Music of the Knight

Yuki looked through the window. Kaname wasn't alone, of course. He had the whole Night Class with him. Sucking in her gut, she had to do this. She knocked on the window. "Kaname." She muttered, practicing what she would tell him. "Kaname, I'll accept a dance w-no, that's dumb." She sighed, starting to pace. "Kaname, Haruna and I are going shopping for a dress, I have to go to the dance anyway, so it wouldn't be too weird for us to dance then." She laughed. "Yeah, that's right." She tapped on the window again.

Kaname looked up as he heard a knock on the window. For once, the all-knowing vampire was too consumed in his own thoughts to realize that Yuki had approached. Confusion graced his face for a brief moment, but then he got up and stared at her through the glass. He smiled and held up a hand. Before anyone could ask what he was doing, Kaname left the classroom without a word. The other Night Class students turned their heads in confusion as he exited. "Yuki," he said as he approached her. "What are you doing here? Is everything alright? Did something happen?" he said, quickly expressing his concern.

Yuki held up a hand when he did. This is it. She told herself, going over what she would say to him, even as he came to talk to her. "Kaname," she smiled at him as she tried to hide her bandaged neck from him. Did he see it? Will Zero be in trouble? She tried to play off messing with her hair as trying to get the tangles out. "Woah, Lord Kaname, slow down." She appreciated his concern. "Nothing happened. I'm alright." She promised. "I just came to talk to you about the dance." She leaned against the wall. "I guess, since I'm already going to be there on duty, that I could save a dance, if you still want to. Haruna and I are going shopping tomorrow morning."

Kaname did noticed Yuki's bandaged neck but decided not to say anything. He doubted she wished to talk about it, so he didn't want to push the matter. Kaname nodded when she said everything was fine. "Alright, good." He continued to stare at her curiously as she mentioned the dance. She had come all this way just to talk about it with him? Perhaps it really was important to her. Kaname smiled upon hearing her words, and he reached down and took her hand and kissed it gently. "I don't want to cause trouble for you as a guardian, but I look forward to seeing you very much," he said, his voice smooth and caring.

Yuki's blood rushed all the way up past her brows as the feeling of his lips graced her senses. "Well, I-I just hope that y-you don't mind my not knowing how to dance." She smiled at him. "It wouldn't be any trouble, Lord Kaname. It's just a dance and I don't care what people think about it." She grinned. "Though I'm not sure why Headmaster Cross decided to turn the dance into a masquerade." She shook her head. "Whatever, it's not my choice. He's just overexcited, I guess." Another thing that she'd have to find: a mask. "So, uh, I guess I'll see you then." There was no way that she wanted to leave him again. "You should get back to whatever it was that you were doing."

Kaname smiled. Her nervousness really was adorable sometimes. "Ah yes, how could I forget?" Kaname mused when she mentioned it was a masquerade. "Well, that should make things a bit easier for us then." He smiled mysteriously. "I'll find you, trust me. Even with a different face, I would know you anywhere." And with that, Kaname wished her a good night and left to return to class. He received some curious glances from the other Night Class students but knew they wouldn't dare question their leader.

Yuki smiled, rushing a bow as the man walked back inside. "Have a good night, Kaname." She told him, partially disappointed from the lack of a goodbye kiss, and made the long trek back to her bed. "Yes!" She whispered into the dark. "He'll go with me." She reminded herself that she still had to tend to her work at the dance, but she didn't care. Even as she went to bed, all she could think of was the dance, and how she would finally be able to touch Kaname without getting weird stares. "This couldn't be anymore perfect." She murmured as she rolled over and fell asleep.

Haruna rolled out of bed and took her time getting ready. It was finally the weekend, and the dance was drawing ever-nearer. Haruna still assumed that she would be on duty and therefore, didn't need a dress. Although she wasn't much for looking nice or going to social events, she was excited for Yuki, even if her date of choice was the pureblood Kaname Kuran. Haruna made her way toward the Headmaster's quarters to find out where Yuki was. She bowed when she saw the Headmaster, wishing him a good morning.

Yuki's father smiled up at her. "Hello, Haruna. I just told Yuki that she could continue with her Disciplinary Committee duties today." He was extremely happy to say so as he unwrapped Yuki's hands. The scars were minor and they would fade over time. "That's great, Headmaster." Cross's head hit the desk in disappointment. "It's Father." Yuki just stared at him, then Haruna. "Well, I'm all better and ready to go." She took her weapon back. It had been stored here in case she tried to work while she was hurt. "Let's go." She spoke with confidence to Haruna just as Zero walked by.

