocrats. "Just go back to your dorm, Aido. This doesn't concern you anymore." Kaname noticed Ichio and Takuma approaching and prepared to explain things to them. Perhaps he would even have to protect Yuki if things got out of hand with them too, but he hoped it wouldn't come to that. "Yes, Takuma is right," Kaname said. "Yuki...you should have done as I asked you to. Everything I do is to protect you," the vampire said a bit wistfully. Kaname stared expressionlessly at Ichio. As he stared at the older vampire, he seemed to exchange a knowing glance with the man. Indeed, it did seem like things were starting to happen rather quickly all of a sudden. He sighed, "Yes, I suppose you may be right. The final act will soon be in play...but how about we call it a night?" He turned to Yuki. "Please return to your home and tend to your hands. You need to rest, Yuki. It's been a long night, and I need to show Ichio out."

Hanabusa struggled to stand. His legs had fallen asleep and he was still cowering from his president's power. "Y-Yes, sir." He bowed quickly, then glanced at Yuki. "Forgive me, Yuki. It won't happen again." Yuki just raised her brow as though she were confused. "Yeah, sure, Aido." She told the boy as he turned and headed back in to Maia. "Why on earth didn't you stop me, Maia?" He attempted to hide the man sized hand print on his cheek. "Was it really that hard?" When Kaname spoke of his own actions, Yuki nodded as if she were a child being scolded again. "I know, Kaname. I'm sorry." Ichio regained his composure as easily as his lord kept it. "That's good to hear, Lord Kaname. If my suspicions about you and that girl's importance to you are correct, I suspect that everyone will win out in the end." Takuma sighed. "We should at least tell Maia that you're leaving." His grandson suggested. The Senator nodded and walked toward the dorms. Yuki examined her hands for a time, until she heard her name. "But, this is my fault. I shouldn't have been around you and the other vampires. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. What was Ichio talking about just now? What's the final act?"

"I apologize for all of the unexpected conflicts tonight," Kaname told Ichio. "I hope that next time we meet, it will be on more peaceful ground." Kaname acknowledged the Senator and wished him safe travels. "Also, I would like you to know that Takuma has been a great help to me here. I am confident in his abilities to lead the Night Class when I am unable to. Maia has also adjusted well, and her peaceful nature is much appreciated here." The vampire spoke well of his classmates, in hopes of reassuring the older man before he left. Kaname brushed Yuki's hair back after the others had gone. "Yuki, all the questions you have, all the things you keep asking me to explain...they will be answered very soon. You might start to remember things, things you thought you had forgotten forever, and it might hurt. It might be difficult, but I will be here for you. Just come to me if it starts to be too much to bear." Kaname kissed the top of her head and turned away sadly, back to the Moon Dorms- to walls that separated him from her.

Maia shook her head, unsure how to respond to Aido. Had his behavior really been her fault? She felt guiltier than she thought she was supposed to feel, though. "Must someone always have to stop you?" she asked quietly. "Maybe...maybe you should learn to stop yourself." Maia looked away, feeling awful even as she said this. Thankfully, Takuma and Ichio returned, replacing the awkwardness with Aido with yet another awkward situation, but one she was at least prepared for. "You're leaving?" she asked. "Oh, well I'm sorry we didn't get to see more of each other. Please have a safe trip back," Maia said with a bow before hugging Ichio and hoping he had enough faith in Kaname and Takuma...and herself to let things stay as they were.

Yuki held onto Kaname for a long time. It hurt to see him go, and the look in his eyes was something that she had never seen before. He had always seemed so peaceful around her. Now, he looked upset and anxious. Yuki couldn't just leave him like that. "Kaname.." she hurried to the window to peek through it. Luckily, she saw Kaname inside, his back to the window. "Kaname, I'm so sorry." She felt that this was all her fault, especially when she saw Hanabusa rubbing his sore cheek. "Sorry, Aido." As she walked back home, alone, that night replayed in her head. "I owe Kaname so much, and yet, all I'm doing is hurting him." She made it to her couch, but that was it. "I want answers. I know what to do." She shuffled to her father's office. "Headmaster?"

