Music of the Knight

Yuki, now having two people breathe down her neck about this blood, saw no use in arguing. Damn it. None of this would have happened if I didn't freak out when that vampire came. Having no choice in the matter anymore, Yuki agreed. "Fine, let's go back. I guess you and Zero could handle this." She indicated the classroom behind her. The students inside were growing frantic from the smell. When Kaname asked her if she would like to meet him inside, she nodded slowly. "I couldn't stop you if I wanted to." She smiled at him. "But, for now, I'll go." She bowed to him once, her head rushing. She was starting to feel woozy, then, Kaname mentioned telling her father. "No!" She pleaded. "If he finds out, he won't let me come back!" She gripped his white uniform, staining his shoulders with her red blood. She was so embarrassed that she immediately let go. "I'm sorry."

Kaname put an arm around Yuki's shoulder and began to walk with her, guiding and steading her gently. He turned to Takuma and asked him to handle the Night Class in his absence. Then, he turned his focus back to Yuki. "Your father has to know- this concerns the safety of the entire school, not just us. I don't think he will be upset with you. You did nothing wrong," Kaname assured her.

Haruna intended to go inside with Yuki until Kaname volunteered. She didn't really feel comfortable not going with Yuki, but they did need people to patrol the switch. And as much as Kaname made her nervous, he hadn't proved to be anything but helpful so far. "Yeah, sure, we can handle it," Haruna said. Her and Zero. Haruna rolled her eyes. More like just her, since Zero ran off again to who knows where.

Yuki had no choice but to lean against President Kuran as he led her away. But not before she managed to grab her weapon."I will, Lord Kaname." Takuma assured the brunette as he watched them go. "Don't worry about a thing. Hanabusa and Akatsuki will help me." He glanced at Haruna. "I'm sorry that you're alone as Guardian tonight, Haruna." He smiled at her. "I hope that I will be able to help you." Yuki spoke again. "But, he won't let me come back with this." She held out her hands for a second, revealing the cuts. "Oh, sorry." She hugged them close to her body again. "I'll help you with your jacket, if you need it."

Kaname chuckled as Yuki made a fuss over his jacket. It was so like her to be concerned about him, even when she was the one bleeding and he was unharmed. "It will come out," he assured her. "I'll take care of it later. I can take it to the cleaners this weekend." Kaname almost suggested she go with him into town, but he remembered he couldn't be showing too much obvious favortism toward the human female. Although the other vampires were realizing his special concern for Yuki, there were still boundaries that needed to stay in place most of the time. At least for now. "True, you might not be able to do your job for a couple days until the wounds heal, but I'm sure your fellow guardians will be just fine," Kaname said.

Haruna raised her eyebrows, supressing a laugh as Takuma mentioned that Hanabusa would help. Akatsuki, sure. Aido...seriously? Haruna shrugged. "It's no big deal. This switch isn't so bad normally, most of the Day Class students are still sleeping or just waking up anyways." Takuma was being quite kind, and Haruna didn't really know how to respond. She tugged at her braid a bit nervously. But why was she nervous? It's not like she felt threatened by him or anything.

"Well, I hate having my last name and not be able to do anything for the school that was named for my father." She had to think of some excuse other than the obvious: she wanted to be with Kaname. "That was dumb. I apologize." She smiled nervously. "Really, I don't know whether my mouth is even fully functional." Her eyes widened. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! She could picture Kaname's reaction already. "Yeah, Zero and Haruna will be fine, but, still, it isn't exactly fair." She stowed Artemis in the band around her leg. "I'm sure they will."

Kaien Cross was asleep at the moment. He had done so at his office desk, going over student records. "I hope this plan works, my friends. I'll do my best." He was talking to Lord and Lady Kuran. "She'll stay safe. I can promise that."

Takuma smiled at her nervousness. "I know, that's why I'm having vampires take over the switch this time." He chuckled and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Thank you." He returned to class.

Kaname felt a smile creep onto his face when Yuki started chattering. He shook his head slightly and squeezed her shoulder that he was still holding onto. "You're a very interesting girl, you know that?" was all he said. He led her to the clinic and asked her to wash off her hands as best she could. Kaname found some medicine and wraps and waited for Yuki to return before asking her to hold out her hands.

Haruna stiffened at Takuma's touch. She just wasn't a touchy-feely person in general. She watched as he left to return to his class. Takuma seemed to be genuinely nice. He was cute, for sure, but Haruna still frowned. There was no way she was gonna let the vampires just patrol the switch themselves. That wouldn't be doing her job.

Yuki obeyed. Every time she would rub the cuts, she would cringe, but wouldn't let on that it hurt, even after the soap was applied. "Well, I'm glad you think so, Lord Kaname." She smiled. She had him alone! Now was her chance to catch him, hopefully, off guard, as she held out her hands for him. "So, are you still not gonna tell me about that night? Or am I going to have to wait until later?" She tried to be as nice as she could.