"Good to know you're all better now," Haruna told Yuki in response to the Headmaster's statement. She nodded when Yuki said she was ready to go. She tried not to laugh when Yuki didn't call him father like he asked. Haruna noticed Yuki retrieving her Artemis rod and subconsciously patted a couple places she hid her daggers. It could be dangerous in town sometimes, even in broad daylight, so it wasn't being overly cautious to take their weapons. "Alright, we'll be back later," she told the Headmaster with a wave. Haruna eye's connected with Zero's as they passed, and she gave him a slight nod of acknowledgement.

"Kaname, I think perhaps you should get some rest." Takuma smiled a friendly smile at the other vampire as they sat in his office. "I've taken up enough of your time. You want to look and feel your best with the dance coming up, right?" he said, giving him a knowing look. Kaname nodded. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to sleep a little," he agreed. "Thank you for your concern." Kaname closed the door behind the blonde and stretched out to get some sleep. True, he would be more pleasant if he was well-rested, and he didn't want to ruin anything for Yuki by being grumpy.

Zero seemed perfectly normal today, well, what normal was when talking about the guy. He jammed his fists into his pockets and groaned when he saw his partners. "Well, I'm guessing that I'll just spend the day in the library." He told them, knowing that they would be in town. "I don't see why girls make such a big deal out of this dance. It's just more praise for the Night Class." Yuki glared at him. "Shut up. That isn't true. They aren't even going to be acting up. They won't know who's who." Zero chuffed. "The guys still have to wear their uniforms, Yuki. It's a rule or something." Yuki hadn't thought about that as Zero left them as they passed the library.

Haruna shrugged. So maybe she wasn't a fan of this event herself, but she understood why it was important. You couldn't just forbid the Day Class students to interact with the Night Class forever- that wasn't coexistence, that was just living by each other without actually living with one another. Haruna thought it a little rude that Zero wasn't even pretending to be happy for Yuki, but then Zero never felt the need to hide his hatred for vampires. He did have a point about the uniforms though. However, Haruna remembered she would also be wearing hers. "If it's not a big deal, why do you seem so unpleased that we're going out?" she replied plainly before continuing to walk away from the male.

Zero heard Haruna's question and sighed as he stepped back out of the library to follow them off of campus grounds. "I'm not displeased about anything. I don't care or want to know what girls do on their own time." He glared at her. "And, you aren't getting a dress because?" He wondered aloud. "Even when on duty, like Yuki, you can still have a dress on." Yuki sighed. "We probably won't even find a dress in town any way." They left the main building and the Sun Dormitory behind. All they had left to get past were the vampires. "Hmmm, maybe...no." Yuki was going to go inside the Moon Dormitory for a minute to let Kaname know. But, the last time she set foot inside, she was scolded by the vice president.

Haruna glared back at Zero. "Why does it even matter? I won't be dancing, so there's no need for a dress." It's not like she had anyone to impress anyway, since no one asked her. That was completely fine with her- she would rather not have to worry about dancing or flirting or anything like that, so for once, she was happy to be a guardian. Haruna noticed Yuki staring over at the Moon Dorms and wondered what she was thinking. She was probably just anxious for the dance, she assumed. She had every right to be- between her feelings for Kaname and the fact that he was one of the most powerful beings alive...Haruna would've been anxious too.

Takuma actually had planned on asking Haruna, but, considering that he just offered to watch the Night Class while Kaname rested, he didn't get the chance. "Damn it." He murmured. "I should have asked her sooner. Well, I guess it.doesn't matter. I'll see her at the dance anyway." He smiled at the thought. Outside, Zero growled at her. "Don't give me that attitude! Just beat it before you get hurt!" He waved his fist at her. Yuki came out of her daze. "Zero!" She stopped him and hurried off with Haruna."

Haruna clenched her fists and thought about saying something smart back to Zero- gosh, sometimes he really drove her nuts. Who was he to talk about attitude? And what...now he was threatening to injure her or something? Haruna smirked. "I'd like to see you try," she called out over her shoulder before turning away, this time for good. She laughed slightly when Yuki scolded Zero. "It's okay, we only kid," she assured her friend. At least, Haruna hoped so. "Anyways, where do you want to start?"

"Well, isn't there only one dress shop in town?" Yuki asked as she looked back at the Moon Dormitory. Oh, how she wanted to see her childhood friend again, just once, before tonight. "We'll start there, and you'll look great, because I'm getting you a dress too." She smiled at her own little surprise. "You'll thank me later, when you're dancing with a cute guy." She led the way forward.

Haruna shrugged. "I don't get out much, and I've never needed a special occasion dress," she said, not really thinking about the fact there was only one dress shop in town. She shook her head at Yuki. "No thanks, I really don't think I need one. I don't really want to dance with anyone, and I don't think any 'cute guy' is gonna ask me. So uh...I'll pass." Haruna waved her hands in protest and just trailed behind Yuki as they started looking.