As Aido rubbed his cheek still, he nodded at Maia. "If you saw me attempting to leave, with a bleeding human on campus, every Night Class student has an obligation to stop each other from biting that human. It's why we feed on each other." He groaned in pain. When Maia told him that he should stop himself, Hanabusa was on his feet in a second. "Don't have an attitude with me or I'll- Senator Ichijo." He bowed to the elder. Ichio smirked. "You'll do what, Hanabusa?""Nothing, s-sir." Aido dismissed the idea. "Good. I wouldn't want to have a discussion with your father about being here." He turned to Maia. "Unfortunately, dear, my presence may have caused quite a stir. I can see that I'm not wanted." He embraced her, shook Takuma's hand, and got on one knee in front of Kaname. "My lord, forgive that charade just now." He took Kaname's hand and brought it to his lips, to kiss it at first, then, his fangs slipped through. "Lord Kaname!" Ruka jumped between them, stopping Ichio, who got up, nodded, and left campus.

"Yuki, my precious daughter-!" the Headmaster grinned widely until he saw the expression on the girl's face. "What's the matter, Yuki? Did something happen?" he asked, a bit protectively as he remembered that the Senator had interacted with his dear daughter. Although he was fairly confident the Senator knew his place, the Headmaster wasn't sure he wouldn't say something to upset the girl.

"I'm sorry," was all Maia managed to say either to Aido or to her relative. It was so harsh to say his presence was unwanted, but in actuality, it was rather true. She sighed and stepped aside, letting the dorm president say his goodbyes. Kaname stiffened as he felt fangs break the surface of his skin. Though he made no move to stop Ichio, Kaname's expression tightened. Such a bold act was quite uncalled for and honestly rather inappropriate. Yet, he was a senator, and Kaname would still treat the man with respect even though he was the one with more authority. "Thank you, Ruka. There is no need to worry, though. No real harm has been done." Kaname watched as Ichio left and then retreated to his own room to be alone for awhile.

"I want answers, Father. Senator Ichijo talked to Kaname just now. Kaname said that the final act was soon to be in motion." She wasn't going to back down. Kaname might still treat her like that girl in the snow ten years ago, but she was fifteen years old and wanted to know who she really was. "I need you to take me to the Hunters Association tomorrow. I need to see the archives and figure out what happened to me ten years ago." She hoped her father wouldn't be hurt by this. "Father, you've done a lot for me, but it still bugs me that I can't remember my parents." She hugged him. "Please, Father."

Takuma had been holding his breath the entire time. "That was so close." He muttered as his hand covered his face, sweat finally gone, as was the anxiety. "How dare that boorish, brainless man do that to Lord Kaname!" Ruka had tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Maia. I just got so angry that I didn't know what to do or say." She followed Kaname up the stairs, but flew to her room instead, upset. Still, she thought of Kaname and how the meeting ended, and decided to visit the president. She knocked on his door.

The Headmaster's hand moved toward his glasses as he adjusted the frames on his nose. "I see," he said. The man sighed. He knew this day would come- the day when he would have to give up his precious daughter to another man. Headmaster Cross patted Yuki's shoulders as she hugged him. "Alright, Yuki. I'll take you tomorrow morning," he agreed. "But you'll have to be on your best behavior and try not to draw a lot of attention, okay? And you have to stay with me- you know how dangerous the town is."

Maia watched as Ruka left and just stared after the other, quite emotional, female vampire. "It's fine..." her voice trailed off before she turned to do something else, anything else. Maia could feel her spirits sinking- she didn't know if the visit had really gone so well at all. Maia thought about sitting out in the main room with the others, but then realized she didn't feel like talking to anyone, especially not Aido, and not even Takuma right now. Maia realized she was still in her party dress and figured maybe she should just go to her room and sleep, since morning would be here soon enough anyways.

Kaname heard the footsteps approaching his door and sighed a little to himself. He was deep in thought, and now wasn't exactly the best time to be talking to him, but Kaname did expect Ruka to come after him. She had always been infatuated with the pureblood, even though he would never return her feelings. Still, he would take care of her- all of the parents form the Night Class had entrusted their children under his care, so he couldn't be completely selfish and just ignore them for his own family. "Come in," he called through the door. He only hoped that Ruka would someday move on and find someone else, that she would understand that Kaname's heart had only belonged to one person for a very long time...