Zero watched this happen and was irritated when, number one, Kaname left with Yuki and he could smell the blood, and two, when Takuma thought it was appropriate to touch Haruna. Finally, the blonde was gone. "Haruna, are you alright?" He stepped from the shadows, still smelling blood, having one of his own attacks, but couldn't let Haruna know.

Kaname gently spread medicine on the wounds and then wrapped her hands with gauze. "Is it too tight?" he asked. Kaname's hands were large compared to hers, but he had been careful not to injure her any further. "Yuki, you don't need to worry about such things as long as I'm here. For now, I just need you to be yourself." Kaname gestured for her to follow him out to see the Headmaster so they could explain what had happened.

Haruna turned, surprised to hear Zero's voice. Where did he come from? "Yeah, I'm just fine." She looked at him a bit suspiciously- for some reason she got the feeling he was the one who wasn't alright. "Well I guess Yuki might be out of duty for awhile," she said. "Looks like it's up to us to keep everyone in line." Not that they weren't capable of doing so. Haruna liked Yuki, but to be honest, she wasn't exactly the most authoritative person and the Day Class students tended to disregard her often.

Yuki squeezed her eyes shut tight, waiting for the burning sensation that normally came with ointments. But, there was none. Even when Kaname touched her, there was nothing that caused her any pain. "No, it's not tight at all, Lord Kaname." She smiled gently and took her hand back from him. "Look, I've been wanting to know this for years. There is no way that you could possibly have known that I was there unless you had something to do with how I got there." She got up and followed. "I'm not that scared little girl anymore and I want the truth." She was getting frustrated.

"Yuki's out for a while?" He wanted to lunge at Haruna right now. She was alone with him. He needed blood. "Look, where is she? I need to see her about something." He stepped closer, trying to find something in Haruna, a weak spot, maybe. "Please, hurry and tell me."

Cross heard his daughter and Kaname down the hall in the infirmary. "Something's weird." He sat up and waited for them to come in. "Yuki's late and Kaname isn't in class." He thought about what he was about to hear.

Haruna sighed. Of course he wanted to know where Yuki was. She was pretty sure there was something going on between them, just like there was something going on between her and Kaname. Though it seemed pretty clear where Yuki's affections were- at least, at the moment. "She went with Kaname to the infirmary and to see the Headmaster," she replied simply. "Look, I don't like it either, but I don't think he would hurt her, especially on school grounds." So Zero was gonna ditch their job too. Haruna didn't care that much- she hadn't expected him to show back up in the first place.

Kaname stood in front of the Headmaster's desk with a grim expression. "Headmaster Cross, a Level E made its way onto campus not long ago. Your daughter was injured in the fight. No one else was hurt, and I have disposed of the creature. However, it concerns me that it even got here in the first place." Kaname's dark eyes met the other man's. He had gotten straight to business. He knew that the Headmaster could act foolish and unperturbed, but this was not a joking matter. Not with lives at stake, especially Yuki's.

"Thank you." Zero groaned. He wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to hold it in. "Haruna, come here and close your eyes." He wasn't going to be able to make it to Yuki, and he wasn't going to lap up the Level E's blood like a dog, even though the vampire couldn't object. "Please, you have to trust me." He took her by the hand. "Please."

Cross knew that this wasn't a joking matter. He took one look into his friend's eyes, then his daughter's, and understood. "Where is the body? Is it dead?" He was asking either one, but Yuki answered. "Headmaster, it's dead. Kaname killed it. The body is still on school grounds." She was upset with Kaname for not telling her. "I will go out and help remove it. We'll send it to the Hunters for examination." Cross answered. "Kaname, please." Yuki grabbed his hand. "Just say something."

Kaname nodded at the Headmaster and thanked him. "I should return to the Night Class now," he said. "I left Ichijo in charge, but I have been away for quite some time. It's time we go back to the Moon Dorms." Kaname frowned slightly at Yuki's insistence. She obviously wasn't going to drop the subject anytime soon, but Kaname really didn't feel like addressing it right now. "Can't it wait?" he asked, his voice coming across a bit stern and chilly. "I think we've both had enough for one night. Please, let's rest and talk about it later."

Haruna didn't understand what Zero was saying to her or what he was doing. Trust him? Well, she didn't have any reason not to so far, but she wasn't exactly a trusting person in general. Haruna was shocked at how cold and pale Zero's hand was. She looked at him warily but didn't pull away just yet. "Zero...you don't look so well. Maybe you should go rest. It's okay, I'll take care of things here. Really, it's fine."