Yuki was somewhat disappointed. "That's upsetting, but whatever." Walking along the streets, she found the single dress shop in town and hurried inside before she was seen. "But, you should have seen the way Takuma was watching you when that Level E attacked. He was so upset." Yuki tried to persuade her to let her get a dress for her friend. "I think he likes you and I think you like him, but you don't want to admit anything because you're scared of rejection. Honestly, if you aren't getting a dress, why come with me?"

"What? I'm not scared of rejection!" Haruna exclaimed. Where had all of this come from? She barely knew Takuma Ichijo. "I mean, sure he's nice and all but I don't think of him that way..." Haruna continued protesting, "I don't think of anyone that way. I just wanted to be a good friend and help you find a dress since you seem so serious about Kaname and since I don't actually have any other friends.." Haruna trailed off, realizing she was probably sounding ridiculous. Haruna sighed. "Oh, never mind..." she said defeatedly.

Yuki hated being yelled at and she wasn't going to put up with this anymore. "I-I want to go home." She felt hot tears come to her and ran back down the street back into the school gate. "I'm sorry!" She kept this up until she was close to the school. She didn't want to be here anymore.

(So Haruna was um...never here because I don't feel like writing for her anymore. And we're done caring about Zero :P )

Kaname handed the box to the Headmaster. "Please give this to Yuki when she returns," he said. The Headmaster grinned and started chuckling like a child. "Will do, Kaname. But just remember, she is my daughter- so you better behave yourself. She's still in school, so I don't want any grandchildren!" Kaname stared blankly at the man and shook his head, not saying another word before walking off. The Headmaster always overreacted. Kaname slipped back to the Moon Dorms, not caring as much for the daylight. However, he wanted to make sure Yuki got the dress he picked out for her. I hope she likes it, he thought.

Maia yawned as she walked down the stairs to the open room where the other vampires who were awake at this hour were hanging out. Strangely enough, Maia rather liked the daylight, but that didn't mean she didn't have vampiric sleeping patterns. "Morning, Takuma." Maia smiled and greeted her cousin, taking a seat next to him. "What are you doing? Is that a manga? Are you looking forward to the dance?" she asked, a little too awake for this time of day.

Yuki sighed, returning from her useless rendezvous in town. "Not a single store was open." She blew her hair from her face, feeling frustrated and rather defeated. "That couldn't have gone worse. At least I wasn't attacked this time. Level Es are everywhere." She shook her head and went to tell her father that she was back. Yuki was only just around the corner from his office when she spotted Kaname coming toward her. "What's he doing here?" She asked aloud. "And what was he talking about with the Headmaster?" Trying to be nonchalant, Yuki sucked in a breath and walked toward her father's office, looking down at her feet the whole way and praying that Kaname didn't notice her spying.

Takuma laid his left arm on the back of the couch around Maia's shoulders. "Hello, Maia, how are you?" He reached forward with the free hand and stroked her hair, but never wavered from his book. "Did you sleep well, dear?" He finally gave up and put the novel down. "You've adjusted well." He laughed at all the questions. "Yes, I'm definitely looking forward to the dance, are you?" He kissed the top of her head. "It scares me to see how much you've grown."

Kaname glanced at Yuki as she passed, but he didn't engage in conversation. She didn't look like she wanted to talk. Kaname continued on his way, not reavealing any details to her anyways- he wouldn't want to ruin the surprise. He smiled a little to himself until he thought about where Yuki was coming from. Had she just gone to town by herself? The town was crawling with Level E's. Kaname frowned a little, not happy with the idea that she was so vulnerable. Of course, she had her weapon, but sometimes it wasn't enough.

Maia smiled at Takuma's friendly gestures. "Hm..." she pondered for a moment. "I think I am looking forward to the dance. I've never gotten to interact with humans until I came here. It's all so interesting!" she said. Maia had enrolled in Cross Academy earlier in the year, but she was still adjusting to the different setting the school provided. Never before had she been around so many students her age, and she found it quite exciting.

Yuki smiled when she got to her father's study and opened the door. "Headmaster?" She spoke up finally. "Headmaster, I came back." Mr. Cross looked up from the package on his desk. "Yuki, welcome back." He scooted the little package forward. "Someone left this for you while I was out myself." He lied, not wanting to give away any surprises that the Pureblood had planned. Yuki stared at the package, but there was no signature. "I don't get any gifts. I don't know anyone outside the school." The man shrugged. "Well, I just found it."

Takuma smiled, hugging her. "Well, I just want to remind you who's in charge here." He murmured. "You must be very careful when it comes to being around the humans." He tilted her chin up to look her in the eyes. "They can't know about us and you can't tell them. Your parents wanted me to look after you and that's what I plan on doing."