"You talk about me not being close to you like I was when I was five, but you still won't be open with me ab-" she saw her father hold up a hand and glared at him. "Headmaster." Cross held up his hand still. "Yuki, that's enough." He scolded. Yuki dropped her head and walked out.

"Haruna, I can't." Zero insisted. "Now, please shut your eyes and it'll be over quickly." He didn't wait for her to object. He dove, fangs first, into her neck, slapping his left hand over her mouth before she could say something. He continued for a few minutes. Yuki.could see this from the hallway. "Zero!"

Kaname could feel his patience wearing thin. Of course, she had a right to know. But was now really the time? Kaname had everything planned out according to his timing, and he didn't want to rush things. Perhaps she wanted to know, but he was afraid that she would push him away once she found out. Yuki...once I tell you everything, your life will never be the same. You won't be able to turn back or escape this cruel reality...

Haruna's eyes shot open, and she screamed. Not that anyone could hear her, though. What was happening? Why was Zero-? What should she do? What could she do? She had to stop him. But why was it so hard to resist? If she pulled away, he might think she was rejecting him as a person. But this had to stop. Haruna reached for one of her hunting knives and was about to strike his arm when she heard Yuki's voice. Now she really couldn't do anything to harm him.

Yuki had her face pressed against the glass. "Zero...what are you thinking?" The only person Zero had ever taken blood from was her. She felt that she had to do something, but there was no way she could reach him before the Night Class did. She turned to Kaname quickly. She had to do something to him before she possibly died. "Kaname, please don't let them do this." She kissed him quickly, not caring about the Day Class anymore. Reluctantly, she released him and made a mad dash to throw the window open. "Back off!"

Zero took a few more drops for himself, then let go, spotting the knives in her hand. "Haruna, I'm sorry. I had to." He wiped his mouth of her blood and walked off, but not before Akatsuki stopped him, Senri at his side. "Where do you think you're going, Kiryu?" Zero fished out the Bloody Rose. "Stay back or I'll kill you!"

Kaname's eyes flashed with rage as he smelled blood and then looked out the window. Zero. How dare he? As Kaname clenched his fists, small cracks ran up the window pane. But his anger was quickly subdued by Yuki's impulsive actions. "Yuki..." Kaname said, confused as she pulled away. He stared at her for a few moments, forgetting his rage for the time being and sad to see her go. That moment of bliss had passed all too soon, and Kaname was soon faced with impending situation. Yuki was already rushing out the door before Kaname could say anything else. Yuki was always putting others before herself. For all Kaname cared, he wouldn't mind letting Zero get a taste of his own medicine. But since Yuki had pleaded him so... Kaname strode toward the door and flung it open effortlessly, the night air hitting his face as he surged forward, going to protect the person he despised...all for one girl, one girl he loved dearly.

Haruna stood there frozen, like a deer in the headlights. She could hear her heart pounding in her ears. What...what was happening? The world seemed to be moving in slow motion, and the only thing she could see clearly was Zero's red eyes. Haruna finally snapped back to reality when she heard the Night Class, ironically coming to her rescue. Haruna reached for her neck and drew back her hand with some traces of blood still. This was a terrible situation. Haruna glared coldly at Zero. He had to, he said. Whatever. Haruna didn't really feel like caring for anyone at the moment, but she had seen enough bloodshed today. "Enough," she growled. "Thanks, but I'll deal with this myself," she told Akatsuki and Senri. And with that, Haruna snatched Zero's sleeve in one hand while gripping one of her knives in the other and dragging him toward the building. She didn't care enough to report this to the Headmaster tonight, but she wanted to get out of there. "Don't think this means I forgive you," she said icily, letting go of Zero's sleeve once she saw Yuki running toward them. Haruna turned to go back to her room- she had enough for one night and intended to skip classes the next day.

Yuki could think of nothing but reaching Zero before he got hurt. She hated what this was doing to her. She hated that Zero would attack Haruna and take her blood when Yuki swore to herself, Zero, and their father that she help him whenever he needed it. "Kaname!" She screamed, praying that he would hurry and stop them. She met with the Pureblood and took his hand, with her weapon in the other. "Back off!"

Akatsuki and Senri were taken aback when Haruna denied their help. They were angry as well. Takuma watched this. His eyes were red as well. Zero Kiryu. I shall kill you for what you've done to Haruna. I promise. "Kain, Aido, enough." He didn't have to say it, but say it he did, even though Haruna had gone. Zero was tugged along. "Look, it was an accident, alright?"

Kaname addressed Akatsuki and Senri. "Thank you for coming quickly. For now, we must return. The Day Class students will be up soon, and we don't want to cause a scene in front of them. I will speak with the Headmaster again later. For now, I think Yuki can handle it," he said, giving Yuki's hand a squeeze. He turned to her before following the others back to the Moon Dormitory. "I'm trusting you to take care of this," he told her. "I can give you some time to do what you think is best, but just know that this far from being over," he said with a slight sigh.

Haruna slid by the infirmary to grab a bandage. Then, she went back to her dorm and straight to the bathroom. She inspected the bite marks- they would be difficult to hide. She would have to use the bandage and then wear her hair differently in order to cover it. Haruna flopped onto her bed, still upset but too tired to do anything. She laid there, glaring at the ceiling and replaying everything that had happened that night.

"Kaname, I promise that I can handle this." Yuki didn't want him to leave. She wanted to go with him, still able to see her blood on his coat. "Again, I'm really sorry about all of this that happened tonight. I ruined a good night for you." Yuki smiled and held her hand up to his cheek. "I can handle it." A few Day Class kids were already out. She had to do this quick. "Kaname." She kissed him again, her hands in his hair. The kiss remained for longer than she intended. When it finally broke, she let go and smiled. "Thank you."

Kaname smiled. He felt proud at her behavior. It seemed she was growing up to be quite a lovely young lady. Kaname was relieved that she was still so kind and open even though she had every reason not to be. "I'm counting on you," he said sincerely. "Yuki..." Kaname stared at her after she kissed him for the second time that night. It had happened so suddenly. Not that he minded, but it did concern him. He wasn't sure how long he could stand to keep his distance if she kept treating him this way. It was so cruel.

Haruna heard the Day Class students in the hallways of the Sun Dorms as they were heading to classes or to breakfast, or wherever. She really didn't care. Maybe it was stupid to mope around all day, but that is what Haruna intended to do, at least until guard duty. She hadn't slept barely at all, and she didn't want to have to go to class wearing some huge bandage on her neck and having people giving her weird stares. Plus, she didn't want to see Yuki right now, figuring she would make a big deal out of the incident, and she definitely did not want to see Zero.

"What's wrong, Lord Kaname?" She backed up a few inches. "I'm sorry. That was dumb, again." Again, she had completely embarrassed herself in front of the most important person in her life. "I should...I should go." She jammed her thumb behind her, indicating her class that was passing from bed to their classes in all directions. "Bye." She started walking away, of course, after a bow.

Zero sat not that far away from Haruna, touching his mark tenderly, finally giving up on trying to fight this thirst that that damn Shizuka Hio left him to endure, with no one to help him. "Haruna, come here. I'm just wanting to talk." He called to her.

Kaname watched her go and quickly ducked out of sight before he could be spotted and then mobbed by screaming girls. He sighed as he entered the Moon Dorms. He felt guilty- she had always asked to know, and he had never said a word. Maybe he couldn't tell her everything. But perhaps explaining at least a few things would help ease her mind. Kaname didn't like to see Yuki troubled. He went up to his office, cold and lonely. Perhaps he would invite her over one night. Though, it would be nice if it was some sort of occasion to put everyone at ease.

Haruna's head shot up upon hearing Zero's voice. No... I can't do this. Not now. Every muscle in her body tensed just looking at him. How did he expect her to feel? How could he believe she would trust him even for a second? That hadn't worked out so well the last time. Haruna sat there, just staring unemotionally at the silver-haired guardian. She didn't have the energy to fight him, but she sure as heck wasn't going to approach him by choice.

Yuki ran as speedily as possible to class. Five minutes late! She threw open the doors and found her way to her seat next to Haruna, of course. Yori sat on the other side. Yuki saw the bandage on Haruna's neck and immediately felt a surge of guilt for having not been there when she was attacked. "So, Yuki, who are you going to go to the dance with?" Yori asked the extremely tired Guardian. Yuki's head shot up. "I'm awake!"

Zero mouthed the words 'trust me.' He wasn't having one of his episodes. He could contain it, for now. Still, the male leaned back in his seat as he brought out a notepad and pen and jotted a few notes down.

Kaname ran a hand through his hair, mind filled with the night's events. The Level E had been a problem, indefinitely. And then there was Zero Kiryu. But Kaname couldn't help but remember how Yuki kissed him. She had been so willing, so fearless. She really didn't seem to be afraid of him, even if she should be.

Haruna shook her head angrily at the male before turning to face the front. She tried to focus on the lesson, but her mind was a bit absent today. She overhead Yori mention the dance, and she subconsciously frowned. Haruna wasn't one for dancing or social events in general. Though, at least she could probably get away with not dancing if she was on guard duty.

Yori giggled, due to her friend's reaction. "I just asked who you were going to the dance with." She restated her question. "Oh, I don't think I can go, Yori. I have Guardian duties to take care of, right, Haruna?" She turned to her left. "We can't dance. I couldn't if I tried." She was called out for talking during the lesson. "Yes, sir." Yuki responded to the teacher, who asked her to stand at the back for the rest of class.
